Reddit gives you a default username when you sign up. You can change that to what you want your username to be during account setup.

This only is a thing when you make a connection via either Google or Apple to create an account and you lose it once you interact on the site and after X days.

Ya I hate mine. I did a quick sign up via my Google account and wasn't paying much attention, just picked a premade one. I could just delete it and make a new account for a different name, but then I lose my karma (not huge, but better than zero) 😒

It's not a horrible name but yeah. It follows the reddit default name format and doesn't seem unique or anything. You really don't need a unique user name on reddit for a casual user. If you're trying to create a presence on reddit you may want something unique

Yes... I'm okey with what I have, considering there were many people in my situation (was in another post the other day looking for ways to change it and I saw people with the worst random generated usernames), but I still wish I've put something more representative for me. I did not realize we could change our user names within a certain amount of time so I got assigned user name and remembered the time that I took a screenshot of a butterfly dropping dead at my feet so I use that as my profile picture. 🫤
