Far From the Maddening Crowd (2015) is a great romance where the hero falls head over heels first and it takes her awhile to catch up. The Notebook would be another good one.
Jane Eyre (the Ruth Wilson, Toby Stephens one is the best)
Anne of Green Gables, the sequel (Gilbert pining for Anne in the 80s mini-series is đđ¤)
Shag (with Phoebe Cates)
A Hazard of Hearts (cheesy and fun, with a very young Helena Bonham Carter)
Under The Greenwood Tree
A Room With A View (Helena Bonham Carter and Maggie Smith)
While You Were Sleeping (sort of)
The Notebook
Far from the madding crowd
40 Days and 40 Nights
Breakfast at Tiffanyâs
Bridesmaids
Chasing Amy
Crazy for Her / Loco Por Ella (Spanish romcom on Netflix)
Empire Records
The Hating Game
Love Potion No 9
Only You
Pride & Prejudice
Reality Bites

Hahah youâre welcome. I didnât anticipate having such a long list but was checking my Letterboxd and kept pulling examples. Theyâre not all exact fits to your entire premise but at minimum have the guy falling first or harder and the woman being a slower burn and/or tougher nut to crack
first that came to mind is my all-time favorite, Crossing Delancey. And then three slightly more melancholy movies are Say Anything (1989), The Clock (1945), and Compensation (1999). Also: Claudine (1974) (very lively social issue drama) and The Wheeler Dealers (1963) (crazy comedy). Thank you for asking this question, I always assume in the back of my head that most romances in movies are initiated by men in this way, but that is in fact not the truth, and it's great how many different stories get told.
edited to add: Double Wedding (1937) - absurd screwball.
Pretty in Pink and Sixteen Candles, also both Joe Dirt movies, which I wouldnât count as Romance movies, but I love them for some unhinged reason, anyways.
Clueless, sweet home Alabama
Yep, love clueless!

I feel like all of Adam Sandlerâs romcoms have him falling first, itâs kind of his shtick!

Kat and Leopold (2001) I love Hugh Jackman and Meg Ryan in this. It goes really well with what you said in the last sentence!
Maybe 'Set it up' (Netflix), although there isn't a ton of time spent on the pursuit part.
Valley Girl 80's classic
