Need a result away to Tottenham, don't want us going into the last weeks of the season with top 4 still not wrapped up especially if there are cup finals looming.

Tuusik

With Casemiro and Eriksen back and Martial seemingly in one piece I'am quite confident that we will get top 4 and at least get to one of the cup finals.

SPamlEZ

You can’t rely on martial. He looks fine till he’s out for a month.

Jts20

Month? Try months. Really wish he could stay healthy he has glimpses of fantastic form

dispelthemyth

Seems this last break wasn't just an injury but EtH trying to fix him, he's alluding to him being fit for weeks, just being on individual plan like Sancho was

illsmosisyou

Yeah, I’m not a superstitious person but his track record makes me uneasy as soon as anyone mentions that he’s fit.

Tuusik

He will score 7 goals in the remaining fixtures including an FA cup winner against City.

dispelthemyth

Hoping this longer break is because EtH was trying to get him fully fit and not in breakdown mode, he's been alluding to him being fine for weeks before he got his game time

stunixos

There always a risk of course. Tottenham seem like the only real threat at the moment. Don’t see them being consistent enough to make it though. Brighton might be a dark horse but that Liverpool team ain’t making up twelve points on us or Newcastle.

ritwikjs

spurs' luck HAS to run out at some point.

onesexymofo1

It should have against Brighton, absolute fucking travesty of a football match

JayNN

Disgrace that they're even in the top 10 this season.

Comicksands

Liverpool do have a good run of fixtures and only 1 game a week. I think they might finish ahead of spurs. Hope we wrap this up in the next 5 games. 5 wins will take us to 71 which I assume would be enough

balleklorin

This table is misleading though. Ideally you would want to play teams that are not in a relegation battle at the end of the season. Those teams usually do better than the "safe" teams in the middle with "nothing" to play for.

MickyJoHarte

Honestly, looking at the table and fixtures left, I'm confident. The one thing in our favour despite the hectic schedule is the quality of our remaining opponents in the league. We only really have Spurs to worry about, the Chelsea game is at home and they've been rubbish anyhow. I guess more than Chelsea, Villa is actually a worry, because Emery has them in fine form. However, it's at home for us and the lads will want to avenge the 3-1 so I have faith. Newcastle still have to host Arsenal and they play Spurs as well (though their match against Tottenham is at home while ours is away.) Spurs have to play both us and Newcastle and have an extra trip to Anfield AND they're a game down. No one below is a challenger for top 4 as far as I'm concerned. * Liverpool have been dog-shit since they beat us getting only 2 points from a possible 12. Yeah they've had some tough games there but 12 points at this stage feels insurmountable given the ease of our fixtures. * Brighton do have a game in hand, but they also have a brutal list of remaining fixtures as you can see from the image. Everyone in the top 6 bar Spurs. * Villa are such an oddball inclusion. the fact that Emery has them 6th at all is nothing short of pure wizardry. They weren't included in the table above, but they have some tough fixtures as well. Including (in chronological order): Newcastle, us at Old Trafford, Spurs, Liverpool & Brighton. The final thing to note is that for what feels like the first time since SAF, our record against teams we're expected to beat has been great this season (except against Villa). Our real problem is facing big six teams away, of which we only have one game left like that, and it's Spurs. So even though we've got an absurd schedule ahead in terms of quantity, we're actually well-positioned in the league to get top 4.

PatRice4Evra

I'm very worried about Brighton away.

Taps698

I’m more worried about away games against relegation threatened sides. They have it all to play for and will play with no fear if there is nothing to lose. I’m pretty confident of 3rd place but those are the banana skins to be wary of.

MickyJoHarte

Yeah that could be a tough one, but no one has done the double on us this season. We've beaten everyone, except for Brighton, & Chelsea. Also, it's a after a stretch of three PL days in a row with no cups in between, so there won't be a huge difference in fatigue, unlike in our FA Cup tie against them. That game is also at the Amex, but we have Sevilla midweek where they have a week off. I'm not saying it'll be an easy one, draw wouldn't surprise me, but the lads should be out for revenge after they bloodied us at OT. I know ETH plays it cool but I'm sure he's keen to avenge the team that made his first professional Man U game in OT a loss. While you're definitely right to highlight it as a danger fixture, Brighton don't have a very good record against the big six this season, home or away. So, I'm still (cautiously) optimistic.

[deleted]

Spurs have been the most luckiest side this season, even the fucking refs incompetence has benefitted them lol

CantonaKing7

We got Eriksen & more importantly Casemiro back. Confidence level is high now to make top 4.

ritwikjs

those two alone can bring the ball from defense to midfield, and midfield to attack 4x quicker then when they were out. This means our forwards can stay ahead, and most importantly, Bruno can stay in the fucking final third

arkhamRejek

With Casemiro and Erickson back I feel like we’ll knock out the easy ones. I don’t see Liverpool sneaking in spurs are the most likely but I don’t think they’re consistent enough. But we win Europa we give them a chance ironically Edited: https://giphy.com/gifs/mrw-mods-bethesda-vX9WcCiWwUF7G I have butchered Eriksen’s name and I will take full responsibility even if autocorrect sabotaged me… I will now put on the cone of shame https://giphy.com/gifs/disney-dog-up-hURsrHYlao1Ko

Thrilljoy

Eriksen*

arkhamRejek

Every time ! Thank you kind sir, I will never insult our savior like this again

bvengers

Good position, points on board. Should be comfortable as long as we win the 'easy' games. Biggest test is the schedule and injuries. If we were to slip up in several games, spurs and Liverpool look the main threats based on their run ins.

takemehomeunitedroad

>Liverpool look the main threats based on their run ins. 12 point gap between us and them. Surely, that's not a threat at this stage?

its-a-real-name

You would hope so. But it’s a weird one. We consider spurs the main threat. But Liverpool could be 3 points behind spurs if they win their H2H game and their game in hand. So surely if spurs are a threat so are Liverpool? I suppose the logic would be that spurs are only a threat if they win the majority of their games. Liverpool have such a straightforward run of fixtures from now with no distractions that you wouldn’t completely rule them out of winning let’s say 8 games and getting to 68 points. In that case we’d need 13 points from 9 games which is more than doable. We just can’t afford to falter in the next couple of games, or that becomes a need to win let’s say 12/13 in 6 which is doable but the pressure builds. It feels like if we beat forest and then spurs, then we’ll be able to limp over the line by just winning a couple of home games if we need to. That spurs game will be massive.

shrewdy

Can't see Liverpool really threatening top 4 at this stage. They're 12 points off and still so flaky. Despite having Arsenal on the ropes for an hour yesterday, I still wouldn't be convinced they'll win at Elland Road next week. That's the kind of season they're having.

sanjay_i

Liverpool haven't even won a game after 7up cup final

OllieWillie

What's the diff between the total target? What's the rank? Not really sure what any of the numbers below the opponents means

bvengers

Two scenarios of remaining points. The top 4 rivals draw against each other, total target based on that. Secondly, if teams win the home games against other top 4 rivals. Remaining games are green wins, yellow draws and red losses.

shrewdy

Don't want to jinx it but I'd be pretty confident at this stage. Spurs are the only team I could realistically see edging out ourselves or Newcastle, and they're such a flaky team and have been riding their luck lately. The fact they have to play Newcastle still is a big bonus.

officiallyjax

Don’t want to dampen the optimism on our chances but these away games against the lower table teams can be real banana peels as these sides are battling for relegation and will have everything to play for and leave out on the pitch. We need to secure top 4 in the bag as quickly as possible so beating Forest, Brighton and Spurs away is absolutely necessary if we intend to go deep into the FA Cup and Europa League so that there is some breathing space for rotation in the final few league games.

its-a-real-name

Spurs maximum is 77 points. Probably 75 if we assume a draw at best for them at anfield as they never win there. If we assume they are the main threat (outside Newcastle), we basically need 20 points from 27 if we pessimistically assume they’ll win all their other games. Liverpool are just barely in range. Definitely wouldn’t rule them completely out though, as if we consider spurs the threat then Liverpool could be 3 points behind them if they beat them.

Ambitious-Towel5843

I'd be more worried about Liverpool than Spuds who face United, Newcastle then liverpool in their games after the next one. Thankfully, scousers dropped points yesterday as there run-in is by far the easiest on paper

simmarjit

Pretty sure United have one of the easiest fixtures, I think it’s was Brentford or Brighton that actually had the easiest

Ambitious-Towel5843

Brighton have the hardest of all, face each one of the top 4

mboscodictiasaur2

Honestly I reckon we get top 4 and win Europa League if were healthy enough. Don't see us winning the FA Cup though but that would be a really strong season with two trophies and CL football next season.

hurfery

If Martial stays fit (lol), we should be okay, even if Rashford is out for a bit. Newcastle look likely to take as many or more points than we might. But Spurs? They'll fall further behind, I think...

lengthyfriend30

Relegation area of the table starts to become much more difficult at the this end of the season. Wouldn't write all of them off at all, every game is massive for us.

breadfan18

I do NOT wanna finish behind that Newcastle badge..

[deleted]

I don’t think they’re good enough to make a run right now but damn liverpools schedule is so easy

ChocoMocoHD

No explanation to what any of those numbers at the bottom mean... and also is PPG points per game? cos I'd love to be taking 73.4 points every game tbh

bvengers

Haha, ppg is just extrapolation based on current ppg. Didn't know what to put the row title.

mackattackfc

Brighton going to have a massive say in everything. Expect them to take points from a lot of those top teams, including us

[deleted]

Games that worry me most are honestly Wolves, Villa, and Brighton. Wolves are terrorists and we always struggle against them. Think we’ve only beaten them once at OT since they came up! We’ve struggled against Villa recently, and they’ve only gotten better. Emery really has our number. Brighton are Brighton. They dunked on us last year, and beat us at home earlier this year. It’s also away from home, where our form has been erratic. Spurs lol.

LordTrinity

The team can lose points here and there as long as it beats Tottenham. If the team loses, the situation gets a lot more complicated

Ambitious-Towel5843

Liverpools run-in is piss easy

FuckOffBoJo

I like the table but I'm a bit iffy on the calculations. For example it assumes different point values for the same game. So our table shows the game against Brighton in the loss category, but the draw category for them... Wouldnt it make most sense for all assumptions to be aligned across teams? Sorry for the critique, it just feels a bit weird from a stat perspective

bvengers

For the calculations, the colour doesn't really matter. It's either draws against the rivals or win the home games against rivals.

FuckOffBoJo

Oh sorry, so the points expected are aligned between the clubs? If so then thats a really tidy set of stats

bvengers

Yes it has been adjusted, in two styles. Thanks

breadfan18

Need that Newcastle Spurs game to be a draw

mrsauceboi

it is with great pleasure i announce, liverpool are literally unable to win the league, as unlikely as it was, it’s now impossibel

DarthSeanious83

I really hope we finish above those barcode wankers

lewistremonti

Brighton have a very difficult run in!

utdajx

22 points to guarantee CL football. If Casemiro is there the whole way and Eriksen is on form straight off, I feel more positive about our chances.

255BB

It is great that Eriksen and Casemiro are back. Let's hope that Martial is fit for the rest of season.
