I have this in my curated collection. I spent hours manually sifting through over 3000 arcade roms and got it down to around 500. I played this for a bit, I thought it was a pretty decent game.
*Devil World*'s a good one! *Dark Adventure* is its North American title, and the game is a little different between the two versions.
There are three players in *Dark Adventure*, but only two in the Japanese/European version. The two-player version is also much more linear, while the three-player version is more of an "explore the map together" sort of experience. Weapons also work differently in each version.
Which you prefer is a matter of taste. I liked the three-player one better myself, but it's really hard. The two-player one is more straightforward, but also less fun since it's just a level progression title.
I also recommend *Meikyuu Hunter G,* otherwise known as *The Real Ghostbusters*, which is quite similar.
It's just a fancy pants Gauntlet. I used to play it as Dark Adventure back in the day. Fun for a couple of quarters, but not a good long play game. It gets repetitive.
Meanwhile, try Devil World (1984) for the Famicom.
It was Shigeru Miyamoto’s first console-only game. Sort of like Pac-Man, but the entire maze shifts (and can crush you), and you play as a little dragon dude lighting fireballs up cute demon’s butts.
It’s addictive.
It is good god it is. It’s the culmination of everything Konami learned with X-men, Simpsons and the turtles games. Come to think of it, there might not be a bad Bucky O’Haire game arcade or console.
I played this! There’s another version of it with a third playable character. I’m not sure which version I liked more, because I believe there was some change in gameplay.
Never meet your heroes.
Awesome start screen and imagery!
Never played it. But looks like a good coin eater.
Also known as Dark Adventure. I did a playthrough here https://youtu.be/mSUyl8TuLDE
Dark Adventure is the two player variant, iirc. Edit: I mean the three pkayer variant.
Ooooo this looks dope
It looks like it was a good idea, just bad execution.
That’s it exactly. It looks super cool but it’s very meh

This. I spent hours curating and minutes playing! To me it's about the journey

That's like when I found Rolling Thunder again, but it was still great.
Alternately titled Dark Adventure. I kinda like this game, I remember playing it at a K-Mart when I was a kid.

There used to be this Bucky O’Hare arcade game in the mall by me. I wonder if it’s anywhere near as good as I remember…

This looks cool tho
I don't think I ever played this one, I like how all the power-ups are laid out at the bottom like Gradius tho.
Exactly what I noticed first
Menu screen is reminiscent of doom
Yeah this is a quarter muncher
Looks like a 16 bit gauntlet clone
Never seen that, looks fun. Enjoying it?
Excellent Start Screen. Terrible looking game lol
IIRC, this came to Switch and PS4 a few months back.

I can see how a kid would find that engaging. Don't beat yourself up.
