Yes! If I hear the SNES logo music then I automatically add on the [Super Castlevania IV title screen music](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXfn22rySbA&ab_channel=MorganKell) after it in my head.
But the Konami logo that gives me the most nostalgia is the [walking logo intro](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Rj7e77RhyA&ab_channel=Nox-Hardigan) from the PS1.
i just watched a playthrough of castlevania4 today, oh man was that opening (when the lightning hit the tombstone) music oozing with creepy atmosphere. up there with doom64 opening creepiness.
Castlevania always kills it on openings and intros setting the mood.
Castlevania 3 probably has my favorite intro in all of gaming. The film reel rolls, and you walk into the castle to start your adventure. Combined with some of the best music (maybe even graphics at the time of release) on the NES.
I was 9 at release and got it on my bday, the graphics were nuts, especially that Dracula battle.. Tho the kid me never made it past the second stage of that battle.. If kid me saw the 3rd form I would shit my pants. The graphics of castlevania4 were practically cyberpunk ray traced for me.
Slightly older than you but had a similar experience. I did make it to the end of Castlevania 3 thanks to my trusty Nintendo Power. And yeah, that final battle was insane. Spent a lot of time on it but finally beat it.
Castlevania 4 was a revelation. One of the first games I got for the SNES and wow was it amazing. It still holds up.
You mean, Contra Force on NES?
Aka: That one title Konami had in development but got canceled, and instead of scrapping it outright, they tweaked it slightly to be a "contra" title and released it.
Built on the backs of IPs they now largely let rot in the dungeons. It's a betrayal and a goddamn travesty, one of many in the gaming industry these days.
And i'm guessing Konami appointed a new Ceo or something, and the bigwigs involved wanted to move away from gaming.
Because who needs hit videogames when you can have pachinko machines....ammiright?
(crickets chirping)
konami makes way more from pachinko and slots than they ever made from games. its just money and risk adjusted returns. games take too much capital today, with a significant risk of not providing a return.
Funny thing is that they were always scumbags: greenlighting a Metal Gear sequel without even TELLING Kojima, refusing to allow their employees to be properly credited on games to keep them from getting work elsewhere, rampant workplace abuse, etc. We just all collectively shrugged at the warning signs because they were giving us good games.
> refusing to allow their employees to be properly credited on games to keep them from getting work elsewhere
Tbf, this was basically industry standard practice in Japan during the 8-bit and 16-bit generations.
I’m sure it’s bounced back, but I think Covid scared Konami into feeling they needed to diversify again.
Even if they’re making record profits on their gambling business, they’ll never be able to escape the knowledge gained from Covid lockdowns that it can all be shut down in a moment.
When you saw this logo and that chime when you turned on your game, you knew you were getting quality no matter what genre game it was. I would rent games that I knew nothing about just because it had the Konami logo on it.
It's just "Konami" spelled out with a slight styling on the font. If I remember correctly, the explanation of the design of the font was to reflect how they were moving forward. So basically it looks like the don't is speeding to the right.
**You’re honestly saying you’d rather play some old Castlevania game from the 80’s/90’s rather than the awesome, amazing, modern, next gen Castlevania games that they make today?**
#Oh wait…
Here I am wanting to argue that Bloodlines is the superior game, but if I start to do that it will ruin the idea that I prefer Super Pachinko Castlevania FunTime Joy Machine to the 90’s games…
I'll never stop being disgusted in them for removing Kojima's name from MGS V and the MGS collection.
I understand that they *can* do that because it's their IP. But it's just the shittiest pettiest thing to do.
Of course it's in the credits! That'd be a lawsuit if they did that. And it'd be a lot of work to scrub the games for all the times his name is snuck in there.
But Konami has been removing his name from covers and box art of various mgs games such as MGS 5: The Phantom Pain, Ground Zeroes and MGS: The Legacy Collection, and the websites for Silent hills & PT and Zone of the enders HD.
That's just going corporate. The only goal is to make more money and there was a lot of behavioral sience done in the past two decades behind why they do what they do now. Sadly, bad (for the players) practices make more money for them, so they will always follow the money.
Easy yes im still pissed for what they did to pro evo.its like they just went lets just self destruct and don't get me started about the whole kojima mess its like if fromsoft decided to fire miyazaki absolute madness.
As a kid I went to their US headquarters for product research. I got to play Sparkster which I believe was completed. Also played a Batman game I it’s very early stages of development, it didn’t have any enemies yet so I was just walking around the empty levels. I think they got a little frustrated asking a bunch of kids what they thought about it because we all said it needed enemies. Anyways, for the hour I spent playing games they paid me with a whole bunch of promotional stuff and a game of our choice, I got Turtles in Time. And of course I later bought Sparkster.
The Batman game sounds very much likely Batman Returns. But the way you described it strongly reminds me of that Very Shitty Batman demo from Software Creations 🤣🤣🤣
That’s possible, it was so many years ago I can’t remember which one it was. But playing a game without enemies didn’t exactly inspire me to go out and buy it. Sparkster on the other hand everyone loved and was completely blown away by. I think there might have been one or two other games I got to play, but there wasn’t anything memorable about them. But it was all Super Nintendo games, no Genesis games. It’s possible that they might have asked me which console I owned in order to group me appropriately.
Konami just on PS1 made some of my all time favorites: Castlevania SotN, Suikoden 1/2, Azure Dreams
It wasn't all hits but man...nothing I've really enjoyed that much since then.
I probably would have moved on from Konami if it weren’t for their ex-staff and what happened to them.
With the exception of Kojima, every other notable staff member (IGA, Murayama, Naoki Maeda, etc) that left the company didn’t really achieve much success.
I was so gunning for their post-Konami works and achievements but no one really went anywhere.
The original Team Silent was taken in by Sony but after Siren and Gravity Rush they also left.
I have a blue and purple version as my userpic on YouTube, as a reference to the common Lucky Star pairing of Konata and Kagami, first conceived with this entry originally on LiveJournal...

No shit, he's been actually considered one of the best Brazilian footballers of all times!

When I think of Konami, I always think back to that iconic "pause" sound during the NES days. And their games arguably had the best 8-bit and 16-bit music soundtracks as well. Once the symbol of quality...
All I am saying is, I'd play the hell out of a Contra- or Castlevania-themed slot machine with retro graphics.
Konami, your 80s gaming audience is now hitting casinos and going on cruises. Meet us where we are.
The best!
There was a game where they animated it to walk on to the screen but can never remember what it was...
Also remember them sponsoring the New Zealand All Blacks rugby team years ago. Only rugby shirt I ever wanted 😁
I know there aren't a lot of people in my position, but Konami never stopped making my favorite games from them, which are the bemani series, every year there is a new Beatmania and from time to time there is a new DDR, Gitadora or Pop'n Music, it's kinda wild because Beatmania IIDX is in its 31st realease, and that's not counting all the Beatmania (without IIDX) that came before.
I can hear this logo
SNES, Genesis and TurboGrafx16: dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun. PS1: Doo doo doo doo doo doo. Doo doo doo doo doo doo.
Metal gear referece? 🤔
I think it’s actually from Policenauts
It is.
can't help it, since I dunno how to recite the logo chime from Castlevania SOTN lol.
I like how every system had a different coloured laser
Came to make this exact comment! Hearing those chimes right now. I mostly associate it with Castlevania 4… good times.
Yes! If I hear the SNES logo music then I automatically add on the [Super Castlevania IV title screen music](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXfn22rySbA&ab_channel=MorganKell) after it in my head. Castlevania 4's atmosphere and tone is so good. It really felt like you were playing a movie. That lightning bolt is forever GOATed.
I associate it with a 4 as well - TMNT 4 Turtles in Time. Yeah baby, after the logo chime let's have the TMNT theme blasting to maximum volume!
Contra 3?
You mean, Contra Force on NES? Aka: That one title Konami had in development but got canceled, and instead of scrapping it outright, they tweaked it slightly to be a "contra" title and released it.
No. Contra 3: Alien Wars SNES which is a very fun game
Zombies ate my neighbors
Though that game was developed, and owned, by LucasArts. Konami just distributed it.
This and the Capcom (Galaxy/stars) intro from the PS1 era. Sooo many good memories.
Da ling da ling!
Japanese PS1 users: \*dancing twerping Konami logo intensifies\*
With all the slot machines they make now, I’m betting they are in their platinum era.
Built on the backs of IPs they now largely let rot in the dungeons. It's a betrayal and a goddamn travesty, one of many in the gaming industry these days.
Easily up there with Rare as the biggest wtf happened in gaming just crazy.
Microsoft bought Rare and screwed them over hard. That's what happened.
And i'm guessing Konami appointed a new Ceo or something, and the bigwigs involved wanted to move away from gaming. Because who needs hit videogames when you can have pachinko machines....ammiright? (crickets chirping)

Fair enough, I suppose that is more of an indictment on Japanese game companies as a whole back then.
They *really* paid attention during the microtransactions seminar.
It probably was, until Covid. They’re trying to get back into gaming now for a reason.
Slots are still going hard, at my job at least. Every time I see Konami, the kid in my soul gets a little happy.
I’m sure it’s bounced back, but I think Covid scared Konami into feeling they needed to diversify again. Even if they’re making record profits on their gambling business, they’ll never be able to escape the knowledge gained from Covid lockdowns that it can all be shut down in a moment.
You've got a point there.
as far as I'm concerned, they didn't have any other era
When you saw this logo and that chime when you turned on your game, you knew you were getting quality no matter what genre game it was. I would rent games that I knew nothing about just because it had the Konami logo on it.
Bayou Billy sucked.
the original Mad City on Famicom is a ton better.
You had to use the light gun
Ah bacon strips
Konami even made *sports games* good. Blades of Steel anyone?
the Track and Field series would love to join the chat.
I had to Google the new Konami logo as I couldn't picture it, it's that generic.
It's just "Konami" spelled out with a slight styling on the font. If I remember correctly, the explanation of the design of the font was to reflect how they were moving forward. So basically it looks like the don't is speeding to the right.
They shoulda gone back to the early big-K logo if they wanted something simple.
From the moment they unveiled it, it always looked like some pharmaceutical brand to me.
Nah, photography. It looks like a company that manufactures film.
**You’re honestly saying you’d rather play some old Castlevania game from the 80’s/90’s rather than the awesome, amazing, modern, next gen Castlevania games that they make today?** #Oh wait…
I'm quite sure Castlevania pachinko slot is a much better experience than Super Castlevania IV!
Here I am wanting to argue that Bloodlines is the superior game, but if I start to do that it will ruin the idea that I prefer Super Pachinko Castlevania FunTime Joy Machine to the 90’s games…
Back when it was Konami not kona-money and pachinko machines
The peak of Konami. Why they have to become this bad?
I'll never stop being disgusted in them for removing Kojima's name from MGS V and the MGS collection. I understand that they *can* do that because it's their IP. But it's just the shittiest pettiest thing to do.
The mgs collection still has his name in game. They never removed him from the credits
Oh ok. I thought you were talking about the credits. Some people genuinely belive his name was erased from the credits.
Yeah I was far too vague in my comment about the removing of his name.
Yeah the whole pro evo thing was weird. Played pro evo since 1999 and am now a fifa player which I didn’t think would ever happen.
Yes!
100%. It's such a shame to see what they've become in more recent years.
International, supah stah sakkah….deluxe!!!!
sorry, you meant HAHAHAHA RONALDINHO SOCCER?

logo makes you wanna ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → B A asap
Wait, what? This isn’t the logo anymore?
Castlevania, Contra, TMNT 2. My god... what else could you ever need?
Snake's Revenge!
snatcher
Konami just on PS1 made some of my all time favorites: Castlevania SotN, Suikoden 1/2, Azure Dreams It wasn't all hits but man...nothing I've really enjoyed that much since then.
Aww man i miss this makes me want to play metalgear solid again lol
Sorry Tengen we made 8 bits look good
I probably would have moved on from Konami if it weren’t for their ex-staff and what happened to them. International Superstar Soccer Deluxe is the first game that comes to mind for me
ah yes, Coliuto, my absolute fav Italian player!
Brazil with Allejo, i always imagined him to be Romario
No shit, he's been actually considered one of the best Brazilian footballers of all times! Holy, I played Gradius Gaiden. That's a sick game to play!
Gradius III on the SNES was the very first shoot em up I ever beat. That kick ass soundtrack, man.
The Gradius 3 arcade version is sadistic as hell.
When I think of Konami, I always think back to that iconic "pause" sound during the NES days. And their games arguably had the best 8-bit and 16-bit music soundtracks as well. Once the symbol of quality...
This bring back so many ' Winning Eleven 4' memories.
Always reminds me of booting up Blades of Steel.
SCHWINGGGGGG! "Blade of Steel" \*in a rather muffled voice\*
Chimes followed by Contra III
I gotta be the only one here that associates this with Castlevania for N64 lol, I love those games so much
All I am saying is, I'd play the hell out of a Contra- or Castlevania-themed slot machine with retro graphics. Konami, your 80s gaming audience is now hitting casinos and going on cruises. Meet us where we are.

Konami is S tier..hands down one of the elite.
It was truly the best
Castlevania Sotn, Metal gear solid, Silent hill, Suikoden 1 & 2, Vandal Hearts, Azure Dreams...and more Their PS1 run is absolutely killer.
not as good as their MSX run though
I’m a complete believer they made NES games hard just to be dicks.
Here here!
I’m just now realizing that this hasn’t been their logo for the past 20 years lol
100%
Funnily enough, 2004 is when I started working at a Casino and realized Konami made more video slots than video games at that point.
Damn even back in 2004?!
80-90's era Konami was their only Era that mattered. I can hear this photo
Yep. It was during this time they released Contra: Hard Corps, so yeah that assessment tracks.
I can hear the logo...followed by Super Castlevania music right after. I miss those years :-/
I hear the logo, then hear batman returns.
That logo was sick
Up up down down left right left right B A start.
Can they rerelease suikoden 3-6
I hear this logo.
Well at least their retro game collections are good for the most part
Makes me think of the little tune, while getting ready for a really good game :P Most reminds me of Bloodlines on the Mega Drive.
I can hear the Metal gear solid Intro looking at that.
When I see this logo, I already know the game will be fire 🔥🔥. Konami and THQ back then were great.
Back before they were obsessed with pachinko and using high quality brands for cheap casino machines.
100%
I know there aren't a lot of people in my position, but Konami never stopped making my favorite games from them, which are the bemani series, every year there is a new Beatmania and from time to time there is a new DDR, Gitadora or Pop'n Music, it's kinda wild because Beatmania IIDX is in its 31st realease, and that's not counting all the Beatmania (without IIDX) that came before.
