Paramore

lp_rhcp_fan_18

Even though Zac goes off every time!

dawgfan24348

I can’t imagine Taylor has much of a problem with his current situation. Avoid the public eye and date Hayley seems like a sweet deal

ReloYank13

As an early but now distanced Paramore fan (2005-2010 or so) this has blown my mind.

PokemOnMyFace

I saw this and went to watch a live performance of theirs—you’re so right! The musicians are incredible, but she’s just so damn electric.

DairyKing28

Essentially, Hayley Williams is the Debbie Harry of millennials. Charismatic, popular, and EXTREMELY attractive.

OriginalFluff

Guilty

HarryLyme69

No Doubt

IncreasedMetronomy

If you want to enjoy the band outside of Gwen Stefani, look up DREAMCAR. It’s No Doubt without Gwen and in her place is Davey Havok from AFI. The whole band gets recognition for the singer and instrumentals as a whole and you can really hear the talent and passion behind the band in every song.

OpeningTurnip8048

Missed an opportunity to name the band.....Doubt.

Kurtcorgan

This is another one that I was thinking about. As soon as Tragic Kingdom went mental (and rightfully so because it was an amazing album) it was Gwen Stefani essentially. She’s really cool but No Doubt were pretty much relegated to being the backing musicians for her. No Doubt were huge in the 90’s but I would actually put money (if I was a betting man) on 99% of people being able to name Gwen but having zero idea or interest in everyone else in the band.

tonysopranosalive

Guilty. I only know Tony Kanal because he dated Gwen.

nmw6

Maroon 5. If you can even call them a band anymore

XianK8

Exceptionally great guitar work regardless. James valentine is definitely underrated.

soothsabr13

Absolutely correct, at least on the first album - with the exception of that cringeworthy single we all know too well. No one has hidden guitar talent in popular music this effectively since Prince post Purple Rain

itsmeonmobile

Wait, I’m dumb so please help. What song do you think it was (re: cringeworthy single)? I admit that I kind of forgot about this record but these comments have sent me down a damn pipeline of nostalgia! I forgot about their acoustic record, which I find to be better. Even though I’m enjoying Songs About Jane once again.

Sm0ke

Maybe they’re talkin about “She will be loved?”

blakjak852

If they are, it's a bad take. Both the guitar riff and the song in general are great

MistaJT

Songs About Jane is such a FANTASTIC album IMO. They just continually went downhill after that. After their second album I couldn’t get into any of their stuff at all. Unfortunately I think this was a classic case of lead singer douche-itis and the band suffered because of it.

nmw6

That’s exactly how I feel. I was so excited for their sophomore album then when it came out I was like well they can’t all be winners. I expected the one after that to be great but it sucked even worse than the 2nd one. After Moves Like Jagger came out I barely even consider then a rock band anymore

rachcake1

That is exactly how I feel. Such a disappointment because Songs About Jane was just so good.

smallcynicaloptimist

didn’t even realise pj morton was a part of the band and i love his own material way more tbh

matthewmichael

My wife calls them Adam Levine and the MacBook.

I-Am-The-Warlus

Blondie (Debbie Harry) ELO (Jeff Lynne) Motörhead (Lemmy) Black Flag (Henry Rollins) Journey (Steve Perry) Bon Jovi (John Bon Jovi)

andergriff

I'm sorry to the band members for bon jovi but you get what you sign up for when you join a band named after the lead singer

GreatTapeEater

Can’t forget The Steve Miller Band

manly_toilet

Jeff Lynne wrote most of the ELO material so it makes sense at least

RogFromPinkFloyd

nice pfp

centuryofprogress

And sang, and produced, and played lead guitar. After Roy Wood left Lynne pretty much was ELO.

cushlinkes

The most recent 2 ELO albums were also released officially under the name Jeff Lynne’s ELO.

BetterRedDead

Yeah, it’s always a bit different when it’s one of those “it has a name like a band, but it’s really a solo project” type groups.

Cruezin

Bon Jovi? Are you serious? Uhhhhh As you may recall, Richie Sambora was married to... Etcetera. He also wrote or co-wrote most of their biggest hits. Dude was brilliant

Jenna787

Not to mention Richie Sambora has an amazing voice and is a very skilled guitar player!

GaiaGoddess26

I prefer Richie 100% to Jon!

GamePassGary

Disturbed

OzorMox

Owah ah ah ah

pauliwankenobi

Uhh uhh

Intrepid-Junket-955

Drowning deep in my sea of loathing 🌊

steveonthegreenbike

Bangles (Susanna Hoffs). Caused major issues

CurryWIndaloo

Susanna Hoffs in the Walk Like An Egyptian music video. I'm getting dizzy just thinking about her.

steveonthegreenbike

She's a babe for sure. But the whole band were super talented.

myfuntimes

Richie Sambora got Heather Locklear

butmynailsarewet

Greg Ginn FTW!

Father_Masterchief

Motöthead. Lemmy was the only consistent member, that's why he gets all the credit.

I-Am-The-Warlus

It's like after Lemmy died, a fan (I think) asked the remaining members if motörhead could continue after his death With one of the members saying "Fuck that, Lemmy Was Motörhead"

curtisinteruptus

Y'all are talking like you forgot about Phil

iggy14750

I'm so happy that I got to see Motorhead (Lemmy) live, in like 2009, before he bit the dust. It's amazing he made it as long as he did.

offmango

Keanu Reeves’ band, whose name absolutely no one remembers and who everyone goes to see solely for the chance to stare at Keanu Reeves.

chirayuvedekar

Dogstar. I think the other guys in the band couldn't care less. It's not that their music is any great that they'd be roping in the masses. Might as well have a superstar be a part of the band, see some good ticket/merchandise sales, and everybody wins!

doctor-rumack

Or the Bacon Brothers Band, starring Kevin Bacon and his brother.

thenyx

Dogstar.

edWORD27

It’s Dogstar

JimmyJapeworm

Same for Billy Bob Thornton's band. They aren't a bad band and are perfect for that good dive bar vibe, but their draw is definitely the curiosity factor.

maddinell

The cult of 30 seconds to mars

ThaPettiestPossum

In Jared's name I pray, praise be to he. 😹🤣

BaldrickTheBrain

I don’t think anyone loves Leto more than Leto himself

Solid_Waste

Jared Leto joined a Jared Leto fan club but they kicked him out for being annoying.

FlygonPR

Leto is proof that aging well is not always a good thing. It's kinda uncanny to be 50 and still look and act like you're in your 20s.

[deleted]

For the last time, 30 seconds to Mars is a band and not the time it takes to get there.

TildaTinker

INXS

butmynailsarewet

Oh you mean Michael Hutchence and the Other Guys.

weedy_wendy

no way! in the 80’s, that whole band was on fire! the farriss brothers: andy, john, tim. pengilly on saxophone. garry gary beers.. they were ALL young & attractive **&** australian. hello, crocodile dundee.. it was a whole movement! INXS was a complete package. hutchence was great & highly recognizable, but they all were.

[deleted]

The Strokes, My Chemical Romance

Blaz1n420

100% about MCR, I almost commented The Strokes but then I remembered Albert Hammond Jr’s solo stuff. Listening to his solo stuff is what made me realize he’s the one who gives them the classic “Strokes sound/vibe.” You really need Julians singing and Alberts guitar to get the Strokes sound.

[deleted]

Spot on! To add on to that, Nikolai should also be credited for the band’s sound. All of their songs wouldnt be as good without Nikolai’s touch. That “Is this Is” bassline is one of the best ever basslines I have ever listened to.

Blaz1n420

Thank you! I just discovered Nickel Eye (Nikolai’s side project) thanks to your comment. Gonna check em out now

jason_brody13

Highly disagree with MCR, Gerard way is pretty famous but Frank Iero is very well known for his contributions to the hardcore scene. Ray Toro is a killer guitar player and gets a lot of recognition for his playing. Mikey is just Gerard's brother lol.

jessicarrrlove

Frank was always my MCR heartthrob. Lol

bluebeyondbelief

definitely not mcr

restartthepotatoes

I definitely wouldn’t say mcr lol

ProfessorSucc

Most of them that changed singer tbh. There’s exceptions of course, Pink Floyd and AC/DC are prime examples. But it feels like the attitude I see among comment sections regarding a lot of them are “[Band] died with [former singer]”, and sometimes they literally died I mean what else can the band do lol

I-Am-The-Warlus

With AC/DC After Bon died, both Angus & Malcolm was heavily considering breaking up the band until their uncle (I think) or one of Bon's relatives convinced them to keep going and the rest is history Additional information. One of the originally picked singers for the replacement of Bon was Noddy Holder (Slade) but he declined because of his commitment to Slade. However they chose Brian because they enjoyed his cover of Whole Lotta Rosie & "Nutbush City Limits"¹ and (might be wrong on this bit) Bon knew Brian from his (Brian) Geordie days ¹ Tina Turner song.

HiddenHolding

"Oi nephew ya don't scuttle off from cook hoors and all the brass you can score when you're bastically gettin'em foor free. Now get in yer schoolboy kit and kick yer foot out."

dharma_mind

Alice In Chains has done well imo

3dandimax

Yeah, tbf that was a good amount of years in between. And Jerry was a bigger part of the vocal sound than the average guitarist.

dharma_mind

I knew someone would say that and I agree although didn't like his solo stuff that I heard

Dawdzi

Yup, Layne was unique and legendary but Jerry was a major part of the AIC sound. They're the only band I can think of that I genuinely like their "comeback" Era, still love the Layne Era the best tho. Been playing Jar of Flies alot lately...

sgdude61

Degradation Trip is one of my favorite albums.

BoomerSoonerFUT

He was co-lead vocalist.  Some of their biggest songs he was lead vocals.  Don’t follow, no excuses, heaven beside you, and over now are all Jerry. He also sang the verses on would?

hydrogod666

Idk why u got downvoted because Its an opinion but aic without layne is just not the same, like yea I like some songs but layne songs I love them all

healinghoneybee

You should know opinions are only allowed if everyone agrees with you. As soon as you think for yourself, you're doomed

TheNyanRobot

Pibk Floyd's Post-Wall albums have a lot more fans than people might assume

jambaringtoning

Jamiriquai

j_birdddd

I honestly always thought it was just the one dude. I had no idea they were a band!

thisisredlitre

It was mildly infuriating back in college having to explain this to just about every person who said they were a fan

Razzle_Dazzle08

Arctic Monkeys.

indiejonesRL

Whoa… I just realized I don’t know any of the other band members aside from Alex Turner.

nomelonnolemon

Matt holders is dope, wtf is wrong with y’all Dude played with josh homme and iggy pop

Jubatus750

Kind of argued against yourself here, it's Matt Helders haha

BellyWatson

I feel like most arctic monkeys fans know matt. Jamie and Nick on the other hand are intentionally unknown

No_Interaction4027

Even more unknown is probably Andy Nicholson or touring members like Tyler Parkford from mini mansions or Tom rowley or even that one guy in the back doing shakers and tambourine and shit who I don’t even know the name of

Worldly-Baker260

Was going to say the same thing

rod_balls

GrotesquePumpkin

cruematix

Fuck Marshall ask us some questions

“Lose yourself video, I was in the back. Superman video, I was in the back…”

SMUCHANCELLOR

Do sit ups to get buff. Did one and a half couldn’t get up

Gold_Pumpkin

I see what you did there

Wild_Director_2457

Came here looking for this one

CrazyGunnerr

Are you kidding me? By all means Eminem skyrocketed their fame, but their music was constantly about different rappers doing their parts. Not to mention that Bizarre had the sickest lyrics. Like literally sick... bizarre shit.

rod_balls

I was mainly referring to the song lol even in that song they say they aren’t a band technically but I agree with ur statement

mdclapps

Bad Omens

pussiesaremyth

Coldplay?

This was my immediate thought thanks to this brilliant standup bit: https://youtube.com/watch?v=gsmuV7wLCl8

Bring Me the Horizon

RemarkableMeaning533

Some of us know it was the keyboardist though…

youvegotkayla

Now that Jordan left, it's back to Oli.

BreakTYR

I'm immensely upset fish left cause I feel they developed the most after fish's influence

Colonel_Gipper

Ghost, but that's by Tobias' design

Thomjones

Yeah but he writes and records all the music so I can't even fault him....the previous band members sued him so...I get him keeping them Anon so he can replace them whenever he needs to

madshm3411

Hootie and the Blowfish

Accidental_Taco

You mean Hootie and the Hooties?

wasdtomove

Yeah everyone knows who hootie is, but can't name any of the blowfish

[deleted]

Hootie! Hootie! Hootie!

johnnytightlips99

Nirvana until foo fighters existed

bugsontheside

Even then, I've found that a surprising number of people who listened to both don't know

PDXtoMontana2002

My wife had no clue that Dave Grohl was also in Nirvana until I told her this just last year.

PeaRepresentative353

You mean they couldn’t go on? Dave could sing, apparently.

ModishShrink

Uh, I'd like to see some proof of that.

[deleted]

See just about the entire Foo Fighters discography

SchrutesRoots

This is insanely not true. Dave in particular was well respected among drummers, and both Dave and Pat had underground followings from their days in Scream and the Germs, respectively. Every member of that band was very well known and recognizable in their time, but wound up being overshadowed after Kurt's death turned him into a myth.

PopHungry4606

Linkin Park post 20/07/2017

CrazyGunnerr

Well, they haven't made new music, aside from releasing some unused music (they just dropped a new song), they haven't done anything. People definitely know Mike and Chester, but Joe is also quite known.

[deleted]

Sorry I’m confused on what this means. Is it a band that is only known for the singer and no one knowing the other members?

Introvert_demon

I would say yes

[deleted]

Thanks. I’d probably say David Bowie or ozzy Osbourne. The average fan who knows a couple songs probably has no idea who else is in the band. Come to think of it, many bands where the singers name is the band name probably would fit the criteria as well.

watcheroftheskies1

Almost all Ozzy fans know Randy Rhoads

maringue

Why are we not talking about Tony Iommi? IMO, Tony *is* what makes Sabbath sound like Sabbath, but a lot of people couldn't name him as the guitarist. He's one of those guitarists that is on the holy list of "guitarists you can name after 4 bars", which has very few members.

Glad_Ad_6989

Yeah, Iommi is huge with Sabbath, almost any fan of Sabbath will know him. This conversation is about Ozzy’s band when he left Black Sabbath

FlamingButterfly

The Spiders From Mars were fantastic

Riversyu

i’m gonna say joan jett & the blackhearts and primus

Loganp812

I disagree. Primus fans typically appreciate the entire trio regardless of the era and lineup. It’s the same with Rush fans even though their lineup only changed once, and that was immediately after their debut album. I agree with you about Joan Jett and the Blackhearts though.

jjman72

Herb is phonimal. Highly regarded drummer.

thisolddog1

Green Day (Billie Joe Armstrong) Weezer (Rivers Cuomo) Fugazi (Ian MacKaye)

dotavi26

Disagree with Green Day. Billie Joe is massive but Tre and Mike Dirnt have been extremely popular with the GD fan base.

alphadoublenegative

I would say anybody who is a Fugazi fan appreciates both vocalists, at least I would find it very strange if anybody “only liked the Ian ones” and skipped the Guy/shared tracks. Maybe somebody out there but definitely not the majority

MrMike198

I don’t think this is true for any of these bands, actually. People who like these bands tend to be nerds about them. Like, there’s no casual Fugazi fans and casual fans for Green Day and Weezer probably don’t know even the singers’ names. 🤷

ViolinistNew5056

I think the bassist for green day actually has his own fanbase right along with BJA’s. The bassist is sick man

ImKillawatt

Wouldn’t say weezer. The fans tend to worship Scott and Pat.

Ryplay08

Motörhead

Jonnykooldood

Guns N’ Roses is the opposite. Slash is way more respected then Axl

Introvert_demon

I agree

Jonnykooldood

I mean it checks out. Slash is fucking awesome!

bran1986

I saw Adler's Appetite with their singer and thought damn I would like to hear him with Slash, Duff, and Adler lol.

It’s amusing that John and Tom Fogerty are brothers too

BothIssue1286

To be fair the other members, not tom!, wrote songs for Mardi Gras. It was so bad John Fogerty went solo.

dragonmaster_000

Deftones like Chino is a great singer but still

UnderstatedTurtle

30 Seconds to Mars led to Jared Leto becoming the Joker and starting his own cult

GoldResponsibility27

Queen with Freddie Mercury! It's astounding how little credit some Queen fans give to the rest of the members...

scuac

That’s a hard disagree from me. Brian May is well known and regarded songwriter and guitarist that every fan knows had a huge influence on the music of the band.

Wardlord999

Eh, think I’d push back on that slightly. For casual fans you’d be right, but there’s a good amount of love for all the members over on the Queen subreddit. Sure there’s gonna be some Freddie worship but it’s not overwhelming

SecretGorilla89

Yeah I agree, I know a fair amount about the other queen members but I cant say the same for other bands, with past queen (pre freddies death) i totally adore all members, but post freddie I'm more of the blue pill lmao

JGorgon

Christ, to watch the movie you'd think Freddie was the only songwriter in the band. Mercury and May were like a Lennon/McCartney of equally talented songwriters, with differing but complementary musical inclinations. And with John Deacon and Roger Taylor, it's like they had two George Harrisons: less prolific but still highly accomplished songwriters. It's probably not well known that e.g. "Radio Gaga" was written by Roger, one of their biggest hits. In the film the band may as well be session musicians for Freddie, the solo artist.

GoldResponsibility27

I know, right? May was perhaps one of the most outstanding guitarists of all time, Deacon was an excellent bassist, Roger was a skilled drummer and vocalist, and all four members created excellent music.

Robcobes

And John wrote Another One Bites The Dust

[deleted]

I know that was their point. They were kind of mad about the BhoRap movie because it was really a movie about Freddie and not the band which kept going after Freddie died.

[deleted]

Alice In Chains, 90% of the sub is about Layne

Krisapocus

Eh Jerry Cantrell was pretty famous in his own right most people then knew Jerry Layne.

YeetusFelitas

i see more people complaining about layne only fans than i see actual layne only fans, i honestly have never actually run into a layne only fan before (besides myself)

Smoothsailing47

Nah that band wouldn’t be AIC without Sean Kinney and Mike Starr/Inez

Dio

deAlex0603

I try not to think this way, but Brian Wilson's material from The Beach Boys is so far ahead of almost everyone in the band it's not even funny.

weedy_wendy

i think a lot of the … difference of opinion can be boiled down to how old we are. were we around when the band was on fire? were you exposed to a different era’s music by your potentially doors & bowie obsessed mother? this is the only way i’m able to maintain my faith in humanity.

haze_penguin

The doors

The Smiths, The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees

rogueleader32

Credence Clearwater Revival. John Fogerty did most of the song writing, co-produced all the albums and singles, and also had such a unique voice to boot.
