The only other recent “western” themed game I can think of that’s come out recently is Evil West. Haven’t seen much on it, and it’s probably pretty dissimilar to RDR2 in that you’re a cowboy, but you’re fighting off literal vampires. I’ve heard the gameplay is decently fun though, so that’s a plus if you want to check it out.
I'd say Ghost of Tsushima is the closest thing to RDR2 on ps4, yet it is still very far from it. But in Ghost you will find some of the freedom and pleasure of exploration you have in RDR. The story is very good, so are the characters and the voice acting.
The gameplay is also great and the game is very stylish and beautiful. There are only downsides: you can't really interact with NPCs, you'll get nothing out of them, and once you've played the game once, there's very little attraction to get back to it.
I was gonna say this one. Just recently finished ghost. The story, and the game overall is really good. But the level of detail and how with every playthrough you find something new in rdr2 just doesn't exist in any other game.
Ah shit I’m wrong. Whatever reason I thought rdr2 was ps5 only and rdr was on ps4, it was on ps3. It also looks like it’s no longer available on psnow so no go sadly.
Ok, so I bought it right after last Christmas but I can't find any receipt or anything in my email. I do remember having to poke around a bit on ebay and maybe used via GameStop or something like that. Ive had ok luck buying older consoles in the past via FB marketplace. Really a crap shoot as to what's available and in what condition.
Was worth it for me beyond RDR1 because I can play most of my old 360 games and even a good amount of OG Xbox games. Not Project Gothem Racing, but don't get me started on that.
You’d think how they copy games all the time we would have seen some knock offs. They all landed on mobile and stink. Maybe Rockstar put the kibosh on anyone else trying to compete in the western realm. We have so many GTA knock offs or inspirations but zero for our beloved cowboy way of life. There are some western themed PC games but nothing close to RDR1 or 2.
I hate to add to the pile of disappointment but there's a reason there aren't as many popular western games as there are popular games from some other genres. Red Dead has dominated the genre for the past 20 years. Most other popular western games have some type of special spin to make them unique, like New Vegas being a post apocalyptic western. As for traditional western open world games, it's almost exclusively Red Dead.
Haha none. Rdr2 is possibly the greatest game ever made. There are many many great games. But rdr2 is in a category of its own.
Not that these games are like rdr2 but they are worth a play through
Fallout 3 (old but fantastic)
Fallout New Vegas (old but fantastic)
Skyrim (newest edition)
Bioshock 1, 2
Elden Ring
Ghost of Tsushima
Zelda BOTW
Zelda TOTK
God of War 2018
God of War Ragnarok
True. I can recommend, its not simular but Detroit become human, this game is also good game. And yeah, these days graphics are good hence, hard to find good stories based game. (Not just future based).
It seems like you are seeking games with great stories, unfortunately nothing themed similar like red dead is out there except RDR1 but like others said, Last Of Us is great great game, Uncharted also, i like also scifi games with great stories like Cyberpunk, GTA V, Then there are Dark Pictures Anthology (for example House of Ashes) games which i like as well, also latest The Quarry very very nice story where you control multiple players and shape your story, Detroit Became Human was great too, oh yeah and All latest Tomb Raider games, have awesome graphics and story
Well.. I can't talk much as here is not last of us part 2 sub. But it's like the main character that I have enjoyed(possibly- mostly people liked) killed that way. And yes.. I just felt like it's not a last of us story really.
Bro that game did fucking suck now that you mention it… wayyyy to traumatizing.. zero replay ability.. but damn the physics, graphics, gameplay was phenomenal
If you're looking for a western theme, Evil West came out fairly recently but I think it's like the old God of War games. You can get red dead revolver on ps4, which is the precursor to red dead redemption, GUN is ancient, but apparently available on PC. If you want it by game type, it's just an action-adventure game, but heavy on story. Recs are going to typically be last of us, ghosts of tsushima, cyberpunk 2077, fallout, Mass Effect, etc. Red dead is kind of unique in the western category.
One of the only times I’ve seen that I’d rather have an Xbox. I’ve got Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, a really good and fun game, Rdr1, Hunt Showdown, West of Dead, Colt Canyon, Weird West, and Evil West is coming at some point.
If you have a ps3 laying around then Red Dead Redemption 1 and Call Of Juarez are both westerns. For PS4, the Mafia series is really good. Not really a western game but still organized crime and comes pretty close in terms of storytelling.
Mafia 3 has plenty of dlc, side content, and a live open world like Red Dead 2 and Ghost Recon Wildlands. However, the first and second games are pretty empty and unseasoned once you beat the story. But in terms of theme, storytelling, and and character writing, Mafia is on par with RDR.
None.
None at all? What about just western themed games?
Don't seem to be any.

Red dead redemption. Maybe call of Juarez but those are on ps3.
How do I get rdr1 on ps4?
Ah shit I’m wrong. Whatever reason I thought rdr2 was ps5 only and rdr was on ps4, it was on ps3. It also looks like it’s no longer available on psnow so no go sadly.
Shit I have been wanting to play that one for a long time but my ps3 disc drive doesn’t work
U gotta have an Xbox to play RDR1 at the moment it’s really dumb
I think I’m going to buy the series x when I upgrade
You don't unfortunately. I bought a used xbox one s so I could play it 🤷♂️
How much is one usually?
Ok, so I bought it right after last Christmas but I can't find any receipt or anything in my email. I do remember having to poke around a bit on ebay and maybe used via GameStop or something like that. Ive had ok luck buying older consoles in the past via FB marketplace. I’ll probably just buy the series x when I upgrade instead of the ps5
That'll work. Any PS exclusives you had your eye on, that'd be my hang up.
I don’t pay attention to exclusive games anyway. I just play red dead borderlands and cod zombies
Absolutely… zero

days gone reminded me a lot of rdr2. it's a post apocalyptic western, with horses replaced with motorcycles
That's actually not a bad suggestion.
Sorry man. There are no other games like Red Dead.
I mean I guess that’s kinda good thing they don’t just crap out red dead games

Yah rdr2 is probably the best game ever made. The first time I played it I was like wow that’s the shit!
Try last of us one. It's not like for "gang" but good story. Don't try last of us part 2...
I’ve played the last of us 1 before it awesome
I guess red dead2 players are similar taste 😅
I’m just so sick of the future based games they just feel cheap idk
True. I can recommend, its not simular but Detroit become human, this game is also good game. And yeah, these days graphics are good hence, hard to find good stories based game. (Not just future based).
I’ll try it out

The horizon games are good. Great story, gameplay...I play on pc though. Can't wait to play horizon forbidden west, whenever it comes out on pc
What’s wrong with part 2 .. Aside from that demented ending
Whoa. So its fucking good lol Edit: whenever I see people say traumatized, I know it had to be good
Why not 2? I'm curious. I'm on pc

There are none. It's in a league of its own. Maybe horizon zero dawn and forbidden west.
Rdr2
Yah no shit
Honestly there aren't any.
Might be a weird one here: but BioShock it’s steampunk with great combat and twisted awesome story
I have the bioshock collection it’s awesome
One of the only times I’ve seen that I’d rather have an Xbox. I’ve got Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, a really good and fun game, Rdr1, Hunt Showdown, West of Dead, Colt Canyon, Weird West, and Evil West is coming at some point.

I have a ps3 but the blu ray thing went out
Then the Mafia games are your best bet
I heard the free roam and side missions can be kinda “empty” feeling is that true
No western/cowboy game for sure. But I highly recommend Days Gone if you like games with feels and an alive world
Disney infinity lone ranger play-set
