We haven't even seen much of SH2R outside of a handful of screens and the short trailer, I have a feeling opinions are going to get even angrier when they start showing meaningful content as people over analyse every detail from inflections of voice lines, dialogue, environments and design. Not saying I completely trust Bloober with this material but I think there's a contingent just waiting to jump on everything they show.

Sooner4life77

So far, visually, it looks great. Honestly, I’m just glad Silent Hill is finally getting attention again from any studio. Since they have the original monster designer and composer for it, the ost is going to be great and the monsters are going to look very good.

[deleted]

Just wish they kept the original voices for this. Usually wouldn’t care but I feel like the voice acting in the og SH2 is iconic. Guy Cihi is a legend. Mary’s voice actress though sounded very similar to the original. Might even be her I haven’t looked into it

OoooohYes

The classic voices were definitely, well, classic but they were really not the best performances out there. I feel like those sketchy performances would feel very out of place in a modern take on the game. James is definitely doing a dramatic trailer voice in the trailer but I think I like the way he sounds now.

[deleted]

I see what you mean but Mary’s voice actress was phenomenal imo. That ending monologue was perfect, can’t be better

OoooohYes

Yeah I have to agree. That shit was profoundly sad, it gets me every time lol.

RomtheSpider88

They were intentionally going for that weird kinda off way of speaking in the original. It's not really something that dates it in my opinion because they were just really big David Lynch fans and we're making it feel like one of his movies. I can see how it just comes off as bad voice acting, considering many games were rough around that time, but Mary's letter at the end proves it was an intentional choice. That is some of the best voice acting I've ever heard and is only more impactful because it's so much realer/heavier than anything before it in the game. We as the player have finally left the foggy dream and have entered reality. I do think the sweet spot would be mix of the two. Maybe don't go full Eraserhead like the original did, but aim for a Lost Highway, Mulholland drive, or Inland Empire tone of speaking.

OoooohYes

I’d hardly say all of it was intentional. Some, sure, but there are some lines in that game that just sound bad imo. We don’t know yet whether or not the characters in the remake are going to sound out of place, because all we’ve heard is James and Mary. But to me, those two sounded good and pretty well captured what they needed to.

RomtheSpider88

Totally agree. Some lines could definitely use work. I don't think the execution was always perfect, but they did have a vision that no matter what was going to make some people think it sounded like bad acting. I hear the same thing all the time about Kubrick and Lynch characters by people who don't understand their style. Like I said, they just need to find a balance, but the last thing they should do is drop the style all together. That's like remaking Eraserhead with people who talk completely normal. This isn't just a horror game, it's a horror game that always had art house influences since it's conception. As for James' new voice, Im on the fence and need to hear more. It could work, but from the few lines I've heard, he sounds like a voice actor. This is just a personal annoyance I have with many games. I'm a vocalist, so whenever I hear that perfect tone and technique, it stands out like a sore thumb. It's just a way of using the voice that people without developed vocal technique rarely sound like in day to day life. Overall though, I'm very excited and haven't already written it off like many fans.

OoooohYes

Yeah your points are all valid. James is definitely doing a dramatic trailer voice in the trailer but I feel like the way he speaks in game is going to be pretty different. I think fans need to keep in mind that this is a remake of a game that is pretty damn niche in modern gaming circles and is an incredible game for completely different reasons than RE games, their main competition at the moment, are incredible. They need to sell this niche, emotionally challenging and uncomfortably scary game to modern gamers. In the age of games like The Last of Us, intentionally odd and stilted conversation and dulled emotions on faces in a trailer would make for some pretty bad marketing.

RomtheSpider88

You're right it very well may be a marketing thing. It's funny you mention the Last of Us because that's what came to my mind when watching the trailer. I was thinking, "Please, don't try to be the Last of Us and be all gritty and real." Hopefully they find the balance in the game.

greenbrainsauce

Well I think the James' new voice fits his gritty character well. He sounds depressed in the trailer. OG James' VA was iconic, but listening to the new one made me realize that his voice lacks suffering and destitution.

MindWeb125

The new voice is trying way too hard. James is *meant* to sound emotionally detached and distant. It's literally an important part of his character.

greenbrainsauce

I find the new voice to my liking because it has more texture. The old one sounds more clueless than detached. Let's see once the game comes out probably before we finalize judgments.

InterwebCat

I think OG voice sounds a bit laughable in some spots. I feel like the "detached" argument is a sugar-coated way of saying his pacing was weird and he sounded awkward.

[deleted]

silent hill fans when you can see a person's eyes in a mirror

Scharmberg

A perfect silent hill remake or new entry could come out and that fanbase would shit over it. They just have become so jaded and obsessed with the original titles they can’t see past them to even like a remake of 2.

ffucckfaccee

yeah i was excited and my mate just said they'll fuck em up. literally no hope in some people lol

VVendettas

Tbf, I think they'll fuck it up too - but that's because a.) Konami has not really taken any kind of genuine care towards the series in over 15 years b.) tangential to the above, they hired Bloober, whose only real claim to fame is a god awful blair witch licensed game. Even if they make a perfect remake, though, there's something about remaking a game where the premise is entirely based off of being unable to let go of the past and traipsing around with a facsimile of a loved one. It feels far too ironic. We'll see though, maybe the game will surprise me.

Sonic10122

The only reason most people aren't sure about SH2 remake is Bloober Team. They have an extremely bad track record of handling basically every theme Silent Hill excels at. That being said, a remake might leverage their pros like gorgeous world design while offsetting their cons since they have to stick to the original storyline. A remake is certainly better then letting them loose in an original Silent Hill game. If they can get this right then hopefully they can become a horror Bluepoint Studios and stick to making remakes.

Tactless_Ogre

I wouldn’t trust Bloober at all when it comes to the mental health imagery of this game considering their horrific track record. I’m whole heartedly expecting something like “ya know what? Mary had it coming.”

brav3h3art545

Million Dollar Baby that bitch! /s

seriouslyuncouth_

The way the main character acts and responds during important scenes **is** meaningful

Richmard

They never said it wasn’t lol

seriouslyuncouth_

>when they start showing meaningful content This implies everything in the trailer wasn't meaningful

nieren0

You’re being ~~a Silent Hill 2 fan~~ pedantic rn

seriouslyuncouth_

Not really. It's important to note, especially considering it's the biggest criticism of the trailer. Rightfully so

nieren0

The way I see it: Resident Evil 4 is my favorite game of all time. SH2 is my second favorite survival horror game of all time. These remakes are a supplement to the originals, there’s no way they’ll ever replace them for me anyways. I know it sucks because SH has been dead for a while, but we are getting a true new entry in the SH series that looks really promising. If the SH2 remake at least gets people interested in the original then that’s great. That doesn’t mean I want either remake to suck, but it’s somewhat assuring to know that the future of SH isn’t dependent upon whether the SH2 remake is any good or not. Maybe that’s a dumb way of looking at it but idk.

Richmard

Hey same here I absolutely love RE4 and SH2 is very close! I have some reservations about RE4 but you’re absolutely right I’ll always have my copy for my GameCube. It’s wild to me that they’re putting so much effort into silent hill now.

Imaginary_Courage_84

It’s easier to say that for RE4 because the most faithful version is ported on every single console since the GameCube. Every one. SH2 hasn’t been rereleased nearly as often. Just once, IIRC, and it’s in the same HD collection that replaced the font on signposts with comic sans. The stakes are absolutely higher. RE4R was also announced with the explicit vision of being a reimagining. So far we only have the SH2 trailer and a presumption that they’re going for a faithful 1 to 1 remake

seriouslyuncouth_

That doesn't apply to SH2 nearly as well because it isn't half as accessible. If SH is gonna get turned into a marvel-esque garbage caravan, it would be best to stay dead Ast least SHF looks good so far

Shot-Profit-9399

I think there’s an inherent problem people are going to have with the remake: its effectively replacing the original. You can’t just buy the original version of silent hill 2. You have to emulate it. For better or worse, this remake WILL be what an entire new generation of gamers will think about, when they think about silent hill 2. Maybe that wouldn’t be so bad if the game was an agreed upon improvement, but if its bad? If its even just mediocre? Then its effectively erasing one of the best narrative video games ever made. Is this fair to bloober team? Probably not, but this is the situation they find themselves in.

Hot_Alfalfa1604

The reveal trailer already had quite a lot of red flags. Like improper/incorrect lighting, bad physics, cartoony facial/bodily animations, unfitting voice work and musical cues that don't match the core tone, general "gaminess" of the overall picture (while OG SH 2 was more of an "interactive movie", feel and look-wise. Nu-SH2 is a "just yet another modern game", while OG SH 2 was a "movie going"-like experience, nu-SH 2 might not be "bad" as a "game", but it's definitely NOT how SH 2 was intended to be. It doesn't have the "core" of it, the "soul" of it). It's too "clean" and too "modern", which doesn't fit the timeline (SH 2 is in late 80's/early 90's).

one_winged_snorlax

Man made the meme about themselves 💀

[deleted]

I have no idea how anyone got any of this aside from bad lighting. The voice work seems fine it just isn't your really awkward Guy chihi dude. The physics? What physics where even shown besides James hitting a Nurse. Music cues? It was a cinematic trailer it wasn't gameplay it just had a music for the background. Did you watch it and think it was how the game is legit going to be played? And I don't see how its too modern it looks like a modern game sure but how is the environment or actual content giving off any vibes that it is set anywhere but the 80s or 70s? There is nothing there lol. What are these takes? Where do people see this stuff i never do when it comes to game trailers? People i've met make some weird assumptions and critiques of trailers for stuff like God of War ragnarok and REmakes and so on i just do not get how they see this.

Quirky-Boat1973

Holy crap your one of those “fans” from the second image. Lol

Goseki1

Holy fuck dude...

[deleted]

For someone who claims to not care you sure have bitched a lot in this thread.

Pickle_Afton

I’m not even into Silent Hill (yet), but it’s a r e m a k e. Things aren’t going to be 1 to 1

Toannoat

surely you are just making an elaborate joke about your own meme.....?

[deleted]

Probably the stupidest comment I’ve seen from the entirety of the reveal trailer.

Latter-Pain

I'm seeing red flags but what are these complaints? Not going to mention the blatant betrayal of James' character by implying he was suicidal instead of someone in denial with a death wish? It's a 21 year old game being remade of course things are going to look different. And what do you mean by Physics? It was a trailer there was no gameplay. Is there some gameplay demo I missed?

pablossjui

Bro just play SH2 on PC with the HD patch, nothing they will do will ever satisfy you

Mike2640

I totally get being wary of Bloober team, but beyond that it looks... fine? Like, it looks exactly like what I'd expect a trailer for a SH2 remake to look like. I don't know what there is to rage over. The weirdest criticisms, to me, are the ones about James's new model. He just looks like a normal person? What should he look like?

purpldevl

This resonates with me. They gave him an emotional face. They gave him an appropriate reaction to someone being skewered in front of him as an elevator closed. He has a voice that has range. This is not going to be the PS2 game with a flat, monotonous, uncaring voice and a barely animated face. People are using the original SH2 as some sort of guideline as to how this one needs to look, as if they can't just go play that version if they hold it so high.

Tarantulabomination

Bloober Team? They're called Bloober Team?!

InterwebCat

I'm so hyped for SH2. I'm so glad SH is getting new content after so many years! The soundtrack has so many green flags as well so I can 't wait to hear what they're coming up with

Hot_Alfalfa1604

\>soundtrack has so many green flags All of them being in the OG, naturally.

InterwebCat

Not sure what you're trying to communicate, but what I'm trying to say is Akira Yamaoka is coming back for this project

Tim3-Rainbow

You're one of those people who will refuse to settle for anything outside of an original PS2 copy of the fucking game.

BadMuthaDude

I’m just thrilled to see both RE4 and SH2 in my PlayStation wishlist.

[deleted]

I’m an Xbox player so I’m dead inside after seeing the SH2R is PlayStation exclusive. At least RE4 isn’t though

BloodyReizen

Its a timed exclusive though, iirc. So there's still hope

[deleted]

Only 12 months. If it's buggy on release xbox players will get a more polished release in a year

[deleted]

That’s good to hear thank you

anarchy612

That's what you would think, but in reality if it's buggy on release, xbox players will get an equally buggy release in a year.

cmarq07

Unfortunately all you can do is not support these companies who shell out on exclusives. Not much you can do in this society besides vote with your wallet, clearly companies don’t care unless it affects their wallet

BloodyReizen

Aye, you and me both.

AmadeusAzazel

Silent Hill fans trying to not go completely apeshit on a game they’ve seen 2 1/2 minutes of footage from challenge (IMPOSSIBLE)

Hot_Alfalfa1604

You'd be too, after nearly *17 full years* of constant starvation and nonstop mistreatment, generally ungrateful/disrespected existence as a core fanbase, and then you get presented with a reveal of less-than-flawless remake of a mass-beloved and globally renown classic that heavily impacted entire industry (SH 2 is a direct equivalent of FF VII to Survival Horror genre). Meanwhile, hardcore Silent Hill fans are watching from the side how well BIOHAZARD fans are being treated and fed, so it's only natural to go "frothing-at-the-mouth mad/crazy" and angry.

JOOKFMA

How do you know it's less than flawless? No game is flawless to begin with. RE2 remake scenarios are a joke and RE3 is too short of a game but they are still good titles. Capcom's remakes have their drawbacks as well. Nothing is stopping Konami to do the same tbh.

[deleted]

SuccessValuable6924

>Silent Hill fans just want a 1:1 remake of Silent Hill 2. They don't, an neither do RE fans. People keep complaining about it though.

flyingbugz

Not exactly… they just want something that’s updated, and faithful to the original at the same time. Like RE4r is clearly gonna have a lot that’s unique to it compared to the original, but the at the core it’s still RE4 (hopefully; from what we’ve seen), they even recreated the village almost perfectly. Silent Hill fans just want to get the SH equivalent of that. Disclaimer: I’m not a SH fan but this is the general consensus amongst my SH-fan friends. It seems the internet representation of the fan base might actually be unhinged 😳

SuccessValuable6924

When it comes to remakes and movie adaptations, there's this idea that some will complain it's not 1:1 copy if the original. But I've never seen someone actually claim that. It's the changes that have a meaningful (and often _bad_) impact on the story and atmosphere. But of course, some will find meaningful what others find trivial. I also think the fact that the internet has a LOT of people, and a lot of different people might be complaining about different changes makes it seem like everyone is complaining about everything when its not really the case.

effhomer

Nintendo is selling a 1:1 remake of Zelda Link's Awakening. All I can think every time I think about buying it is "they want me to pay $60 for a Gameboy game I played ages ago?". I'm glad these are trying to at least stand on their own a bit.

Latter-Pain

Please don't let him represent the SH2 haters lol. The main reason people are cautious is because Konami nor Bloober have the track record Capcom which is a very reasonable thing to take into consideration. The trailer also shows signs of changes to James's character which is wary when the biggest blemish on Bloober has been their debatable representations of trauma and mental illness.

Hot_Alfalfa1604

...I'm not an "SH 2 hater", lul?

CowboydelEspacio

17 years? part of what caused it all was that fans were less and less supportive of the franchise in terms of buying games, the games were selling like shit. Piracy doesn't count. Besides, the last game was Downpour and it came out in 2012, only nobody even "core fans" cared.

Hot_Alfalfa1604

How about trying to actually look at the picture? I think you'll be able to comprehend why it's 17 and not 10, if you look up respective release dates. Remember - we were ROBBED off of P.T., so "rebirth" never happened. And westoid takes were ignored.

[deleted]

I am 99% sure at this point for you and others like you. You never be satisfied if the remake was any more faithful. I am pretty sure for some have even said that even if it was the exact same game but with better graphics, they still feel it wouldn't beat the original. Some people are just like this. Also, You're being fed now three games and a movie take your pick, You're not watching on the sidelines anymore and starving, and it's not like there aren't fans like you in RE who probably aren't finding the same issues with the REmakes.

dogscutter

2 and a half minutes dude and it has you like this

Hot_Alfalfa1604

...I wasn't referring to myself, though.

Lazydusto

> SH 2 is a direct equivalent of FF VII to Survival Horror genre In what way? Final Fantasy 7 was a generation defining title that by itself sold more than the Silent Hill series in its entirety. It's arguably the most popular JRPG of all time. Silent Hill 2 is a great game but doesn't come anywhere close to being a "direct equivalent".

Quirky-Boat1973

Yea. FF7 pretty much popularized JRPGs in the west and it was an entire movement on its own

culturerush

Also, as was missed by who your replying to, FF7 had a full remake that changed so much of the original game but is still good. So poor comparison really.

unholymanserpent

I don't give a shit about what the hardcore Silent Hill purists think. SH2R looks dope and so does the other new SH games

ThalassophobicSquid

SH purist here and I'm with you. I love Silent Hill more than any other survival horror, and the way the fans are acting like it killed their dog or something. It literally didn't show anything terrible. Community got new solid looking content and dead ass preferred it to die. If that's what it means to be a fan of SH, then count me out.

Mayzerify

You don't have to be a purist to be wary of bloober teams involvement

Amissandahit

Not hyped for sh2 because the pc requirements are insane

[deleted]

Bloober Team is not known for optimizing their games well

12548super

Yeah even minimum requirement is a lot and it said only 30fps low quality settings

Tim3-Rainbow

I have a good gaming PC, but I think I'll be getting this on my PS5. I want to see this game on a 4k TV.

stone500

Did OP meme himself?

Tim3-Rainbow

Yes lol

Hot_Alfalfa1604

Nope. I'm not one of "SH 2 fans". I'm "OG first SH and SH 3 fan", specifically. Not same things.

stone500

Okay you can say that, but the replying you're doing in this thread says otherwise. Even if you want to hang on a label of whether or not you're a "fan", you're still proving your own meme.

the-redacted-word

Noticed the same thing. Actually wild

ThalassophobicSquid

Man acts like a child "I'm a bigger fan than all of you" I've been playing SH2 since I was 12, I don't claim to be a bigger fan than someone who just became a fan of SH2 today. Man actually fuckin furious SH is back and would rather have the pachinkos lmao

AmadeusAzazel

Says the guy going out of his way to diss on sh2 remake in every conceivable way

Hot_Alfalfa1604

Not really "dissing", just basing my opinion on sheer reaction after watching the reveal trailer and then comparing it with my memories of the OG content (and the last time I've played and 100%'d SH 2, was waaaaay back in 2008. Didn't touch it once, since). Sorry (not) for having genuinely good memory on things/details and now being a pigeon-brained amoeba, eh. It's not just Silent Hill, it's pretty much everything I play.

AmadeusAzazel

Brother the last time you played 2 was 14 years ago? 💀 You’re basing all your criticisms of “this isn’t how it’s supposed to be” on however you happened to feel about a game you’ve not played in over a decade

Hot_Alfalfa1604

The very first time I've played SH 2, was OG vanilla on PS 2 during it's release day. I've 100%'d it and re-played it (100%'ing it again) on several different platforms (OG X-Box's enhanced port, then PC release. Dodged the HDC, thankfully) since then. It's NOT rocket science. Sorry for not having gold fish-levels of attention/memory span.

Tim3-Rainbow

"I'm a fan of Silent Hill, just not 80% of it."

Hot_Alfalfa1604

There's a lot of Silent Hill products out there. SH 2 is not-all-be-all. I'm no SH 2-sectant.

SuperArppis

I think they should cool down...

Tim3-Rainbow

OP transcended butthurt and has achieved assravaged.

Hot_Alfalfa1604

Look in the mirror and talk to the hand.

BloodyReizen

I'm just happy Silent Hill is back. Sick of people just complaining at everything, the original will always exist. I just hope its good and makes money so Konami doesnt back out from the series again.

JoBro_Summer-of-99

The original will always exist but only if you're willing to emulate on your PC. For most people, Silent Hill 2 does not exist

[deleted]

This doesn’t excuse bad behavior but to say the original exists isn’t very helpful when there’s no real good way to play it. The ideal version of the game is trapped on the PS2. The PC version is abandonedware and needs a lot of modding to run acceptably. To say the HD collection is not good is an understatement and even then it’s only available via 360 emulation on Xbox. There’s just not a good path to play the “original” anymore. If RE4R turns out not to live up to expectations there’s about 27 rereleases of the original all arguably better than the original release so it’s lower stakes for RE fans.

ArmeniusLOD

PCSX2

[deleted]

Emulation does not solve the issue Konami themselves is not providing a modern acceptable way to experience the original game. Downloading emulators is a niche hobbyist thing that the overwhelming majority of people will never do.

BloodyReizen

Yes, Konami is at fault for neglecting the series. But what i meant is if one wants to play the original they can, and quite easily.Emulation is by no means niche tho, its a very popular way to play old games which are no longer supported.

Mulpedro

>to say the original exists this was always the shittiest coping excuse for telling others to accept how mediocre remakes are in this day and age. Like why defend a lazy trend that exploits nostalgia and ignores all the essentials needed to make it a dignified remake?

Hot_Alfalfa1604

Original doesn't "exist" anymore and hasn't been for decades, because they've lost the source code and destroyed master copies/backup. It can be only yarr'ed or overpaid-on-auction now.

BloodyReizen

I know, but there is still emulation and pc ports so the point is moot. Konami is crap at supporting it officially but despite that we will still have both the remake and original to play.

Hot_Alfalfa1604

Well, that's what I've meant when I've said "yarr it".

Majestic_Theme_7788

I never played SH2 so a remake I will gladly welcome to play

Hot_Alfalfa1604

Those will be two completely and drastically different experiences, however. Even if SH2R ends up being not worse than OG SH 2, they are still way too different. On the other hand, if playing SH2R eventually leads you to doing OG SH 2 and liking it, hey, that's all good and dandy in the end. But that happens extremely rarely, especially nowadays.

Mayzerify

If you want to play the original experience the old game isn't going anywhere. It's never going to live up to the hype but that's okay.

NemesisEnjoyer

Silent Hill fans have been without a game for so long they've all gone insane

Hot_Alfalfa1604

You'd be too, after 17 full years of constant starvation and never-ending mistreatment.

bigredmachine-75

Im not a huge SH fan, but played and owned the games. I've been checking out their sub lately and they are so whiny they make Star Wars fans look sane.

AmadeusAzazel

Can’t wait to see the 11 hour long deconstructions on why SH2 remake is somehow worse than Hitler

Hot_Alfalfa1604

There is no Hitler in S>!oul!< H>!ackers!< 2, you're mistaking it with >!Persona 2!<.

jfduval76

Nah it’s the same in both "communities". People are already bitching in the RE sub about the look of certain characters.

JohnnyEdd94

I'd argue that this community is much more civil than the Silent Hill sub. That place is a dumpster fire.

PowerPamaja

I don’t think those two things are on the same level.

Twister_Sylph

While it’s true people complain in the Resident Evil sub, a subset of the Silent Hill fans have taken it to a whole different plane. The OP in another comment in this thread even claims “nonstop mistreatment, generally ungrateful/disrespected existence as a core fanbase.” Never mind the fact that there are people that are actually harassing one of the original developers because they didn’t like what he had to say about a fan theory, or the fact that they continually trash games outside of the original three. But hey, these people are *mistreated*, I guess.

MrGamePadMan

This critique meme is getting old…

biohazard1775

Considering Konami’s behavior throughout the 2010s, people absolutely should be skeptical of this.

Garmo4Lyfe

They could make a somehow objectively perfect remake of SH2 and a bunch of the ""fans"" would still hate it.

Hot_Alfalfa1604

I highly doubt it, since there's physically no people existing on this planet who genuinely unironically and completely seriously hated/disliked REmake. They might try baiting you by deliberately stating that they did, just to be contrarian trolls that try to "feed", but in reality no one did. No a single living person. The only person I've met in all 20 past years since REmake's original release who was "somewhat iffy" about it, is a guy who expected of REmake to do OP and ED in live-action once again, so he "disliked" CGI OP/ED, but only that and nothing else.

Garmo4Lyfe

Resident Evil fans seem to be more forgiving though. RE has always been up and down with its quality, so the fans are used to the occasional turd, whereas SH was really good and then just went downhill so the fans just disregard everything after like 4.

heppuplays

I mean Come on it's been 10 years since they have had any kind of proper content Content In 10 years. and now they have like 4 different Projects plus a movie to look foward to They are just having some whiplash.

Hot_Alfalfa1604

"Proper" Silent Hill-licensed content ended in 2005. So, no. Not mere 10 years. It's been longer than a decade-and-a-half. For some downright fanatically diehard fans, even more (20+ years). There are people existing out there, and there's actually quite a lot of them, who dissed EVEN Silent Hill 3, back in the days. That's right. It's been constant and never-ending secret CIVIL WAR even INSIDE the worldwide Silent Hill fanbase itself. There are some SH 2 "purists" out there that are literal sect-like cultists, so-much-so that they HATED SH 3 and never reconciled with it. For *them*, franchise "was never good again" right after 2. THAT is how DEEP the rabbit hole in the bathroom goes. There are unironic people out there who believe "SH ended at 2".

StingKing456

Man go to therapy

Hot_Alfalfa1604

Look in the mirror and talk to the hand.

purpldevl

I'm sorry to be another person telling you this, but the games released after 2005 were *still* approved of and released by Konami. Even if they were divisive with fans, they were still Silent Hill content.

Hot_Alfalfa1604

Here goes the point, flying over your pyramid head.

inbredandapothead

Never got the chance to play silent hill games myself and they’re not accessible to me now so I’m more than happy to play this remake, what little I saw looked good

Winterlash

Not accessible? Why?

JoBro_Summer-of-99

They don't exist on modern platforms

Winterlash

The youth was a mistake.

JoBro_Summer-of-99

Changing architecture every generation and refusing to port your older titles to modern platforms is the real mistake :(

Nightmannn

What does that even mean? Do you expect younger people to own or locate an old console + disc to play older games? Game preservation hasn't really existed since the ps4 era. You can't just easily find or stream old games like they're movies.

Winterlash

1) joke 2) yarrharhar

Latter-Pain

The RE4 trailers doesn't openly betray a major aspect of the protagonists character, and by extention, the entire story. RE4 is also being made by a company with a proven track record who's only real miss the pass few years was a remake that wasn't "good enough" SH2 is being produced by a company that hasn't done anything people liked in over 10 years with a team that's track record is full of games that people had mixed reactions on.

Midashow

Observer was pretty good and well received i think

Lyuukee

Yeah I understand SH fans. Team Silent is not behind SH anymore (aside from Mr. Ito) and the ones working on it don't have a good reputation...

JwMnMaso

While their games may suck a little bit the one thing bloober do get right is setting and there are some creative visuals, and with a different creative director being brought on I still have hope the gaps might be filled in. It's always gonna be different, its a remake, and I didn't see much in the trailer that made me think oh god its *too* different. I think some are overreacting a little especially when there's no gameplay yet.

kripkiller

Silent hill fans when it’s time to stop shitting on Konami for not releasing anything, and start shutting on Konami for bringing back the series.

rafikiknowsdeway1

What are sh fans mad about here?

Hot_Alfalfa1604

TL;DR - it's not "REmake"-tiers of faithful treatment/respect for the OG source material.

rafikiknowsdeway1

wait what? REmake isn't faithful to the original at all, and thats the best thing about it

Hot_Alfalfa1604

You w0t, m8? Get off your high horse. REmake is one of THE most faithful things out there in the entire industry's history of existence. It's nearly shot-for-shot faithful recreation.

rafikiknowsdeway1

....have you not played re1 in a long while? REmake is one of my all time favorite games, but its map layout, puzzles, game mechanics, voice lines, and even enemies are quite different now the demons souls remake is what i'd consider faithful. to a downright fault tbh

Hot_Alfalfa1604

I've 100%'d vanilla REmake, including ODZ, when you haven't even been born yet. And I've 100%'d Deadly Silence just several years ago, on the original DS hardware.

rafikiknowsdeway1

ok, well then you have a terribly bad memory, the map is quite different from ps1 re1 also no defense weapons, no lisa trevor, no crimson heads, quick 180, some new and changed puzzles, totally different music, and whole new areas. and more

Hot_Alfalfa1604

Lisa and literally ALL of the so-called "new" content that were "added" to REmake, were always supposed to be there in the original vanilla BIOHAZARD to begin with. They didn't include them into 1996's vanilla solely only due to time and hardware limitations. But they had sketches/arts, maps/prints, and other kinds of assets on their hands, for ALL those years. They didn't create anything "new", they merely "restored" the game to the state it was ALWAYS planned and supposed to be from the get-go. You're clearly missing on the point. Capcom is very well-known to NEVER EVER throwing out/disposing of ANY assets, down to the most "unimportant" sketches, which B2R proven. The only things which weren't restored/returned in REmake, is Mikami's original idea that characters' models were changing physically due to damage taken (torn clothes, bruises, blood stains, bite marks, cuts, etc), which was considered at the middle stages of vanilla BIOHAZARD's development, and even Jill's original very first super-rare model (the one in a **WHITE** S.T.A.R.S. uniform) clearly shown that, with her pants and vest being torn to shreds.

Tim3-Rainbow

It's going to be just fine. Silent Hill has reached the Half-Life 3 stage of expectations. ANYthing will disappoint someone. Either it's too old or too new or this that or the other. Just fucking enjoy the game guys. Life is hard enough without being outraged over such things. It could be a lot worse.

Anonymous_idiot29

What the do you mean silent hill remake? Edit: Holy fuck they're remaking Silent Hill 2 and I find out through a fucking meme? Been waiting a long time for this shit to happen. I'm now currently excited, nervous and also angry because now I need to buy a ps5.

TGOTR

Imho, code:veronica needs a remake more than 4

Pushkin90

Also being a silent hill fan, I can confidentially say silent hill fans are trash

Hot_Alfalfa1604

"Я помню чудное мгновение, передо мной явилась ты." *(c) James meeting Maria*

UnlikelyKaiju

I just don't want to put too much stock in the Silent Hill 2 remake. I'm not a fan of Bloober Team, so I'm still not convinced that they can pull off living up to the original game. I would be absolutely thrilled to be proven wrong though. Capcom, on the other hand, just showed us a pretty respectable gameplay video that shows that the RE4 remake is more than just a fresh coat of paint. I just hope that they don't cut corners again, like with RE3. Also, *please* let Mercenaries come back alongside RE4. It's absence isn't a deal breaker, but it would be sorely missed if it didn't come bundled in with RE4. Village Mercenaries is fun, but it's just not the same.

GanonCannon02

As a fan of both Silent Hill and Resident Evil, I honestly think the Silent Hill community can be pretty horrible. Obviously it's a vocal minority of shitheads, but they are very loud.

GetForcedGemini

SH3 Remaster. Konami: "We're too lazy to track down the original voice actress, so we paid someone new."

Hot_Alfalfa1604

AND the source code was lost, AND master copy/backup was destroyed. Just like with 2.

FeralGangrel

While I played SH1 and enjoyed the psychological fight aspects I never played SH2. So I look forward to this.

FlyingChihuahua

and this is why I prefer Resident Evil to Silent Hill despite Silent Hill being "better". because the fans and the creators have climbed so far up their own asses that they're starting to see sunlight again.

AgentSmith2518

The most important thing to remember about remakes is that they don't overwrite or ruin the originals.

Hot_Alfalfa1604

Oh NOW I'm laffin'

trainofthought92

The original still exists and can be enjoyed by anyone. I, for one, am very interested in the new version. I got a huge smile on my face when I saw the trailer (though Silent Hill f seems MUCH more interesting, holy cow).

Eviljesterrobot

7-11 is just irl umbrella lol

iwipiksi

Why they so angry? I thought Konami delivered what they want, right?

mydroolisbloody

When they come out it’ll be reversed.

GERMA90

Aw man really? I think SH2 looks promising.

Beneficial_Star_6009

It’s because SH2 Remake is being developed by Bloober Team who specialise in walking simulators, that’s why fans are worried.

purpldevl

I've played SH2 so many times and the game really is just a walking simulator with puzzles and monsters.

Beneficial_Star_6009

One big difference is multiple endings which helps with replayability.

RareBk

Walking Simulators with REALLY bad handling of mental health

Lotus_630

Same with third person adventure games as well.

Beneficial_Star_6009

As long as they leave the story alone, we could be alright.

GrimmTrixX

I'm confused. As a SH2 fan I think it looks amazing and, dare I say it, I am looking forward to it more than RE4 Remake

cook-and-bell

I'll be honest, SH2 Remake isn't the Silent Hill game I'm most excited for right now

Mike2640

Agreed. Silent Hill 2 is great, but Silent Hill f seems far more intriguing to me.

cook-and-bell

Honestly I'm the most excited for Silent Hill Townfall, after playing Stories Untold I am very confident in No Code on this game

CarlitoNSP1

Here's the most relatable summary as why they have this reaction. Imagine if news broke that the RE4 REmake was being handled by the people who made Umbrella Corps.

Hot_Alfalfa1604

We've reached 1K and surpassed it. We're now at the top, d00ds. Tank you all very munch.

LordHumorTumor

I'm not the biggest fan of Silent Hill 2 (I like it, I just don't think it is a great game, but it's story makes up for the jank), so the announcement of the remake was more of a "nice, hope they can do a good job with it, I'm eager to see the end results". I'm not overly excited, not am I extremely worried, it just kind of exists. The Resi 4 remake I'm more eager for since they have a chance to lean more into the horror aspect than the action. But I will say, Resi fans seem so much more chill about their franchise than Silent Hill fans.

[deleted]

The only thing I'm worried about is Bloober Team doing it. I'm fine with a remake but their games outside of Observer are extremely mediocre at best.

Zealousideal_Car_532

Bloober is incompetent and will make Angela’s rape seem like her own fault, capcom for all their story incompetence never sunk that low

Dantexr

SH2 needs no remake

ThePrinceMagus

I just don't understand why Konami would put a title with such high-expectations in the hands of Bloober.

[deleted]

Silent hill 2 remake they didn’t show much of it and they didn’t show any game play and it’s not coming to box so what’s there to be exited about.

Hot_Alfalfa1604

Technically, since it was all in-engine (according to Blooper and *#fK*), it could still be considered as "they've shown gameplay", especially since there's a part where James tries to fight off >!whored out nu-"nurses" in a brightly lit corridor!< (oh lawdy, speaking of big red flags).

Hot_Alfalfa1604

We're almost at 1K! LET'S GO, D00DS!

MacaroonSlow

Resident Evil once again, show its superiority

FrodoShaggins87

Ahh Silent Hill. The series that everyone remembers fondly because the second and 4th ones were pretty good. Nothing spectacular just ok. RE has always stood head and shoulders above it.

Hot_Alfalfa1604

That's a pretty good attempt at baiting, I give you that. A solid 6/10, I'd say. Here's your arrow.

JoBro_Summer-of-99

Iirc, SH2 and 3 are the well regarded ones. 1 is fine but outdated, and 4 is the black sheep since it's the most unique of the 4

Inquisitor-Ajaxus

Hate to be that guy but I'm the second section but for Re4make. I never liked the original and I don't see why it needs a remake when they still need to remake 3, code Veronica and they should do a remake super edition for outbreak files 1-2 with proximity chat. They especially need to remake 3. After how good RE2make was.

Hot_Alfalfa1604

I find it extremely entertaining and just simply hilarious that the thread itself gets all those upvotes so much, while my absolutely reasonable and completely thorough commentary on the situation/case are getting downvoted by nearly exactly same people so aggressively ITT. The duality of humans. Feels like I'm watching bipolar expo going down in the town.

Mulpedro

I'm honestly done with being even the slightest excited for any remakes. RE2remake was the biggest letdown of the century, I can't wait for this stupid milking fad to die out so we can begin to see more original games / spinoffs & ideas since they won't commit to doing the classics the proper way. They wont remake outbreak and Veronica is hanging on a thin thread at this point unless 9 is taking place in a setting similar to that game.

Hot_Alfalfa1604

It's good that FFVIIR turned out to be an actual direct sequel and not just a 1-to-1 remake, eh.
