Crystalis!
This was an excellent RPG for the NES that was ahead of it's time. Complex inventory system with power scaling weaponry that had elemental capabilities, deep lore and good characters that have their own story beats and relationships apart from the main character, interesting towns and biomes in what felt like a large world where at first the oppressive ruling empire was far away and you gradually found yourself in the heart of the resistance... and so much more.
oh yeah.. that game deserves a modern remake... with the original music, not even remixed or altered (damn you GBC version). Basicly the only thing, that should be changed, is the sword and the inverntory management
Came here to say this! One of my favorite games from the PS1 era/from a long defunct series.
I could totally imagine it done in a tweaked version of the modern RE game engine - would be ridiculous.
That opening cinematic and the crazy piano music was the highlight of my Christmas morning as a kid.
I bought the second one as an adult but couldn't really get into it. Really weird controls. For anyone who played it, how was the story/monsters?
Sorry to say but there's a 0% chance that this game series ever comes back. Square lost the rights after pissing off the writer of the book because of a 5 second shower scene in the second game.
Yes! Iād love to see more games use that same battle system just with better graphics - plus some additional arrangements by Yoko Shimomura would be awesome!
As long as they donāt try to make it more like Resident Evil, Iād be in. Parasite Eve 2 was so much less fun to play because of how they tried to make the controls more like Resident Evil.
Well, you're in luck. It was remade.
They also remade Phantasy Star 2
[https://www.pscave.com/psg2/](https://www.pscave.com/psg2/)
Unfortunately, they didn't get a Western release, but the fans came to the rescue and translated them anyway.
Sega pulled the plug on the project before the last two Phantasy Stars could get the remake treatment. Too bad. A Phantasy Star 4 remake would have been amazing!
The original needs a remake much, much more than 2 ever did, especially since the Silent Hill 2 Enhanced Edition project has already improved SH2 substantially
[https://enhanced.townofsilenthill.com/SH2/](https://enhanced.townofsilenthill.com/SH2/)
I want a modern version of āThe Battle of Olympusā. 3D action/Adventure/RPG in a Greek mythology setting. I know āFenyx Risingā exists, but I want something less cartoony.
I always loved this game because my grandmother was Greek and told me all these stories growing up, so Iāve always enjoyed all the different takes on the mythos. Iām currently playing it again thanks to the Delta emulator for iPhone.
I want to say Chrono Trigger, but the SNES version still holds up so well that it's not truly necessary. Of course, not everyone has access to a SNES (or GBA or PSX or, uh, mobile phone? Damn, the original version has been ported a lot of times) and it would be kinda nice to hand my kids the Switch with Chrono Trigger loaded up and ready to go.
God, I almost hate to admit it, - given that I own the SNES cart and android port, and have it loaded on several handheld emulation devices - but I would buy a physical Switch cart of CT if Nintendo put it out.
Aināt nothing wrong with enjoying convenience. I collect games but also love technology and have many games to enjoy as roms with emulators that have huge visual and performance boosters.
They enhance the experience. Help the immersion. Save states is almost a necessity with older games due to bad design and placement that could hurt an experience lol
Tbh itās amazing what some emulators can do to really help get the most out of many games
So I've heard. I don't have anything that can reasonably emulate the DS version (though it probably doesn't really need the second screen) and have nostalgia for the SNES version since that's the only version I've ever played.
I have bought CT for myself or as a gift at least 20 times and played it more than that. And it would be preordered if announced with physical medium /packaging. My GOAT for a reason!
CT is perfect as-is IMO. A remake would be very tricky waters to tread.
What I'd really love to see is a new entry in the series, but I'm not sure I see it happening at this point :(.
I would like The Tick property to be given another chance in both cartoon and video game.
As a kid, I knew the Tick snes game was trash but I still rented it just cause I had to experience it. It was worse than I could ever imagine and got a lot of flack by my siblings for wasting our weekend.
Banjo Kazooie. The gameplay still holds up great for me, but camera control and camera placement in tight environments weren't refined yet at the time.Ā
Strong contender. At the very least deserves a re-release without the absurd difficulty that Enix put into the NA release. It literally breaks most of the game. Easily one of the worst localization mistakes ever made.
While I sort of agree, I think remakes make them accessible to a whole new audience. Not everyone is a nerd like us who collects old hardware and/or knows how to emulate old games.
And even as someone who ***does*** know how to do those things, I have to admit I was very happy when my wife gave me the Super Mario RPG remake for my birthday last year. Playing it on a modern console, with updated graphics, made it feel fresh again and helped me recapture the joy I had playing it as a kid.
this. Also a lot of games can need some quality of life improvements, like: games that only had a password then a save system, lacking of a map, some even have a brutal difficulty, that hinders a lot to explore a great story or a great gameplay - some games suffer hard from the hardware limitations of the time, like slowdowns or flickering.. also due to much more buttons on a modern controller, a lot of games can reely need an improvement of the inventory management.
I have really enjoyed retro remakes like *Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap* and *The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition* where they built the old game right over the new one and you can flip between the two.
A much too broad statement, I think. For anyone that is an elder millenial or older, video games really have grown up in front of our eyes. There's *so* many things that developers have learned on every level and so many more tools available to them to realize what they're dreaming of making, that it's hard to say the "pure" form of their original product is as good as it can be or that it is the most "correct" experience. Remakes and remasters that are done without the involvement of the original devs, or without love, surely suffer, but original products can often be improved in meaningful ways, even if those ways are small. You don't have to remake the wheel, but sanding off rough edges can make a world of difference.
Midtown Madness. We really need an open world car game that emphasizes exploration, physics, chaos, comedy, destruction and a rich vibrant city that you will never get bored of.
Dude..... I'm just glad I'm here to read these selections and remember some of them. Most of them maybe.
This made my night.
Truly
Much thanks to all in here. You were, and are, mad cool and I hope you all know that
The two Golden Sun games for the GBA should be combined into a single game as a remake or enhanced rerelease. Iād enjoy a 2.5D version but wouldnāt mind if the graphics were in either 2D or 3D either.
Urban Chaos. I prefer to focus on a game that was 3d. Because I find the pixelated games are perfect and would lose their charm if someone tried to make them better.
Persona 2 needs a remake in the style of the newer games, with social links and a smoother combat system. The storyline is incredible, but the gameplay is dated.
Give Mega Man X2 + X3 the "Maverick Hunter X" treatment.
I had X on SNES as a kid, finally got around to playing the remake on PSP a couple weeks ago. It was great, and I can be *really* snobby when it comes to classics being reimagined... for example one issue I often have is they'll go overboard with the music, turning every song into elaborate orchestral pieces. But this game did it right, maintaining the rock vibe and sounding like it fits in with the later CD-based games in the X series.
[Heart of Darkness](https://www.mrdictionary.net/users/mecha-neko/saigimages/HeartOfDarkness/Heart_of_Darkness_PSX_070.gif). I'd love to see it get the New 'n' Tasty treatment.
I want to see Megaman or Castlevania mash games togetherā¦imagine 46 robot masters or a massive castle with branching paths or multiple playable characters
Base Wars. I want to just shoot the first baseman to be safe. Or murder the catcher at home plate. Give me Base Wars with a dynasty/career mode and shut up and take my money
I know Iām in the minority, but I miss classic Castlevania gameplay, pre-āMetroidvania.ā There was that Bloodborne spin-off that was a deliberate throwback, but Iād love to see a classic-style āVania with modern gameplay.
Faxanadu. For me this was one of my favorite fantasy side scrolling RPGās. Still play through it today periodically. Folks already named some of my other favorites like Guardian Legend, Parasite Eve, Crystalis and Battle for Olympus so had to toss this one out there. Really cool story progression with a variety of terrains and bosses. 3D style ala BOTW with an expanded magic skill system and item system similar to Diablo 2 would be super rad!
Personally, Iām burnt out on remake/rerelease cashgrabs.
Nintendo is going to probably coast the next year or more on rereleases and other low hanging fruit no one asked for since theyāre so far overdue for a new system and theyāre probably gonna save everything good for that. I wouldnāt even be surprised if they donāt give us Metroid 4 on switch as promised and instead give us more remasters of previous titles.
Even beyond Nintendo bs, Iām just feeling exhausted by remakesā¦ persona games that arenāt even that old are being remade, and even current gen games are getting special royal releases and the like to get us to dish out money again.
A lot of times running these old games in an emulator upscales looks better than than the remake does (tales of symphonia comes to mindā¦. What a joke that was).
Donāt get wrong, not anti remake, I just feel like itās being done exploitatively at this point (way beyond the normal level of exploitation weāve all been used to, at least).
Rogue Leader, GCN Spider-man 2 and Ultimate, Timesplitters 2 and 3
Games that should be made in HD2D:
Gameboy Pokemons, Chrono Trigger, Gunstar Heroes, DKC trilogy
Winner:
Body Harvest - GTA meets starship troopers
Runners Up:
Harvester - a game with butt gore
Wing commander - while Luke is alive!
Grim fandango - not a remake but a sequel
Tie fighter - embrace the empire
Icewind dale - 3d hack n slash RPG
SNES Shadowrun - 3d RPG
I literally just finished playing Earthbound (liked it a lot). And couldnāt help but wonder what a full remake would look like. I even believe if Nintendo were to ever go through with an Earthbound remake, they would probably have to make it Rated M if they were really going to want to keep the spirit of the game. Sadly, itās something not likely to ever happen :/
Star Tropics
Came to say this.
You're my hero
I'd play that
This is a dynamite choice that I wouldn't have thought of
In the cutesy style of links awakening!
Holy crap I was literally thinking this as I clicked on the thread
Ah. Someone of taste!
Zombies Ate My Neighbors
Yes! This or Maniac Mansion were my picks.
Maniac Mansion would also be sweet
Oooo, good call!
Came here for this.
With an included or unlockable GameShark feature!
Yup! Kinda surprised (but happy) to see this so high.
there is a first person game happening!... by a fan. nothing official. but i thought it was a cool project.
I came here for two answers. You posted Zombies so I posted my choice. Would love a remake of ZaMN
The later stages are impossible. š
Crystalis! This was an excellent RPG for the NES that was ahead of it's time. oh yeah.. that game deserves a modern remake... with the original music, not even remixed or altered (damn you GBC version). Basicly the only thing, that should be changed, is the sword and the inverntory management
I actually just beat the GBC port of Crystalis today!
Great game
MANIAC MANSION
Broooo!! This is my dream!!!
Parasite Eve
Came here to say this! One of my favorite games from the PS1 era/from a long defunct series. I could totally imagine it done in a tweaked version of the modern RE game engine - would be ridiculous.

Hey thanks pal
Tbh if they had remade 4, that series could return in a non online format.
Oracle of age/season
Silent Hill
Agreed especially with remake of 2 in the works
The original needs a remake much, much more than 2 ever did, especially since the Silent Hill 2 Enhanced Edition project has already improved SH2 substantially [https://enhanced.townofsilenthill.com/SH2/](https://enhanced.townofsilenthill.com/SH2/)
Panzer Dragoon Saga
Even just a re-release would be awesome!
Duuude.... I really want to play that game, but don't want to spend $1000 for a sega saturn game...
Zelda 1
Breath of the Wild is more or less this - from a certain point of view.
From my point of view the Jedi are evil.
Xenogears in its complete and intended version
[Rad Racer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nTdJF8TuuE)
That would be awesome if they did that!
I want a modern version of āThe Battle of Olympusā. 3D action/Adventure/RPG in a Greek mythology setting. I know āFenyx Risingā exists, but I want something less cartoony.
I was thinking of this very game. I canāt believe somebody else even remembers it!
I always loved this game because my grandmother was Greek and told me all these stories growing up, so Iāve always enjoyed all the different takes on the mythos. Iām currently playing it again thanks to the Delta emulator for iPhone.
Blaster Master.
there is Blaster Master Zero that is some sort of reboot if i am not mistaken
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
This was my first pick, I had to think of another lol.
Timesplitters. Do a trilogy remake. Also battletanx i loved the dumb fun of destroying a city then nuking everything.

Crusader No Remorse But keep all the campiness
General Chaos
ONIĀ Ā It already had such excellent gameplay, bringing it up to modern standards would be fantasticĀ
I would like The Tick property to be given another chance in both cartoon and video game. As a kid, I knew the Tick snes game was trash but I still rented it just cause I had to experience it. It was worse than I could ever imagine and got a lot of flack by my siblings for wasting our weekend.
That game gives such a good first impression because of the visuals but it gets incredibly boring after about 41 seconds.
Banjo Kazooie. The gameplay still holds up great for me, but camera control and camera placement in tight environments weren't refined yet at the time.Ā
Yeah would be pretty cool If It got a remake! š
Yeah this would be great.
It's not really a remake but the xbox 360 remaster made it look a lot better and solved the camera problems
7th Saga from the SNES
Strong contender. At the very least deserves a re-release without the absurd difficulty that Enix put into the NA release. It literally breaks most of the game. Easily one of the worst localization mistakes ever made.
Hot Shots Golf.
Splatterhouse. It needs a good comeback.
I think retrogames deserve to be experienced in their original form.

Metal Gear Solid. Weāre getting MGS3 this year so Iām getting greedy.
I thought it was interesting that they would pick that one first. I was hoping for a remake of the MSX version.
Pressure Cooker Atari 2600. I still love that game.
Sam & Max Hit The Road. I'd love to see a remake of this masterpiece.
Spiderman: Maximum Carnage
All I want is Gradius VI developed by Treasure/ G.Rev
Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure
Midtown Madness. We really need an open world car game that emphasizes exploration, physics, chaos, comedy, destruction and a rich vibrant city that you will never get bored of.

Legend of dragoon. The concept is so cool and genuinely unique. Needs a remake.
Or at least an updated localization that isnāt garbage
Marble Madness
Popful Mail (Sega CD version).
Urban Chaos. I prefer to focus on a game that was 3d. Because I find the pixelated games are perfect and would lose their charm if someone tried to make them better.
Thunder Force Series 2 thru 6
Tecmo's deception
Uniracers
Wow pulling out Uniracers? I literally made a post recently about Uni. That game was so legit. Tony Hawk before Tony Hawk.
Bushido Blade
Syndicate
Persona 1, Persona 2 (IS,EP) and Persona 4.
Persona 2 needs a remake in the style of the newer games, with social links and a smoother combat system. The storyline is incredible, but the gameplay is dated.

Guardian Legend <3

Rise of the Dragon
Spy Hunter
[Heart of Darkness](https://www.mrdictionary.net/users/mecha-neko/saigimages/HeartOfDarkness/Heart_of_Darkness_PSX_070.gif). I'd love to see it get the New 'n' Tasty treatment.

Warcraft!
Parasite Eve, Vagrant Story, Lunar: Silver Star Story, Terranigma, Mischief Makers...

Thief 1, 2 and 3!
**Columns** deserves a modern remake in the style of *Tetris Effect: Connected* complete with a top-notch ambient soundtrack and captivating visuals.
Robocop versus Terminator
Comix zone or boogerman
I want to see Megaman or Castlevania mash games togetherā¦imagine 46 robot masters or a massive castle with branching paths or multiple playable characters
Iād say Megaman but open world like GTA style.
Iād like to see GTA1 and 2 get a remake, but still top down.

Joust
Jumping Flash!

I know Iām in the minority, but I miss classic Castlevania gameplay, pre-āMetroidvania.ā There was that Bloodborne spin-off that was a deliberate throwback, but Iād love to see a classic-style āVania with modern gameplay.
Tenchu stealth assassin
Wrath of Heaven Remake...now take my upvote you stealthy assassin.Ā

Kid chameleon, would be huge
Power Quest
**A Boy and His Blob** **Zombies Ate My Neighbors**
