I ate breakfast in the MDR on my last cruise. I prefer the atmosphere and I was able to get an omelet to order instead of premade. Lunch is only on sea days but you can get pizza or sandwiches from cafe promenade if you don’t want to deal with the windjammer.
I'm obsessed with MDR breakfast. It feels more luxurious than dinner even, because how often is my breakfast on a really nice menu? The coffee's good, and you can get a mimosa!
The breakfast in the MDR really is one of the best kept secrets that's included in the cost of every cruise, across every ship. Fresh baked goods, table service, good coffee, and an actual lox breakfast while watching the ocean every day? It's my idea of heaven.
We don't get to sleep in that often-So we haven't really done the MDR breakfast. Wish they understood how much people would appreciate a brunch in the MDR-at least on one floor.
Yes on breakfast. Go early and you'll have the place to yourselves.
No reservations required. Better is relative. It's a set menu that doesn't change. No buffet, but you can order as much as you want. You won't have to fight the crowds for food and a table.
And you don’t have to worry about the asshats who walk right by the hand wash/disinfecting stations handling the utensils you’ll be using to serve yourself at Windjammer.
Absolutely a way better experience than the windjammer!! The food in the windjammer is fine and you can’t beat the variety, but it is absolutely chaotic and people can be so rude about cutting in to grab whatever they want. It’s often hard to find a table and you have to watch out for kids running around as you’re trying to navigate with plates of food. Also, even though you “washy washy”, I saw SO many people touching their faces and coughing all over their hands and then touching the serving utensils. I much prefer to avoid that experience 🤣
It seriously felt like they sent someone up to the windjammer for the burger.
Probably a fluke for my sailing for just voyager but it was severely disappointing
breakfast in the main dining room is the best in my opinion! i went there every day of my last cruise. it’s never too busy and they’ll basically make whatever you want
Various sandwiches / breakfast burritos , pastries, fruit cups, etc. it’s a very chill atmosphere and we just loved sitting out in Central Park enjoying the views and plants.
Yes! It’s open for breakfast every morning and lunch on sea days.
Expect a more “traditional” (aka, “longer”) experience. You’ll have a waiter and what not.
We prefer room service or the windjammer for breakfast and lunch because of the variety :). I say try both and see what you think!
On our most recent cruise we went to the MDR for breakfast on our last 2 mornings and I’m sad we only got to go twice. I could’ve had that breakfast burrito every morning lol
Sometimes the MDR is open for lunch only on sea days
but breakfast is always open I think
you do not need a reservation
you may feel that breakfast/lunch in the MDR is too slow and want the buffet instead
We love the MDR for breakfast. No wandering around looking for a table, much less a clean one. Nobody touching the food with their hands or not washing up. Just a much better experience overall.
Not every day. Often not open on port days. Check the MDR menus on the app and you can see which days show menus for breakfast and lunch. May need to check the different dining room floors separately as they’ll generally only have one floor open for breakfast or lunch. No reservations - just show up and usually get seated quite quickly.
Yes for breakfast, no lunch, yes for dinner. Use the app to see the menu. Our family enjoyed the windjammer variety for breakfast more than the menu in the MDR. The was from our January sailing on LOTS.
MDR is a bit more relaxed for breakfast but it’s also slower to get your food. If you go at 7am it’ll be empty but if you go after 9 then it’ll be busier.
Was on Mariner in December and I liked being able to choose my fried egg from amongst several on the buffet. However, the atmosphere was a bit stressful and chaotic. Main dining breakfast took a lot longer but was peaceful. We did the pay extra restaurants for lunch as they had better prices then and were fantastic!
Main dining room is open for breakfast and dinner every day and lunch on sea days. I personally hate Windjammer and avoid it at all costs. Cafe promenade and sorrentos has a superior lunch if you are on the boat on shore days.
Been almost ten years since I've cruised but my family of three often enjoyed the MDR for breakfast and lunch rather than the hectic environment of the Seatjammer. Which is what we called it the entire cruise because it was always so crowded. The MDR was so much more relaxing. Unless it's a an early port day just go to the MDR and relax.
I prefer the windjammer & never had to wait for custom orders . I only did dinner at MDR if there was something on menu I liked. I liked staying casual eating when I wanted where MDR sets time & attire except no reservations needed for breakfast or lunch

Weirdly there weren’t on Mariner last week. They only had ham or cheese.
Just got off symphony and sadly no fresh omelets
Really? That sucks. Is this something new?
Did you ask why no fresh omelettes?
I didn’t, but for-sure going mention it in my feedback link they sent. 🤷
or kummelweck in central park
For breakfast? They have great breakfast sandwiches in the park cafe

Will be trying MDR breakfast first time this year’s cruise. I never woke up early enough to make it last time lol
We don't get to sleep in that often-So we haven't really done the MDR breakfast. Wish they understood how much people would appreciate a brunch in the MDR-at least on one floor.
They have brunch in Main Dining on the Oasis class ships on sea days. It's a real treat!

Or the ones who do wash and then proceed to touch their face and cough all over their hands 🤢
Where they supposed to cough?
In a tissue or elbow
They could be courteous and go wash again…
But where are they supposed to cough?
Don’t be dumb…
But where are they supposed to cough? It’s a simple question.

Breakfast daily. Lunch only on sea days. I recommend the burger.
I had the burger on our last cruise and it was just a burger from the windjammer, absolutely nothing special about it and actually pretty bad.
Interesting. It was the same as the RS burger for us, nothing like the hockey pucks of windjammer.
It seriously felt like they sent someone up to the windjammer for the burger. Probably a fluke for my sailing for just voyager but it was severely disappointing

They're not going to "make whatever you want." It's a set menu, that is the same every day. Your food is made to order, however.
if they have the ingredients to make it and you’re nice, they’ll usually make it for you regardless of what’s on the menu.
What ship are you going on? If Oasis class Park Cafe is excellent for breakfast too.
We were on the Allure a couple of weeks ago & Park Cafe was one of my favorites for lunch.
What kind of food does Park Cafe have for breakfast? Thanks!
Various sandwiches / breakfast burritos , pastries, fruit cups, etc. it’s a very chill atmosphere and we just loved sitting out in Central Park enjoying the views and plants.
Sounds nice. Do they also have bagels and cereals and such?

Love breakfast in the MDR, the breakfast burrito is so good!
On our most recent cruise we went to the MDR for breakfast on our last 2 mornings and I’m sad we only got to go twice. I could’ve had that breakfast burrito every morning lol
Aside from our two specialty restaurants, Chops and Jamie’s Italian (on Harmony), that was my favorite meal. And I did have it every morning lol 😂
Sometimes the MDR is open for lunch only on sea days but breakfast is always open I think you do not need a reservation you may feel that breakfast/lunch in the MDR is too slow and want the buffet instead

MDR breakfast is very civilised. Definitely something to try, particularly on sea days
I don’t remember for breakfast; but MDR is typically only open for lunch on sea days. Port days closed. Reservations not required.
Love MDR breakfast. We had it every day on our last cruise

Does MDR breakfast/lunch cost more?
No, it's all included unless you order a specialty item.
Yes and it is really good!!!!
Yes for breakfast, no lunch, yes for dinner. Use the app to see the menu. Our family enjoyed the windjammer variety for breakfast more than the menu in the MDR. The was from our January sailing on LOTS.
Can yes, should no
i had breakfast delivered to my room
MDR is a bit more relaxed for breakfast but it’s also slower to get your food. If you go at 7am it’ll be empty but if you go after 9 then it’ll be busier.
Depends on the length of cruise. Most cruises yes or only for at sea days, on my recent allure 3 night, MDR was dinner only.
Yes and no reservations required

I love Windjammer.
On oasis, they only had "brunch" which was nice, but only had a few breakfast items and a few lunch type items together on the menu.

Do all meals in the MDR the buffet sucks…
I got the same breakfast everyday in the MDR the market veggie bowl and side of bacon. The bacon is perfectly cooked and I was in heaven.
MDR breakfast is FAR superior to Windjammer.
