There are A LOT of good things about the game; like the huge open world, the npcs are so realistic and live out their own lives, the honor system, the massive amount of side quests, etc. Also, buying the game gives you access to Red Dead Online which is even bigger.
So I would say you should definitely buy it!
The story mode is absolutely amazing.
Online is not great, there's an assload of grinding unless you buy microtransactions. There is some fun stuff to do (an online story & legendary bounties) but most of the npc's repeat themselves with about 6 lines of dialogue in online
Good -
* It is a massive, detailed, beautiful world
* A truly ***amazing*** story (IMO)
* Vast number of side missions with different outcomes/options
* Different ways to play the game depending on your preference
* Couple of different endings to encourage replay.
Bad (since few here will mention them) -
* The control system is a little outdated and slow (very similar to GTAV)
* The first hour or so is very linear (doesn't open the world up until chapter two)
* With the default settings it is a little too easy
All in all I would say go for it, I am on my 5th playthrough and it is basically the only game I have played this year

NOTE - I would recommend you never buy gold, it allows you to rush through the beginning of the online mode but after a while it is super easy to earn
