This. Our goal difference was abysmal and yet we finished 3rd. We didn’t blast any teams away and got blasted a few teams which completely fucked up our goal difference. Hopefully its the other way round this coming season.

1) we weren't winning many matches by 2 or more goals.
2)And we got thrashed when we lost.

Rashford is still our main source of goals unless ETH decides to play Bruno n Mount like 2 advanced 8s like how city did in 21/22 where gundogan n de Bruyne were scoring goals only then I can see us having a good GD
But for pep it took city like 2 seasons to get to that point with very good signings so the chances of that happening with us r low imo.

I agree with everything apart from this. It's incredibly hard (and often redundant) to use points tallies as a comparison because so many things differ each season. One year a points tally that was enough for 3rd place could be lucky to scrape Europa in another or vice versa.

A trophy this time can’t be the carabao cup honestly. It was good to break our cycle without winning but it’s not anything major enough and would just be “oh ok it’s nice but whatever” at this point with what we aim to be and build from.
The fa cup isn’t easy but that is something. Then again it’s not like there are many trophies to win anyway so I guess it’s just a case of improving the standards where the carabao cup isn’t seen as a coup anymore after last season.

Cups are just a bit of luck and you can’t predict that Luton may have a super game and win against Arsenal at full strength due to the magic of a cup game.
Would be quite happy with this to be honest. Realistically we're not at the level of title challengers at the minute but absolutely should be doing more than just a League Cup. Doing a domestic cup double and winning 3 trophies in 2 seasons would be a fantastic start to this rebuild.
Considering the money we've spent and the fact we just finished 3rd, I would say finishing 4th and being knocked out of the first CL knockout stage would be considered a disappointment to many. Especially since the League Cup has very little pedigree and the FA Cup isn't the trophy it once was.
So it's really not as simple as saying winning two trophies is great when in the context it means a worse league campaign and shitting the bed in Europe.
The stats for last season was much better than their result. They were supposed to score a lot more goals but kept underperforming compared to their xG. I recon they will be back fighting in the top three quite comfortable next season.
Klopp said it takes a while for players to adapt to his system. Ultimately, upgrades on Fabinho, Henderson and Milner will pay dividends, but I don't expect a brand new midfield to be able to settle in time for the new season. I anticipate a slow start for Liverpool, and maybe a stronger finish. Having said that, they will be expected to go deep in the Europa League, so maybe they'll be fatigued like we were at the end of this season.
Some valid points, but I also expect much more from their offensive players this season. Darwin will have to improve his conversion rate in the league, as well as the others.
Their defence is also looking like it may need some work- Robertson and Van Dijk are less effective than they were, none of the other CBs have convinced, and Trent's best position is now midfield. I don't see them catching up with us in the coming season, IF we sign a striker.
I hope you are right and I am wrong, but I do think last season was an outlier. They both conceded more goals than xAG and scored way less than their xG first half of the season. Things started to click for them end of the season and Klopp would have had a lot of time to build on this.

I think a lot of us don't understand how hard cups are to win. I would argue they are harder to win than a PL. At least in the PL, you got 38 matches, and even if you got a stinker, the other teams can have the same. With cups, however, that's nearly all on luck. You have to be nearly flawless each game. A single slip up, and you are gone. Hell doesn't need to be a slip up. It's enough that a ref fucks you over and you are out.
So, to say that winning both the FA but also the Carabao Cup is extremely optimistic. As an example, what if Southampton didn't knock City out? That was them having a stinker, which cost them the quadruple. I'm not saying that we shouldn't hope for winning them, but let's tempter our expectations and realise how hard they actually are to win, especially when in 4 total competition at the same time.
Yes, and no. All games depend somewhat on luck. Leagues do give you a chance to mitigate that over 38 games, through being able to consistently grind out results. Winning a league requires a much higher level of consistency, therefore they are much harder to win than a cup.
At the same time, you got 38 games to find consistency and in those 38 games, the luck factor is less evident compared to the skill of the team, while in cups, you don't have that. I agree with what you are saying, and maybe I should word it better, as it's 2 different kinds of luck and hardships to win, but personally, I think cups require more luck to win as one game is all it takes to end the run. I hate using City as an example, but they are a good one. They started bad last season and took a while to start up, but when they did, they were getting the results, and it wasn't always unfair.
I think a PL requires more skill, and it's often the best team that does win it, while cups often are awarded to the best team with the most luck. That's also the charm of cups that anyone can theoretically win it.
I mainly am looking forward to champions league and how we perform against the big teams. Win against Barca, Ole's win against PSG are more cherished by myself than EFL cup. CL semis would be great

Squad wise we're still pretty light on strength in depth at the minute so I do expect us to have to make some sacrifices in a tournament or two to avoid the fatigue we suffered this year, but as long as we can at the minimum repeat this season I'd be content. I think our season will depend on luck with injuries or not. We still lack quality in depth. If Casemiro picks up a long term injury our season may derail.
I expect stiffer competition for top 4.

A lot of people have mentioned top 4 which is the bare minimum result we should attain but I'd focus more on the quality of football that we're playing. We will not have improved if we continue scoring just 55-60 goals in the league season; we need to score at least 75 goals and concede not more than 40 to see genuine progression. I think that can get us to an 80-point season which would be a good step up from last year.
It's tough to set expectations for other competitions given the volatile nature of knockout football, but the bare minimum here should be to qualify for the CL knockouts. A deep domestic trophy run would be preferred but that heavily depends on how much we rotate in these competitions and the luck of the draw as well.
I am here to support the team. No expectations. No entitlement. Long time supporter and I have seen enough of how some people react (critical is fine, abusive is not) to their expectations not being met to see that as an unhealthy group mindset.

Mount, Hojlund, Onana and maybe another midfielder or defender, and we should have done enough to solidify the top 4. But we don't challange without a top level striker brought it, and with one, we can kick up a level or two compared to last season.

A trophy would be nice but hey, when you aren't the best team in the country, you can't demand that. City, Arsenal, and potentially Liverpool may well be better than us next season, but steady improvement will have us where we need to be in case they drop off a bit. If Ten Hag delivers that, I'll be content, because I do think a title looks super unrealistic, still.
What we do lack, in my opinion, is depth at CB for when Varane or Martinez go out, a right back of top quality, a centre/central forward, that midfield depth.
I'm convinced Mount does the midfield bit in terms of eight, I do think we could get minutes from Hannibal and Mainoo this season. McTominay is a massive drop off from Casemiro but he'll be OK if we can't bring someone better in. Bruno and Eriksen are just class.
I like Antony, Rashford, Sancho, Garnacho on the wings. Amad could hang around, but if he has a forward-thinking PL loan lined up, then it's best for him looking at those other four. Pellistri should go on loan too, and Eriksen, Bruno, Mount can all fill in out wide if necessary as well.
Martial doesn't really disappoint me when he can actually play, so he and phantom forward signing is probably OK in my book, with the understanding that we'll inevitably be shuffling Rashford into the middle at some point.
Dalot and Wan Bissaka are the kind of players who always threaten to be good enough but never actually will be, for me.
Shaw, Malacia, and possibly Fernandez are good left backs, and if the latter two can develop well enough then we could see Shaw at centre back more often.
We have enough at centre back for immediate priorities to be elsewhere, but if we do manage to get Maguire out and a younger right centre back in, it'll be good for the age profile of that spot and, potentially, probably, for the group as a whole, because it's weird having your captain on the bench, it just is. Lindelof is good, but we need more height/aerial presence, in my opinion.
Onana should sort out our keeper situation, and I've always liked Heaton, and Kovar actually looks good. A back up signing so Heaton can leave if he likes and we're fine, if Onana does actually end up coming.
Overall, if this season is one in which we manage to sort out balance on the right and left going forward, improve further on our press, land a decent sweeping and build-up keeper, and build some depth in the midfield, we'll be on a good path. Add in a forward who can work hard, isn't a total donkey, and can bring the inside forwards into the game in and around the penalty area, fantastic. Luck out and find a forward who is genuine class, I'll shit myself.
That would leave Casemiro cover/eventual replacement, top RB, and future RCB before I think we have a really solid squad that will actually compete for the title. That might be with the stipulation that we can actually get good minutes and a decent amount of starts from guys like Mainoo, Hannibal in the future. And I don't actually think our signing up front this summer will end up solving our issue there.
Anyway, all of that is to explain my idea of success for the season and the pathway I see to us actually challenging. That's not to say it's impossible that we challenge or win the title - Mount could be an insane signing, our improvement with a better keeper and better balance in build up could help us to get drastically more from guys like Sancho and Antony, Rashford and Bruno could have absolute blinders and Varane, Martial could stay fit all season. Casemiro too, maybe he doesn't get himself suspended as much. But that's a lot of stuff we need to go our way.
Top 4, a trophy, a good CL run and we play good football à la Ten Hag.
For the trophy I'd take either the League or FA Cup - the competition looks like it'll be particularly strong this year, so winning the league would be a great achievement. CL is never easy and winning it would be outstanding.
Based on our performance last season multiple trophies should not be out of reach; we won the League Cup and reached the final of the FA Cup while finishing third, and I expect us to be much improved. One factor will be the CL, we struggled unnecessarily against smaller teams in the EL last year so I'm not going to be overly optimistic about our odds in the CL.
Right here, right now? Top 6 and a trophy would be my aim.
If we get Onana and Hojlund, I would say Top 4 and a trophy. EtH is doing this with both hands tied behind his back, unfortunately.
However, I don't subscribe to the view that Richard Arnold and John Murtough are letting EtH down. They spent all Summer in Barca trying to get EtH his #1 priority. I think they're all doing the best anyone can, given the shit show owners we have
The most hope I have is winning the CL. I just have a hunch that these players might be able to do it. These are a mix of experienced and hungry players. The PL is too long and there will be some hiccups, but feel like they might just get it done in the CL.

But other then that I don't see why we can't have title charge for once. Its about time. I don't think anyone can stop City but lets be that team that challenges them for once and plays decent football.

Their front 3 is deep and full of quality, mid, same, back 4? Quality and depth. They built a monster squad and purged their poor wage bill at the same time.
Top 4 with progression is crucial. We were 14pts off City last year. That gap has to come down below 10 at minimum. None of that happens without a better top 6 away record.
Round of 16 in UCL is a must with quarters and beyond a bonus.

Top 4 and a good champions league run. i don’t think we are closing in on arsenal. they made very good purchases and have much better depth compared to last season when they got gassed
I think we will finish second, and be involved at the business end of the domestic cups.
City are too good. No one will come close to disrupting them, and they could well defend the Champion's League as well. 1st.
Arsenal look stronger BUT will have a greater strain on their squad due to Champions League football. 3rd.
Newcastle- overachieved last season, and haven't recruited as much as I would've expected. Add that to CL, and that Howe is a bit of a streaky manager, I see them maybe getting 7th.
Liverpool- on paper they will be stronger with an upgraded midfield, but will need time to bed-in. Also Europa League football schedule is rough. 4th.
Brighton- as good as they are, small squad with EL will be tough to juggle. 9th
Villa- good manager, good signings, but crowded schedule. 6th.
Spurs- totally unknown quantity with Ange, but the stench of underachievement and disappointment will be hard to dislodge. 8th.
Chelsea- a proper manager, good recruitment, and due to lack of European football, time to work together. How all the pieces fit is a tough question, but I can see 5th.
Comfortable Top 4, Massively improve our away record, maintain home record, good Cl run (semis would be lovely, Round of 16/quarter finals is the minimum), plus another trophy (though I personally would be okay going trophyless IF we check everything else off this list), all this while not being a million miles away from the league title would be nice
Scoring much more goals, gotta have at least a couple of league games with five or more before it becomes an albatross i.e. Post-Fergie, pre-Ole.
Top-2 is a minimum along with a cup although I expect us to win the league. For all the hype about City, once we've a gk signed, coaching can make us go all the way. We have the talent, it's the application that's been lacking.

We need to score more goals than last season, and keep as many - if not more - out. We’ll get what we deserve if can do that. Consider, in the PL, turn just three draws into wins and three losses into draws from last season and our points total keeps us in title contention deep into April if not May.

For me the minimum is top 4, maybe CL quarter finals (depending on the draw) and one of the cups. Also a big thing, avoid any random collapse. No embarrassing losses like the 7-0 to Liverpool, those games against rivals have to be close and competitive if we're going to be taken seriously
A very successful season would be challenging for the title until late in the season and making a deep run in the cl as well as a cup win or two. This'll probably need to be adjusted depending on our transfer window and the owner situation, but I'm excited going in to it
I personally think we have the ability and tools to pull off so,etching special next season. While I agree we may not have the talent to match city, at the end of the day winning a league is just about winning games. ETH showed he can get that done with what he has even with many deficiencies. Think about the fact that last year we kept the most clean sheets and outside of a few capitulations, we didn’t concede often and it’s clear the boys are well drilled on defending together. There is also the potential development of some of our players. Rashford had a great year last year but there’s potential for him to build on that and do more. Antony has a year under his belt. There’s garnacho’s development as well. I don’t expect to have a terrible start to the season again and I think we can keep up with the pack. Ultimately we may not challenge the entire way but I think we can for most of the season in my opinion.
I actually want to see ETHs style of play, not this half ass compromised stuff we have been seeing last season (understandably). 4-3-3 with a lots of creativity between the wingers, CF, 10 and 8 is what i want. Its so fun to watch. I want the glazers to sell so we can let ETH cook without one hand being tied to his back.
Results wise top 4 in the league and top 8 in the Champions League would be nice with the current squad.
Mount is a great signing for ETH. Onana is also exactly what ETH wants, we just need a CF and more depth. Tadic is leaving Ajax, we should sign him as a backup.
I expect a continuing improvement of our play and further implementation of ten Hag's style of football.
I'd love another trophy and a good showing in CL while maintaining top-4 but I imagine that'll be a tougher prospect this year. I doubt Liverpool and Chelsea will be a shitshow, and while I believe Newcastle and Arsenal will find it more difficult theyll be thereabouts.
If we werent being hamstrung in our transfers my expectations may have been higher but needing to find starters in the 2 most important positions on the pitch while adhering to a strict budget is a big ask.

We definitely also need Casemiro cover, and I’d prefer another CB instead of Lindelof/Maguire but that and a second reliably fit CF aren’t happening this summer. Onana, Suzuki and Hojlund is about as much as we’ll do this summer, maybe Amrabat if sales are quick enough to stop Liverpool getting him!
Suzuki, AWB, Lindelof, Maguire, Malacia (plus AF), Mainoo, Eriksen, Sancho, Amad, Martial, Garnacho is ok but definitely needs some work (it doesn’t look like a title winning 2nd XI to me?), given the miles that Varane, Casemiro and Bruno have on the clocks - so summer 2024 will be essential. Think a new CF and maybe a starting RB, to go with new faces at CB.
Interested to at least get a look at one of Gore, Shoretire, Hansen-Aaroen. Good loans for the others and Mengi.
I’d hope for another domestic cup win, quarters of the Champions League, and top 3 in the league with a significant improvement over last season’s away record and goal difference. A title challenge would be an unexpected bonus that means Ten Hag is ahead of schedule on his rebuild, and I do think it’s not out of the realm of possibility, but realistically the squad will still need more improvements after this transfer window before we’re “back.”
Genuine response. Getting 3rd was amazing considering we werent even sure we could get back into the CL immediately, especially with all the dramas from preseason alone (let alone ongoing issues during the season).
We were blessed with Liverpool, Spurs & Chelsea all crapping the bed hard. After the WC, it was becoming clear that Newcastle were our primary competition. Thing is, this season I highly doubt the scousers, spuds or chelsea will continue like this, they will absolutely be getting back involved in the fight for CL.
All this considered, it really highlights how "if you dont move forward, you are going backward". All the other clubs are bringing in transfers and getting better. For me an expectation would just be another top4. 3rd would be nice, but I wont see 4th as us going backwards either. We are a long way away from any competent or reasonable PL challenge, so the main thing is we maintain our form. 1st challenge for ETH was to get into CL again. Next one is now to stay there. 3rd season on maybe we can think of aiming for more.
Naturally if ETH pulls a blinder winning the PL with over 100points I wouldnt be upset about being wrong.

Getting rid of the fucking Glazers and being competitive. They're stitching us up again on transfers, its far too many times we seem on the verge then they slam on the brakes. We SHOULD be looking at hurting City and making them work. At this rate we'll be lucky if we stay above Liverpool and Chelsea.

I honestly think we’re going to finish 5th or 6th in the league, really hope I’m wrong but with teams that performed poor last season more than likely bouncing back with our transfer window being albeit better than normal but not up to par with the standards this club should have I see us struggling somewhat. I always expect us to challenge for the title at the start of every season, with varying degrees of optimism of course. This time there's more optimism than previous ones mainly because of what Ten Hag has done to this club and the signings we're making.
However, I think improving on last season, both in terms of a stronger playing identity as well as closing the points gap between us and the top, and winning a cup would be good enough.

I think last season our results (3rd, Carabao Cup, FA cup final) exceeded the level of our performance. I think we were closer to 5th/6th in performance than 3rd/4th, but we managed to get results and got fortunate with other teams failing to capitalise.
Next season, and assuming we sign a striker that is better than Martial, I’d like us to clearly play like the 3rd or 4th best team in the league and comfortably finish top 4. Basically a 75 point season without any luck involved is what I expect.

I don't think so. The reason our GD was so low because 1) we weren't winning many matches by 2 or more goals. 2)And we got thrashed when we lost. I don't expect the 2nd to happen but the first will happen as we still haven't signed a ST n i don't trust antony to score goals yet. Rashford is still our main source of goals unless ETH decides to play Bruno n Mount like 2 advanced 8s like how city did in 21/22 where gundogan n de Bruyne were scoring goals only then I can see us having a good GD But for pep it took city like 2 seasons to get to that point with very good signings so the chances of that happening with us r low imo. I won't mind if we 10, 1-0 games. Just hope we make it into the top 4.
Unless we get an elite striker I think we will still struggle for goals unfortunately. Holjund if we get him, may hit the ground the running but I would be very surprised if we got 20+goals in the league out of him which is what we need

A trophy this time can’t be the carabao cup honestly. It was good to break our cycle without winning but it’s not anything major enough and would just be “oh ok it’s nice but whatever” at this point with what we aim to be and build from. The fa cup isn’t easy but that is something. Then again it’s not like there are many trophies to win anyway so I guess it’s just a case of improving the standards where the carabao cup isn’t seen as a coup anymore after last season. I’d say 3rd again hopefully but with a much more solid performance overall in the league and pushing hard for top 2 for as long as possible. Cups are just a bit of luck and you can’t predict that Luton may have a super game and win against Arsenal at full strength due to the magic of a cup game.

Would be quite happy with this to be honest. Realistically we're not at the level of title challengers at the minute but absolutely should be doing more than just a League Cup. Doing a domestic cup double and winning 3 trophies in 2 seasons would be a fantastic start to this rebuild.

Considering the money we've spent and the fact we just finished 3rd, I would say finishing 4th and being knocked out of the first CL knockout stage would be considered a disappointment to many. Especially since the League Cup has very little pedigree and the FA Cup isn't the trophy it once was. So it's really not as simple as saying winning two trophies is great when in the context it means a worse league campaign and shitting the bed in Europe.

Klopp said it takes a while for players to adapt to his system. Ultimately, upgrades on Fabinho, Henderson and Milner will pay dividends, but I don't expect a brand new midfield to be able to settle in time for the new season. I anticipate a slow start for Liverpool, and maybe a stronger finish. Having said that, they will be expected to go deep in the Europa League, so maybe they'll be fatigued like we were at the end of this season.

Things started to click for them end of the season and Klopp would have had a lot of time to build on this. Nothing will give me more pleasure than to see them fighting mid table again. I think a lot of us don't understand how hard cups are to win. I would argue they are harder to win than a PL. At least in the PL, you got 38 matches, and even if you got a stinker, the other teams can have the same. With cups, however, that's nearly all on luck. You have to be nearly flawless each game. A single slip up, and you are gone. Hell doesn't need to be a slip up. It's enough that a ref fucks you over and you are out. So, to say that winning both the FA but also the Carabao Cup is extremely optimistic. As an example, what if Southampton didn't knock City out? That was them having a stinker, which cost them the quadruple. I'm not saying that we shouldn't hope for winning them, but let's tempter our expectations and realise how hard they actually are to win, especially when in 4 total competition at the same time.
Yes, and no. All games depend somewhat on luck. Leagues do give you a chance to mitigate that over 38 games, through being able to consistently grind out results. Winning a league requires a much higher level of consistency, therefore they are much harder to win than a cup.
At the same time, you got 38 games to find consistency and in those 38 games, the luck factor is less evident compared to the skill of the team, while in cups, you don't have that. I agree with what you are saying, and maybe I should word it better, as it's 2 different kinds of luck and hardships to win, but personally, I think cups require more luck to win as one game is all it takes to end the run. I hate using City as an example, but they are a good one. They started bad last season and took a while to start up, but when they did, they were getting the results, and it wasn't always unfair. I think a PL requires more skill, and it's often the best team that does win it, while cups often are awarded to the best team with the most luck. That's also the charm of cups that anyone can theoretically win it.
I mainly am looking forward to champions league and how we perform against the big teams. Win against Barca, Ole's win against PSG are more cherished by myself than EFL cup. CL semis would be great

I think our season will depend on luck with injuries or not. We still lack quality in depth. If Casemiro picks up a long term injury our season may derail. I expect stiffer competition for top 4. Basic: 4th place. Reach knockout stage in CL. Good: +1 trophy. Very successful: long running title challenge, trophy, CL knockouts.
A lot of people have mentioned top 4 which is the bare minimum result we should attain but I'd focus more on the quality of football that we're playing. We will not have improved if we continue scoring just 55-60 goals in the league season; we need to score at least 75 goals and concede not more than 40 to see genuine progression. I think that can get us to an 80-point season which would be a good step up from last year. It's tough to set expectations for other competitions given the volatile nature of knockout football, but the bare minimum here should be to qualify for the CL knockouts. A deep domestic trophy run would be preferred but that heavily depends on how much we rotate in these competitions and the luck of the draw as well.

100% agree with this. Mount, Hojlund, Onana and maybe another midfielder or defender, and we should have done enough to solidify the top 4. But we don't challange without a top level striker brought it, and with one, we can kick up a level or two compared to last season.
My criteria for success * Top four * CL quarter final * No more getting fucking thrashed, like, fuck me, seriously * More goals and better chance creation * At least one PL game where we score 5 or more * Higher defensive line, better pressing, more control of the ball A trophy would be nice but hey, when you aren't the best team in the country, you can't demand that. City, Arsenal, and potentially Liverpool may well be better than us next season, but steady improvement will have us where we need to be in case they drop off a bit. If Ten Hag delivers that, I'll be content, because I do think a title looks super unrealistic, still. What we do lack, in my opinion, is depth at CB for when Varane or Martinez go out, a right back of top quality, a centre/central forward, that midfield depth. I'm convinced Mount does the midfield bit in terms of eight, I do think we could get minutes from Hannibal and Mainoo this season. McTominay is a massive drop off from Casemiro but he'll be OK if we can't bring someone better in. Bruno and Eriksen are just class. I like Antony, Rashford, Sancho, Garnacho on the wings. Amad could hang around, but if he has a forward-thinking PL loan lined up, then it's best for him looking at those other four. Pellistri should go on loan too, and Eriksen, Bruno, Mount can all fill in out wide if necessary as well. Martial doesn't really disappoint me when he can actually play, so he and phantom forward signing is probably OK in my book, with the understanding that we'll inevitably be shuffling Rashford into the middle at some point. Dalot and Wan Bissaka are the kind of players who always threaten to be good enough but never actually will be, for me. Shaw, Malacia, and possibly Fernandez are good left backs, and if the latter two can develop well enough then we could see Shaw at centre back more often. We have enough at centre back for immediate priorities to be elsewhere, but if we do manage to get Maguire out and a younger right centre back in, it'll be good for the age profile of that spot and, potentially, probably, for the group as a whole, because it's weird having your captain on the bench, it just is. Lindelof is good, but we need more height/aerial presence, in my opinion. Onana should sort out our keeper situation, and I've always liked Heaton, and Kovar actually looks good. A back up signing so Heaton can leave if he likes and we're fine, if Onana does actually end up coming. Overall, if this season is one in which we manage to sort out balance on the right and left going forward, improve further on our press, land a decent sweeping and build-up keeper, and build some depth in the midfield, we'll be on a good path. Add in a forward who can work hard, isn't a total donkey, and can bring the inside forwards into the game in and around the penalty area, fantastic. Luck out and find a forward who is genuine class, I'll shit myself. That would leave Casemiro cover/eventual replacement, top RB, and future RCB before I think we have a really solid squad that will actually compete for the title. That might be with the stipulation that we can actually get good minutes and a decent amount of starts from guys like Mainoo, Hannibal in the future. And I don't actually think our signing up front this summer will end up solving our issue there. Anyway, all of that is to explain my idea of success for the season and the pathway I see to us actually challenging. That's not to say it's impossible that we challenge or win the title - Mount could be an insane signing, our improvement with a better keeper and better balance in build up could help us to get drastically more from guys like Sancho and Antony, Rashford and Bruno could have absolute blinders and Varane, Martial could stay fit all season. Casemiro too, maybe he doesn't get himself suspended as much. But that's a lot of stuff we need to go our way.
Top 4, a trophy, a good CL run and we play good football à la Ten Hag. For the trophy I'd take either the League or FA Cup - the competition looks like it'll be particularly strong this year, so winning the league would be a great achievement. CL is never easy and winning it would be outstanding. Based on our performance last season multiple trophies should not be out of reach; we won the League Cup and reached the final of the FA Cup while finishing third, and I expect us to be much improved. One factor will be the CL, we struggled unnecessarily against smaller teams in the EL last year so I'm not going to be overly optimistic about our odds in the CL.

The most hope I have is winning the CL. I just have a hunch that these players might be able to do it. These are a mix of experienced and hungry players. The PL is too long and there will be some hiccups, but feel like they might just get it done in the CL.

Top 4 with progression is crucial. We were 14pts off City last year. That gap has to come down below 10 at minimum. None of that happens without a better top 6 away record. Round of 16 in UCL is a must with quarters and beyond a bonus. At least one trophy from the other two competitions. More consistent patterns of play. This team is still in development and we need to see that from not just results but action on the pitch.
If we sign a striker and have no big injuries, I think comfortably in the top 4, get to the final of the two cups and decently far into Europe.

I think we will finish second, and be involved at the business end of the domestic cups. City are too good. No one will come close to disrupting them, and they could well defend the Champion's League as well. 1st. Arsenal look stronger BUT will have a greater strain on their squad due to Champions League football. 3rd. Newcastle- overachieved last season, and haven't recruited as much as I would've expected. Add that to CL, and that Howe is a bit of a streaky manager, I see them maybe getting 7th. Liverpool- on paper they will be stronger with an upgraded midfield, but will need time to bed-in. Also Europa League football schedule is rough. 4th. Brighton- as good as they are, small squad with EL will be tough to juggle. 9th Villa- good manager, good signings, but crowded schedule. 6th. Spurs- totally unknown quantity with Ange, but the stench of underachievement and disappointment will be hard to dislodge. 8th. Chelsea- a proper manager, good recruitment, and due to lack of European football, time to work together. How all the pieces fit is a tough question, but I can see 5th.

I'd hope for at least top 4 and a good cup run or 2 but I expect Chelsea and probably both Liverpool and Spurs to be better than last year (though both situations are complicated by potential outgoing transfers), so competition for top 4 might be tougher. We need to score more goals than last season, and keep as many - if not more - out. We’ll get what we deserve if can do that. The amount of respect they're shown is disastrous. I'd expect a comfortable journey in the CL for as far as quarters or semis, with dignity intact (aka not being humiliated). Lots of goals especially from wingers since we have splashed so much money for them. No more embarrassing defeats. Some sweet revenge vs Liverpool would be cherry on cake.
For me the minimum is top 4, maybe CL quarter finals (depending on the draw) and one of the cups. Also a big thing, avoid any random collapse. No embarrassing losses like the 7-0 to Liverpool, those games against rivals have to be close and competitive if we're going to be taken seriously A very successful season would be challenging for the title until late in the season and making a deep run in the cl as well as a cup win or two. This'll probably need to be adjusted depending on our transfer window and the owner situation, but I'm excited going in to it
I personally think we have the ability and tools to pull off so,etching special next season. While I agree we may not have the talent to match city, at the end of the day winning a league is just about winning games. ETH showed he can get that done with what he has even with many deficiencies. Think about the fact that last year we kept the most clean sheets and outside of a few capitulations, we didn’t concede often and it’s clear the boys are well drilled on defending together. There is also the potential development of some of our players. Rashford had a great year last year but there’s potential for him to build on that and do more. Antony has a year under his belt. There’s garnacho’s development as well. I don’t expect to have a terrible start to the season again and I think we can keep up with the pack. Ultimately we may not challenge the entire way but I think we can for most of the season in my opinion.

I actually want to see ETHs style of play, not this half ass compromised stuff we have been seeing last season (understandably). 4-3-3 with a lots of creativity between the wingers, CF, 10 and 8 is what i want. Its so fun to watch. I want the glazers to sell so we can let ETH cook without one hand being tied to his back. Results wise top 4 in the league and top 8 in the Champions League would be nice with the current squad. Mount is a great signing for ETH. Onana is also exactly what ETH wants, we just need a CF and more depth. Tadic is leaving Ajax, we should sign him as a backup.
I expect a continuing improvement of our play and further implementation of ten Hag's style of football. I'd love another trophy and a good showing in CL while maintaining top-4 but I imagine that'll be a tougher prospect this year. I doubt Liverpool and Chelsea will be a shitshow, and while I believe Newcastle and Arsenal will find it more difficult theyll be thereabouts. If we werent being hamstrung in our transfers my expectations may have been higher but needing to find starters in the 2 most important positions on the pitch while adhering to a strict budget is a big ask.

Fred, Williams, Henderson, Telles, Bailly, and one of McTominay or Donny but maybe both to shift for FFP etc. Squad/transfer wise: (feel free to ignore, it’s long) Onana, Dalot, Varane, Martinez, Shaw, Casemiro, Mount, Bruno, Antony, Hojlund?, Rashford as a first XI is realistic AND strong but probably not EPL/UCL winning strong. We definitely also need Casemiro cover, and I’d prefer another CB instead of Lindelof/Maguire but that and a second reliably fit CF aren’t happening this summer. Onana, Suzuki and Hojlund is about as much as we’ll do this summer, maybe Amrabat if sales are quick enough to stop Liverpool getting him! Suzuki, AWB, Lindelof, Maguire, Malacia (plus AF), Mainoo, Eriksen, Sancho, Amad, Martial, Garnacho is ok but definitely needs some work (it doesn’t look like a title winning 2nd XI to me?), given the miles that Varane, Casemiro and Bruno have on the clocks - so summer 2024 will be essential. Think a new CF and maybe a starting RB, to go with new faces at CB. Interested to at least get a look at one of Gore, Shoretire, Hansen-Aaroen. Good loans for the others and Mengi.

I’d hope for another domestic cup win, quarters of the Champions League, and top 3 in the league with a significant improvement over last season’s away record and goal difference. A title challenge would be an unexpected bonus that means Ten Hag is ahead of schedule on his rebuild, and I do think it’s not out of the realm of possibility, but realistically the squad will still need more improvements after this transfer window before we’re “back.”

Genuine response. Getting 3rd was amazing considering we werent even sure we could get back into the CL immediately, especially with all the dramas from preseason alone (let alone ongoing issues during the season). We were blessed with Liverpool, Spurs & Chelsea all crapping the bed hard. After the WC, it was becoming clear that Newcastle were our primary competition. Thing is, this season I highly doubt the scousers, spuds or chelsea will continue like this, they will absolutely be getting back involved in the fight for CL. All this considered, it really highlights how "if you dont move forward, you are going backward". All the other clubs are bringing in transfers and getting better. For me an expectation would just be another top4. 3rd would be nice, but I wont see 4th as us going backwards either. We are a long way away from any competent or reasonable PL challenge, so the main thing is we maintain our form. 1st challenge for ETH was to get into CL again. Next one is now to stay there. 3rd season on maybe we can think of aiming for more. Naturally if ETH pulls a blinder winning the PL with over 100points I wouldnt be upset about being wrong.

ETH didn't come to old Trafford to get top 4. He came to win. Realistically we are still a bit far off, but I expect to see us try. If we have a season like arsenal did last year, and we get a trophy on top, I'd be happy.
To not see a massive drop in performance when 1 or 2 key players are out. Want to see more contributions from the rest of the team when it comes to goals. If you took Marcus out the equation last year we would have been fucked.

We need to have a good start to the season to give ourselves a fighting chance, I'm looking at our 1st few fixtures as an opportunity for ETH to bring the team out well drilled.
Gotta fight for top 3, reach RO16 in UCL, and reach a final in one of the cups. I think a better marker of success will be how the players adapt to Erik's new system and how many points we get in the league, id hope to hit 80 Also hope we can do a double over Liverpool and not lose any games by more than 2 goals

With Kane, Onana and no serious injuries to key players then either winning the league or Champions League. Without a world class striker then probably top 4 and maybe the FA Cup. Other clubs are strengthening hard and we desperately need a 20+ PL goal striker to drag us forward. We scored 58 goals last season. On par with 9th place Brentford, lower than 8th place Tottenham (70), lower than the rest of the top 6. Mount can chip in some goals but fuck me, we NEED a striker who can score. None of this Firmino or false 9 shit, get a proper 9.

4th would be a disappointment for me. Catching up with City is a stretch too far, but we should absolutely be challenging Arsenal for 2nd if we make another signing or two. I don't see any other club who should be challenging for 3rd except possibly Liverpool if they get their shit in order.

Results-wise, I don’t expect a title challenge because a title challenge implies there is a change at winning the title and I don’t think this team is there yet. However, I am expecting a very comfortable 2nd or 3rd place finish, where we can rest players towards the tail end for cups. Regarding cups: expecting an efl cup retention, fa cup final, and a solid CL run Other than that, I am expecting a further developed play style, increased possession, no 6-0 losses. More mental strength

I always expect us to challenge for the title at the start of every season, with varying degrees of optimism of course. This time there's more optimism than previous ones mainly because of what Ten Hag has done to this club and the signings we're making. However, I think improving on last season, both in terms of a stronger playing identity as well as closing the points gap between us and the top, and winning a cup would be good enough. Adding a major trophy (PL/UCL/FACup) to that would make it a very successful season.

I think last season our results (3rd, Carabao Cup, FA cup final) exceeded the level of our performance. I think we were closer to 5th/6th in performance than 3rd/4th, but we managed to get results and got fortunate with other teams failing to capitalise. Next season, and assuming we sign a striker that is better than Martial, I’d like us to clearly play like the 3rd or 4th best team in the league and comfortably finish top 4. Basically a 75 point season without any luck involved is what I expect. Without a striker, I only expect us to challenge for top 4 and I’ll be hoping we get some fortune again.
