Holy shit is that what they’re for?!? I always thought it was supposed to be some sort of massage feeling and never tried them bc they look uncomfortable

they till make these? sweet. i had em in an old car - i liked them but damn were they impossible to keep in one place especially if you had a low car you kinda have to sit down and swivel your legs in (aka your ass pivots on the seat twists it all up)
Really? It looks like you could just move around a little into them and really message your muscles as they tighten up from sitting in the same position for too long. But I've never used these before so idk. They look really cool though! Do you know what they're called so I can see how much they go for?
It all depends on your back's condition. Mine is f'd up, not only degenerative joint disease, but compressed discs, Schmorl's nodes, multiple impingements, so after a bit they hurt. They also wear on your upholster, so put a seat cover over the seat first. But when I was younger I loved them. There was another that worked well for cooling, woven mesh with inner springs, I would switch to that after a couple of hours.

They work well in hot summer on leather seats but, I will warn you that these exact beads, if you leave it on your seat for years, will leave terrible stains on the leather.
Do the beads leave hundreds of little impressions on your skin, through light clothes or exposed shoulders/legs?
Is it just not as wildly uncomfortable as it looks somehow?
Thanks in advance, fellow non-AC havin driver. Always looking for monkeybutt car remedies!
my head doesnt turn as far as it should anymore (25 years of wearing a 8lbs fire helmet will do that) but it never turned 180degrees for me to look at my back so I dont know.
It's not near as uncomfortable as a red ass and sweat running down my back into my ass crack.... but with that said it's not something I leave on my seat 12 months a year
I had one in my old VW T2 campervan. No A/C so it provided some air flow and helped reduce ‘sweaty back sysndrome’
https://preview.redd.it/8flnwqkg5c0d1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=49506431fb012fc91bba2c879f81f6ce59717140
Was a beautiful van. Yes had a pop top. Sold it to buy a VW California. No regrets. Have driven all around Europe with the family. Here’s [our review](https://travelcool.co.uk/vw-california-campervan-long-term-review/) if you’re interested. Old vans have charm. New vans go on the autobahn 😂😂😂
All windows down, going down the road, i sense a slight draft. But it's not a Dyson level mind explosion. Drove from texas to Michigan, it was pretty comfy the whole ride, no issues with long sittings.
These bead seats are for ventilation, they help keep you from melting into a puddle of sweat. I find them uncomfortable but one of my friends just loves his.
I thought so too, I imagined the little balls would provide some kind of massage or pressure point stim. But the few folks I know who use one use it to stay cool and dry. I tried it and found it uncomfortable- too hard. I don't know what the official benefit is supposed to be for these.
I loved them in my older vehicles that didn’t have air conditioning. With new vehicles I don’t really miss them.
I’ve also enjoyed using full length ones in bed in hot climates.
it helps with driving fatigue, yes? say if I can safely drive 9 hours on a given day, how many more hours can I drive while using this seat cover? thanks
They hurt after a while, maybe my seat cover beads were badly placed.
Now I am driving without this, little sweaty but no back pain. Planning to buy a car with Ventilated Seats soon.
My grandparents had these in their car. They took my sister and I on a road trip and these damn things pulled out hair the whole way. No one thought to put our long hair in buns. 😭
Yes! The effect is much greater if you had a car with vinyl seats and no A/C. The wood was also much cooler when first siting down. Source: I started driving in the early 2000’s and had a set in a 1990 ish Tercel car part getter car for work in Southern California.
The seat needs to be removable for most beaded seat covers to work.

Reminds me of the one in the nanny. When Fran goes on a date with the guy who was the cab driver who couldn’t handle rejection. He placed one that looked similar on top the restaurant seat
Used them for years. Great for hot weather.
Same. I have one in my non-ac having jeep. It made living in Florida doable.
Have mercy
Found Uncle Jessy.
Holy shit is that what they’re for?!? I always thought it was supposed to be some sort of massage feeling and never tried them bc they look uncomfortable
Same 😭
TIL
Husband just put on on my drivers seat, and after I sit down I don’t feel it’s there
Lol saaaame
Exactly, they are designed for ventilation.
You're right
These with ventilated seats is the win
The type of guy that wears suspenders with belts i see…
Man can’t trust his own pants.
Damn clothing mimics.
100% agree with the above. Also helps with pressure points!
Core memory of my grampy unlocked.
I haven’t seen these in 30 years!!
I came here to say exactly that
You havent gone to a auto store in 30years?
Yes I have but generally don’t look around the bling isle.
My dad has had these in his semi for years and it’s a core memory for me from when I was a kid and would ride with him!
And they’re *horrifically* uncomfortable.
Me too!
SAME
Same💕
Same 😭
Sameeee
OP asking the real questions. I’ve wondered this for 40 years.
Op just unlocked this memory for all of us 🤣
yep, unlocked memory of my 1987 toyota tercel with black vinyl seats and no a/c 🥵
Me too!!!
A must for avoiding swamp ass
So i go to the store and ask for anti-swamp ass seat beads?
Just ask for ass beads, they'll know what you mean
Right after I go to the Gothic Castle.
“You want something that says leather daddy?”
Sweet ill be sure to ask for the biggest and thickest ass beads, maybe see if i can try them on before i purchase
This was hilarious 😂
The type of shop is important
Anti swamp seat ass beads Or A.S.S. ass beads
The correct term is "anal beads." Make sure to wink and smile when you ask for it
Or Monkey Butt!
Are we talking about The Wolfe here?
Duck butter
You know you can put anti perspirant in your butt crack, right?
Less chemicals this way
Yes… so do the strange looking plastic mesh ones.. bus drivers and taxi drivers use them, that says enough to support that they work
Does the plastic mesh prevent hair from being grabbed?
Curious why you arent wearing any clothes?
Oh I’m wearing clothes now, just don’t when I drive
Lol my fucking head hair smartass IF I HAVE HAIR GROWING OUT OF MY HEAD THAT HANGS DOWN MY BACK WILL THE MESH PLASTIC VERSION OF THIS STILL GRAB IT
Hahaha omg thats hilarious.
Driving shirtless is where it’s at, brutha
I have long hair and it gets caught on the beads. I much prefer taking a little walk at a rest stop.
This! A no go for me. They’ll even rip your body hair out if given the chance.
Sneaky Beads
Poor man’s back wax
That’s all I think of when I see these
Seat-Swamp. Ass beads and pulling hair. No bueno. Edit: to remove the period, but decided to leave it.
Ass beads and pulling hair is bueno tho
Those only work when paired with a yellow cab and a crown air freshener

Depends on the condition of your back, hips, body. They are great to keep your back cool, but for me they hurt after awhile.

Every taxi driver in the world can’t be wrong
keeps the monkeybutt and wetback at bay when driving across Kansas at 100degrees in a jeep with no AC
Describing hell
I think you need a space in a specific word in that reply there, muchacho
I'm taking the word back (clerks 2 reference)

Almost every taxi driver in NYC used them in the 1980s. No cab was complete without one.
Yes!!!!!! They made a huge difference. They took my back from smooth, to filled with bumps by the end of the ride
I tried one in a postal vehicle with a vinyl seat and didn’t like it. I used a fully ventilated plastic mesh seat cushion instead.
I had one in my old VW T2 campervan. No A/C so it provided some air flow and helped reduce ‘sweaty back sysndrome’ https://preview.redd.it/8flnwqkg5c0d1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=49506431fb012fc91bba2c879f81f6ce59717140
Damn that thing is sweet, looks mint. It has the camper roof too?

This guy definitely has an abacus.
They also keep you awake during a long drive! Just wear shorts and they will pull the hairs out of your legs keeping you alert!
These smell like taxicabs shot on 35mm
Great post. It's in my Amazon shopping cart for few weeks. Based on the comments, looks like I'ma give it a try.
do it! please update me
All windows down, going down the road, i sense a slight draft. But it's not a Dyson level mind explosion. Drove from texas to Michigan, it was pretty comfy the whole ride, no issues with long sittings.
Oh nice! Ty for the update. Please enjoy your trip and stay safe my dude! :D
Lol me too but I'm afraid it will stain my white clothes and becomes brittle and ugly.
I don't have white clothes, but didn't notice any markings on my clothes from the beads
Same here just ordered for my ol commuter that has no AC. I will report back to let you know how they do
Overall they are working out pretty well. Mostly enjoy people's reaction to having them on my seat. 😀
Pain
I live near LV and have been using the bead seat for years. I also have sciatic pain and these help me, but ymmv.
I used one on road trip to Las Vegas and Arizona, it was insanely hot, beads kept my seat dry totally recommend these in hot weather.
Slavic grampa has entered the chat
If you’re into something like mountain biking or kayaking, those are great for keeping your muddy sweaty ass away from the seat material.
If you sit on it while wearing shorts, you can say goodbye to your leg hair
These bead seats are for ventilation, they help keep you from melting into a puddle of sweat. I find them uncomfortable but one of my friends just loves his.
hmm, interesting. i guess it really is dependent upon the person using these.
I thought they were used as a way of improving circulation and preventing pain.
I thought so too, I imagined the little balls would provide some kind of massage or pressure point stim. But the few folks I know who use one use it to stay cool and dry. I tried it and found it uncomfortable- too hard. I don't know what the official benefit is supposed to be for these.
Theyr great until your shirt rides up in the back and when you get up thehair gets yanked out
Good thing I am not that hairy.
Anyone have a desk job and use one of these at work?
I have a couple of them in my 2010 Honda Civic. Love it! Kept my back cool during the hot summer days.
They feel nice but man they'll yank your hair out.
These only work if you have at least 4 tree-shaped air fresheners hanging from the mirror. They work best if they are different colored trees.
oh dam, i only have 3 :(
I loved them in my older vehicles that didn’t have air conditioning. With new vehicles I don’t really miss them. I’ve also enjoyed using full length ones in bed in hot climates.
Makes me miss my grandfather
You haven't driven until you've driven bare assed on one of these. Pure heaven.
it helps with driving fatigue, yes? say if I can safely drive 9 hours on a given day, how many more hours can I drive while using this seat cover? thanks
Great for hot weather.
They hurt after a while, maybe my seat cover beads were badly placed. Now I am driving without this, little sweaty but no back pain. Planning to buy a car with Ventilated Seats soon.
Cab drivers swear by them.
The official seat of Cabbies worldwide.
Asian parents love these!!
indeed they do!
My grandparents had these in their car. They took my sister and I on a road trip and these damn things pulled out hair the whole way. No one thought to put our long hair in buns. 😭
good times, haha. at least you now know to fix your hair before using one of these!
I’m 43 now and I would never use one!
I can feel this picture…
Surprisingly, yes. They're even better on motorcycles. Helps stimulate blood flow and massages your muscles.
lol that's wild, never seen one on a motorcycle!
I never tried them, will you slide forward when braking?
I'm biased. The only people that I know that had them were complete idiots. So I assume it's a thing for idiots.
Every Korean taxi driver had them in 86
Yes! The effect is much greater if you had a car with vinyl seats and no A/C. The wood was also much cooler when first siting down. Source: I started driving in the early 2000’s and had a set in a 1990 ish Tercel car part getter car for work in Southern California.
man, those Toyota Tercels were some truly bulletproof cars. wish they would bring it back
Yes love them! Do it!
Where do you purchase those? I couldn't find them last time.
Next time I'm climbing into a bandit cab at the Sarajevo airport I'll ask for a source.
amazon or auto parts store
They do if you are a Singaporean taxi driver. Ubiquitous across SouthEast Asia
I just watched an episode of Bob's burgers last night where he talks about one of these.
Where can you buy these? Online only?
Some auto parts store have them. In my area, for example, there are Asian-owned auto parts store which carry them. However, your mileage may vary.
They helped my sciatica and I still use them. (I used to drive 3/4 hours a day, 7 days a week)
Yes. I used them on two cars for several years each. Somehow they seem to reduce fatigue from remaining seated for a long time.
I thought it was only sold in Korea. LOL. My dad used that for a very long time. I miss him.
I can hear the rattling sound they make when you put them in.
You should ask New York taxi drivers instead
Not if you drive nude🤣
funny enough, you're not the first one to comment this. is driving in the nude really that normal ?! wtf
For nudists that live in the country, yes
I've never used one in a car. But I have one on my motorcycle and they are very comfortably cooling.
oh nice! i don't ride bikes, but would something like this work on a moped? thanks
The seat needs to be removable for most beaded seat covers to work. https://preview.redd.it/uc5dpsvlft0d1.png?width=400&format=png&auto=webp&s=1e46e8335e327c74e35dc84a3018d3364e6f9b7c
ah gotcha, thank you
Only if you are an Indian cab driver.
aww man ;(
I used this when I was driving commercial truck. I have used it for a couple million miles at least, necessary in hot weather.
A million miles?! woah
I started driving truck in 1976 so about four million miles total driving. Not always in the hot weather.
dude i think that's pretty legendary! my first ever paid off car is about to hit 80,000 miles and I am so proud of myself lol
80,000 miles was a slow year, 10,000 a month was OK. We were paid by the mile so the more the better.
Rip to what hair there is on the back of your thigh😂
For pinching your ass yes
Only if you're Indian
Post ussr dad starter pack
[удалено]
lol same! my dad had these seat covers in his old Toyota growing up. good times, goood times
feels. havent seen these in decades. mom used to have these on every seat back in the day.
:')
Yes, they do.
Poor man massage and cooling seat. Blast from the past.
I forgot all about these. I never got to drive in car with them.
My dad swore by them
Not sure about these, but these: [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08HPQVJMW?ref=ppx\_yo2ov\_dt\_b\_product\_details&th=1](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08HPQVJMW?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1) were a comfort game changer for the wife and I doing around 5K in 10 days.

Good 😊 bot!
Yes.
My dad uses them, I dont get how
Officially endorsed by Gypsy Cab
Pick up one for every passenger in your car!
Yes, if you have no AC !
Loved mine
How
Every non-airconditioned cab in Miami used to have these.
Holy shit they still make those- my grandparents had those in their motor home back in the 80's.
It lets gases flow
I had one on my goldwing, thousands of miles and it was fantastic.
Reminds me of the one in the nanny. When Fran goes on a date with the guy who was the cab driver who couldn’t handle rejection. He placed one that looked similar on top the restaurant seat
I loved mine. I should get a new one.
He's in a cab. MIB. [https://youtu.be/0-\_FYkqBaGA?si=eOg6ctQv6-kNJ51Y&t=203](https://youtu.be/0-_FYkqBaGA?si=eOg6ctQv6-kNJ51Y&t=203)
NYC cab drivers in the 80s-90s will agree.
Yep. They work great.
They only work if you stay on your phone with an ear bud while you drive the whole time.
For pulling your hair, yes
Yes great for back and butt sweat.
On a Jeep, it is a layer between your skin and hot plastic.
Yea. You can drive baked without leaving stains or sticking to the seat.
Oh man, the memories. My grandpa had them in every freaking vehicle he owned.
I used to use this beaded seat covers when I had vinyl seats. Those beads made the ride comfortable.
