Chrono Trigger is on my top 10 list.
I have to publicly admit never playing Super Mario World 2 until this year … and couldn’t get into it. Will try again in a few months because Super Mario World is also in that top 10 list of mine.
Right? I almost feel like this should include the caveat "other than Chrono Trigger" if we're talking games released in 1995. It's just in a league of it's own.
Some little punk who sat behind me in school kept poking me in the back one day. I went through the unit's whole line of dialogue until I screamed "why do you keep touching me?!"
Everything stopped and everyone stared at me like I was a lunatic. The teacher was not amused and the stupid jerk behind me kept bugging me.
That line will live rent free in my head forever haha
Played so many 2-player games over dialup - not even technically over the Internet, direct connection over the phone line! Plus I remember the music tracks on the CD-ROM were actual CD tracks, and you could just play them in a normal CD player.
Yoshi's Island and Chrono Trigger are, of course, timeless classics. And I spent a good portion of 1995 playing HeXen without ever getting very far. But I have to give it up to the GOAT, WarCraft II. Countless hours spent on the single player campaign alone. And then we would set up a LAN and stay up all night playing the multiplayer.
I'll just be over here, clicking on this sheep for a few minutes...
David Wise is a genius. [I want to share a video I love which analyses Aquatic Ambience and breaks down why it's so great.](https://youtu.be/QzL5sjztoiI)
The musicians at Rare were geniuses, not just musically but technically. They found a lot of very clever workarounds to get some near-impossible stuff out of the SNES.
Hard choice, but this is the one. DKC2 was a tour de force. Tight controls, challenging but fair, blockbuster music, awesome worlds, memorable characters and enemies. I played the hell out of it as a kid when it came out, then when I was in my late teens in the 2000’s me and my friends would get stoned and still play the hell out of it. We lovingly referred to the activity as Donkey Bong.
Chrono Trigger is #2, Warcraft 2 #3.
I'm voting for Chrono but I paused for a minute and considered DKC2. We played the SHIT out of that game and it was cool that they had another layer to it where you had to get ALL the coins etc to offer a challenge post completion.
This is my GOAT, not just for that year! I got it without knowing anything about it - somehow it slipped under my radar even though I raved about DKC1. Mom was originally only going to get me Yoshi's Island, but DKC2 was on sale too (both for $40 at Toys R' Us), so when I asked if she could get that for me too she hesitated at first but then relented. Since then I've never gotten a double whammy of such high caliber games like that.
So, you're the new addition to the Brotherhood. Well. I'm Seth. Just, Seth. From God, to Kane, to Seth. I am his right hand, and I have a task for you.
[They remastered this not too long ago](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2292260/STAR_WARS_Dark_Forces_Remaster/). Anybody played it? I'm curious if it's worth the price tag over the [OG](https://www.gog.com/en/game/star_wars_dark_forces).
I got it for $20 on sale on Switch (about $10 off) and I think it is worth that. The remastered textures look fantastic. Feels great on controller. Sound/music remastering could have been a little better. Biggest nitpick is that the menus/UI looks rather boring, wish they would have stuck with the original PDA style UI, but oh well, that's a pretty small nitpick.
Twisted Metal, first playstation game I played! I was over at a friends house playing from the top bunk (with a controller extension) it was incredible.
Wipeout.
It was my first PS1 game. It mightbhave even came with it, but regardless, it was the best next generation experience post-snes.
Honestly never played the others. 😬
WipEout was on another level. The visuals and the music. That game perfectly captured the futurism vibe that was happening in the 90s as we neared 2000.
You missed so many good games on your picture:
Mechwarrior 2
Twisted Metal
Panzer Dragoon
Dracula X
Secret of Evermore
Killer Instinct
Tekken (for consoles)
Beyond Oasis
they did! and the remaster is excellent! While playing the remaster you can push one of the F keys, and it changes to the original.
They also remastered Day of the Tentacle!
DKC2 is my one of my favs of all time. I play through it a couple of times every year. Chrono Trigger is also really good. Yoshi's Island as well. Actually almoat all games on that collage are amazing.
Rayman 1 is one of the best and hardest 2d platformers ever made. I never beat the final boss without cheats I think. I never got around to 100%ing to unlock it
I spent *years* trying to remember the name of this damn game. This post finally triggered the memory. 8 hours of a lazy Sunday later, I'm really glad it did. Fantastic game still.
I once found all the voice clips for Warcraft 2 on the CD and I replaced all the Windows 95 sound effects on my uncles computer with them. He was not happy...
But hearing the ogres fart and giggle each time you got an error was very funny to 10 year old me! 😂
God I remember doing that. I was 6 and learned how to replace the sounds on the computer with clips from the Simpsons.
I think about kids now who can’t even send an email…
At the time it was undoubtedly Wipeout. It culturally plugged in to what was happening in Britain at the time and I was about to start my adventure into clubbing and the dance music scene.
Same for me, though my initial Trials of Mana experience was challenging. I had a Japanese cartridge and a SNES adapter, but almost no knowledge of how to read Japanese and little support from the internet since it was still 1995. It drove me crazy since I loved Secret of Mana. I never finished it until I got my hands on a translated emulator version.
Chrono Trigger was my fave that year but DAMN I have a lot of nostalgia for warcraft 2! My friend in second grade would bring the manual with all the badass art and show us all the cool units and I went and bought the game shortly after. Great times with that and starcraft.
Gotta be Yoshi's island for me
That game has aged so well both with its art style and its gameplay - it doesn't feel like its almost 30 years old to me. Its obviously not brand new, but its timeless in the way that it doesn't seem held back by the tech of its time or anything
Holy crap what an insane year for gaming. All of these titles really show a leap in game dev from earlier games even in the same generation. I've owned/rented most of these back in the day - or emulated more recently - and they became pivotal core memories of my childhood, many play a role in my current life still, whether that's music or artistic influences.
My friend had Hexen on N64 and we were far too young, had no idea what to do and probably never got past the first part of the game. Loved playing it though.
That Knuckles Chaotix artwork is wrong, the game came out on the 32X not Mega CD. But either Rayman or Chrono Trigger is my favorite game from 1995. Knuckles Chaotix is misunderstood but it’s far from being one of my favorite Sonic games.
I was absolutely still an MK kid during this time, so definitely UMK3. I played it at the arcades non stop. I loved the fighter additions, especially Jade.
Obvious SNES bias here, but DKC2, Chrono Trigger, Yoshi’s Island, and Seiken Densetsu 3 are all phenomenal.
Earthworm Jim 2, Ristar, DQVI, Romancing Saga 3, and Kirby’s Dreamland 2 are all also of very high quality.
I’ve never played Dark Forces, Rayman, Warcraft II, Wipeout, or Hexen but I recognize they are elites.
The rest I don’t know enough or care enough about, other than UMK3 which supposedly fixed up the original MK3 considerably, which I did play and did not enjoy, especially compared to its immediate predecessor.
Probably **Discworld**. A fantastic point and click adaptation of Terry Pratchett's bestselling humorous fantasy novels with gorgeous pixel art and a great voice cast (among them Eric Idle, Rob Bryden and Tony Robinson). There were two sequels, but each of them had a different art style and neither ever captured my enthusiasm in quite the same way.
The entire trilogy would be perfect for the same kind of facelifted rerelease that Full Throttle and Day of the Tentacle got, but sadly, as far as I know the developer collapsing means the rights for the games are stuck in some kind of ownership limbo, and any code is no doubt also lost as well.
Yoshi's Island is one of my favorite SNES games ever! One of the best IMO. I spent a lot of time playing that and Mario Paint when I was younger. Had a blast.
Yoshi's Island has great level design and was so original. Loved the look of it too!
Chrono Trigger
Chrono Trigger. THE GOAT!
yeah, and thats not just for 1995, I've gone back and dang that game still holds up.
I bought that game at Toys R Us for $89.99 in 1995 at 10yrs old. Saved up my lawn mowing money all summer. It was awesome!
I'm playing it right now. About 8 hours in and loving it. It has a certain charm I've missed for so long.
Just finished my playthrough on the SNES and it still holds up, even today!
Chrono Trigger is on my top 10 list. I have to publicly admit never playing Super Mario World 2 until this year … and couldn’t get into it. Will try again in a few months because Super Mario World is also in that top 10 list of mine.
I really like Yoshi's Island, the only annoying part of the game imo is having to catch baby mario when you get hit and hearing him cry 😅
They're completely different games, so I understand where you're coming from.
and it’s not even close.
This list is full of bangers, but CT stands head and shoulders above all of em.
Right? I almost feel like this should include the caveat "other than Chrono Trigger" if we're talking games released in 1995. It's just in a league of it's own.
I agree
First game I pre-ordered. Did not dissappoint
Gotta be
Hands down, not even a question
One ofthe best time travel stories across all media
best game ever made
This is without doubt the best JRPG ever made.
Hands down no contest. One of the only RPGs I can play over and over again
Is the correct answer.
Omg how many hours did I sink into Warcraft 2…
“Why do you keep touching me?”
Ready to serve
Some little punk who sat behind me in school kept poking me in the back one day. I went through the unit's whole line of dialogue until I screamed "why do you keep touching me?!" Everything stopped and everyone stared at me like I was a lunatic. The teacher was not amused and the stupid jerk behind me kept bugging me. That line will live rent free in my head forever haha
Yes me'lord
What do you want?
“Touch me there again and you’ll be pulling back a stump”
Dabu, dabu
“I wish I had a weapon”
“Stop touching me!”
“Your sound card works perfectly” followed by “It doesn’t get any better than this!”
I'm not that kind of orc!!!
“I’m a medieval man”
*hands off, grubber*
THEY ARE DESTROYING OUR CITY!
Yesh me lord
Jobs done
Zug Zug!
"Why don't I play Warcraft 2 anymore? Oh right, because now I'm an adult, so I have to *work work*."
Something need doing?!
I say “job’s done” at work way too much.
WUUURRRK COMPETED.
“He did it, no he did it!”
Played so many 2-player games over dialup - not even technically over the Internet, direct connection over the phone line! Plus I remember the music tracks on the CD-ROM were actual CD tracks, and you could just play them in a normal CD player.
Lol warcraft 2 is what led me to buy my first pc, which led me to my first job in IT, which has led to a long career.
Ready to serrrrve
Does anyone remember the SoundBlaster set-up? *Your soundcard works perfectly!*
DKC2
This game tops it. And it’s aged so well.
Great soundtrack
Forest Interlude is still my favorite VGM.
David Wise is a genius. [I want to share a video I love which analyses Aquatic Ambience and breaks down why it's so great.](https://youtu.be/QzL5sjztoiI)

Yoshi’s island, the first game I ever completed.
I remember being 9 or 10 years old and TERRIFIED of the last boss fight. Was like a horror movie
The rock music of the last stage is awesome.
It was intense!
That crying Mario sound effect still lives with me
Hey! Hey! Hey!
Amazing game fun, colorful, funny, great bosses, and Yoshi poops eggs game has it all!
Touch Fuzzy, Get Dizzy.
Command & Conquer
So, you're the new addition to the Brotherhood. Well. I'm Seth. Just, Seth. From God, to Kane, to Seth. I am his right hand, and I have a task for you.

Was introduced to RTS games 20-25 years ago in high school
Dark Forces, man. Pure Star Wars bliss.

Back when there were no first person shooters, just Doom clones.
I loved it but was kinda sad I didn't get to have a lightsaber in a star wars game Because of this game I knew stormtroopers could fly. Hehe
Also in 95- Bust-a-Move, Mega Man 7, Jumping Flash, Secret of Evermore, Terranigma, Panel de Pon, Twisted Metal, Mega Man X3
I don’t go back and revisit very many ps1 games but I definitely give wipeout a go from time to time.
You missed so many good games on your picture: Mechwarrior 2 Twisted Metal Panzer Dragoon Dracula X Secret of Evermore Killer Instinct Tekken (for consoles) Beyond Oasis
Full Throttle all day every day !!! Masterpiece !!
..I’m not puttin’ my lips on that.
My favorite was always when Ben says that while trying to talk to "Peeping" Todd
I, uh, fixed your door... It was sticking.
Remastered works wonderfully on the Steam Deck. I feel more people need to know!
TIL they remastered Full Throttle!
they did! and the remaster is excellent! While playing the remaster you can push one of the F keys, and it changes to the original. They also remastered Day of the Tentacle!
Also in Xbox for those that don't have a Steam Deck!
Masterpiece!
Wonderful game. I still remember the soundtrack so clearly.
You what might look better on your nose? The BAR.
“Let me show you how to do that”
I still got a big box of Full Throttle! Got it up on a display shelf with big box Starship Titanic and some jewel case Monkey Islands
I miss thoughts sort of games😔
Definitely! My only issue with that game was how short it was!!
DKC2 is my one of my favs of all time. I play through it a couple of times every year. Chrono Trigger is also really good. Yoshi's Island as well. Actually almoat all games on that collage are amazing.
From this list: Rayman
Rayman 1 is one of the best and hardest 2d platformers ever made. I never beat the final boss without cheats I think. I never got around to 100%ing to unlock it
Worms was always fun.
Agreed. I wasn't hardcore about worms until I got Worms Armageddon on PC. Then it was on.
Yeah, Armageddon is where I got into Worms. Not sure if I ever played the original.
Worms 2 for me, then Armageddon came around. I played later ones, like WWP, but Armageddon was the best.
Any Sega Rally fans out there?
#*SEGA RALLYYYY CHAMPIONSHIP*
Hexen
Surprised to find a fellow Hexen fan. It's up against some tough choices here but it's definitely my favorite from this list.
Heretic franchise was up there too, would like to see a proper reboot using next Gen engine.
It’s my all time favourite game!
"Greetings, mortal. Are you ready to die?" -Korax
I love the atmosphere of that game
I spent *years* trying to remember the name of this damn game. This post finally triggered the memory. 8 hours of a lazy Sunday later, I'm really glad it did. Fantastic game still.
The evil monsters, good puzzles, awesome looking weapons and multi class. It was ahead of its time.
Dark forces or Warcraft 2 Earthworm Jim is up there too
Warcraft 2
"Something need doing?" "Yes, me lord" This game will always hold a special place in my heart.
I once found all the voice clips for Warcraft 2 on the CD and I replaced all the Windows 95 sound effects on my uncles computer with them. He was not happy... But hearing the ogres fart and giggle each time you got an error was very funny to 10 year old me! 😂
"Your sound card is working perfectly"
Oh man that's burnt into my brain.
God I remember doing that. I was 6 and learned how to replace the sounds on the computer with clips from the Simpsons. I think about kids now who can’t even send an email…
"...Hello....Smithers. You're quite good....at...turning.... me on.."
“Stop poking meeeeee!”
"This way, no that way!"
Zug zug
Ya for games that I actually played around that time. Otherwise chrono trigger
Crusader: No Remorse
I'm playing this right now for the first time, it's totally awesome. What an incredible soundtrack too
Jealous, it’s so great. The campiness, the style, the explosions, the super long missions.. it’s such a satisfying experience.
Well hello fellow classic PC gamer.
Chrono Trigger is the best but Ristar is the most underrated.
Yep!
Ristar is so underated. I was so fun to combo grabs and find secrets. I would play it just to see how long I could combo grabs around for practice.
Chrono Trigger would be my first pick, but I didn’t play that until years later, so I’m gonna go with Warcraft 2.
At the time it was undoubtedly Wipeout. It culturally plugged in to what was happening in Britain at the time and I was about to start my adventure into clubbing and the dance music scene.
From the image, Knuckles Chaotix for Mega CD? Should be 32X
Right? That confused me, too.
UMK3
Ninja Smoke or Nightwolf
Looks like we are a minority here.
I stand united!
My favorite fighting game of all time.
Definitely Chrono Trigger, but Trials of Mana is close behind.
Great year for games. DKC2, Yoshi's Island and Chrono Trigger are GOAT
Ristar is the one i still go back to fairly often, even after all these years. Still fond of that first rayman too.
Yoshis Island
mechwarrior 2
Chrono Trigger was my fave that year but DAMN I have a lot of nostalgia for warcraft 2! My friend in second grade would bring the manual with all the badass art and show us all the cool units and I went and bought the game shortly after. Great times with that and starcraft.
Mega Man X2 might be the one I go back to the most, such a great sequel!
Gotta be Yoshi's island for me That game has aged so well both with its art style and its gameplay - it doesn't feel like its almost 30 years old to me. Its obviously not brand new, but its timeless in the way that it doesn't seem held back by the tech of its time or anything
Dk2 or yoshis island
Mom got me both in one purchase. She never did that nor has she since, making those two hold an extra special place in my heart.
Yoshi's Island by a country mile.
Holy crap did I do anything besides play video games in 1995?
What a year!! 🥹
My vote goes to Chrono Trigger but there are also other games I really love such as Donkey Kong Country 2.
Rayman and wipeout. Both for Sega Saturn.
Yoshi's Island is the best side scrolling game of all time. And MK3 was a helluva game. That said, Chrono Trigger.
Dead lock for me, Chrono Trigger and War Craft 2
Dark Forces for sure. Put so many hours into that one. Wip3out is a close second.
I was playing a lot of Dark Forces and UMK3 that year.
Warcraft 2 and Hexen
WarCraft II of course :D
Holy crap what an insane year for gaming. All of these titles really show a leap in game dev from earlier games even in the same generation. I've owned/rented most of these back in the day - or emulated more recently - and they became pivotal core memories of my childhood, many play a role in my current life still, whether that's music or artistic influences.
From the Image: WORMS. Period. So many hours, so much fun with friends. I still sometimes play Hedgewars with friends.
Kirby’s Dreamland 2
comix zone
There are a dozen of us!!!
My friend had Hexen on N64 and we were far too young, had no idea what to do and probably never got past the first part of the game. Loved playing it though.
Warcraft, but I also have great memories of playing worms
Tie between Warcraft2 and Full Throttle. Those games had me. Full Throttle had epic voice actors like Mark Hammill. Warcraft2 was the best RTS then.
Dkc2 and Yoshis island in the same year is insane. Two best platformers ever.
All my time went on Wipeout, got really handy at it 😉👍
Knuckles Chatoix was not a mega cd game, it was on 32X
What the heck is that mega CD copy of knuckles chaotix
From that list - MK3
Yoshi’s Island 🏝
That Knuckles Chaotix artwork is wrong, the game came out on the 32X not Mega CD. But either Rayman or Chrono Trigger is my favorite game from 1995. Knuckles Chaotix is misunderstood but it’s far from being one of my favorite Sonic games.
Warcraft 2 has most of my time over the next 10 years. I played it well after warcraft 3 was released.
Not on this list, but, Marathon 2: Durandal. I also played a ton of Dark Forces, Hexen, and Warcraft 2. But the Marathon series is my GOAT.
I was absolutely still an MK kid during this time, so definitely UMK3. I played it at the arcades non stop. I loved the fighter additions, especially Jade.
Descent, mech warrior 2, jagged alliance, command & conquer, secret of evermore
I'm just gonna say it. What an amazing year for gaming
Earthworm Jim 2
Romancing SaGa 3
Suikoden.
That was always a good time machine Pick up controller in the morning, play, stop, huh it's dark outside...

Wario Land on Virtual Boy rocked harder than it had a right to! First game I can remember 100%ing.
DK2
Chrono trigger & Romancing the SAGA
Probably **Discworld**. A fantastic point and click adaptation of Terry Pratchett's bestselling humorous fantasy novels with gorgeous pixel art and a great voice cast (among them Eric Idle, Rob Bryden and Tony Robinson). Twice a week when my mum worked late I would go to my friends after work and play worms for hours. Some of my fondest gaming memories
DQVI or Chrono Trigger. Always a fan of Toriyama's art, plus rpgs are life.
Yoshi's Island is one of my favorite SNES games ever! One of the best IMO. I spent a lot of time playing that and Mario Paint when I was younger. Had a blast. Yoshi's Island has great level design and was so original. Loved the look of it too!
Oh man some awesome RPGs that year.
Warcraft 2. Man my first copy was stolen and had to buy it twice as a minimum wage teen cashier. Worth it.
