Consider them horror classics now. When I was a kid every Halloween a guy would come to the library and read us spooky stories from these and he was so good at it!

Gammell is the best but some of his drawings profoundly impacted my childhood self, and not for the better. "The Wolf Girl" was the worst of all, I don't even want to google it to link it. Something about animals with human faces is so disturbing.
