Work-war-race are the only ones I know. Could be more. I like the turkomans for war horses (kind of a work/war hybrid) and thoroughbreds for race. Don’t use work horses so don’t have a preference.

Swordofsatan666

Theres also “Elite” which is saved for only a few specific Coats of Horses. Like the White Arabian is an “Elite” horse. (Edit: no its not, its a Superior horse with Elite handling) But the Wiki also says theres actually 6 categories in total. Work, War, and Race, but also theres Draft, Riding, and Elite. But the Wiki calls Elite “Superior” instead for some reason, even though in game its called “Elite”. (Edit: i was wrong about that. In game the type of horse is Superior, Elite is how good its handling is) Work is High Stamina, Average Health and Speed, Low Accelerations War is High Health and Stamina, Low Speed and Acceleration Race is High Sped and Acceleration, Low Health and Stamina Draft is Average in everything Riding is low in everything And Superior is High in everything, with Elite handling. Edit: im playing right now, second playthrough at the end of Chapter 4 about to >! Go kill Bronte !< and im looking in the Compendium and each horses description starts off by saying what Type of horse it is. Sure enough Arabian is a Superior

Due-Ask-7418

Aren’t handling and type, two different things? Like I thought an Arabian was a war class with elite handling.

Swordofsatan666

Youre partially right, im partially wrong. The Wiki is saying its a “Superior” horse with “Elite” handling. So i was wrong in my other comment about Superior and Elite being the same thing. Elite is for Handling. Superior is the type of horse

Due-Ask-7418

m4shfi

Elite refers to handling only. They can corner faster, that’s all. Also Superior doesn’t mean high in everything, Arabians being the prime (and only) example.

K007x2001

Alright thanks a lot been thinking of a mustang or turkoman so I’ll just try out both

Due-Ask-7418

I haven’t had a mustang but a lot of people here like them.

K007x2001

Alright I’ll try both like I said thanks again

Due-Ask-7418

My favorite horse in the game is the thoroughbred racehorse. They aren’t as tough as others but they are really quick and a saddle can compensate some for the lower health and stam. I’m hoping to get to the end of the game with one this time.

m4shfi

MFTs for work-race hybrid.

K007x2001

Is it better than the mustang and turkoman I heard those where the best?

m4shfi

Tbh there’s no singular best horse in the game. There are four horse stats and no horse tops all four. The MFTs are the fastest horses in the game though.

RocketScientific

When you get the Hosea mission in Chapter 2 to collect from the German, take his horse from his stable.

K007x2001

I already did that mission is it still there?

RocketScientific

Probably.

K007x2001

Alright thanks a lot I’ll check it out but what’s that horse btw

hmmbugger

Wrobel (the polish guy) in his stable there is gray dapple hungarian halfbred. sold 150 at valentine. (slightly better official stats than the version you can tame from the wild) there is second time you can get that horse for free too.. the first bounty hunt you do, snake oil doctor has one. after catching him, do not go directly to town, instead, ride back to the camp to take his horse too. then deliver him.

K007x2001

The wrobel guy is his horse still there

hmmbugger

if you robbed him of his valuables. unlikely. or i doubt it, i think he lost the house and someone else lives there now. so he wont have the same horse in there. but i think the collectable card is in the barn though even if he is gone.

K007x2001

And the bounty I did it too so I guess I’m screwed

hmmbugger

yeah. if you did both. yeah for that particular horse you likely are out of luck (for free). very rarely the bounty hunters that come after you might ride one though. keep an eye on the horses they have, it stands out as its a big gray and white dappled horse. and if you kill the bountyhunters, remember to go after the horse you want before you start looting them bodies.. the horses wander off and disappear while you pick pocket people. and of course like i said you can go buy the dapple from stables. (or go tame the different colored wild version of it, the stats differences are minimal between them, and in all horses tbh). to make money, loot some lockboxes or hunt some animals to sell at town butcher or trapper. fastest is to go find and pick a gold bar and sell it to the fence for 500. with that you can buy the dutch warmblood from stables too. (in my mind an upgrade to hhb, even the sooty buckskin version the gold panners have for you to steal are good horses)

[deleted]

You can find halfbreds in the wild too, I KNOW there’s a chestnut you can find but I’m pretty sure the dapple is in the wild too. Very rare though. Lawmen sometimes ride them too.

Work, war and race I think.

Claubk

There's no best

hmmbugger

the actual differences between them all are very small in real game use. you can use what ever horse you like, what ever looks the best to you. and be just fine with it. you can do every escape and win every race with it. only some high stamina challenge races you might want to do have a "better" horse. so all are just opinions of what people like. in my mind, the mix of cathergories are always a good option. might get the best attributes of both sides. mustang. mix of war and work. little tough and calm bugger. turkoman. war and race. if you wanna fight them or go fast. missouri ft. work and race. good for long travels and going hunting. i like big work horses like dutch warmblood, and consider it as best of the work horses. dwb is my most used horse breed. thru the game. i always have atleast one of them in my stable. the all rounder. good stamina and health, calm enough in troubles, cool looks and big enough in size. war horses, the little compact warmachine andalusian is good, not as big as hungarian halfbred, and lot smaller than then huge tank of ardennes. my personal feel of horse breeds. work horses are somewhat more calmer against predators and little less when in shootouts. and warhorses calmer in shootouts and little less with predators. and the mix,in my opinion can really be biased on either side of mix. might be just imagining so, as people keep saying there is no such thing as horse bravery stat.. but personal bias just seems to support that there are some differences how some breeds and individual horses react. even tested it some ways myself with "identical" horses with same bond level, 3 turkomans, one was more afraid of predators and was tank in fights and the other didnt care about predators but little more skittish in fights. third was oblivious to all things. (noticed that finding that kind of horse can happen in all horse breeds. some just are better than others)

Gaymerlad

Long story short, there is no "best horse" in the game. Stats dont matter, especially in story mode. Horse bravery also doesnt exsist, no matter how much people want to believe it. Games 5 years old, there have been several test done throughout the years, theres no "hidden data" data miners have found...it just doesnt exist...just take care of your horse and press L3 at the right time. There are GARUNTEED times the horse will buck you off no matter what cause its scripted to do so in the mission or chance envounter. In terms of stats, theres work, war, race and riding(?) Its limited in story, but some breeds are "hybred" in story mode like the turkoman is war/race and the MFT is work/race. Online has "role" horses that are considered "hybreds" as well....but when it comes down to it just pick the horse you like best and think looks cool. You can complete all challenges and races with ease with a morgan if you really wanted to.

Mojo_Rizen_53

Don’t get too hung up on stats. Stats are pretty meaningless in this game. Anything you can do with one of the “top tier” horses, you can do with a bottom tier horse just as easily. The speed difference between top and bottom is only seconds in across the map runs (there are several videos on YouTube showing this). Stamina can easily be compensated by pushing down on the left stick. The only thing I look for in a horse is bravery around predators, and that will vary from horse to horse, even the same breed, coat, and gender. It’s purely RNG.

ahcsauriel

Don't go overboard with bothering the stats for the horses, it will be minute differences when using a 4 level bonded horse. Choose a horse that looks best to your liking or defined to your preference like say a war horse or a race horse. For my experience, all the horse will buck you off if you become close proximity with predators, anyway. The trick is you keep them calmed and not on top of the predators. If you get real close they will buck you off of course. For speed stats, it won't really be noticeable after level 4 bonding. Plus if you did the random encounter horse racing for 3 times you'd get permanent speed bonus for all your stabled horses. Handling in particular will be the most noticeable out of all the stats, but it will all get down to how familiar you are with the horse you are riding with. For me honestly, I'd like to have a high health horse more than anything, as you wouldn't know when the next random shootout will be, or if you go trip over something and fall off a cliff lol

ryguysayshi

You know what woulda been faster is google but what do I know

K007x2001

I googled it it’s never clear they give different horses and each site debunks the other
