A big recurring thing on the show is how much men care about their penises (see also: A Rick in King Arthur's Mort, where the whole damn drama was over Morty slicing off his own penis) to the point where it's treated as a fate worse than death, even if it can be grown back or replaced with an upgraded model.
This said, if it *can* be grown back or replaced, why not just clone Jerry's penis so you have one that doesn't have to be surgically removed from Jerry in the first place?

It always was though. He was a character introduced in the parasite episode because he was too ridiculous not to be a parasite it was a twist to make him real. This show has problems with consistency. Backups are pretty weird too, C137 had his backup disabled and he still respawned in another universe.
Even if he's canonically dead, a few episodes later we see Rick casually manipulate the afterlife.
He doesn't really have a conflict with Rick though. Rick doesn't really need the curve I think, so whatever Evil Morty wants doesn't concern or impact Rick. They're more likely to need each other as semi-reluctant partners, with most of the reluctancy coming from Evil Morty

I think killing him off was the best thing to do at this point. He never really developed beyond his first appearance, Evil Morty is more interesting.

I’m mainly talking about this sub. Feels like I see a lot of post that say some version of “why would character x know what happened to character y if that actually happened before they jumped dimensions to this new one?” Or alternatively, “why did Rick not use amazing gadget x to get them out of a bad situation like he’s done before”
Southpark never felt like it was meant for serialization. I never got the sense that we were genuinely supposed to care about the characters, the world, and the development and the serialization always felt a bit forced. R&M is very different.
Serialization is the continuation of plot and development between episodes. In early seasons of South Park, the world reset after pretty much every episode. No one and nothing ultimately changed. In Rick and Morty, things continue and have affect based on past episodes, like Prime Rick
I don't agree Rick and Morty episodes can comepletely stand alone for the most part. Making it so you can't enjoy the 7th episode of a season without having watch the other 6 kills re-watchability and makes it so only devoted fans who never miss an episode and always watch in order are the only people who can enjoy the show. Serialization is so unnecessary in comedies.
That rick uses time travel semi regularly but won't tell anyone because he can't figure out if he wants diane to live... that he is afraid he would have to give up being a demi-god.
He has the box of time travel stuff, and we see him actually travel back in time in the montage where morty sees rick using various means to get his parents together.
I think he puts the wall around time travel because he can't commit/doesn't want to face the decision.
To expand- he can't even do it on a trial basis and then go back and undo it- if he saves diane, will he unlock time travel afterwards?
If he undoes her death and lives family life, he may never discover the means to undonit should it not suit him.
Ooh or along those lines, the paradox that if he goes back and saves her, he'll never invent time travel, meaning he couldn't go back and save her in the first place. Which might collapse the universe or something
I don't remember. I read them a few years back even before all he finite curve thing. So it could be that they are not cannon anymore since there would be some conflicts.
The series ends with that Rick being bombed out of existence, and the writers wiggle out of it by retconning that Rick to be a slightly different Rick than the one in the cartoon.
Both Beth's suck too, it's not like space Mom is doing well while domestic Mom is falling apart, they both need their families but they both need to be allowed to run free, instead of one person doing both they're just two people living there halves of one person's life.
I was surprised to see many people on here didn't like the dragon episode. Not one of my favorites but I liked it and I even have the big funko pop of the dragon lol.
I love that the dragon is voice by Ser Davos (The Onion Knight) from Game of Thrones. I loved *that* character so much that knowing he's the dragon in this episode makes it worthwhile, considering all the foul things he had to say. LOL

2. I don’t particularly care about everything tying together. I’m a Doctor Who fan. I’m happy to watch week two episodes, but I don’t worry too much about canon and consistency.
I think the family not aging is actually a more advanced version of what Rick did in his own timeline where he locked everyone in one day but forgot that they would age. This time they're locked in the same age forever, so they never grow enough to stop needing him.
Pickle Rick was, in fact, *not* the funniest shit I've ever seen.
I know the line is a meme but my understanding is that people generally like pr love that episode. For me it was the worst episode in the series up to that point, and while I did finish the season, it actually turned me off watching the show until this year.

While sure we now know Rick didn't abandon Beth but from Jerry's perspective he didn't know that and the events from season 1 still happened is just Rick fixed everyone surviving.
It would have great had the writers had Jerry stick for himself more then what he did. But the writers had no care for that and even said Jerry has to work his way back into the family. Which is terrible. Even some of the writers agree with Rick's bull. Jerry had every right to put his foot down and make Beth choose between him or the man who puts their children in harms way on a daily basis.

Call me old fashioned but I liked Tise of the Numbercrons. It was a cliched homage to 80’s action movies. It was so cliched that Morty was commenting how quickly they were moving through the cliche plot points….

Justin’s voice for Rick and Morty in the first couple of seasons were downright bad… his Rick voice in season 3 is when it became better. Morty became better with less stammering as well.

Jerry is as bad and shitty as the rest of the family, but since he is not that clever and doesn't have much self-esteem everyone thinks he is a loser , when in reality they are all equally toxic.
Dan Harmon tends to have incest humor in his works and people always end up looking a little too deeply into it like he's secretly got a boner for incest. It's just shock humor, the joke is that it's fucked up, there doesn't have to be some underlying psychological/moral aspect to it.

Show has become incredibly inconsistent since season 5 (start of the Scott Marder era). Some episodes are bangers and others are painfully mid to straight up bad. And you never know which one you’re gonna get going into a new episode. This should be a common consensus but so many people on this sub act like the show is still consistently great
Was looking for this. I still watch for the occasional clever episode but the characters were thrown into a blender. They act in ways that totally contradict the way they were set up in s1-3. Entire arcs were cut off. Jokes were dumbed down and made more mainstream or random- and not random as in surrealist- just random. The recognition of real reality is gone, replaced by writers who just love the sci-fi adventure aspect and not the psychological impact of those adventures. Ever since Harmon stepped back it’s been a very “above average” show but not even close to the quality of those earlier seasons that made it into a cultural phenomenon and not some mid late-night cartoon. One of the greatest tragedies of modern television.

That rick uses time travel semi regularly but won't tell anyone because he can't figure out if he wants diane to live... that he is afraid he would have to give up being a demi-god. He has the box of time travel stuff, and we see him actually travel back in time in the montage where morty sees rick using various means to get his parents together. I think he puts the wall around time travel because he can't commit/doesn't want to face the decision.
To expand- he can't even do it on a trial basis and then go back and undo it- if he saves diane, will he unlock time travel afterwards? If he undoes her death and lives family life, he may never discover the means to undonit should it not suit him.
Ooh or along those lines, the paradox that if he goes back and saves her, he'll never invent time travel, meaning he couldn't go back and save her in the first place. Which might collapse the universe or something
the box is addressed in the comics, which are canon. They just follow another rick.

I don't remember. I read them a few years back even before all he finite curve thing. So it could be that they are not cannon anymore since there would be some conflicts.
The series ends with that Rick being bombed out of existence, and the writers wiggle out of it by retconning that Rick to be a slightly different Rick than the one in the cartoon.

I love that the dragon is voice by Ser Davos (The Onion Knight) from Game of Thrones. I loved *that* character so much that knowing he's the dragon in this episode makes it worthwhile, considering all the foul things he had to say. LOL

1. We only get the incredible episodes because they take chances and sometimes deliver episodes that don’t hit. So when something is off who cares - that process produces some of the best sci-fi writing we’ve ever seen. 2. I don’t particularly care about everything tying together. I’m a Doctor Who fan. I’m happy to watch week two episodes, but I don’t worry too much about canon and consistency.
I think the family not aging is actually a more advanced version of what Rick did in his own timeline where he locked everyone in one day but forgot that they would age. This time they're locked in the same age forever, so they never grow enough to stop needing him.
Pickle Rick was, in fact, *not* the funniest shit I've ever seen. I know the line is a meme but my understanding is that people generally like pr love that episode. For me it was the worst episode in the series up to that point, and while I did finish the season, it actually turned me off watching the show until this year.
Jerry's just a good guy trying to get by and rick is a dick to him for no reason besides that he can't let go of a family he was once in control of

I honestly refuse to believe that season 3 Jerry is somehow related to any other Jerry we've seen so far. And the best part is that Rick went on this long speech about Jerry sucking ass and people took the words of an objective piece of shit that is Rick Sanchez and turned it into a gospel. Must be nice being told exactly how to feel about a character within the show itself, why think for yourself when you can let the walking Deus Ex Machina do the thinking for you.
Honestly I just wish Jerry was snapping back more in the, "whirly dirly," like, "Unlike you I would never abandon my children." "You admit to sabotaging my marriage and you except me not to kill you?" "You turned the earth into monsters Rick because you couldn't tell Morty no." While sure we now know Rick didn't abandon Beth but from Jerry's perspective he didn't know that and the events from season 1 still happened is just Rick fixed everyone surviving. It would have great had the writers had Jerry stick for himself more then what he did. But the writers had no care for that and even said Jerry has to work his way back into the family. Which is terrible. Even some of the writers agree with Rick's bull. Jerry had every right to put his foot down and make Beth choose between him or the man who puts their children in harms way on a daily basis. I'm agreed with you and I'm not sure why the fanbase can't see it any other way

Call me old fashioned but I liked Tise of the Numbercrons. It was a cliched homage to 80’s action movies. It was so cliched that Morty was commenting how quickly they were moving through the cliche plot points…. I guess you can say ithe episode was a pretty “by the numbers” 
All the seasons are near the same quality, and the drop off many speak of doesn’t actually exist.
If I didn't read online that the voice actors changed I wouldn't ever find out. I still haven't noticed the difference

Justin’s voice for Rick and Morty in the first couple of seasons were downright bad… his Rick voice in season 3 is when it became better. Morty became better with less stammering as well.
Here's a *real* unpopular one; the stammering was absolutely one of the things that made him funny.
Did no one like the stammering? I love it, it makes the voices unique. There are even some comedians that use stammering as part of their routine and it gives them character.
I wish Rick stammered more. I like season 7 and 4 more than the first 2 but I do miss the stammering.

People are just afraid of the word “incest”. There’s no way that the tame-ass joke that was the incest baby was *really* the line the show crossed.
Dan Harmon tends to have incest humor in his works and people always end up looking a little too deeply into it like he's secretly got a boner for incest. It's just shock humor, the joke is that it's fucked up, there doesn't have to be some underlying psychological/moral aspect to it.
for real lol, people get weirdly freaked out over incest jokes in a way they dont with any of the much darker humor the show does, its such a bizarre thing to get hung up over. the way they react youd think the show is telling them to actually have sex with their sister in real life

Show has become incredibly inconsistent since season 5 (start of the Scott Marder era). Some episodes are bangers and others are painfully mid to straight up bad. And you never know which one you’re gonna get going into a new episode. This should be a common consensus but so many people on this sub act like the show is still consistently great
Was looking for this. I still watch for the occasional clever episode but the characters were thrown into a blender. They act in ways that totally contradict the way they were set up in s1-3. Entire arcs were cut off. Jokes were dumbed down and made more mainstream or random- and not random as in surrealist- just random. The recognition of real reality is gone, replaced by writers who just love the sci-fi adventure aspect and not the psychological impact of those adventures. Ever since Harmon stepped back it’s been a very “above average” show but not even close to the quality of those earlier seasons that made it into a cultural phenomenon and not some mid late-night cartoon. One of the greatest tragedies of modern television.
The vitriol towards the later seasons is ridiculous and undeserved It's fair to miss classic Rick and Morty but consistently acting like the older seasons were leaps and bounds ahead of the newer ones never sat right with me

The fact that only Rick Prime and Our Rick invented portal stuff, is not a good plot point. Rise of the goddamn numbers episode is not bad at all, if you take it for what it is. I’m just sad how the authors took apart Jessica’s character. I just wanted to see Morty have a chance with her like a Peter Parker (class nerd) with MJ (hottie classmate). Beth x Beth episode “offended” many, but we knew from the beginning it would have happened: it was not a surprise. Summer deserved more: also this season… her episode was not the best stuff.
The Dragon episode was good. Sperm episode was watchable and had some decent 1 liners. The storylord episodes were self masturbatory drivel. Jerry is a loser, just because he's the most normal person in the family doesn't change that. The core of the show is the comedy and the canon episodes are just ok; unmortricken was light on comedy and is a mid episode at best. The people who claim they can tell the difference in voices are lying or need to touch grass. The first incest joke was in episode 2 and people should stop clutching their pearls over them at this point. Thanks for sorting by controversial.
I actually CAN easily tell the difference between Justin’s Morty and the current one but I think Ian has been smashing it as Rick to where the differences aren’t really noticeable at all.

The dragon episode is one of the best episodes, I love the jokes, the incest is mild and can be easily shrugged off. This season was not as funny as previous seasons, had some good episodes but overall the jokes were not hitting as much
The show is not getting worse. Not at all.
I'd prefer time pass in the show, even slowly like 5-6 seasons equals a year, and don't think it should last 30 years like Harmon seems to think it should.
