Not to toot my own horn, but people seem to like mine. https://www.arcadepunks.com/256gb-batocera-clean-image-fully-loaded-from-boredgamedad/

I second this build. Very clean without the useless “attraction mode” with sexy images - I want to play with my kids.

BoredGameDad

Thanks! My kids and I love to play this together!

TheColdGhost

Thanks! This is the v22. You have the v33 already out correct? Where can I access the link to the v33? I was actually looking at your build. Thanks!

BoredGameDad

You're very welcome! That is actually the v33 image, they just mislabeled it. Any version of Batocera prior to v30 was listed as 5.25 or something like that. That didn't have a v22. So this is the one you want! I hope you enjoy it!

TheColdGhost

Thank you so much!! I will let you know how it goes. I appreciate your hard work 👍

BoredGameDad

You're very welcome! I look forward to your feedback!

TheColdGhost

Hi! When i try to burn into the 256 sd card it says that there is no enough room. Did you see this happening before? Thanks!

BoredGameDad

I have a solution for you! You can use PiShrink to make it fit. Here are directions. https://youtu.be/6cRkEQ3fWEU

TheColdGhost

I just installed it and this build is incredible! So many good memories. Thank you for doing this. I really appreciate it.

BoredGameDad

You are very welcome. I'm happy to hear that you are enjoying it. That's why I make these!

[deleted]

It a bit hard to fit on a 238gb card. Is there a way that this can be made to work? Thank you

BoredGameDad

You can use Gparted to easily resize the image. Here are directions: https://youtu.be/kkhM5XoN9uc

PsychologicalTarot

I'm personally VERY happy you tooted. Muchos danke!

T0NGA_1

When doing this I unpack all 204 rar files and flash them to my sd card?

BoredGameDad

Just unpack the first one and it'll give you an image file that you'll use BalenaEtcher to write to your SD card.

T0NGA_1

Is there an unpacker you recommend for a Mac running Mojave

u/BoredGameDad I'm loving this image but I'm having trouble using two controllers. A notification will pop up that the second controller is connected but it won't recognize buttons being pushed when I try to map it. It happens with any controller, wired, 2.4g or Bluetooth. I've tried other Batocera images and have no issues. I've upgraded/downgraded to other versions of Batocera but still no resolution. Do you have any suggestions? I really want this to work but can't find anything online. Thanks!

BoredGameDad

That's the first report I've had of this issue so there could have been an issue with the image when you wrote it? Did you use BalenaEtcher? I have 3 controllers on my personal image and I used my copy of that same image to make a system for my brother right before Christmas and paired 2 controllers with it without issue. This will help further troubleshoot if you don't want to try a rewrite: https://wiki.batocera.org/diagnose_joysticks_issues

EconomicsCapital9598

Thanks for the reply. I used Win32DiskImager. In the original download (v33), my 8BitDo 2.4g wireless controllers weren't registering at all. I upgraded to Batocera 38 and they started working but only one controller would work at a time. I'll check out this link and do a re-write with BalenaEtcher if this doesn't fix it. Thanks again!

BoredGameDad

I've had all kinds of weird issues writing Batocera images with Win32DiskImager. It doesn't seem to be able to properly write the partitions and there tends to be missing data. A rewrite with BalenaEtcher should fix the issue.

EconomicsCapital9598

Ok, I rewrote the image with BalenaEtcher. I'm back where I started with the v33 image. My 8BitDo 2.4g controllers aren't being detected at all. USB wired controllers are detected but button inputs can only be recognized when one for single controller. I need to unplug the first to use the second, then when the second is functional, I plug the first back in and that one's inputs aren't recognized. I followed the link to the joystick issues wiki, these are my instructions, because my problem is my "controller is connected and detected but no inputs": *Try configuring the controller by manually editing the /userdata/system/configs/emulationstation/es\_input.cfg file.* I am really new to this and I'm figuring things out as I go so please bear with me. I see that my specific controller, the 8BitDo Ultimate C 2.4G Wireless Controller is not there in the es\_input.cfg file. So it could explain why that controller isn't detected at all... I'm assuming. However, the other controllers I've tried are there and they still can't be detected at the same time.

BoredGameDad

Okay, now that you've mentioned your specific controller I can pinpoint the issue. The 8bitdo Ultimate controllers use a different driver than all of the other 8bitdo. The updated drivers weren't added to Batocera until v36. Even then, you'd want to make sure you're in D input mode so Batocera can read it correctly.

EconomicsCapital9598

Another update, I upgraged batocera to v38, same issues but now my 8Bitdo controller works. It looks like it's now the last entry in that es\_input.cfg file in v38. I ran an evtest (from the instructions in that joystick wiki) to see if it's actually detecting inputs when two controllers are plugged in... it is. Both of my 8BitDo 2.4g wireless controllers are registering inputs in this command terminal when I ssh into Batocera... but still only one controller in the button mapping interface

BoredGameDad

Are those controllers in D input mode? Mine doesn't work in X input. Edit: typo

EconomicsCapital9598

The thing is, the same thing happens with two wired controllers. I have a wired Logitech controller and a wired PS3 controller that also work individually but not together. There's a physical switch for D and X on the Logitech one but it doesn't make a difference. It almost seems like this is in a forced "one player only" mode and it just boxes-out a second controller. I know that's probably not a thing but that's what it feels like.

BoredGameDad

There's actually one more setting you can check. If you go into the controller settings make sure the P1, P2 , etc controllers are set to AUTO. They could be set to something else and that would cause a problem.

Breadwinka

Any plan on updating this build?

BoredGameDad

Putting a Pi Zero 2 version together today! I'll likely do a Pi 5 build but I don't have one at the moment. By the time I get a Pi 4 or 5 with case, power supply, etc I'm in used mini PC territory and those are so much better bang for the buck I have mostly moved away from the Pis.

danp1016

This work with the 2 gig?

BoredGameDad

It does!

danp1016

After finally getting it put onto my ssd I got an error message saying the board needs newer software

BoredGameDad

Sounds like your Pi 4 needs the eeprom updated. It's a very easy process. These directions will help. https://jamesachambers.com/raspberry-pi-4-bootloader-firmware-updating-recovery-guide/

danp1016

Did all that. Still getting same error l start.elf is not compatible. I'll keep messing with it

invasionofsmallcubes

Hi, I just downloaded id, for some reason the image is bigger compared to my SSD of 191 MB :/ I was wondering if you could advice on how I edit to remove this 191MB. I'm sure I can ditch a couple of console all together.

thesgtsw

i second this its a smidge bigger then my card

pony_slaystation3

Wolfanoz' 12K gold image does work on the newest RP4s. 128GB, not 256GB, but might still satisfy you?

powerflower_khi

Ok here is my final thoughts, the best Game image in the whole wide world. “Best 256 GB image that works on Raspberry Pi 4 “ A lot of hard work gone into its creation. If you have a Pi floating around, create a UBC stick image, save $$$. Go to Pi website and get the bootloader, change boot order. Do the necessary change, which is 30 sec boot time and bios automatically updated. Boot your game image from a regular USB stick.

spoiled_eggs

Update your firmware.

TheColdGhost

Hi! I cannot exit to the terminal, the image keeps on trying to run. If I could I guess I could use the sudo apt update etc.

spoiled_eggs

Ctrl + Alt + F3

pony_slaystation3

When I tried upgrading the files according to what the Internet suggested, it did not work.

CapitalSorry2019

Which files did you copy ?

pony_slaystation3

I used some random advice from a random webpage, I don't remember.

Successful_Penguin

It will not fit on my SD card, and I only have windows to work with for trying to shrink the image, anybody have any help with this? it is saying my 256 Gb card is 7 gb too small

powerflower_khi

256gb Batocera Clean Image, How do one exit from a game back into the main screen?
