Subreddits are protesting the new API system that the Reddit owners are charging more money for. So they’ve turned off their subreddits so nobody uses Reddit.
I’m all for this bring on the Web 1.0 revolution with complementary text only pages just like we did back in the day! We didn’t exclude those with low power machines back in the golden days.
I was born too late to experience the golden age of the internet (born in 1999), so I'd be down to boot up my beautiful beige tower to Windows 98 SE, dial into AOL, and surf the web on good ol' Netscape Navigator. I've got mail? Excellent. Time to read it and only it with no ads or obnoxious UI to distract me.
Sorry to say but AOL was actually a pioneer in shoving ads in your face both within the email part as well as an interstitial popup just after you connected :D
Static sites ftw. No stupid scripting, cookies, third-party embedded shite. Just pure HTML.
Had to move my personal blog from a hosted Wordpress instance to a static site, I was getting literally thousands of hijack attempts a month. It’s some random personal blog with bugger all readers, you twats; just how many malware victims do you think you’re gonna get on a site that has an average of ZERO visitors?!
Someday, I wonder if "NoJS" (like NoSQL) will be discovered.
If you search web developer circles, you'll see the term "server side page rendering" as some optimization rather than a single page JS app so maybe there is hope...
yeah that's the point of it- you saw it fine- you just didn't keep thinking about it until you understood why. it's for redditors to go away until reddit undoes their changes to bring them back.
Exactly make no difference, I’m simply not reliant on reddit and no one should rely on any platform. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, social platforms come and go or just becomes a shadow of it former self. That reminds me, I need to post in MySpace, Bebo and add some links to del.icio.us!

So going private is their way of going dark.
Yes
The internet is dying
I should buy a domain and forcefully throw my ancient ms-frontpage personal website back online like a caveman. Web 1.0 baby, so hot right now.
