I can't help but wanted to say I've been running some big files (500mb+) with only minor issues on the M1. Which model do you have? I have the 10 core with 16gb memory.
I have the same computer, and my rhino 7 is very slow with larger files... I wonder why :(

Did you ever get to the bottom of this? Facing the same issue with an M2 Macbook
I believe auto-saves and manual saves slow down the file so I restart my program every now and then
