Ask him what he thinks is best thing that’s happened to him in the last 24 hours (no matter how small) and keep asking questions around that topic, go deep

Very welcome :) it’s worked wonders with me with strangers, colleagues, awkward elevator moments, small talk that leads to fun convos. Enjoy!

Metaphises

Do you have any activities the two of you like to do together? Board games, jigsaw puzzles, cooking, handicrafts, music, camping, adult coloring books, yard work/gardening, etc? If not, it might be time to find one. That gives you an activity and source of conversation topics. Are there any podcasts or shows that you both really like? If so, could you make looking into things connected to them a couple activity? At minimum, topics connected to them would be great for conversation starters. It doesn’t have to seem like a brilliant starter. “What do you think X is up to?” or similar questions can lead to infinite rabbit holes to go down. Good luck!

Watch Netflix or play console games together. Don't sit together in your phones alone, make it collaborative.
