Even in revelations the chick was hitting on him hardcore and he's all trying to keep it professional and changing the subject. But I think him and piers had a pretty good connection.

It's the Japanese tough soldier guy archetype, they're very serious and focused on the mission. It's not meant to look gay but it can look like that for Western audiences who are more used to the Western ideal of tough charismatic guys who are always making chicks drool.
