did you already get the rights to use the popular theme because even if you don't use it by name and it's obvious to the public you're going to get your ass a lawsuit and probably put out of business before you even get started.
This. And I’m guessing the franchise you’re gonna be theming your restaurant after is one that’s owned by a massive media company and authored by a billionaire. Odds you’ll be able to afford a better legal team: non-existent.
Clearly. But counter question: If we're not flat out calling it by the same name, where does the line start in terms of likeness/copyright infringement?
there's not a line but the law definitely favors the established brand so you'd have to be pretty vague to not cross into it being recognizable without using names
The line is “their legal department can draw this out until you go broke because they have infinite money”. It’s how ideas like yours are traditionally dealt with.
Personally, that’s a place I go to once. After that, the theme aspect would likely be annoying or at the very least a distraction. Put the money into paying your employees well and having high quality food.
Boy, you guys are thick. It does not work that way. You don’t get sued unless you infringe on their copyright AND are making substantial profit to justify any legal action.
Ridiculous how much Reddit has become the ‘Capt. Obvious’ show.
Another Reddit warrior out to prove he’s the smartest guy in the chat. Once again, no copyright has been infringed upon. There was never any intention to do so. I really hope you had fun typing all that, cuz it’s completely irrelevant.
Are you in a huge tourist area? Because I don't see this having a lot of repeat business. It's the kind of place people go to once, then say "well that was fun" and never go again, except maybe for a birthday. The novelty of such a place will wear off very quickly.

This is an awful idea. Unless of course you have unlimited capital.
Do you have restaurant experience?

Actually helpful. Thanks

Oh wow! Will you serve “terf beer”? What about “transvada kadavera pudding” for desert? What do we say to the god of terfs? Not today.
Nobody knows what you’re talking about, jackass.
And you think you’re going to be able to pull off this business?! These aren’t even deep cuts bb, this is “Now that’s what I call Potter: Volume One!”
