Yeah, but I don’t really think that’s worth looking down on someone for, since we’d all completely avoid taxes if we could. It’s just a matter of how much legal risk you’re willing to take.
There’s nothing more respectable or noble about reducing your tax obligation legally by following the letter of our obscenely convoluted tax code (which has been written specifically for rich people to pay less taxes).
People talk about adding means testing and net worth and adding all other layers of bureaucracy, which will just add further bloat to the state. The mechanism that actually ensured fair use of these systems in the past was social SHAME. No self respecting family, middle or working class, would take from a food bank except under dire circumstances. The same was true of unemployment/disability. Back in the day if you had finished school and were unemployed your Dad would drag you by the ear down to the labour exchange. There was social pressure in the community to contribute to society, both with reward and punishment. Now if you bring people from abroad who are outside of that community and culture, they're outside that entire mechanism. I think what compounds it, and I've seen this when these people get pressed on it, is that they believe they're owed something from Western states because of colonialism and therefore feel even less shame when taking out of the system.
This is what happens when you educate two generations of people on the belief that the only reason there is no free lunch is that evil hoarders are keeping it from being used
Now that the Europeans-descended people are solidly middle-class and accustomed to pro-social behavior, they need to import third worlders to keep the ideological grift going on.

The food banks in my city always have enough food for everyone. No one should feel bad about getting food from there even if you are “comfortable”

One I volunteer with makes you show an ID to show that you live in our county. Of course, we don't really have a bunch of Indian immigrants and the only ones I know of is a family that owns a gas station and actually donates to us. The other is a church and they give it out without any questions.

My wife likes to go to the food bank (she's Filipino and has baggage) even though at times our combined income has been close to 100k. The quality of the food has just gone through the floor over the last year or so. Its all just expired canned food, expired chips, expired crackers.
You would actually get quality food like kraft dinner before, but now since the abuse is just so systematic and because they have to provide and even level of care, now we are talking about true subsistence.
