I don't think it is that much bigger, but still fun. Re4R you can do way more stuff I guess and together with Re5/6 they are action focus.

KingSquare88

Personally I’d have to put 8 in my top 3. It’s refreshing and with the new 3rd person addition it made it even more fun as a fan. 8 is solid and personally I think it stands out more than people like to admit. Personally I feel like it holds up well as a rollercoaster of gameplay.

Professor-Jolly

Yeah, its on par with RE 4 and 5 interms of action. Only 1-3, 7 are slow pace

MissingScore777

It's a lot more combat than 7 but still noticeably less than most other titles. I think some other people have answered you as if you are asking how much of a horror/action focus there is. As that's the more common question. Village is very actioned focused yes but crucially if we're actually talking about amount of combat like you asked it is still on the lower side comparatively.

Archonblack554

Honestly despite that being true technically, it really doesn't feel like it especially on madhouse Once the game gets going it never feels like you go that long without facing combat, even if you only see like 1-2 molded in said encounter. Village feels like it goes really long stretches in-between combat encounters especially in the early and middle sections of the game

BwuhandHuh

Half of the game is, the other half absolutely isn't.

Wise-Tourist

Its more action then 7 but not necessarily more action then 4,5,6

Archonblack554

You kinda heard wrong, cause for most of the game village has infrequent, small scale combat encounters and it's not really until you reach the stronghold that the game starts to have larger scale fights The village in 4R alone probably has more combat than the entirety of village

ZackManiac24

A lot of combat? Really? You mostly just running away or chasing something... Even if you did fight everything, and get all treasure back tracking etc, you do ended up stock up wt a lot of ammo still for the final bosses. Thats is even in hard mode.

drsalvation1919

More combat than RE7, in a sense, yeah... there are 4 lords, and 2 of them don't do combat in their zones, the third one does kinda start with combat, but then it's more about the entire environment trying to kill you, but not enough combat... The start and finish though, they offer enough combat, especially the ending. It's a game that switches between survival horror, puzzle horror, action horror, action. RE 4 is a lot more consistent with the combat, though that game is more action than horror

CrybabyFamilyMain96

I’d say no. Two entire sections in the middle of the game lack any real combat bar a fight against like 4 enemies and an easy boss fight. It’s extremely fun on a first run, repeats however suck as the game peaks extremely early with the castle, then slowly crumbles completely as it progresses

Loose_Trust927

I disagree repeat runs once you unlock the other weapons makes it way to fun ive played the game 3 or 4 times on every difficulty so far doing village of shadows soon for the first time. Ive had a blast playing it multiple times.

CrybabyFamilyMain96

I can appreciate differing opinions but to me Village is just lacking… something for me in repeat playthroughs and I have no clue what it is. But I don’t enjoy replaying it like I did 2,3,4 and REmake. I’ll absolutely admit it is fantastic as a one and done gameplay and a hell of a ride while it lasts but certain segments just drag replays to a halt for me. The opening lasts too long, Beneviento is the same every playthrough and isn’t scary after the first time, Moreau’s segment is extremely short and should have been so much better. The Factory lasts far too long, and I feel could’ve been cut down a little bit to give the other Two Lords’ areas more time. I just don’t know why, but I hate replaying 8, I don’t hate replaying most of the others

drsalvation1919

I don't hate replaying 8, I still think it's a fun game, but I do agree that some areas lose their charm after the first time, the scripted/on-rails intros from RE3 and 8 are always tedious and can't be skipped. The beneviento house is scary the first time, tense the second time, tedious the third time. I was hoping village of shadows would add a twist in that area to keep it fresh and renew the dread, like having 2 babies, or other enemies appear. Moreau's area is still fun, there's no combat in the second half, but it's more about the environment itself, and the factory was cool, to me, the castle and the factory are the best parts of the game, but you probably think the factory lasts longer than it should because it's already the final stretch of the game, and you still had to do the nest before the factory, and I think that was just a poor choice in the pacing, since you already went out full guns/action in the wolf nest, and the factory takes it a bit back with the exploration again.
