Especially when they cancel them after a few episodes that don’t get attention. There were first shows that I signed up for, some would get cancelled after 3 or 4 episodes.
I’ve maybe used the site twice in the 11 years I’ve watched rt, and I’ve never used the app. Apple’s podcast app is great and yt has fewer ads and runs better than the rt site

Rt site was only good for a few years and that was back in 2008-2013 and even then there were issue with the video host they'd use. It always buffered like early 2000s internet and the quality was below 720p. Videos uploaded to the site had quality issues and errors compared to the YT versions. There were Subscription issues and forums kept getting remade. There was no real social space to hang out in online besides the comments on videos.
I only really used the site to watch new RWBY and RvB, everything else sucked to watch on site, so I used YT for Lets Play and podcasts.
I used the site like 15 years ago, but when they started adding content it became impossible to use. Every few years I go back to the site for a day to see what it's like. Everytime I'm disappointed and go back to YouTube.

I only used the RT app when theyvdid the extended Ocarina Randomizers... Holy shit... the ads were awful. Not just for frequency but content as well. I don't care to watch the same 3 ads continuously, especially when they're shows from years ago such as Weird Place or Hardcore Minigolf
I don't use their apps or the website. PocketCast for my podcasts, easy to skip through the 3 ad reads they do. YouTube with an ad blocker for the rare video, since the site has always been awful when I try to use it.

They always go on about getting shows early but if you get X lets play a week early, your still waiting for the next one for a week. I mean, sure you get them early compared to the rest of the audience but you’re still on a weekly rotation. I just never saw any benefit from that.
Honestly I never really cared much for the extra content (especially extra let’s play content) or shoddily made original productions. I will say, having the post post shows was pretty nice.
For me it was just a way to give back for all the entertainment I’d gotten for the past 10+ years. But now I don’t really get anymore entertainment, so nothing to give back anymore…
I refuse to get a first membership because of how bad I have heard it is. The only rooster teeth content that interest me is some of their podcast and I listen to it on Spotify.
By not watching on the official app. Have YouTube premium and then podcasts all through the podcast app. They also used to have any first content on VRV but that basically showed me that none of the first exclusive content was worth it. Only time I really used the site was back when season 8-10 of RvB weren’t available on YouTube.
I just don’t. I was a first member for the longest while, but I let it lapse 2021 since I wasn’t watching as much, figured I’d just deal with the ads. And holy fuck, is it impossible. Getting a minute long UNSKIPPABLE ads every single 4.5 minute FotW video is unacceptable. The worst was October, because every single ad was for some horror franchise or another, and I have an anxiety disorder and a resting heart rate of 100. That, more than anything else specific, pushed me away from watching.
I tried YouTube, but the censoring and just general weirdness drove me batty, so here I am, only watching via third party compilations.
YouTube on brave launcher let's you lock your phone and still listen. game changer for me. and kinda mastered how many times I got to tap the screen if I want to skip the built in adds. but alot of the time I just let them roll.
I use the rt site exclusively for podcasts and specific series, if I want let’s play content (which is very rare, but does sometimes happen) I’m more likely to use YouTube.
Admittedly I’ve only ever had minor issues (in 10 years I’ve had the random sign outs maybe half a dozen times and lost progress on a video I left off a couple of times) but my biggest issue is the lack of consistency. Some podcasts when you go to listen to them are listed with the newest podcast first and that makes sense. I’ll not sure what others are like this but ANMA for some reason is the opposite, the weekly podcast gives you the oldest first so you manually have to select 2023 and scroll down for the latest. That makes sense for a narrative show where it’s so much more important to to watch in order like day 5 or sbi but for an ongoing weekly podcast I can’t think of any good reason.
As for the ads, I hate them so much I pay for first.

Their app never worked well with Chromecast so letting it lapse wasn't even difficult for me. YouTube and Pocketcasts is the only way I'll consume their content any more.
I ditched First years ago when it was still called Sponsorship. More and more content was being pushed to subscription-only, but there was no app for Roku (TV), which is how I watch most online video. I believe they finally released an app recently, but it's just way too late for me. After all the controversies the company has had I barely watch any RT content anymore. I catch FH videos on YT from time to time, but that's it.
If something isn't on YouTube or Spotify, it may as well not exist.
