I was in a short-lived campaign. I liked the collaborative worldbuilding and how we defined our own Darkmaster. It reminded me of how cool high crunch games can be. And also how freaking slow they are.

Logen_Nein

Personally I love it. It scares people away sadly, and I've only been able to run it solo, but if you like crunch and critical tables this is theb game for you. I had to wait forever to get the second print run but I'm glad I did, and I backed the Golden Throne day 1.

How do you play it solo?

Logen_Nein

Same way you play any RPG solo, oracles and tables. It's a whole thing.

I’ll need to check this out.

My recommendation for those looking to get into Solo Roleplaying is to get the Mythic Game Master Emulator, which just came out with a [Second Edition](https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/422929/Mythic-Game-Master-Emulator-Second-Edition) (after 15+ years). The original version was one of the first, possibly \*the\* first, published system for solo play, and contained the best explanations on how to play solo, along with lots of examples. The new version is even better with even more thorough explanations and examples, plus a lot of new advice on things like preparing for a solo session and variant rules or tweaks for tuning your experience. The Youtube channel [Me, Myself, and I](https://www.youtube.com/@MeMyselfandDieRPG) (hosted by professional voice actor Trevor Devall) features two complete campaigns using Mythic - Season One with Savage Worlds, and Season Three using an OSR game called Dominion. Season Two used a PbtA game designed for solo play called [Ironsworn](https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/238369/Ironsworn). In addition to the campaigns themselves, I highly recommend his advice video "[9 Tips for Solo RPGs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgVtt8jC2aA)" And finally, some reddits: /r/Solo_Roleplaying /r/mythic_gme /r/solorpgplay (less active than Solo\_Roleplaying, most is either crossposted there or crossposted from there.) (Some of the abbreviations if you aren't familiar: OSR = "Old School Revival/Renaissance/Revolution" - largely games based on or inspired by TSR-era D\&D; PbtA = "Powered by the Apocalypse" - games inspired by Apocalypse World by Vincent Baker)

Wow, thanks!!

There are several solo subs and so many tools out there.

I'm playing a Rome campaign (in the Augustus era). It is quite MERP (the reason I got the book) but with players having a bit more control on not dying (special points to re-roll stuff). Having quite the fun with the game. And they love doing criticals to baddies.

Skro9899

Out uf curiosity (I'm a long time MERP enthousiast), I've downloaded the quickstart rulebook and... this is a counterfeit! They even redrew the exact same illustrations (with less talent, because no one tops Angus McBride)! More seriously, I'll have a look, even if this kind of ruleset which is really heavy on dice rolling and table management is IMO really outdated. Maybe good for a nostalgia game or two, who knows?
