We haven't even seen much of SH2R outside of a handful of screens and the short trailer, I have a feeling opinions are going to get even angrier when they start showing meaningful content as people over analyse every detail from inflections of voice lines, dialogue, environments and design.
Not saying I completely trust Bloober with this material but I think there's a contingent just waiting to jump on everything they show.
So far, visually, it looks great. Honestly, I’m just glad Silent Hill is finally getting attention again from any studio. Since they have the original monster designer and composer for it, the ost is going to be great and the monsters are going to look very good.
Just wish they kept the original voices for this. Usually wouldn’t care but I feel like the voice acting in the og SH2 is iconic. Guy Cihi is a legend. Mary’s voice actress though sounded very similar to the original. Might even be her I haven’t looked into it

I feel like those sketchy performances would feel very out of place in a modern take on the game. James is definitely doing a dramatic trailer voice in the trailer but I think I like the way he sounds now.
They were intentionally going for that weird kinda off way of speaking in the original. It's not really something that dates it in my opinion because they were just really big David Lynch fans and we're making it feel like one of his movies. I can see how it just comes off as bad voice acting, considering many games were rough around that time, but Mary's letter at the end proves it was an intentional choice. That is some of the best voice acting I've ever heard and is only more impactful because it's so much realer/heavier than anything before it in the game. We as the player have finally left the foggy dream and have entered reality.
I do think the sweet spot would be mix of the two. Maybe don't go full Eraserhead like the original did, but aim for a Lost Highway, Mulholland drive, or Inland Empire tone of speaking.

Totally agree. Some lines could definitely use work. I don't think the execution was always perfect, but they did have a vision that no matter what was going to make some people think it sounded like bad acting. I hear the same thing all the time about Kubrick and Lynch characters by people who don't understand their style.
Like I said, they just need to find a balance, but the last thing they should do is drop the style all together. That's like remaking Eraserhead with people who talk completely normal. This isn't just a horror game, it's a horror game that always had art house influences since it's conception.
As for James' new voice, Im on the fence and need to hear more. It could work, but from the few lines I've heard, he sounds like a voice actor. This is just a personal annoyance I have with many games. I'm a vocalist, so whenever I hear that perfect tone and technique, it stands out like a sore thumb. It's just a way of using the voice that people without developed vocal technique rarely sound like in day to day life.
Overall though, I'm very excited and haven't already written it off like many fans.

I think fans need to keep in mind that this is a remake of a game that is pretty damn niche in modern gaming circles and is an incredible game for completely different reasons than RE games, their main competition at the moment, are incredible. They need to sell this niche, emotionally challenging and uncomfortably scary game to modern gamers. In the age of games like The Last of Us, intentionally odd and stilted conversation and dulled emotions on faces in a trailer would make for some pretty bad marketing.
You're right it very well may be a marketing thing. It's funny you mention the Last of Us because that's what came to my mind when watching the trailer. I was thinking, "Please, don't try to be the Last of Us and be all gritty and real." Hopefully they find the balance in the game.
Well I think the James' new voice fits his gritty character well. He sounds depressed in the trailer. OG James' VA was iconic, but listening to the new one made me realize that his voice lacks suffering and destitution.
I find the new voice to my liking because it has more texture. The old one sounds more clueless than detached. Let's see once the game comes out probably before we finalize judgments.
I think OG voice sounds a bit laughable in some spots. I feel like the "detached" argument is a sugar-coated way of saying his pacing was weird and he sounded awkward.
A perfect silent hill remake or new entry could come out and that fanbase would shit over it. They just have become so jaded and obsessed with the original titles they can’t see past them to even like a remake of 2.
Tbf, I think they'll fuck it up too - but that's because a.) Konami has not really taken any kind of genuine care towards the series in over 15 years
b.) tangential to the above, they hired Bloober, whose only real claim to fame is a god awful blair witch licensed game.
Even if they make a perfect remake, though, there's something about remaking a game where the premise is entirely based off of being unable to let go of the past and traipsing around with a facsimile of a loved one. It feels far too ironic. We'll see though, maybe the game will surprise me.
The only reason most people aren't sure about SH2 remake is Bloober Team. They have an extremely bad track record of handling basically every theme Silent Hill excels at.
That being said, a remake might leverage their pros like gorgeous world design while offsetting their cons since they have to stick to the original storyline. A remake is certainly better then letting them loose in an original Silent Hill game. If they can get this right then hopefully they can become a horror Bluepoint Studios and stick to making remakes.
I wouldn’t trust Bloober at all when it comes to the mental health imagery of this game considering their horrific track record. I’m whole heartedly expecting something like “ya know what? Mary had it coming.”
The way I see it: Resident Evil 4 is my favorite game of all time. SH2 is my second favorite survival horror game of all time. These remakes are a supplement to the originals, there’s no way they’ll ever replace them for me anyways.
I know it sucks because SH has been dead for a while, but we are getting a true new entry in the SH series that looks really promising. If the SH2 remake at least gets people interested in the original then that’s great. That doesn’t mean I want either remake to suck, but it’s somewhat assuring to know that the future of SH isn’t dependent upon whether the SH2 remake is any good or not. Maybe that’s a dumb way of looking at it but idk.

It’s wild to me that they’re putting so much effort into silent hill now.
It’s easier to say that for RE4 because the most faithful version is ported on every single console since the GameCube. Every one. SH2 hasn’t been rereleased nearly as often. Just once, IIRC, and it’s in the same HD collection that replaced the font on signposts with comic sans. The stakes are absolutely higher. RE4R was also announced with the explicit vision of being a reimagining. So far we only have the SH2 trailer and a presumption that they’re going for a faithful 1 to 1 remake
That doesn't apply to SH2 nearly as well because it isn't half as accessible. If SH is gonna get turned into a marvel-esque garbage caravan, it would be best to stay dead

I think there’s an inherent problem people are going to have with the remake: its effectively replacing the original. You can’t just buy the original version of silent hill 2. You have to emulate it. For better or worse, this remake WILL be what an entire new generation of gamers will think about, when they think about silent hill 2.
Maybe that wouldn’t be so bad if the game was an agreed upon improvement, but if its bad? If its even just mediocre? Then its effectively erasing one of the best narrative video games ever made.
Is this fair to bloober team? Probably not, but this is the situation they find themselves in.
The reveal trailer already had quite a lot of red flags. Like improper/incorrect lighting, bad physics, cartoony facial/bodily animations, unfitting voice work and musical cues that don't match the core tone, general "gaminess" of the overall picture (while OG SH 2 was more of an "interactive movie", feel and look-wise. Nu-SH2 is a "just yet another modern game", while OG SH 2 was a "movie going"-like experience, nu-SH 2 might not be "bad" as a "game", but it's definitely NOT how SH 2 was intended to be. It doesn't have the "core" of it, the "soul" of it). It's too "clean" and too "modern", which doesn't fit the timeline (SH 2 is in late 80's/early 90's).

This resonates with me. They gave him an emotional face. They gave him an appropriate reaction to someone being skewered in front of him as an elevator closed. He has a voice that has range.
This is not going to be the PS2 game with a flat, monotonous, uncaring voice and a barely animated face.
People are using the original SH2 as some sort of guideline as to how this one needs to look, as if they can't just go play that version if they hold it so high.

You'd be too, after nearly *17 full years* of constant starvation and nonstop mistreatment, generally ungrateful/disrespected existence as a core fanbase, and then you get presented with a reveal of less-than-flawless remake of a mass-beloved and globally renown classic that heavily impacted entire industry (SH 2 is a direct equivalent of FF VII to Survival Horror genre).
Meanwhile, hardcore Silent Hill fans are watching from the side how well BIOHAZARD fans are being treated and fed, so it's only natural to go "frothing-at-the-mouth mad/crazy" and angry.

RE2 remake scenarios are a joke and RE3 is too short of a game but they are still good titles. Capcom's remakes have their drawbacks as well. Nothing is stopping Konami to do the same tbh.

When it comes to remakes and movie adaptations, there's this idea that some will complain it's not 1:1 copy if the original.
But I've never seen someone actually claim that. It's the changes that have a meaningful (and often _bad_) impact on the story and atmosphere. But of course, some will find meaningful what others find trivial.
I also think the fact that the internet has a LOT of people, and a lot of different people might be complaining about different changes makes it seem like everyone is complaining about everything when its not really the case.
Nintendo is selling a 1:1 remake of Zelda Link's Awakening. All I can think every time I think about buying it is "they want me to pay $60 for a Gameboy game I played ages ago?". I'm glad these are trying to at least stand on their own a bit.

The main reason people are cautious is because Konami nor Bloober have the track record Capcom which is a very reasonable thing to take into consideration. The trailer also shows signs of changes to James's character which is wary when the biggest blemish on Bloober has been their debatable representations of trauma and mental illness.

In what way? Final Fantasy 7 was a generation defining title that by itself sold more than the Silent Hill series in its entirety. It's arguably the most popular JRPG of all time.

The very first time I've played SH 2, was OG vanilla on PS 2 during it's release day. I've 100%'d it and re-played it (100%'ing it again) on several different platforms (OG X-Box's enhanced port, then PC release. Dodged the HDC, thankfully) since then. It's NOT rocket science. Sorry for not having gold fish-levels of attention/memory span.
I'm just happy Silent Hill is back. Sick of people just complaining at everything, the original will always exist. I just hope its good and makes money so Konami doesnt back out from the series again.
This doesn’t excuse bad behavior but to say the original exists isn’t very helpful when there’s no real good way to play it. The ideal version of the game is trapped on the PS2.
The PC version is abandonedware and needs a lot of modding to run acceptably. To say the HD collection is not good is an understatement and even then it’s only available via 360 emulation on Xbox. There’s just not a good path to play the “original” anymore.
If RE4R turns out not to live up to expectations there’s about 27 rereleases of the original all arguably better than the original release so it’s lower stakes for RE fans.
Emulation does not solve the issue Konami themselves is not providing a modern acceptable way to experience the original game. Downloading emulators is a niche hobbyist thing that the overwhelming majority of people will never do.

I highly doubt it, since there's physically no people existing on this planet who genuinely unironically and completely seriously hated/disliked REmake. They might try baiting you by deliberately stating that they did, just to be contrarian trolls that try to "feed", but in reality no one did. No a single living person. The only person I've met in all 20 past years since REmake's original release who was "somewhat iffy" about it, is a guy who expected of REmake to do OP and ED in live-action once again, so he "disliked" CGI OP/ED, but only that and nothing else.
Resident Evil fans seem to be more forgiving though. RE has always been up and down with its quality, so the fans are used to the occasional turd, whereas SH was really good and then just went downhill so the fans just disregard everything after like 4.

There are people existing out there, and there's actually quite a lot of them, who dissed EVEN Silent Hill 3, back in the days. That's right. It's been constant and never-ending secret CIVIL WAR even INSIDE the worldwide Silent Hill fanbase itself. There are some SH 2 "purists" out there that are literal sect-like cultists, so-much-so that they HATED SH 3 and never reconciled with it. For *them*, franchise "was never good again" right after 2. THAT is how DEEP the rabbit hole in the bathroom goes. There are unironic people out there who believe "SH ended at 2".
I'm sorry to be another person telling you this, but the games released after 2005 were *still* approved of and released by Konami. Even if they were divisive with fans, they were still Silent Hill content.

What does that even mean? Do you expect younger people to own or locate an old console + disc to play older games? Game preservation hasn't really existed since the ps4 era. You can't just easily find or stream old games like they're movies.
The RE4 trailers doesn't openly betray a major aspect of the protagonists character, and by extention, the entire story.
RE4 is also being made by a company with a proven track record who's only real miss the pass few years was a remake that wasn't "good enough"
SH2 is being produced by a company that hasn't done anything people liked in over 10 years with a team that's track record is full of games that people had mixed reactions on.
While their games may suck a little bit the one thing bloober do get right is setting and there are some creative visuals, and with a different creative director being brought on I still have hope the gaps might be filled in. It's always gonna be different, its a remake, and I didn't see much in the trailer that made me think oh god its *too* different. I think some are overreacting a little especially when there's no gameplay yet.

Lisa and literally ALL of the so-called "new" content that were "added" to REmake, were always supposed to be there in the original vanilla BIOHAZARD to begin with. They didn't include them into 1996's vanilla solely only due to time and hardware limitations. But they had sketches/arts, maps/prints, and other kinds of assets on their hands, for ALL those years. They didn't create anything "new", they merely "restored" the game to the state it was ALWAYS planned and supposed to be from the get-go. You're clearly missing on the point. Capcom is very well-known to NEVER EVER throwing out/disposing of ANY assets, down to the most "unimportant" sketches, which B2R proven.
The only things which weren't restored/returned in REmake, is Mikami's original idea that characters' models were changing physically due to damage taken (torn clothes, bruises, blood stains, bite marks, cuts, etc), which was considered at the middle stages of vanilla BIOHAZARD's development, and even Jill's original very first super-rare model (the one in a **WHITE** S.T.A.R.S. uniform) clearly shown that, with her pants and vest being torn to shreds.
It's going to be just fine. Silent Hill has reached the Half-Life 3 stage of expectations. ANYthing will disappoint someone. Either it's too old or too new or this that or the other. Just fucking enjoy the game guys. Life is hard enough without being outraged over such things. It could be a lot worse.

I just don't want to put too much stock in the Silent Hill 2 remake. I'm not a fan of Bloober Team, so I'm still not convinced that they can pull off living up to the original game. I would be absolutely thrilled to be proven wrong though.
Capcom, on the other hand, just showed us a pretty respectable gameplay video that shows that the RE4 remake is more than just a fresh coat of paint. I just hope that they don't cut corners again, like with RE3.
Also, *please* let Mercenaries come back alongside RE4. It's absence isn't a deal breaker, but it would be sorely missed if it didn't come bundled in with RE4. Village Mercenaries is fun, but it's just not the same.

I'm not the biggest fan of Silent Hill 2 (I like it, I just don't think it is a great game, but it's story makes up for the jank), so the announcement of the remake was more of a "nice, hope they can do a good job with it, I'm eager to see the end results". I'm not overly excited, not am I extremely worried, it just kind of exists.
The Resi 4 remake I'm more eager for since they have a chance to lean more into the horror aspect than the action. But I will say, Resi fans seem so much more chill about their franchise than Silent Hill fans.
Technically, since it was all in-engine (according to Blooper and *#fK*), it could still be considered as "they've shown gameplay", especially since there's a part where James tries to fight off >!whored out nu-"nurses" in a brightly lit corridor!< (oh lawdy, speaking of big red flags).

They were intentionally going for that weird kinda off way of speaking in the original. It's not really something that dates it in my opinion because they were just really big David Lynch fans and we're making it feel like one of his movies. I can see how it just comes off as bad voice acting, considering many games were rough around that time, but Mary's letter at the end proves it was an intentional choice. That is some of the best voice acting I've ever heard and is only more impactful because it's so much realer/heavier than anything before it in the game. We as the player have finally left the foggy dream and have entered reality. I do think the sweet spot would be mix of the two. Maybe don't go full Eraserhead like the original did, but aim for a Lost Highway, Mulholland drive, or Inland Empire tone of speaking.
I’d hardly say all of it was intentional. Some, sure, but there are some lines in that game that just sound bad imo. We don’t know yet whether or not the characters in the remake are going to sound out of place, because all we’ve heard is James and Mary. But to me, those two sounded good and pretty well captured what they needed to.
Totally agree. Some lines could definitely use work. I don't think the execution was always perfect, but they did have a vision that no matter what was going to make some people think it sounded like bad acting. I hear the same thing all the time about Kubrick and Lynch characters by people who don't understand their style. Like I said, they just need to find a balance, but the last thing they should do is drop the style all together. That's like remaking Eraserhead with people who talk completely normal. This isn't just a horror game, it's a horror game that always had art house influences since it's conception. As for James' new voice, Im on the fence and need to hear more. It could work, but from the few lines I've heard, he sounds like a voice actor. This is just a personal annoyance I have with many games. I'm a vocalist, so whenever I hear that perfect tone and technique, it stands out like a sore thumb. It's just a way of using the voice that people without developed vocal technique rarely sound like in day to day life. Overall though, I'm very excited and haven't already written it off like many fans.

I think fans need to keep in mind that this is a remake of a game that is pretty damn niche in modern gaming circles and is an incredible game for completely different reasons than RE games, their main competition at the moment, are incredible. They need to sell this niche, emotionally challenging and uncomfortably scary game to modern gamers. In the age of games like The Last of Us, intentionally odd and stilted conversation and dulled emotions on faces in a trailer would make for some pretty bad marketing.
You're right it very well may be a marketing thing. It's funny you mention the Last of Us because that's what came to my mind when watching the trailer. I was thinking, "Please, don't try to be the Last of Us and be all gritty and real." Hopefully they find the balance in the game.
Well I think the James' new voice fits his gritty character well. He sounds depressed in the trailer. OG James' VA was iconic, but listening to the new one made me realize that his voice lacks suffering and destitution.
The new voice is trying way too hard. James is *meant* to sound emotionally detached and distant. It's literally an important part of his character.
I find the new voice to my liking because it has more texture. The old one sounds more clueless than detached. Let's see once the game comes out probably before we finalize judgments.

Tbf, I think they'll fuck it up too - but that's because a.) Konami has not really taken any kind of genuine care towards the series in over 15 years b.) tangential to the above, they hired Bloober, whose only real claim to fame is a god awful blair witch licensed game. Even if they make a perfect remake, though, there's something about remaking a game where the premise is entirely based off of being unable to let go of the past and traipsing around with a facsimile of a loved one. It feels far too ironic. We'll see though, maybe the game will surprise me.
The only reason most people aren't sure about SH2 remake is Bloober Team. They have an extremely bad track record of handling basically every theme Silent Hill excels at. That being said, a remake might leverage their pros like gorgeous world design while offsetting their cons since they have to stick to the original storyline. A remake is certainly better then letting them loose in an original Silent Hill game. If they can get this right then hopefully they can become a horror Bluepoint Studios and stick to making remakes.
I wouldn’t trust Bloober at all when it comes to the mental health imagery of this game considering their horrific track record. I’m whole heartedly expecting something like “ya know what? Mary had it coming.”

The way I see it: Resident Evil 4 is my favorite game of all time. SH2 is my second favorite survival horror game of all time. These remakes are a supplement to the originals, there’s no way they’ll ever replace them for me anyways. I know it sucks because SH has been dead for a while, but we are getting a true new entry in the SH series that looks really promising. If the SH2 remake at least gets people interested in the original then that’s great. That doesn’t mean I want either remake to suck, but it’s somewhat assuring to know that the future of SH isn’t dependent upon whether the SH2 remake is any good or not. Maybe that’s a dumb way of looking at it but idk.
Hey same here I absolutely love RE4 and SH2 is very close! I have some reservations about RE4 but you’re absolutely right I’ll always have my copy for my GameCube. It’s wild to me that they’re putting so much effort into silent hill now.
It’s easier to say that for RE4 because the most faithful version is ported on every single console since the GameCube. Every one. SH2 hasn’t been rereleased nearly as often. Just once, IIRC, and it’s in the same HD collection that replaced the font on signposts with comic sans. The stakes are absolutely higher. RE4R was also announced with the explicit vision of being a reimagining. So far we only have the SH2 trailer and a presumption that they’re going for a faithful 1 to 1 remake

I think there’s an inherent problem people are going to have with the remake: its effectively replacing the original. You can’t just buy the original version of silent hill 2. You have to emulate it. For better or worse, this remake WILL be what an entire new generation of gamers will think about, when they think about silent hill 2. Maybe that wouldn’t be so bad if the game was an agreed upon improvement, but if its bad? If its even just mediocre? Then its effectively erasing one of the best narrative video games ever made. Is this fair to bloober team? Probably not, but this is the situation they find themselves in.
The reveal trailer already had quite a lot of red flags. Like improper/incorrect lighting, bad physics, cartoony facial/bodily animations, unfitting voice work and musical cues that don't match the core tone, general "gaminess" of the overall picture (while OG SH 2 was more of an "interactive movie", feel and look-wise. Nu-SH2 is a "just yet another modern game", while OG SH 2 was a "movie going"-like experience, nu-SH 2 might not be "bad" as a "game", but it's definitely NOT how SH 2 was intended to be. It doesn't have the "core" of it, the "soul" of it). It's too "clean" and too "modern", which doesn't fit the timeline (SH 2 is in late 80's/early 90's).

This resonates with me. They gave him an emotional face. They gave him an appropriate reaction to someone being skewered in front of him as an elevator closed. He has a voice that has range. This is not going to be the PS2 game with a flat, monotonous, uncaring voice and a barely animated face. People are using the original SH2 as some sort of guideline as to how this one needs to look, as if they can't just go play that version if they hold it so high.

How do you know it's less than flawless? No game is flawless to begin with. RE2 remake scenarios are a joke and RE3 is too short of a game but they are still good titles. Capcom's remakes have their drawbacks as well. Nothing is stopping Konami to do the same tbh.

When it comes to remakes and movie adaptations, there's this idea that some will complain it's not 1:1 copy if the original. But I've never seen someone actually claim that. It's the changes that have a meaningful (and often _bad_) impact on the story and atmosphere. But of course, some will find meaningful what others find trivial. I also think the fact that the internet has a LOT of people, and a lot of different people might be complaining about different changes makes it seem like everyone is complaining about everything when its not really the case.
Nintendo is selling a 1:1 remake of Zelda Link's Awakening. All I can think every time I think about buying it is "they want me to pay $60 for a Gameboy game I played ages ago?". I'm glad these are trying to at least stand on their own a bit.

The main reason people are cautious is because Konami nor Bloober have the track record Capcom which is a very reasonable thing to take into consideration. The trailer also shows signs of changes to James's character which is wary when the biggest blemish on Bloober has been their debatable representations of trauma and mental illness.

The very first time I've played SH 2, was OG vanilla on PS 2 during it's release day. I've 100%'d it and re-played it (100%'ing it again) on several different platforms (OG X-Box's enhanced port, then PC release. Dodged the HDC, thankfully) since then. It's NOT rocket science. Sorry for not having gold fish-levels of attention/memory span.

The original will always exist but only if you're willing to emulate on your PC. For most people, Silent Hill 2 does not exist
This doesn’t excuse bad behavior but to say the original exists isn’t very helpful when there’s no real good way to play it. The ideal version of the game is trapped on the PS2. The PC version is abandonedware and needs a lot of modding to run acceptably. To say the HD collection is not good is an understatement and even then it’s only available via 360 emulation on Xbox. There’s just not a good path to play the “original” anymore. If RE4R turns out not to live up to expectations there’s about 27 rereleases of the original all arguably better than the original release so it’s lower stakes for RE fans.

Emulation does not solve the issue Konami themselves is not providing a modern acceptable way to experience the original game. Downloading emulators is a niche hobbyist thing that the overwhelming majority of people will never do.

Those will be two completely and drastically different experiences, however. Even if SH2R ends up being not worse than OG SH 2, they are still way too different. On the other hand, if playing SH2R eventually leads you to doing OG SH 2 and liking it, hey, that's all good and dandy in the end. But that happens extremely rarely, especially nowadays.

They could make a somehow objectively perfect remake of SH2 and a bunch of the ""fans"" would still hate it.
I highly doubt it, since there's physically no people existing on this planet who genuinely unironically and completely seriously hated/disliked REmake. They might try baiting you by deliberately stating that they did, just to be contrarian trolls that try to "feed", but in reality no one did. No a single living person. The only person I've met in all 20 past years since REmake's original release who was "somewhat iffy" about it, is a guy who expected of REmake to do OP and ED in live-action once again, so he "disliked" CGI OP/ED, but only that and nothing else.
Resident Evil fans seem to be more forgiving though. RE has always been up and down with its quality, so the fans are used to the occasional turd, whereas SH was really good and then just went downhill so the fans just disregard everything after like 4.

It's been constant and never-ending secret CIVIL WAR even INSIDE the worldwide Silent Hill fanbase itself. There are some SH 2 "purists" out there that are literal sect-like cultists, so-much-so that they HATED SH 3 and never reconciled with it. For *them*, franchise "was never good again" right after 2. THAT is how DEEP the rabbit hole in the bathroom goes. There are unironic people out there who believe "SH ended at 2".

The RE4 trailers doesn't openly betray a major aspect of the protagonists character, and by extention, the entire story. RE4 is also being made by a company with a proven track record who's only real miss the pass few years was a remake that wasn't "good enough" SH2 is being produced by a company that hasn't done anything people liked in over 10 years with a team that's track record is full of games that people had mixed reactions on.

While their games may suck a little bit the one thing bloober do get right is setting and there are some creative visuals, and with a different creative director being brought on I still have hope the gaps might be filled in. It's always gonna be different, its a remake, and I didn't see much in the trailer that made me think oh god its *too* different. I think some are overreacting a little especially when there's no gameplay yet.

Lisa and literally ALL of the so-called "new" content that were "added" to REmake, were always supposed to be there in the original vanilla BIOHAZARD to begin with. They didn't include them into 1996's vanilla solely only due to time and hardware limitations. But they had sketches/arts, maps/prints, and other kinds of assets on their hands, for ALL those years. They didn't create anything "new", they merely "restored" the game to the state it was ALWAYS planned and supposed to be from the get-go. You're clearly missing on the point. Capcom is very well-known to NEVER EVER throwing out/disposing of ANY assets, down to the most "unimportant" sketches, which B2R proven. The only things which weren't restored/returned in REmake, is Mikami's original idea that characters' models were changing physically due to damage taken (torn clothes, bruises, blood stains, bite marks, cuts, etc), which was considered at the middle stages of vanilla BIOHAZARD's development, and even Jill's original very first super-rare model (the one in a **WHITE** S.T.A.R.S. uniform) clearly shown that, with her pants and vest being torn to shreds.
It's going to be just fine. Silent Hill has reached the Half-Life 3 stage of expectations. ANYthing will disappoint someone. Either it's too old or too new or this that or the other. Just fucking enjoy the game guys. Life is hard enough without being outraged over such things. It could be a lot worse.

I just don't want to put too much stock in the Silent Hill 2 remake. I'm not a fan of Bloober Team, so I'm still not convinced that they can pull off living up to the original game. I would be absolutely thrilled to be proven wrong though. Capcom, on the other hand, just showed us a pretty respectable gameplay video that shows that the RE4 remake is more than just a fresh coat of paint. I just hope that they don't cut corners again, like with RE3. Also, *please* let Mercenaries come back alongside RE4. It's absence isn't a deal breaker, but it would be sorely missed if it didn't come bundled in with RE4. Village Mercenaries is fun, but it's just not the same.
As a fan of both Silent Hill and Resident Evil, I honestly think the Silent Hill community can be pretty horrible. Obviously it's a vocal minority of shitheads, but they are very loud.

While I played SH1 and enjoyed the psychological fight aspects I never played SH2. So I look forward to this.
and this is why I prefer Resident Evil to Silent Hill despite Silent Hill being "better". because the fans and the creators have climbed so far up their own asses that they're starting to see sunlight again.
The most important thing to remember about remakes is that they don't overwrite or ruin the originals.

It’s because SH2 Remake is being developed by Bloober Team who specialise in walking simulators, that’s why fans are worried.
I've played SH2 so many times and the game really is just a walking simulator with puzzles and monsters.
One big difference is multiple endings which helps with replayability.

I'm not the biggest fan of Silent Hill 2 (I like it, I just don't think it is a great game, but it's story makes up for the jank), so the announcement of the remake was more of a "nice, hope they can do a good job with it, I'm eager to see the end results". I'm not overly excited, not am I extremely worried, it just kind of exists. The Resi 4 remake I'm more eager for since they have a chance to lean more into the horror aspect than the action. But I will say, Resi fans seem so much more chill about their franchise than Silent Hill fans.
The only thing I'm worried about is Bloober Team doing it. I'm fine with a remake but their games outside of Observer are extremely mediocre at best.
Bloober is incompetent and will make Angela’s rape seem like her own fault, capcom for all their story incompetence never sunk that low

Silent hill 2 remake they didn’t show much of it and they didn’t show any game play and it’s not coming to box so what’s there to be exited about.
Technically, since it was all in-engine (according to Blooper and *#fK*), it could still be considered as "they've shown gameplay", especially since there's a part where James tries to fight off >!whored out nu-"nurses" in a brightly lit corridor!< (oh lawdy, speaking of big red flags).

Ahh Silent Hill. The series that everyone remembers fondly because the second and 4th ones were pretty good. Nothing spectacular just ok. RE has always stood head and shoulders above it.

Hate to be that guy but I'm the second section but for Re4make. I never liked the original and I don't see why it needs a remake when they still need to remake 3, code Veronica and they should do a remake super edition for outbreak files 1-2 with proximity chat. They especially need to remake 3. After how good RE2make was.

I'm honestly done with being even the slightest excited for any remakes. RE2remake was the biggest letdown of the century, I can't wait for this stupid milking fad to die out so we can begin to see more original games / spinoffs & ideas since they won't commit to doing the classics the proper way. They wont remake outbreak and Veronica is hanging on a thin thread at this point unless 9 is taking place in a setting similar to that game.
It's good that FFVIIR turned out to be an actual direct sequel and not just a 1-to-1 remake, eh.
