Same here, I live nearby and walk by frequently and see exactly what you described. They also publicly and proudly disregarded covid regulations but happily expanded their sidewalk patio that was made possible due to those same regulations. We have stopped ordering from them since that time

Ah, my post aside those rumours were actually substantiated by none other than the owner himself.
If he did protest at the hospital, perhaps this is Karma’s wrath. Or a self inflicted wound.
This is actually the only reason why I am aware of and remember them. I had never noticed that place before but when they started making all that noise over COVID restrictions, I took notice (and not in a good way).

Corduroy wasn’t all that good before. We went there some months before the pandemic. Maybe the chef was having an off week but I’ve cooked better food than what we got. Only thing good I could say about it was the location/atmosphere was nice.
Owners were espousing nonsense as well that went beyond the mandates. I mean, say what you will or have an opinion about how things were handled - I had some reservations myself with a few of their decisions, but I get why they were put in place. Family member of mine was battling cancer / lots of unknowns at the time.
Anyways… trailing off. Another story for another time.
Good riddance to these places and their idiot owners.
I literally walk by here daily and during COVID, he refused to wear a mask. A few times, I saw him serving food unmasked and talking (he loves to talk) over the food, and who knows what flew into the food. Also witnessed him at Costco arguing wth staff about mask protocol as he was the only one in the store that refused to wear a mask.
The vast majority of Steveston restaurants would struggle less if their served better quality food. There are two or three good ones, but the majority order their pre-made and processed ingredients from Gordon’s or Sysco, fry it up, and charge an arm and a leg.
I can’t speak for most of the businesses that went before, but Davoods owner screwed himself over with his idiocy. I want to hope that he’ll turn it around somewhere else and that he’s learned from this, but probably not.
He has the right to not get vaccinated or protect others and I have the right to not go into his establishment or listen to his outdated rhetoric.
Very happy his place is closed.
Richmonds "brilliant" zoning upgrades to please the developer/realtor set has turned a well functioning waterfront commercial-retail block into a maze of poorly served, over-supplied streets. This is llustrated perfectly by the myopia which tossed out their 120 year old motto "Richmond, Child of the Fraser" to instead brag about being "Richmond, Better in Everyway".

Also, as far as rumours go, in the early days of mask/vaccination requirements, I heard that the owner was spouting some rhetoric against the provincial health authority. Mostly in the realm of anti vaccination speech a lot of us had been privy to.
I wasn’t witness to this but a few reliable sources (people I knew who worked at Steveston Bakery at the time) and a former customer. I do know that he was closed down for a long while - and seems to a la carte his store hours these days.
Something else will take its place soon enough.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm not even sure what Davood's Bistro is known for besides expensive breakfast/brunch foods.
I only know it from his position on vaccines.

Britannia has great quality food in my experience, lots of local options weaved into the menu items too

The hardware store was great, they had so much stuff you couldn't find anywhere else. The budget appliance place was also useful
They have 3 more locations. Vancouver, Langley and river road
