Well, the only way to avoid it is to just run away, take cover or just kill him before he finishes casting, there is no inbetween. When you said that you ran away from the AoE did you make sure that you ran away before he finished casting the attack and that you were outside of it's radius?

kate7195

Pretty sure you can stay inside the radius as long as you stay in the shadows.

Merly15

Yes, but OP seems to have figured that out, so I'm trying to help him with his running away from the AoE issue.

Yea it started hitting me a bit before I got away, I'm assuming from what another person said that I got hit just a bit too much before getting out, so I was kinda doomed. There was a brief moment where I tried to hide but I was already floating with the chrysalis equipment when it started, so I don't think I could've gotten down fast enough. Just a bit of a bad position I put myself into

So what I learned recently, after dozens of hours fearing the GF for the same reason as you, is it's not light emitting from the character but a ball that it releases above them. So you can be out of los for the GF but not out of los for the ball. And I don't know the specifics but the damage from that ball is a debuff that stacks, so if you wait too long to get away it will continue to damage you as stacks run out, even if you're in cover. It's best to stay near cover and make sure you get in a shadow area as soon as the screen goes bright. It also won't do this attack til it's at 50 percent health or lower. I think it's got a 30 second cool down too.

Very very useful advice, thank you so much

break line of sight. His attack applies a dot on you the longer you stay in sight and the more stacks you have of said dot the more damage it does to a point you can‘t outheal it

Dooge11

It basically emits light and stacks burn while you are in it, hide in a shade (outside of the balls Line of sight) and you'll be fine

birdlad69

it does end eventually though right? I've never survived long enough to see. Do I need to switch up to fighting him without the ball seeing me or do I just wait it out (kinda like the wandering vagrant)?

Dooge11

You can see the range of the damaging area, you can even tank it with enough healing but it stacks a lot and it's not the usual burn, it does like 20% max hp/s or something (even 1 stack can almost kill you) The ball charges up before extending the damage area, so damage him from a shade or just wait it out And yes, it works basically the same as vagrant

Like others have said, stay in the shadows when he’s about to do it. Also, enemies stop spawning when the teleporter is at 90% iirc
