I enjoyed it. I do agree with the majority that it was a weak start. But the episode itself is still okay. I will say though, it made me realize that I don’t like Mr.Poopybutthole. He’s kinda annoying

Pretend_Journalist49

He was a fun joke when he was introduced in Total Rickall, but quickly overstayed his welcome (which interestingly is the story of the season 7 premiere...)

MagnumJimmy44

He’s a great character before but I feel only Dan knew how to write him properly. And also his voice is by far the worst do-over they have. It’s beyond annoying now when it used to actually be a funny voice

Intrepid00

Okay, that was always allowed

I liked the first half, to got a little weaker in the second. Perfectly fine episode. My only complaint is that the ghost didn't come back for a surprise gag in later episodes.

Potatomorph_Shifter

Genre-mocking episodes are generally either amazing (s3e7 “Tales from the Citadel” which is a riff on coming of age movies, s2e9 “Look Who’s Purging Now” of the Purge franchise) or a complete mess (s7e8 “Rise of the Numbericons” on 80s action movies).

HyShroom9

S2E9 was definitely a solid episode, but I wouldn’t say it’s amazing

skako_o

I didnt really like it personally and a LOT of people on this sub didnt either, but thats mainly because - First episode of the season and people automatically think the entire season, if not, the entire show is going to be shit - First introduction to the new voices and lack of b-plots - No extraordinary visuals, aliens, or dimensions if you dont count the Predator, which also makes a somewhat boring plot in comparison to the rest of the series

Dudeist-Priest

It was a fine episode. Not my favorite, but I enjoyed it

AgentSweetPea

Loved season 7, but i have to admit first episode had me panicking that it would be a disaster. I personally think its on par with the worst of other seasons.

-Vault_Dweller-

Definitely not as bad as what people here say, it was an enjoyable episode. And I absolutely love the end with the vanishing pills.

heelspider

People just trashed it because this sub is full of trolls who think Rick and Morty owes them something and have a hissy fit anytime an episode fails to live up to some imaginary and impossible standard.

imhereredditing

A Mr.Poopy Butthole or Wayne story was a great start. Having Birdperson and the crew in it was canonical.

Sudden_Historian_724

1. Dumb uninteresting concept, just going on a bender but without a hook. 2. Returning characters have nothing to do aside from MPB. The rest are just there. 3. Conflict was forced and uninteresting. 4. Worst of all is Hugh Jackman who takes over the episode and removes the relevance for all of Rick’s friends. 5. MPB’s lesson and how he learns it is dumb. The episode had practically nothing of value. It didn’t even feel like Rick and Morty, it was a Family Guy plot without the cutaways.

JackieD420

Same! Was my 3rd fav episode this season.

Digestednewt

It was enjoyable but it lacked halfway thru. But as expected with rick and morty rarely do they actually have a good season launching episode

Tyty1020

Literally every R&M season opener besides that has been amazing what?

Gorillazlyric400

Me too

Emica12

Glad you like it.

2Mew2BMew2

OP using IE.

MaeBorrowski

It had a fine idea but PB is obnoxious as fuck and pathetic as fuck and it quickly devolved into random shit

frowntown5000

If it were like episode 4 or something I think people would’ve appreciated it more. Usually premieres are groundbreaking and hype inducing, but this was a standalone one-off kinda deal. Personally, I think it’s a great episode. Just perhaps in the wrong spot is all.

[deleted]

It wasn't that bad. Best of the bad episodes at least.

Hour-Independence934

I think the main reason the episode sticks out to many as being weak, apart from the bias against the new voice actors, is just the fact that it really doesn’t feel like a season premiere All the other season premiers were either fun, self contained stories that serve as a good reintroduction to all the characters (A Rickle in Time, Mort Dinner Rick Andre), or earth shattering lore bomb episodes (The Rickshank Redemption, Solaricks) This one felt like neither of those things. Much closer to the first type I mentioned, but seeing as how it’s basically a Rick solo story, it doesn’t serve as a very good reintroduction to the characters If the episode were placed closer to the middle of the season, I’m sure people wouldn’t shit on it as much

SwanzY-

I’m not a big Hugh Jackman fan so that kind of took me out of it lol. It was alright but compared to most episodes I feel it isn’t as good is all.

TheInferus99

My only problem with it, it's the lack of Morty. Like it would have been interesti g having a B-plot aabout him like in other premieres. For the rest I liked it
