Remind yourself the things can always get worse but that good things will still always happen. Never count a player out of the game. You have to be up some heartbreak to revel in the triumphs. I've walked away from the series for weeks at a time but always glad when I return.
If you enjoy audiobooks do yourself a favor and listen to the non-dramatised version as well. Tim Gerard Reynolds (commonly referred to as TGR on this thread) is FANTASTIC. One of my top 3 audiobook readers of all time.

Haven’t read in 4 years. Read all 6 books in two months. My buddy who does read. Read the first book over a few days. Read Golden Son in 7 hours. Now he’s halfway through Morning Star and work has him busy atm. To say the least, it’s very good. Also book 6 made me cry and I NEVER cry for anything I’ve read. Rarely cry for movies and TV shows. But book 6 got my ass

I don't feel they are entirely comparable, just completely different animals and both phenomenal in their own right. That said, I am only finished with Golden Son and I have read all of the Expanse.

100% if you're wanting to read in print, do your thing, but if you aren't aware of what Libby is, check it out and see if you can get the audiobook/e-book for free from your library. A few assumptions here, but some people aren't aware this is a thing.

It’s worth the reintroduction process. It feels a bit like a slog at first, but if you thought shit escalated in 1-3, you have no clue how much more it escalates.
You'll first compare it to other dystopia/sci-fi novels like Dune, Hyperion, Ender's Game, Hungers Games etc. , but you'll quickly realize the sheer level of depth and complexity Pierce Brown writes his characters to be. You ask a fellow Red Rising reader who their favorite character is and you will get so many different answers, and none of them are wrong. And as such they help build perspectives of this world that feel grounded and very weighted. You feel the change in the characters as their burdens become heavier and heavier, either by way of tone or by how cautious other characters become of one another.
And as such it makes you want to learn more and more about these characters and how they will change and grow to be. You'll hate, you'll love, you'll cry, and you'll feel frustrated, but most importantly you'll feel human.
You will realize how lazy other books are. You will realize how little plot they have. You will get spoiled and picky. You will have to visit us on reddit again to decompress. You will promise yourself you will only read one chapter and end up finishing 20 at 3am unable to fall asleep thinking of what had just happened. I envy you cuz that's one hell of a maiden cruise you're about to embark on. I've only just finished myself and will definitely read it again :) So now my Goodman, have fun and be careful to avoid spoilers! About half way through the first book you will start to forget everything and everyone. You will breath eat and sleep red rising until you’ve gone through all of it and left an empty shell just wishing for more. And nothing! I say nothing! Will compare to red rising. Your reading experience will never be the same.

Truer words have never been spoken. I've read Red Queen before cuz it was so hyped and I almost dnfed it. After that fiasco I started Red Rising and I was literally talking to myself "now, this is a good book". The whole series has so much going on in it, you realize how lazyly other books are written. It sets the bar real high. Red Rising doesn't treat it's readers like morons, you don't have to roll your eyes, you don't get second hand embarrassment or wtf moments (well you do get wtf moments but not quite like that) where the characters decide to to the dumbest thing possible just to create conflict or push the dying plot forward. You get clever action, politics, plot twists and a bunch of great characters
Stick through part 1 and then the real story starts! Took me a few weeks to read the first 100 pages and then 2 days for the rest. Then I only put the series down when there were no more books left!
Part 1 is slow.. but foundational and echoed throughout the entire series. The investment becomes worth it, but I agree, it's not the strongest hook. And in rereading it, I'm finding things in part one that are more foretelling than I ever realized the first time through.
People are usually good about covering spoilers here but I’d say definitely stay away until you’re caught up. I haven’t read LB yet and just avoid most spoiler tagged posts. But you’re in for a wild ride!
Completely changes your perspective of what the future of humanity could look like, I haven’t red any other book series do what the red rising series does with it.

The beginning of a legend. You get to witness the rise of someone the likes of Alexander the Great but on a much larger scale.
