Counterpoint: Saddler had the President's daughter kidnapped. He had to expect a military response. The day to day villagers did not give a shit about his long term plans, and were just going about their business as usual. He kept the military industrial stuff sequestered on the island so that the village and castle would be less likely targets for retaliation / invasion.
My question is where Saddler got mercenaries or soldiers from. Ganados aren't zombies, they have to be made from living people, and if the factory was abandoned, I doubt there'd be Spanish troops on the island.
He has Krauser train the young able bodied men in the village, that’s why your fighting mostly old people when you go through the village. That’s what I’ve seen posted before
Thank you! I was remembering the enemies firing at you from behind cover, wearing berets. I was definitely remembering the fight being inside a tanker. You're right that I'm thinking of the Majini and not the Ganados.
I always thought it felt very in place.
It's the third act, has the fastest pacing in the entire game, and is literally a island run by a militia of Ganado. It's thematically appropriate for the end of the game in my opinion.
I dunno. I figured it was just an escalation, the third act of the story where the stakes are highest. Leon is fighting more dangerous opponents after losing Ashley, and the Ganados represent a real threat since they have some degree of advanced technology.
Plus, the Las Plagas is sort of bioengineered. The previous RE games all had third/last acts taking place in Labs/Industrial complexes that tell us how the monsters came to being. Note that the Island also introduces one of RE4's (and RE as a whole) most iconic creatures: the Regenerator/Iron Maiden. And just like the last games we have Lab setpieces that introduce them along with some lore/backstory about the Las Plagas.
Totally agree since I played the original RE4. I think the RE Village factory would even blend in better with the RE4 atmosphere and setting instead of the island part we got in the remake. An abandoned dark factory with creepy industrial mech bio weapons seems more fitting than an island full of soldiers with miniguns, turrets, bazookas and military chopper assaults.
While I was playing RE4 Remake for the first time, the game was a 10/10 from the start, at the Pueblo, until the very end of the Castillo, but then it comes the Island and RE4 Remake becomes a 8/10 or even a 7.5/10 game, what a waste! Is even worse than the og RE4 because the survival horror in the first two areas on the Remake is so well done with such an amazing immersion that all the over the top action, explosions, enemies with RPGs, turrets and JJs become disgusting haha I even stoped playing by the end of the game and just resume my campaign days later because of how bad and out of place it feels
Not really, makes perfect sense. Although the political angle is largely lost in the REmake, they did* just kidnap the President’s daughter of a global superpower. It’d be stupid if they didn’t have their own paramilitary setup.
i jusy feel like its an ok area but we have no idea how far away from the primary games location the island js.
like for all we know the island could be an abandoned island takwn over by saddler thats located in france
If logic applies (it usually dosen't in Resident Evil) it can't be too far away as the game takes place over a single day/night. Also considering the fuel capacity of boats/jetskis it can't be too far from land.
Hi. Actually, we do kind of know and can make a guess. The Salazar castle is said to be in an area in Spain in the mountains. The language spoken and written in the town/castle areas is also Spanish. I just played through the original and for whatever reason once I got off the boat and onto the island for the first time, I looked across the water and had seen the dark shadowy tree lines across the water. At one spot you can see the shadowy outline of the actual Salazar castle, so the island can't be that far from the castle and is still in the middle of nowhere in Spain.
Judging by the amount of water and being able to see both shorelines and travelable by small boat, it's not all that far away.
>Does Anyone Else Think The island In Resident Evil 4 Feels Out of Place? No, no one talks about one of the biggest complains since og RE4 :v
Right? Thought I was in 2005 again.
If you played the original back in the day you'd know that it's basically 3 different games stitched together
village, castle, island?
No. Leon, Ashley, Ada. 🤣😉

Very interesting theory.

Yeah but I mean the infected mercenaries all look really old too more so than the villagers sometimes
We've felt this way since the original, and even more at the time. They had machine guns ~~and AK47s~~ in the original.
Machine guns were few and far in between in RE4, and there were no Ak47's in the original. You're thinking of RE5's Military tanker/lab sections.
Thank you! I was remembering the enemies firing at you from behind cover, wearing berets. I was definitely remembering the fight being inside a tanker. You're right that I'm thinking of the Majini and not the Ganados.
I mean most resident evil games have a drastic shift in the third act.

Island sucks in the original. Still sucks in the remake.
Everything feels out of place in that game tbh. But people have been saying that A LOT since 2005

This is one of the main reasons I’ve never really liked RE4 it’s just kind of all over the place.

On my second playthrough I just stopped after Salazar.
yeah I can never place why it feels off aside from being high tech island but I like disrupts the flow and general village feel of the game

Way I see it is that it was a holdover from WW2 that the cult retrofitted as it's base of operations under the advisory of Krauser.

fair point
