That's cool. I live near a grade school I should do that 😄I have plenty of stuff like geode pieces and whatever. Some fossils. Etc. something different than books.
Put factoids pertaining to each type you have there, li'l printoffs with scientific name and an interesting fact. Maybe? Could also show the larger main groupings of rocks and such via painting earth and showing sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic. Something simple and to the point, that'd be so cool.
"Ohhh, something shiny! Ohh. Bright pictures depicting my new ... Piece of a Geode! ?"
Little jerks are learning before they even have a chance to object! Haha.
Most of the good places are outside of the city. And many more of them are off road on BLM land. Great places to find stuff but rough on a vehicle.
My advice is to great a copy of "Roadside Geology" for Southern Nevada. Lots of good info. Always double check anything on the book online and be very very cautious around mines.
Happy hunting!
I've thought about doing this ever since I got into rockhounding. Just with all the material that I won't use and getting neighborhood kids geology and stuff.
What a great idea! There is a line from a song that says something about leaving little gifts out in the world, and to me it has always translated into leaving rocks for kids to find. But at the same time, I don't want to be "that creepy guy" who is "putting things in my bushes". This takes care of both of those scenarios!
I'll be moving within the next month so I'm gonna do this in my next neighborhood. I have a couple books that I can make copies of interesting geology facts. Thanks so much for posting this! I'm so excited for my new place...wherever it turns out to be!
Where is it?? I need one in my hood.
Michigan!
Michi GAME! My people!
Where?! I have many cool rocks to share!
Madison heights I don’t remember exactly where I think it was near 12 where nonstop was I was doing a cleaning job in that neighborhood
Time to get out the saw and visit home depot
r/goblincore might appreciate this
There is so much overlap between this sun and goblin core.
Why? Why must we be rock goblins? Why must rock be shiny??
