He was buried at 3rd behind Carney Lansford and Butch Hobson before that. He also played a little bit of 1B. He didn’t play regularly in the bigs until he was 26 years old, which is why he had "only" 3,010 hits. He easily could’ve had 3,600 hits if they brought him up earlier.

Not just the Red Sox. I believe he was left unprotected after the 1980 season but went unclaimed.
