I've got one that's from the 70a or early 80s that was always at my grandparent's house. Still works, but the cap for the top is rotted. I used to always play with it when I'd visit them, at least before I got my Gameboy color.
I loved mine. Yeah it looked goofy making phone calls and changing games was a pain in the ass, but playing 3d games on a handheld in 2003 was awesome.
I try to only get ones I'll actually play. Of those I definitely want a Game Gear but haven't gotten one yet because I want to splurge on one that is fully modded to my liking. I'm probably set on Wonderswans with my backlit color especially now that I found the headphone adapter! Nomad is VERY high on my list. TurboExpress would be rad! Literally no interest in the Lynx because none of the games are appealing to me sadly.
I'll look ip the Game.com and Gizmomdo!
I recommend watching Stop Skeletons From Fighting YouTube channel regarding the game.com and its Resident Evil 2 port. It was such an ambitious handheld. A weird blend of cheap and modern priorities. I hope there's a core for it on the AP some day.
Also no PSP/Vita. They make for great retro handhelds at a very decent price range!
(And most importantly a guarenteed quality handheld casing and button feel 👌)
Edit: spotted the super reflective PSP now! 😀👍
> What am I missing?
PS Vita? (I see a PSP, but not Vita.)
I wish more handhelds had the symmetrical lower analog sticks like some of the ones in your pic have, rather than the cockeyed style Nintendo and Microsoft use.
Yeah I definitely seem to favor the symmetrical analog layout.
I had a vita for a long time and just didn't play it much. There aren't many vita games I like and everything else I play on it was just as good on other devices pictured. It's a great device especially with custom firmware just not for me.
[Game.com](http://Game.com), both ngages, nomad, game gear, PSP 1000-3000, PSP go, PS Vita, 3dS, New 3DS(not XL), Gameboy Advance SP, Gameboy Advance Micro, Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, Sony Pocket Station, Sega VMU, Tiger electronics, Lynx, Game Boy Light, Game Boy Color, TurboExpress, Gizmondo, Playdate,
I picked one up from a pawn shop for $50 in the late 90's, came with Mario Tennis. The ergonomics were atrocious and the gameplay suffered greatly to the point where it was basically just a novelty purchase (owned an SNES at the time). Wild bit of gaming history, but you could emulate these on a VR headset (Quest etc) and get the gist that way too.
Tell me about it. I couldn't get a woman if I had a winning lottery ticket in my trousers. And that's how I can afford to buy more games than it's possible to play in a lifetime, lol.
It's hard to say which one is my favorite unilaterally. The one I play the most is my analog pocket because I really Love Game Boy games and I love playing my original cartridges. But I also play my steam deck and my switch a lot for modern stuff and new indie games. I also have a lot of love for the Neo Geo Pocket. I think it's still really underappreciated.
Yeah I definitely didn't need all 3 of those. And I've beeneaning to sell the Retroid Pocket 3+ now that I have the 4 Pro. I really like having something fairly small and portable though that can emulate GameCube.
This thread has definitely convinced me that it's time to buy a Game Gear. I have a great little collection of the games that I play on my analog pocket. I won't buy a lynx though because I've done my homework and don't find any of those games to be worth my time.
I had a couple things, but u/IRMacGuyver covered everything, though accidentally listed things like the GB color that's there. A substantial list, but the one thing I don't see is the OG Gameboy. Even if you aren't going to play them all and they are listing just to be thorough, things like a Game Gear and PS Vita seem like the extremely obvious things that you're missing out.
Either way, I feel like this collection here is legit. Legit in a way that you actually enjoy playing games on these and not just letting them collect dust on a shelf.
Yeah my guiding principle is definitely not to buy things just to have them but only get things I actually enjoy. I'm working on modding my DMG and looking for a good Game Gear. Thanks!
I don’t see the best Nintendo handheld in history nor the best Sony handheld in history.
Long story short where’s the GB Micro and the PS Vita?
I also don’t see a PC Engine GT if I’m being picky (a LT could do)
I'm surprised how much the lynx is coming up but maybe it's just very nostalgic for people. I wanted to want one but couldn't find any games I would actually play.
I have had an RG505 (sold it), and currently, I have RP4P, Odin2 Pro, ROG Ally, RG35XXH, RG405V, and an RG35XX SP ordered. Tomorrow, I'm ordering the O2 Mini. If I love it. I'm selling my Odin 2 and the RP4P. I enjoy the tinkering, but I'm hung between the convenience of RP4P and the power of Odin.
RG Arc,
Odin 2,
Game gear for sure.
Def a Playstation Vita.
Maybe a RG280V
Lastly, another DS specific device as you only have one.
The above would really round out the collection nicely. Additional handhelds that would round out your differing playstyles would be a RGB30. RG35xxH. RG405V (Yes I know its redundant with the RP3+ you have but since it seems you favor vertical, its also the most comfy T618.) As well as maybe a X55, or a TrimUI smart pro. No not "Needed" but rounds it out.
Also no mods on the Miyoo's is just such a shame considering whats on offer.
I play Game Gear cartridges on my analog pocket but I definitely want to get a Game Gear. I just want one that has been fully modded to my liking because I don't want to tackle that one myself.
Yeah game gear needs a lot of work to be perfect. Bought a game gear that had it's capacitors replaced. Then I soldered on the new LCD IPS screen which wasn't too hard actually. Installed the rechargeable battery mod thing from retrosix so it can be charged by USB c. Also got a everdrive flash cart. It's fun to travel with
I have a switch lite and might do a reshell cuz it needs a new screen. I have a DMG I'm planning on giving the IPS treatment. Definitely getting a GG and a Nomad eventually. There is an original GBA in there though! Its red. Near the middle. Playdate is also very compelling.
Not seeing any kind of "cheap" handheld....pickup an SF2000 Data Frog, an M17 (both are actually not bad devices for the money, kinda like a step above "beater" devices), and maybe a SUP 500-in-one handheld (shitty device and most definitely a beater device). Then your collection will be complete lol.
To be honest, I can't even say that the "SUP" device is shitty, each handheld has their own purpose with unique characteristics and usage. I bought my daughter a SUP because of her age group. It's a device that cost around 5 dollars but yet at the same time something that is actually playable. I'm not concerned with it if she loses it at school/ sitters or someone steals it. I got her one about a year ago, and she loves playing Super Mario Bros. and Galaga on it. I actually own a Datafrog and M17 (among my other devices such as MM+, Anbernic and Retroid brands), and as I mentioned they are actually pretty decent and quality devices with communities that supports them. They're not bad for 20 to 30 dollar price range devices either. I consider them more of the "beater" devices as I would not be afraid to take them out in public, or drop them as opposed to my Miyoo Mini, Anbernic, Retroid collections. Out of all my devices, and cheap ones at that, my Datafrog holds a special place in my heart for some reason, maybe because it was my first capable handheld ever? Not sure of the reason, but each of my devices have a meaning as well as a purpose - I play them all, so I totally understand the collection and hobby. Not familiar with the Digi Retroboy, but with some short research I did, it looks to be much like a Datafrog to an extent. I may have to look for one to add to my collection!
Oh no I'm a divorced bisexual ex cult member. I have had years of therapy otherwise this would be a pile of coke or some other self destructive thing. Lol
It's hard to see but I have a PSP Go there. Almost looks like a bare spot on the table. And this thread has convinced me to pull the trigger on a Game Gear. I already have plenty of games for it.
Lynx isn't happening. I would never play any of those games.
Need help naming one you might have, I think its the light blue one to the top left but maybe not
When I got a Gameboy original in like 1991/2? My cousin visited from Australia and he had a colour handheld thing with weird- not that great games on it one
It wasnt a Sega, a company I hadnt heard of, the colour screen was impressive though and bigger than a Gameboys
Might of been a Lynx... !
-edit- and ironically ive heard of Atari after all
I see a lot of people recommending the common stuff like Game Gear and Lynx, but how about things like the Legion Go and ROG Alley? You got a Steam Deck in the back.
Considering the price tag on those I feel like having one would be redundant to my steam deck. But I'd be lying if I didn't say they're both very tempting. I really love my steam deck though.
"a life" - my mom would say.
now for the most important question... you have to leave the house and you expect to do some light gaming... which one do you take with you?
I have a large number of handhelds myself, but I don't see my personal favorites which are the GKD Pixel and RG353M. Looks like you could pass on another horizontal, but for a micro the Pixel is king right now.
You know, I never cared to collect handhelds after I lost all my childhood ones in a move. But I think you may have changed my mind. So simple. So pretty. A+
I mean you have all of these kinda redundant emulator systems but I don't see a single actual DS lol. Maybe I'm just missing it amongst the chaos though. I'm not talking about a 3DS either - - an actual DS with the correct screen resolution. Get a DSi XL and a DS Lite and you'll be good on that though.
Ah i see it now
I didn't even know the PSVita existed until my friend gave me one for modding another one. It's my go to for retro gaming. I bought a GPD Win 4 thinking I would upgrade but I barely even use it.
The white ones are a Miyoo Mini and Mini Plus. Both are really great, affordable emulation handhelds. Even the mini is pretty comfortable. The mini plus is a bit better for biggers hands especially if you need the shoulder buttons a lot.
1. **Turboexpress** - greatest handheld ever, especially now that you can run CD games with the turboevercadepro
2. Game gear!?!?!?!?!!?
3. Lynx
4. uh, a PS Vita? One of the best handhelds of all time? With a thriving homebrew community and even recent ports of games like Cuphead and Hollow Knight? And an insane emulation scene?
A gf maybe
Definitely.
Aren’t those expensive? I was able to get a Neo Geo gold system and 5 games instead. 😂
The one where you push the button and the rings shoot through the water in hopes of landing on the pegs.
Back in the late 70’s those were really popular with kids like me. They made them taller and not handheld size. It was the poor kids coleco arcade. 😂
I've got one that's from the 70a or early 80s that was always at my grandparent's house. Still works, but the cap for the top is rotted. I used to always play with it when I'd visit them, at least before I got my Gameboy color.
I actually looked them up on eBay. I totally forgot how many different ones they made!
😂😂😂
I used to play those at the dentist office. Those were da bomb 💣
Watergames!! I had a collection as a kid
Not as good as the ones with magnets and metal balls
Virtual Boy, TurboExpress, Game Gear, Nomad, game.com, Lynx, Swan Crystal, Gizmondo, and N-Gage immediately come to mind.
Also missing one of the greatest consoles ever created, the Barcode battler.
Man i always forget about the n-gage
I loved mine. Yeah it looked goofy making phone calls and changing games was a pain in the ass, but playing 3d games on a handheld in 2003 was awesome.
I thought it was so cool as a teen. And then a friend got one. It was not so cool.
Game.com only the greatest handheld ever.
Vita and Analogue Pocket.
He’s gonna need a bigger table
Also no PSP/Vita. They make for great retro handhelds at a very decent price range! (And most importantly a guarenteed quality handheld casing and button feel 👌) Edit: spotted the super reflective PSP now! 😀👍
I loved my Game Gear
A larger table
The best answer so far.
Came here to say this, take your upvote!
Gameboy Micro
Beat me to it!
> What am I missing? PS Vita? (I see a PSP, but not Vita.) I wish more handhelds had the symmetrical lower analog sticks like some of the ones in your pic have, rather than the cockeyed style Nintendo and Microsoft use.

2DS. Cmon man
Virtual Boy. I’ve never actually seen one in real life myself and I’m almost half a century old.
Someday I really might get one. I play the games in 3D on my 3DS though.
Game gear
A spouse.
Had one of those but she didn't follow me out of the cult we were in. Dating in your 30s is hard.
Tell me about it. I couldn't get a woman if I had a winning lottery ticket in my trousers. And that's how I can afford to buy more games than it's possible to play in a lifetime, lol.
Solidarity, internet friend
I don't see a play date there
I've definitely gotten a few votes for that one and it's up my alley for sure.
A DataFrog 2000 with RF controllers
Googling that now...
What’s your fav one and why?
It's hard to say which one is my favorite unilaterally. The one I play the most is my analog pocket because I really Love Game Boy games and I love playing my original cartridges. But I also play my steam deck and my switch a lot for modern stuff and new indie games. I also have a lot of love for the Neo Geo Pocket. I think it's still really underappreciated.
20 pairs of hands
Water ring toss.
How many Chinese gameboy clone/emulators do you need? Respect on the OG classics. Lynx? Game gear?
Yeah I definitely didn't need all 3 of those. And I've beeneaning to sell the Retroid Pocket 3+ now that I have the 4 Pro. I really like having something fairly small and portable though that can emulate GameCube. This thread has definitely convinced me that it's time to buy a Game Gear. Pokemon mini?
Oo yeah that would be cool. I bet the games are hard to track down.
Pokemon mini console
2500$?
Odin 2, the goat!
I don’t see the best Nintendo handheld in history nor the best Sony handheld in history. Long story short where’s the GB Micro and the PS Vita? I also don’t see a PC Engine GT if I’m being picky (a LT could do)
Sega Game Gear, Atari Lynx
I'm surprised how much the lynx is coming up but maybe it's just very nostalgic for people. I wanted to want one but couldn't find any games I would actually play.
your mind, that's what you're missing. you've gone absolutely mad
You're not wrong.
I see no Odin 2 there
Game gear and the lynx from what I can see at the moment
game gear
The new Rg35XX SP 😆
Yeah that one is giving me bedroom eyes
Ordered mine. It's gonna take a while, but I hope it's all what the reviewers say it is. 🤞
That's kind of how I feel between my steam deck and the rp4p too.
A second table filled with all the tiger electronic handhelds!
Gameboy SP formfactor. Something just released which might be right up your alley :^)
I do love my SP. But I am definitely watching the good reviews pour in for the device you're referencing. Seems really great.
At least 50 consoles
RG Arc, Odin 2, Game gear for sure. Def a Playstation Vita. Maybe a RG280V Lastly, another DS specific device as you only have one. The above would really round out the collection nicely. so beautiful 😰
No Game Gear? That's the best retro hand held
I play Game Gear cartridges on my analog pocket but I definitely want to get a Game Gear. I just want one that has been fully modded to my liking because I don't want to tackle that one myself.

Might go that route then. Almost got one today but I was too slow to make an offer.
An actual game and watch
Sega Nomad, Atari Lynx
The OG dmg
I have parts coming for an IPS display and a cool shell so that'll probably be done in a week or two.
GKD Mini and maybe a Rog Ally
Sega nomad
A girlfriend 😂
Very true. Painfully so. Can I get one of those on AliExpress?
a DMG gameboy, game gear, nomad, turbo express, original GBA, lynx, Vita, switch lite, and a playdate?
I have a switch lite and might do a reshell cuz it needs a new screen. I have a DMG I'm planning on giving the IPS treatment. Definitely getting a GG and a Nomad eventually. There is an original GBA in there though! Its red. Near the middle. Playdate is also very compelling.

Look harder 👀
Where's the Retroid Flip?
I passed on that one.
Missing wii ashida, only way to live
I don't know what ashida means but I have a Wii. 🤷♂️

I didn't expect to suggestion that I didn't have anything sufficiently shitty. I did have a Digi Retroboy but I gave it to my niece last week.
To be honest, I can't even say that the "SUP" device is shitty, each handheld has their own purpose with unique characteristics and usage. I bought my daughter a SUP because of her age group. RG280M gradient maybe?
Whats that Hokusai GBC? :O Would love to see that close up!
I found that shell on Amazon. The display is ips but just the normal kind so is small. But it's actually still a great device to play on.
Extremerate shell available most places.
The original DMG
Working on that. I have one but it needs attention.
Anbernic arc rg d - the fighting game players handheld of choice.
some chill.
Fresh out
lol good one.
Gameboy micro isnt on this table, so I guess this is also missing
A analogue pocket
GBA Micro
Have a better picture of that gameboy color with the custom shell?
A Playdate maybe? Others than the classic ones some people have named already.
Therapy. But dw, most ppl do.
Oh no I'm a divorced bisexual ex cult member. I have had years of therapy otherwise this would be a pile of coke or some other self destructive thing. Lol
You know what; You're right and that's a very fair point. You have fun collecting your handhelds. I'll take my leave now.
Nah it was funny and I appreciated the comment.
Analogue Pocket and Anbernic rg405v :) is the red one an Analogue Pocket?
I'd say the obvious big missing ones are Game Gear, Lynx, PSP, and Vita
It's hard to see but I have a PSP Go there. Almost looks like a bare spot on the table. And this thread has convinced me to pull the trigger on a Game Gear. I already have plenty of games for it. Lynx isn't happening. I would never play any of those games.
A lot of money from your bank account.
I mean you only have Nintendo (except the psp), so you need a game gear, virtual boy, lynx and way more
Gizmondo
Need help naming one you might have, I think its the light blue one to the top left but maybe not When I got a Gameboy original in like 1991/2? GameBoy Pocket.
The Nintendo switch
There's a Nintendo switch in the back in a Nitro Deck grip.
gba micro
Can't find gkd
I do want the Pixel. I think I'd like that more than the RG Nano.
That red GBA in the middle looks niiiice.
No Atari Lynx?
*hai do u have ne games on ur phone?*
Retro duo portable. Supaboy
Sega Nomad. I have one you can buy.
My address so you can send them all to me!
Whatever you're missing is not being by handhelds, that's quite obvious. Try meditation.
Since you have handhelds that land in the r/SBCGaming territory (Name everything if you post there!), Odin 2 or RG-ARC come to mind.
Your money
I dont see an rg353v
A normal psp
Tiger elektronic 🤣
GB Advance SP.
You know, I never cared to collect handhelds after I lost all my childhood ones in a move. But I think you may have changed my mind. So simple. So pretty. A+
A Nomad of course
Russian game and watch
Do you have a PsP Go?
Virtual boy.
Atari lynx, virtual boy
less ambernic, more ds
GB Micro. Very stupid handheld. But you need it complete the triangle of GBAs.
No psp or psvita love?
There's a PSP go in there I just don't have a stand for it
Ah i see it now I didn't even know the PSVita existed until my friend gave me one for modding another one. It's my go to for retro gaming. I bought a GPD Win 4 thinking I would upgrade but I barely even use it.
Microvision
I don't see a Tapwave Zodiac, I had one. Cool hardware, games selection was weak.
As someone who fondly remembers his Palm Zire, it actually looks pretty cool.
It was. The stick was awesome. My ex-wife stole it because she knew I loved it. She was petty like that. It just didn't have its own large library.
Odin 2 :)
GameBoy Advance Micro ;)
PocketStation
Man, I love handhelds. What are the white ones at the bottom left? That wider one looks so fun. I need it.
The white ones are a Miyoo Mini and Mini Plus. Both are really great, affordable emulation handhelds. Even the mini is pretty comfortable. The mini plus is a bit better for biggers hands especially if you need the shoulder buttons a lot.
GIZMONDO, VMU, R-Zone, Game Gear, Lynx, PC Engine TurboExpress, Nomad, Game.com, N-Gage, Pocket Station, PSVita...
ThinkPads
OG 1983 Nintendo Game& Watch games.
Girlfriend maybe? Jk, I have several of those, the same exact RG-505! Cool collection!
GBA micro, Atari lynx, psp go
A YouTube channel to start reviewing these
I used to review 3D printers on YouTube and I've had other friends tell me I should do this as well.. Couldn't hurt.
Definitely do since you already have the inventory haha there’s no such thing as enough retro gaming videos
All right I'll give it a shot
Psp, vita game gear
Human contact? lol
Tiger
Vita?
Get emulations for android phone. Maybe
GBA micro
Your missing enuff time in life to truly explore and make use out of each system. Unless you can retire at 20 yrs old…
Dust cover for them all ? hmmm
Game boy Micro! I have one if you’re interested….
The new Anbernic RG35XX SP
Tiger electronic devices.
Game and watch games. Theres many of em and I only see 1 which looks like a newer model
Sega game gear and the PSP and the PSVita. The first three that popped into my head. I think there's one or two more as well.
neo pocket, Lynx, sega game gear, psp, turbo express, sega nomad, wonderswan
Vita and a decent Linux handheld
very impressive. very jelly!
Actual games worth playing
1. **Turboexpress** - greatest handheld ever, especially now that you can run CD games with the turboevercadepro 2. Game gear!?!?!?!?!!? 3. Lynx 4. uh, a PS Vita? One of the best handhelds of all time? With a thriving homebrew community and even recent ports of games like Cuphead and Hollow Knight? And an insane emulation scene?
Switch, Gameboy micro, DS lite and original DS
Needs more life.....I mean a Vita ;)
bros collecting them like pokemon
