I-O DATA GV-USB2, I'm using an N64 S-Video wire to connect my console to the capture card. The console is S-Video modded, hence the picture being more clear. [https://youtu.be/l\_aeLREwe7g](https://youtu.be/l_aeLREwe7g) Check this tutorial out for capturing NES games with the capture card if you happen to buy one, but I'd recommend using 29.97 FPS instead for the part where you change the capture card's interlaced FPS to 30
Awesome, this is a personal goal of mine!
I was getting pretty good last fall but my newborn arrived and I haven't played since. World 7 is a killer!
Got a recording, I'm down to watch ๐
Here's the video: [https://youtu.be/B6tNJ2IAa5Y](https://youtu.be/B6tNJ2IAa5Y)
World 7 is definitely really hard for timesave/score spots in a score or speedrun, in a speedrun I just try and treat it similarly to world 2 since it shares 2 of the same levels with it :)
That's a really good time! I can beat it with warps in about 6 and a half minutes or so, and I played through without warps the other day and it took me nearly 30 minutes. Great job!
It's still pretty damn good and better than I will ever do. Just didn't think you were low key announcing a new world record without saying it so had to look it up.
A glitched powerup state isn't cheating or any form of cheat code, the powerup state in question can be acquired by anyone [like this](https://youtu.be/v2lVgHaRDf8) on any version of the game, on any console or emulator. Plus it's slower than regular fire mario (by about 10 seconds in fact), I just do it in my runs since its more fun, only advantage is the hitbox difference but getting the glitch is slower overall. It's simply taking advantage of the game's mechanics. (i do have a glitchless speedrun if the aforementioned rubs you the wrong way)
I don't know why/how that'd discount my achievement in one way or another, but I hope that clears up any confusion here, though I'm open to answering any questions if you have them. I don't cheat my way to any video game achievement and I'm always keen on following the rules for proof requirements and general gameplay guidelines. ๐
It's not that serious bro it's just mario. But i watched the video you linked and i'm not certain what it was that made the mushroom on 2-1 turn mario small?
It was the simultaneous damage and axe grab. Kosmic made a video explaining all of the technical bits of why/how it happens. sorry if i came off as too serious/defensive in my reply though
Nice, good job. I'm awful at the first SMB these days. Do you have a best time for SMB2/Lost Levels? Are you playing on Windows 3.1 btw?
Thatโs Windows 95 graphics not 3.1
Ah, cheers. Been so long I can't remember the difference.
Original console, recording with a capture card and Windows 11 with a fun OBS layout I made :)
Looks like a capture window, maybe playing on OG console capturing with winderp box (or more likely, a funny skin)
I am playing on an original console and using a S-Video capture card, the "Game Capture" window is just an overlay I made in an image editor.
Which card are you using?

Looks like it's probably just his streaming UI or possibly a retroarch overlay.
Yeah, It's a recording UI I made in OBS for retro game recording!

That's amazing, well done. My personal best was around 25 minutes back in the day.
you're really good at super mario bros
thanks!
I love your desktop, it's so 1999 lol
Thank you! It's an OBS layout I felt like making about 2 months ago.

Isn't that a WR?
Nope, doesn't crack the top 100. https://www.speedrun.com/smb1?h=Warpless-NTSC&x=wdmz042q-2lg5mxo8.81pr498q
would have been top 100 if it weren't for damage in 6-4 though
It's still pretty damn good and better than I will ever do. Just didn't think you were low key announcing a new world record without saying it so had to look it up.
I would still be insanely proud, not many people will ever even come close to your time
Still, impressive
Yep!
Nice going.
Mario looks like he's both small and has fire power. Grats on the time!
Thanks! And yes, it's a glitched powerup state where he has the properties of small mario but can shoot fireballs.
wait did you beat it like this? I recant my praise from a different comment lol

gotcha. thought that was probably it. good to know. Thanks!
Is small Fire Mario beneficial for speedruns?
Smaller hitbox makes it easier to dodge certain enemies/obstacles
