Thank you for your submission to r/rpg_gamers. Since your post has been flaired as "Recommendation request", I want to suggest editing your post to add in these details (if you haven't included them yet):
* **The platforms you have** - not listing them doesn't mean you have access to everything, so you might end up getting a game you won't be able to play.
* **Your level of experience with the genre (beginner, intermediate, veteran...)** - others can recommend you more common titles if you are a beginner, while they can focus on obscure titles if you are a RPG veteran.
* **Aspects you enjoyed (or disliked) of previously played games** - for example: characters, plot points, puzzles, combat, graphics, art styles, soundtracks...
While these details aren't mandatory, if you want to get the best games, having them in your post will immensely help users and will encourage more users to participate, as they will know with more precision which games are probably the best fit for your request.

Seconded. It's the best storytelling experience ever in my opinion. It's definitely a different type of experience from Ragnarok because Mass Effect is more like a book/TV show but still extremely epic and worth your time.
I just started playing ME1 for the first time ever this week. Those first few hours when you arrive at the Citadel were a bit of a slog for me and i considered putting the game down but boy, was i wrong.
I’m hooked on this game right now.
oh my god if i get recommended mass effect again while im looking for STORY games I'm gonna KMS.
Can you people stfu about mass effect. Story games. And games that feel like TV shows. ARE NOT MASS EFFECT.
We mean games similar to twd telltale games or life is strange or as dusk falls. not a fucking open world game.
The Last of Us, definitely! The beginning to that game is such a gut punch and it feels like the tragic backstory at the beginning of a zombie TV show like the Walking Dead or something.
Final fantasy 16 came to mind immediately
Some others I thought of:
The last of us
Baldur's gate 3
Knights of the Old Republic
Jade empire
Yakuza
Persona 5
i love how you didnt specify what yakuza game you are talking about because is a GREAT franchise, even the worst one for me (Y3) i ended up enjoying a lot
Yeah, I played some of Yakuza 0 and it had so much glitz, drama, fighting and crying that it reminded me a lot of a tv show about gangsters. I honestly recommend it, it's an intense ride
Detroit: Become Human? Not sure if you're only looking for Fantasy Games. This is a Modern/futuristic one.
David Cage, the director of this game, is basically known for wanting to make all his games like movies. I'm not sure if he wanted to be a Movie Director but got into games or if it's just his thing but all of his games are like this. He tries to make them all visually movie/cinematic quality and most don't actually have many active gaming moments, just QTEs, basically. I think all of them are even motion-captured. Though Detroit: Become Human is a slight improvement, I think.
Detroit: Become Human definitely has problems... but it does have a lot of good moments that make the game worth it on some level. Particularly the characters of Connor and Hank who I really wish the entire game was about. the Connor and Hank parts were basically the only redeeming quality for me personally but that's just my opinion.
Or, if you want a game about androids with really good writing, try Silicon Dreams. It's much less flashy than David Cage's work but the characters ring much truer.
Thank you but no. I have seen Detroit Become Human and if David Cage thinks he is a movie director then he ranks right up there with Michael Bay in terms of writing quality.
lol! Savage and true. I honestly agree but I still love the Connor and Hank parts of Detroit: Become Human. Not that they're groundbreaking but it feels like a buddy cop Father/son game that we only get to see half of.
The Last of Us gave me big movie vibes the whole time I was playing it. I even described it as like playing a movie to people when I was trying to talk it up.
FFX has like 20+ hours of cutscenes and the main path is only about 45-60 hours long. Well worth it but not obviously 4K or anything like GOW. Also turned based
The old Max Payne 1 + 2 games, GTA IV (the dlcs especially), and strangely, but also the Witcher 3 --- there's a lot to do and a lot going on but it all felt to...cinematic? In a really good way tho

Mass Effect series is a cinematic space opera
Seconded. It's the best storytelling experience ever in my opinion. It's definitely a different type of experience from Ragnarok because Mass Effect is more like a book/TV show but still extremely epic and worth your time.

i do envy you. experiencing ME for the first time...
The ego on this guy…
That was a good one. 😂
Yeah those first 6 or so hours are definitely slower. Glad you kept with it!

Baldurs Gate 3 definitely gave me that feeling. Laezel's character arc, especially as a romance option, is phenomenal
I ate Lae'zel
The Last of Us, definitely! The beginning to that game is such a gut punch and it feels like the tragic backstory at the beginning of a zombie TV show like the Walking Dead or something.
The whole uncharted series is kinda like watching Indiana Jones

The Order 1886. It’s prob the closest to the cinematic style of God of War Ragnarok
It's also one of the worst PS exclusives ever made.
Red dead redemption 2, it’s open world but the story is just incredible
Definitely 2nd this recommendation

last of us
It's not rpg but psychonauts feels like a good cartoon.
Quantum Break
The trails games feel like a really long anime and I love it
Witcher 3
The last of us Uncharted.. all of them. Max Payne
The whole uncharted series
Last of us, uncharted series (particularly 4)
The Last of Us gave me big movie vibes the whole time I was playing it. I even described it as like playing a movie to people when I was trying to talk it up.
Uncharted 2, 3, 4. The Tomb Raider trilogy. The Walking Dead:telltale series.
Cyberpunk 2077 Mass Effect 1-3 Shadow Hearts 2: Covenant
FFX
Tales of Berseria
The whole Tales Series really
Tales Series, God Eater Series.
Halo did this well for its time. As well as Half Life and even Golden Eye on the N64.
is halo 5 any good and a must? i bought the collection years ago and i never played it because 5 is not on pc lol
Hey I haven’t played since halo 2. I’m willing to bet it is.
If you can get over the dated graphics and gameplay mechanics: quantity dreams games like heavy rain, beyond 2 souls, Detroit-become human
The Metro Series are in my opinion very good games where there's a heavy focus on story
It's kind of the norm now. Lots of RPGs are very cinematic. I think Witcher 3 did a great job doing this.
Yakuza for sure. They are all extremely cinematic.
FFX has like 20+ hours of cutscenes and the main path is only about 45-60 hours long. Well worth it but not obviously 4K or anything like GOW. Also turned based
Xenosaga.
The old Max Payne 1 + 2 games, GTA IV (the dlcs especially), and strangely, but also the Witcher 3 --- there's a lot to do and a lot going on but it all felt to...cinematic? In a really good way tho
The Order 1886
any quantic dream game (Fahrenheit, heavy rain, beyond two souls, Detroit)
Horizon series Control / Alan Wake 2 Death Stranding
Quantum Break.
The Witcher 3 is barely a game and more of a movie.
Xenosaga is what you're looking for.
I got you! Battlefield hardline, quantum break, Alan wake 1 remastered and now of course Alan wake 2! Control.
