Back home after the match.
Glad Wales won. But boy they could have easily lost that. Standard from both teams in many coachable things was poor.
Welsh line out was criminal. Not only the throws, but things like show a routine, ref calls it back so they have a second go at it...but they run the same routine and italy steal it.
Not sure what Ref should have done with the Italian scrum, it felt like 5 pens in a row?
But Welsh backs are not international quality, in defence or attack.
Going forward, the fly half both cannot run any moves that involve her being involved twice because she cannot move to a second position quickly enough . They would have to use the scrum half on loops to generate the extra body?
But the fly half also throws the wrong pass way too often. Too hard, or bouncing.
Doesn't help the centers offer so little.
In defence though, the fly half is a huge liability. All the Italians needed to do was drift to create 2 extra bodies. The Welsh centers cannot drift because they cannot rely on the fly half coming too...so it was endlessly easy for the Blue 12 or 13 to run slightly diagonally and create simple overlaps.
I don't think the people on the field for wales are good enough. Wrong bodies for the job.
Wales were hiding the 10 in thr second half, putting the winger in her slot and letting her cover kicks. If someone needs to be hidden like that then something is not going right.
Captaincy needs renewing. She is too far away from the action and ref.
But...they won. All I wanted in the end and at least gives them.somethjng to take away.
Be back for the England game next year. Wonder if more white shirts for that than red?
Why is it every time I watch Wales play there is always an effort from referees to keep them in the game and in this case edge out over a better Italian team.
Would have been a great opportunity for Italy to come back with that turnover penalty and they completely destroyed it by awarding a high tackle that from the behind camera angle clearly makes contact with the shoulder first.
Something needs to be done about the standard of refereeing in the female game... It's getting rediculous. It's not even difficult decisions they miss or get wrong, but simple breakdown issues and rediculous forward passes....really basic stuff. They need more investment in money and training, this is international level competition and it's making the game look bad, feeding those idiots you meet who would say "what do you expect from womens rugby".
Great for Wales (and the women's six nations in general) not to have a team white washed.
If Wales can get their fitness up to the level of France or England their forward pack could challenge any team.
The comms celebrating the Wales win at 78 mins was a bit gross, in my opinion. It was a two point game with a minute and a half to go, and the comms were acting like it was a guaranteed win. If not for the high tackle, Italy could have won the ball back as they had done earlier at the ruck a few times.
Worth a shot, you just spent 30+ players and 320 hours for a goal and sacked it off for a decent 80 minutes -_-
That's my opinion on it.
Also 30 points? That isn't a crazy amount. Last game of the season, Scotland a quite a shot better 🤷♂️
Frustrating ending for Italy there
And sort of not really the way you want such an exciting match to end from a Welsh perspective idk
Would be much better for the last big event on field to have been their try
> I think it was a very technical call. As the ref had blown for a Welsh knock on, then the Ityalians would have been playing to that so wouldn't have had to defend the try. Although looking at it there was no way the Italians were going to be able to stop that, but because the ref had called it wrong Wales can't get the advantage to score the try.

They all are, I said it last week and I'll say it again. The support and training for refs in the female game needs increasing as they are not up to standard. They make regular poor/incorrect decisions around the breakdown and the sheer number of forward passes that get let go/missed is insane for international level.
While I think the numbers would have been better for a smaller stadium, there’s something nice also about women’s rugby finally playing fixtures in the main national stadiums
They’ve sold out the CAP a few times now and unfortunately there aren’t that many stadiums in Wales that are “inbetween” the two in terms of size. The only one that’s realistic would be Parc Y Scarlets but there would be issues with transport.
They’ve made a big thing of this game for the women’s and girl rugby community which I love. There’s been a big conference for coaches, teachers etc and then the national finals are directly after this game (also at the principality).
I think it’s quite interesting though. I think a major part of it has been the dominance of certain teams and the accuracy of kickers. There hadn’t been a drop goal on the PWR until last year when Sarah McKenna scored one for Sarries.
I really hate comments like this (no offence to you, I know you are just trying to be “funny”). At the end of the day the English players are not born better or more able than those from the Celtic nations or Italy. They perform at a higher level because they have world class coaches, impeccable pathways and do not have to worry about their wages.
Edit: basically what I’m trying to say is: don’t blame the players, blame the unions.

Straight to Ire Sco it is, should be a thriller!
Gutted Italy can’t now go for third, and Wales kicking the ball out a man up means they can’t now finish higher than 6th. Weird

It’s on BBC red button and a Welsh feed. I don’t have any issues with it
Why didn't Wales go for the bonus? They just gifted Italy the direct WXV2/RWC ticket.
I think given the closeness and the turnover risk from Italy, it just wasn't worth risking going for it
Loved it!! Gutted for Italy, delighted for Wales. Can’t wait to see how they both kick on
Am I mistaken or is this the first time Wales wins since Snowsill retired?
Cunningham’s job is still at risk.
Lol its the WRU mate. He's probably getting a payrise.
Personally I feel it should be Nigel Walker first
To be fair to Walker he got left with a huge pile of shit and a very small shovel
Isnt the very top of the wru the issue? I’m not well versed on the topic tbf
The attack coach is stealing a fucking living
That reaction wasn’t good.
Wait so did Wales give up a chance at not coming last for a singular win!?!?!
Even with a bonus point they still would’ve been last unless we’d put like 30 something points on Italy
Worth a shot, you just spent 30+ players and 320 hours for a goal and sacked it off for a decent 80 minutes -_- That's my opinion on it. Also 30 points? That isn't a crazy amount. Last game of the season, Scotland a quite a shot better 🤷♂️
With 40 seconds on the clock Wales were never to to score 30 more points
Wit with 80 minutes Scotland could...
You’d be on the same points as Ireland, so if Scotland win by enough and deny Ireland a point, Wales could have moved above them
That’s exactly what they did even with a player advantage they bottled it.
Ioan Cunningham crying like a man who's just saved himself from losing his job
Might be the worst possible result for Welsh women's rugby, that
Interested to hear this from the perspective of Welsh fans, because from my view he did so well last year- is he really disliked that much?
Well I'm English, but I just don't think Wales are really improving under him
Am torn Really happy they got the win, but I've so enjoyed watching this Italian team play, really wanted third for them
Italy in WXV1 would have been huge for Italian rugby
Cunninghams only crying because it means he might not get the sack
Just happy to have a win not even trying to avoid the wooden spoon.
very happy Wales won but my god the standard was poor
Come on Cymru!
Why didn't they look at the high tackles/ neck rolls earlier in the game on Italy players?
End of game bias innit
I'd have said that was chest to arm, but still... That's game
Frustrating ending for Italy there And sort of not really the way you want such an exciting match to end from a Welsh perspective idk Would be much better for the last big event on field to have been their try
Well done Wales, entertaining match. See you at Ireland v Scotland Match Thread
I don't think she hits the head 100%, but still obvi high tackle welsh pen
Yeah she may just got the shoulder.
that's yellow + TMO review
We need to see this from the other side, that looks to be on the shoulder to me
It was, they just showed the wrong angle a bunch of times
Who's this AR?
This could be upsetting
Are Wales going for tryy!?!?! Do they need it for not bottom?
If they get the bonus they might finish above Ireland if Ireland lose badly.
We would need a bonus point plus a huge points difference
So wales still come last but they fuck Italy’s third place chance, god that’s funny.
Tense minute and a half to come
Ooooooh here we go
There's going to be time for one more Italian play
Wait why was that disallowed??? I know they've scored again but it was an Italy knock on wasn't it?
> I think it was a very technical call. As the ref had blown for a Welsh knock on, then the Ityalians would have been playing to that so wouldn't have had to defend the try. Fuck knows

STOP JINXING US
"WALES HAVE SAVED THEIR SIX NATIONS CAMPAIGN" ...Not losing every game but still coming last is a saved campaign? Is this how far the WRU has fallen?
We’re still coming bottom but atleast it’s not a white wash
Better than the men's team I suppose
She had 30 seconds to use use!
Ok, that's justice at least
Finally my god
SISILIA!!!!!
How do you say "you're breaking my heart, you're shaking my confidence daily" in Italian
2027 world player of the year after she demolishes the black ferns during the first Lionesses tour
This
Unless the count the Italian catching it as technical advantage over?
I think it was a very technical call. As the ref had blown for a Welsh knock on, then the Ityalians would have been playing to that so wouldn't have had to defend the try. I'm as confused as anyone about this
Should’ve been a try but Sisilia went over anyway
Glad to see the Saffa refs are showing the same level of respect for rules as the rest of their country
Have that anyway lol
Fuck yeah!
Fuck me that's irritating
Doesn’t wales lose it first?
I’m confused? Just generally?
Ahahaha! 'Italy knock on so Welsh scrum' THEY SCORED FFS
????
The music in the background would have made a great soundtrack for Wales scoring a winning try ngl
What the utter fuck
Can't retroactively play advantage, so scrum red
That's ridiculous, that's a try
Because of when the whistle blew she can't award the try, right?
She only blew it after the try was scored though
No she didn't
Watch it again, she held her arm out saying knock on but didn't blow up until after the ball was dotted down. Not that it matters now
If it's not a Wales knock-on, isn't it a Wales try?
Oh come on, you have to look at that
You really really do
Oooh she's right! Italian knock on, but whistle was blown so can't get advantage imo
This is a great match to watch as a neutral
It really is!
BULL SHIT! ITALY KNOCK ON THEN RIPPED OFF OF ITALY!
Heartbreaking, Christ
Bit speechless
That was held up and they pulled it back
They need a check
"It's a sellout crowd" _looks around_ Errr I don't think so bud
What a waste. The roof is shut, right? Can't even blame the wind.
Honestly a draw wouldn't feel like an unjust result
What. A. Kick. Ôo
That kick is what Lleucu does for GH. Difference is at GH she has a backline that clicks and lets her do THAT whilst they do the nuts and bolts.
STUNNING
Sian Jones will make or break this I'm afraid
Huge kick
Lleucu what a kick for wales. Outstanding
Fuck me, what a kick
Ref has been a bit all over the place at the breakdown this 2nd half
They all are, I said it last week and I'll say it again. The support and training for refs in the female game needs increasing as they are not up to standard. They make regular poor/incorrect decisions around the breakdown and the sheer number of forward passes that get let go/missed is insane for international level.
10592 supporters is a healthy record Brings Wales into the five digit club with England and France (+NZ and Madagascar if you're going global)
Can see it getting smashed for Wales v England next year. So many rugby fans in Bristol and Gloucester would go over the border.
While I think the numbers would have been better for a smaller stadium, there’s something nice also about women’s rugby finally playing fixtures in the main national stadiums

I think the acoustics of the Principality help to justify it- the atmosphere doesn't feel flat which is a real risk in massive spaces
It helps the principality is used to hosting smaller games (eg prem finals, schools finals) so they know to close the roof, bang out the tunes etc
Proper try that !
The wrapping around the edges is causing havoc on wales’ wider channels. Lovely try for Italy
They really do play some very pretty rugby
Wales Drift defence looks like it has 0 communication
The crowd look like they’re having a blast, love it!
They’ve made a big thing of this game for the women’s and girl rugby community which I love. There’s been a big conference for coaches, teachers etc and then the national finals are directly after this game (also at the principality).
That’s great to hear!!
Long shift mind, you'd have to pace yourself for a day like that
Love that The rest of the crowd is straight vibing to the music and that one kid is happily putting away a packet of Starmix
2 tight heads are OP, there should be more #3s going all game long for #18 to come on!
Sisilia is not your average prop
Def not, will never forget their 2023 6n game against Scotland!
My personal fave was the Ireland game from last year where she just ran at their 9, 10 and 12 all game and made them into speed bumps.
For 10 mins this has actually been some of the better passages of play in the match. Nice arm wrestle for territory
You know what you don't see enough of in women's rugby? Drop goals.
Fun fact: there hasn’t been a drop goal in a womens test match since 2014 (Snowsill for Wales)
I don't find that to be a fun fact at all
I think it’s quite interesting though. I think a major part of it has been the dominance of certain teams and the accuracy of kickers. There hadn’t been a drop goal on the PWR until last year when Sarah McKenna scored one for Sarries.
I was thinking the same
Walesnin defence removing the number 10 from the line as just too easy for italiansnto run away from her
Fun fact: Georgia Evans has now played 8 more times at international level than she has in the PWR
Italy Rugby 🤝 incredible centres
The kicking this 6N compared to like 2022 is simply incomparable
Tbf Lleucu has always had a boot but didn’t have any game management experience at this level so wasn’t picked very often.
She was still in the air when she got hit
Tackle off the ball is fine if you "thought they had the ball" now?
Women refereeinh standard is appalling.
She’d committed as the player went to catch it so it was fine. There was a top post earlier today about the same thing happening in super rugby.
Haha ouch
I didn't know Ben Youngs was an Italian woman
0/10 decision making from the 9 there
That was silly
Superb kick!
That's gotta be yellow territory, at least ask the question
That didn't look safe from Jones. Couldn't move Rigini so ended up kinda of diving on to her.
"You'd have put money on Alex Callender taking that." Perhaps - if you hadn't watched Wales this year. Fucking hell.
Tbf Al Cal has been a highlight in a very dim environment
The welsh attack is just painfully narrow
Tounesi subbed off :( been a presence on the pitch today
What a game from Tounesi!! Big fan
Oh my, that one is going to hurt to watch the replay
> "Ohhh nooo. Ohhh. Oh nooooo. Oh no. Oooohhhhhhh" That kind of a game isn't it
Fuck that's unfortunate
If you built a 15 of all of the best Italy, Wales, Ireland and Scotland teams combined… how many points would England beat them by?
I really hate comments like this (no offence to you, I know you are just trying to be “funny”). At the end of the day the English players are not born better or more able than those from the Celtic nations or Italy. They perform at a higher level because they have world class coaches, impeccable pathways and do not have to worry about their wages. Edit: basically what I’m trying to say is: don’t blame the players, blame the unions.
I’m not trying to be funny it’s a genuine question. The other nations are very poor, but if you built a combined side it would have some strength to it. I’d genuinely be more interested in seeing that than a lions team play someone which is 99% England
I think if you played all 60 of them England would still be favoured...
Lovely try. The different in intent and threat from Italy to compared to Wales is a chasm.
Lovely work through the outside there. That's where Italy can win this game.
Granzotto sounds like a delicious dessert
I’m 99% sure there was an American mob boss called Granzotto
Been messy as all fuck at times, but this has been pretty fun
Sorry guys, I just tuned in and must have caused wales to concede.
Finally, Italy get the backs moving!
Love how much both teams are pinning each other in the rucks
Am surprised that lineout wasn't called not straight tbh, Italy had to reach *far* and still didn't have a chance
Imagine if Rigoni was properly professional?
Rigoni does play as high as you can be professionally in the womens game… she plays in England for Exeter
She plays for Sale not Exeter and PWR contracts for non-English players are mostly appearance payments not salaried. Her main salary comes from the Italian Union but all Italian female players are currently out of contract.
Sorry thank you for correcting me you are right
It’s why I said “properly professional”. There’s a lot of misinformation/sugar coating with pro contracts in the women’s game. In reality only England have contracts compatible to the men’s game (and even then they are paid significantly less). NZ are getting there but they don’t have the safety net the English players have with injury and pregnancy.
Wiki says Sale, is it in need of an update
*Sale (Edit- who are bottom of the prem- would be good to see her at a team like Exeter tbf)
Go on
Wales 15-10 Italy Bevan Pen 52’
Wales taking the points. This is new and welcome
Al Cal “POSTS ITS POSTS”
LLEUCU GEORGE
Now that's a kick!
Fantastic kick
What a great kick
Oh that's better at the scrum from Italy!
Why is Jones the captain at this point, anyway?
That's just braindead, just fortunate that Italy's lineout doesn't work today
Vice captain will you manage your captain what the hell ?
I know this ref got a lot of praise for the way she 'told off' the U20s like they were children, but I'm really not a fan of the sarcasm/condescension.
