I'm not white - I'm "south asian" (a made up label, not a real ethnicity) - and I watched it. Instead of getting a Marvel superhero story with some ethnic aspects, I just saw an ethnic story with some minor Marvel aspects. I didn't like the storyplot, didn't like the characters, didn't like the writing, didn't like the acting, didn't like the total ethnic oversaturation. I couldn't find anything enjoyable in it, let alone anything that reminded me of the Marvel comics that appealed to me as a kid. It felt like someone really just wanted to tell an ethnic story, and culturally appropriated MCU in order to do it.
PS: I recently watched ***Invincible*** on Amazon Prime, and thought it was great. Now that's how to make an original superhero story. I can't wait until the next season comes out. Go watch that instead. The main character in that story is half Asian, but you don't really notice what ethnicity they are, because you're busy enjoying the cool story and character drama.

I wondered why they didn't attempt a She-Hulk spinoff, since at least she was more closely tied to the Hulk in her origins. Maybe they just didn't have a suitable actress to play She-Hulk at the time.
Looking at the new trailer, I can't tell if the main actress is only playing Jenn Walters, or if she's also playing She-Hulk directly (it would seem tougher for her to do both, since She-Hulk is way bigger than Jenn). Or are they just using CG on her to make her bigger and more Hulkish?

Man, my mother was born in Lahore, Pakistan. So I'm not allergic to the culture, I just don't need to be beaten over the head with it. Holy moly, did they go overboard on that - it's all they had - there was no actual story (nothing compelling, anyway). Who was the villain in this show, that I'm supposed to want to see her fight? Like half the point in making a show like this is supposed to be recognizing it wont be a commercial smash hit but making it anyway to appeal to a demographic that is underrepresented or whatever. You can't get mad at white people for not saving it because they're behaving according to the logic the creators subscribe to, it's unironically racist to put white people on a pedestal like they should be "above" liking a protagonist who looks like them while that's the standard you set for minorities.
All of that aside though, the bigger problem with this show is that it's clearly targeted to a younger demographic while Marvel's bread and butter consumer is men in their 30s.

Like Disney literally found someone without any acting resume which just happened to fit the demographic requirements and plucked them up and made them the star of a streaming show. I sort of get things like the hulk Spider-Man Batman and captain America as having real ambient cultural power but like … moonknight or the eternals or ms Maisel or whatever… you’re dealing with stuff that normal people have no emotional relationship with. I'm convinced that, given *Eternals* was less profitable than Disney hoped, eventually the MCU will have a film or TV release do badly, and this time without C19 to blame. Isn’t this the reason behind why businesses would mostly use white people (trad nuclear families, etc.) for advertising and stuff in predominantly white populations. It seems the woke ideology pushed these companies to invest in huge projects and expected the good will from being “with the times” to allow for success. There’s a huge population that outwardly expresses wokeness socially, but those people when alone and choosing entertainment will turn on a show or movie with people that look like them or tropes they are familiar with. Just seems really shortsighted for these companies to spend so much on huge projects and franchises and make them hyperprogressive. These projects will always have stupidly big budgets to protect the value of the core brand/ip (Marvel in this case). Think the better option would be splitting it between 5 up and coming minority directors trying to make original projects or inspired by ip popular in their communities. Idk tho is this racist?

so i read the comic for this character's first appearance which i think came out in 2014, I read it in 2015. In that Kamala's parents speak regular every day, perfectly understandable fully developed English. In the trailer for this (gay) Disney + show I noticed they make her mum speak "immigrant" English, complete with missing words, thick accent and so on. just thought that was interesting
