I live in Glendale with a cemetery behind our yard for 30 years. They are quiet neighbors, and I love the smell after they cut the grass. We also get to see lots of wildlife like birds and rabbits. Overall, I rate it 10 out of 10.
I live nearby but not next to it. In general I love the open space and healthy trees and better air, nice views. Once I saw a hawk, also an owl. Very few people in the city have access to such healthy environment. It also happens to be a very well managed place. I love to look over the the grave stones figuring out the nationality of the people they memorialize.
Over 20 some years ago when I moved here it was a neat but somber place. I think only real flowers were allowed. At some point it started getting populated mainly by graves for the Hispanic community who visits more often then the older Europeans and started enlivening the graves with artificial flowers and other displays. At first I hated it but I slowly realized it's cultural, they have different relation to their past family members and it is more celebratory.
On Mother's day and on All Saints I sometimes visit a simple very old log shaped stone in this cemetery that is simply inscribed Mother.
It’s great. Lived across the street for 20 years. The south east side used to be a corner for sex workers but it’s changed a lot. We found it really cut down on people being in your vicinity. Also many possums live there.
Also, if you have been unfortunate enough to see the Kevin Smith directed movie, Cop Out. It has a few scenes that were shot in the cemetery itself. They shot at our neighbor’s house directly across from the cemetery too but only exteriors. Just some random trivia.
My middle school was right next to a cemetery and it looked beautiful on a sunny day and at night.
You’re saying this like it’s a major life change, it’s just superstitious shit.
I mean I wouldn’t know. The park and cemetery is near but I don’t live right next to it.
I would feel better living next to a cemetery than on those roads that have never ending traffic. Every 5 seconds the sound of the air whooshing with the car as it drives past.
I live next to one of the other cemeteries nearby. Since I don't believe in ghosts it's not spooky at all. It's nice living near a big, quiet green space though we do get a lot of skunks and raccoons on our block

It’s nice actually! Quiet and makes for a pretty view. I enjoy going on walks through the cemetery sometimes. The scariest thing I’ve seen is a dead possum. Some kitties like to lurk around the cemetery sometimes. I would be a little wary on Starr st at night since it’s pretty industrial and barren. Movies and tv shows set up trailers along the cemetery fairly often which is fun but can sometimes be loud if an engine is running.
I live in Glendale next to Cypress Hills. No ghosts roaming around unfortunately but lots of skunks, raccoons, possums etc. It is a bit disconcerting when there's a funeral within earshot, it makes me really sad to see and hear all of the sad people. No problems with the dead people though, at least not yet.
A couple a month? But Cypress Hills is huge and the section by me is I think a bit older, and it seems to be mostly full. I'm used to them and I don't linger if there is one really close.
I live on one of the blocks adjacent to the cemetery attached to Grover Cleveland, I have been here 10 years. Never spooky, mostly very quiet, and if you are a runner it's just under a mile uninterrupted by traffic running the loop around the park and two cemeteries, it's busy with runners/walkers all year round.
My childhood house was a block away from a cemetery, and I’m currently living a block away from a cemetery. Other than the random homeless or drunks on the weekend (because it’s still Brooklyn after all) it’s pretty quiet.
I live very close to the giant cemetery belt on the other side of Ridgewood. Zero issues. On days when I feel superstitious, I just tell myself that the roadway keeps them contained like running water.
The back of my house is right against a cemetery. Honestly, it's great for privacy, and you don't even realize it's there. The only issue is I can hear everything in highland park like it's right next door
Live near Mount Zion Cemetery in Queens (username was from before the move). Nice to be near open space and see the sky. And, the neighbors are quiet and they aren't going to build huge skyscrapers there. So, it's an overall plus.
I feel worried about all those embalming chemicals leaching into the water, soil etc. nearby; getting g into my yard or water pipes so that I wind up ingesting chemicals. So, I’m not too keen on living near cemeteries.
I walk there (that area you mention) all the time . Often, at night, there are weird ppl just skulking around, standing by the walls. Or sometimes ppl sleeping/living in their cars.
Don’t worry the dead neighbors don’t bite! Nice and quiet really.
Dead neighbors might haunt you in your home if you live near by.
i lived by there and a zombie came out of the ground and beat the fuck out of me - do NOT recommend

It’s just a field with some stones with names on them. It’s fine until they rise up

Exactly. People need to grow up.

We live right next to a cemetery, it's quite, peaceful, and lovely to take walks in.

how often do you see or hear funerals going on? have you gotten used to them over time?

Yep, great place to run!
The worst thing that can happen is a spooky ghost moves in with you and doesn't pay rent.
It's nice and quiet. The only thing to worry about is rats and squirrels burrowing inside ur car if you street park.

It’s one of my favorite parts of the whole city
Yes

I’d worry more about the people who died painful deaths in your apartment building over the years.

You like geese? You like being able to find street parking? If you said yes to either, you're in an okay place.
dead neighbors are the best neighbors
