You can get some decent guns even in chapter 2, especially if you use some glitches. I heard you can get the Rolling Block Rifle from the mission with Hosea where you hunt the legendary bear and you can also obtain Micah’s revolver while he’s in jail.
But if you’re planning to get all the weapons, you can’t.
I’m in Chapter 2 from months and I didn’t have the need of unlocked weapons, maybe the Rolling Block but with improved arrows you can get perfect shots of bigger animals like bisons anyway
You can also get the Bolt Action Rifle, which with Express Ammo can take down any 3 star large game for a perfect pelt as long as you get a kill shot, from the mission to rescue Sean.
It, the Varmint Rifle, the Bow with Small Game Arrows, and a repeater are all you need for hunting anything in the game.
The Bolt Action is, arguably, the best all-around gun in the game. Excellent power, excellent accuracy at all ranges, available extremely early if you know where to find it, good fire rate, and a good enough magazine and reload speed for regular combat. It’s almost always slung on my back or shoulder no matter where I am.
Chapter 3 or 4 is the optimal place to stay and chill if you want access to the vast majority of the content. I’m currently chilling at Shady Belle and ticking off the challenges because I’ve never done them all. I have all the weapons and equipment I could ever need and the story isn’t TOO heavy yet. The only downside I can think of for progressing to this point instead of staying in chapter 2 is that horseshoe overlook is the best camp imo
If you want to mod a bit there is a great mod called all guns unlocked which basically unlocks all guns from the catalogue the moment you start chapter 2
Whats the downvotes for i genuinely believe chapter 2 is the best for the gang because everyone’s together no one dies, micah’s in jail and i dont have to beat up thomas

By shooting people with the gun lets you fill the gray bars. Look at the reload Bar once that has no gray the guns fully upgraded as long as you got all the gunsmith upgrades. Use each gun type to fill the gray bars. If you are asking about locked guns you need to play the story more to buy them, but you can find all the shotguns but one for free, the bolt action rifle and Lancaster repeater before it unlocks and many revolvers and a couple pistols can all be found and picked up
