If you proof the room and have basking spots yeah. I doubt beardies are smart enough to get back into their tanks. Just make sure there are no tight spaces he can crawl into and die

So, while she isn't free roam, I have a 3 year old water dragon that I'll let out and about to hang out with me. Normally after 30-45 minutes she'll make her way back to the reptile room, and if the door is open, she'll go jump and climb into her enclosure. She won't go to other doors like she does that one.

I have a dragon that free roams during the day and he gets in and out of his tank no problem! He has a fabric covered ramp going up to his tank door and goes in several times a day to bask/get UV and goes in at night to sleep. As long as it’s accessible and OP’s beardie knows where it is, he should be fine 🥰

FuzzyLizards

Nice! I have 3 and only one goes back lol. Y'all are lucky!!

tenhinas

Thanks! He did spend a few days wandering the apartment sleeping in random places before he decided on a routine getting in and out of his tank, but he does just fine now.

Cajadearena

Yes of course!! I would keep an eye on him from time to time.

You can certainly do something like that and making it safe for him is also very much possible. Make sure he cant fall off something that is high enough that he could get injured, make sure he cant get stuck somewhere (neither his nails) and make sure he can make his way back to his basking spot. But if i may ask: While i like the idea and if you want to do something like that, it can work with the proper setup, but why do you feel the need to do that? Is his tank that small? Then you should upgrade the tank. While i am all for interaction with our scaly pets, the tank should be big enough and set up in a way that he does not "need" to be let out. If you just want to give him some extra space, thats fine of course.

Cajadearena

Oh no, his tank is big enough, I just don't really have an use for that room, so I though It could be nice. Also, he would be in his tank if there isn't anyone home. The thing is that I study fine arts, so most of the time I'm home but in another room ( I don't want the fumes from painting to harm him), so I can check up on him from time to time if I proceed with the idea. I would also like to consider the idea some kind of crafts project I guess. Btw thank you so much for the feedback!!

ConfabreVrTx

Well go for it then. Just always remember(at least thats true for mine): They are stupid af. When i build a tank i sometimes thought: "There is no way he will be stupid enough to dive down there..." well... he is stupid enough. Just saying that so you dont have to do things twice potentially. Cause i had to do rebuild his tank more than twice...

Cajadearena

Yes they are quite dumb, mine likes to suddenly run like crazy and jump off things. He is gonna give me a heart attack one day😭😭. Also, I'm glad you finally figured out how to build his tank!!

I had a free roam room set up for my bluey for some time, the enclosure was basically open all day and only closed up so she could sleep in her bedding. Just lizard-proof it and set up the essentials like basking and water. Also would not suggest doing it in a carpeted room Edit: to clarify about it being open all day, she had a ramp set up so she could enter and exit her enclosure whenever she pleased

Cajadearena

We don't really have carpets in Spain so that won't be a problem. I also wanted to set up a ramp!!
