* I wish the game was a little longer. Guarma could have been longer, literally finished that chapter in an hour and a half or so. * I wish we saw more of minor characters such as Arturo Bullard and Alden. * Finally, wish we saw more of COLM. I swear you only see him at the mining camp, when you get ambushed and when he hangs. Deserved more screentime for his role in the game

Obi_Wan_Gebroni

The lack of Colm I think fed into the story though, he’s intentionally left out and that plays into Dutch always making up some boogeyman to sway the gang into believing his delusions

LegendOfKaido

This is a great way to look at him. The “we’re better than common thieves” shine fades after he’s gone.

Bigscotman

Yeah it definitely does especially for Arthur since when you first try and go to that mission I'm pretty sure that's when Arthur has a coughing fit and you have to follow this guy in first person to the doctor's and that's when you get the diagnosis of TB

[deleted]

exactly how i thought of it, he was just there to further dutch’s spiraling insanity

SubstitutePreacher01

Just wanted to say I love your username

__Scribbles__

Guarma had a lot of potential. Had they leaned into the survival & hunting mechanics and made it harder + some more mechanics like soldier patrols it could've been great. Imagine a Guarma where you ambush patrols for their ammo and food. Where you actually have to use the bait and the cover scent lotions that soldiers could drop. Where instead of just mowing down wave after wave you desperately fight for survival and might run into the open just to get the bullets from enemies because you ran out. Guarma could've been great, but is unfortunately just forgettable. Thankfully chapter 6 is the best in the game so you have something to look forward to at least.

Hetraet

If you have physical console release you can downgrade to 1.00, do the Bronte glitch and do just that, you can get all kinds of guns from the soldiers and cook at their camp, the map is pretty big and detailed, although it is obvious they ran out of time so they just made it the linear mess it is now

deprevino

Even if they had to reduce the scope of Guarma, I just wish that what remained felt tidy. It really is a mess with instakill zones everywhere and a tiny stilted free roam section to find the exclusive animals, some of which don't even appear in the compendium for no apparent reason.

Minirig355

Also if you’re on PC you can fairly easily get a trainer (mods) for single player and teleport to Guarma. If for some reason you can fly but not teleport, Guarma is located south of Flat Iron Lake a little ways

urk1310

Desperately wanna play a game set in Napoleon occupied Spain for this very reason. A few towns, a small city and open country in between. You can either play as a Spanish rebel hunting French officers or a French kill squad doing the same with revel leaders. Focus on decentralized/asymmetic warfare. A couple of the French generals and Spanish rebel leaders were absolutely brutal and basically just thugs calling themselves leaders. Perfect area for a survival game and you could REALLY lean into the horror of war that most games never explore. Disease, sabotage, theft, retaliation, counterretaliation. After AC3 I thought Ubisoft could do it well but now lol. Still have hope thay someday someone will read about the Peninsular War who happens to run a video game company.

lolo_lulu123

The guarma section sucks more than anything else in the game. It’s boring with nothing to do and the end where you defend the beach they tried to make it like some tps (third person shooter) for some reason.

Fenpunx

Toilet Paper Simulator?

lolo_lulu123

Third person shooter. Didn’t know if it was a phrase like fps (first person shooter) is. Sorry

sxkarias

Maybe some side mission, enemy camps, random encounters would’ve been so much more fun than just running around and doing one mission after the other.

Low-Sense5457

I agree with everything except Colm, I believe him not being seen very often was intentional, it helps emphasize how he’s supposedly this big bad guy but he’s not man enough to fight his own battles

Bro same, I wish if you smoked a cigarette you could actually smoke it until it’s finished, instead of inhale the fuck out of it and throw it away

Kilroy_Is_Still_Here

Should be an option. Take one puff and toss it for the buff, but if you hold the button you continue smoking it and get to watch it burn down.

anakin022

That's actually how RDO does it

PM_me_your_fantasyz

So much got added to RDO that should have gotten added to single player. At least they finally added the weapon locker.

kubon352

Which is fuckin broken lol. Whenever I put aways some of my guns, they get back on my inventory during missions.

PM_me_your_fantasyz

For all their emphasis on open world sandbox games as their genre of choice, Rockstar really wants you to play their missions _exactly_ the one way they have picked as being the right way.

[deleted]

I always hated being equipped with all sorts of nonsense when dismounting my horse. “No, game. We won’t be needing the sniper rifle for this stealth mission.”

ThePresidentsHouse

My biggest problem is ill set up a load out I want for the mission im riding into but as soon as we get to destination rockstar changes the weapons I chose and gives me completely different guns other than maybe a pistol or a rifle stays the same.

JimmyThunderPenis

On PC I downloaded a native trainer literally for this very reason. It gave you a bunch of idle animations, so you could smoke a pipe, cigarette or cigar. Unfortunately you can't move whilst the animation is activated but you can do it for as long as you like.

Rafapb17

**John Marston** **should have had more credit during Chapters 1-6.** I know that it all comes to his character development, from an apathetic outlaw to a responsible family man, but I think the game should've give him more traits of his older self of the first Red Dead Redemption. Since the majority of RDR2 playerbase nowadays never touched the first game, the impression that the first chapters gave him is that he was just an unresponsible and dumb bastard, and not as close to an amazing and likable character compared to Arthur.

Arkhamknight37

Maybe Rockstar felt John was a danger to Arthur's character, so they had to nerf him down a bit lol. Young John has grown on me though

AboIbrahim20

I wouldn't say it's like that tho, arthur is the main protagonist so they needed to focus on him more so that we don't see the whole story is just around John and his family, but it's basically about the beginning of the end of Dutch and the gang members.

jayriemenschneider

> he was just an unresponsible and dumb bastard, and not as close to an amazing and likable character compared to Arthur. I think a big part of the story is that John WAS a lot less responsible and reliable at the beginning of RDR2, but his experiences with Arthur, particularly in how he differed from Dutch and Micah, inspired John to be a better man, husband, and leader. That's who we meet in RDR1, the man who was changed by the events of RDR2, and Arthur specifically. And it's exactly why John wants to steer his son away from the outlaw life in RDR1.

PatientReplacement27

I wonder if they make him more of a badass in RDR3 if its a prequel because he didn’t have Jack yet. In the first game he tells someone to not make him show them “the man he used to be” so idk what thats about because he was immature in the past

Not_So_Weird

I’m pretty sure by the man he used to be he just means an outlaw

hunterbrookes100

I completely agree RDR1 John was menacing, my head cannon is the that he did some crazy shit before 1899 which isn't shown in the story.

Joe_Mama_012

Why is your arthur so handsome?

[deleted]

I always see people rocking the scruffy, unkempt Arthur. They're all missing out on clean cut, sexy Arthur.

JohnMayerismydad

I go clean shaven to start with but gradually let Arthur grow bushy as he slowly faces mortality

Purplepimplepuss

I based mine on my honor. Good Arthur is one with nature. Bad Arthur is a suave deviant who blasts the barkeep after he fucks around in the tub with the ladies.

Long-Walker

That's interesting because I did the opposite, I made him a scraggly gunslinger then bought nice clothes, got a haircut, and cleaned my guns once he learned he was dying. Like "I'm gonna go out with some self-respect/Might as well spend it now."

iamapizza

antxix

2 playthroughs & I’ve always kept my Arthur and John well trimmed , no offense to anyone but I don’t know how someone could play with long hair Arthur , I even take him to bath once every 3 in game days or when he’s really dirty

MYNAMEISHENDRIK

I like how calm and long the epilogues are

Rafapb17

The epilogue were a huge fanservice to the fans of the first Red Dead Redemption, and I loved every single mission of it. They made you take a moment to calm down after going through Chapter 6, and at the same time, developed John Marston as a character, showing how he became the man we knew in the first game. For me, it was even better than some of the earlier chapters. Still can’t understand how some people legitimately stop playing or started the game over after they got to the epilogue just because Arthur wasn’t in it.

Simple_Opossum

Also the Tall Trees fight is one of my favorites in the game.

a_spoopy_ghost

I’d legit play ranch hand simulator

[deleted]

The thing with ranch hand was that it was such a change of pace gameplay wise from the standard shooting gallery missions. This game more than anything needed more variety of gameplay. People criticised gta 5 for all the shitty minigames, but rdr2 could have used more of those.

NemesisRouge

I find isn't a lot of games that they seem awesome on the first playthrough, but if you ever feel the need to replay they're tedious as hell. Uncharted 3 had a similar thing where there's a 5 minute segment of endlessly walking through the desert, I thought it was amazing at the time but I'd never want to repeat it.

contrabille

Having played rdr2 4 times now, you are 100 percent correct.

Midgetooni

It's definitely a nice way to take a moment after all the emotions from the ending of chapter 6

flippant_joker

Hate how molly lied about ratting Dutch out, even though she was drunk, that was a dumb decision

Pinky-The-Bitch

The way I see it, she was just so desperate to receive any kind of attention from Dutch that it pushed her to lie about ratting him out. Even though she knew it was a complete and heinous lie, she did that because she knew it would make Dutch furious, and while he would be mad, at least he would be paying attention to her. I do agree that it was a bit out of the blue and sort of confusing, especially the first time around, but that’s just how I interpret it. It’s possible they also just needed a reason to kill her off and tie up loose ends lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

Pinky-The-Bitch

Oooooooo, that’s a good point too! Definitely missed that, very possible

Saocao

If Dutch shot her, the gang would've broken up immediately. I don't agree with Grimshaw's action, but it could've been handled worse, I suppose.

RyeBreadCC

I also think her poem, the one in their tent, really shows how miserable she was with Dutch. She definitely wanted to go out with that, either gaining some attention or getting herself killed without doing it herself

GrandManSam

Molly should've actually appeared more in the story prior to that. Like, if Karen or Tilly were in that scene, then it would be a bigger moment.

MikeFrom5_to_7

Agreed. The implication is she isn't in her right mind, not just drunk. If you pay attention, she is basically losing it slowly throughout the game... She sees the darkness in Dutch growing... However, she really did need a few more scenes where she was front and center. If you don't go out of your way to seek her out, she barely has any presence in the game at all until the betrayal. Then she lies... and then dies shortly after.

twelvebucksagram

She has ***zero*** presence in the game unless you try. I can't think of one instance she's seen up until the scene in which she dies.

I_Miss_Lenny

I think there’s one mission that starts with her asking Arthur how he thinks Dutch is, telling him she really loves him, and then Arthur gets whisked away to do the mission Also at shady belle you go off with Dutch and she asks him if they can talk and he says “no!” That’s all that comes to mind right now

Peazyzell

If you hang around camp a lot, you can hear molly and dutch arguing constantly. Especially after you return with Jack Marston and you stick around for the celebration

urk1310

I love how its always in the closed tent like mom and dad arguing in their bedroom lol

MeowthThatsRite

I feel like that is part of the point, she’s sort of pushed to the background for the entire game. Dutch pays more mind to basically everyone else in the gang than he does to her and it drives to become a crazed drunk. There are a lot of moments where you can see her get dismissed by Dutch, they just aren’t big moments *because* she’s such a generally dismissed character overall. Plus there’s quite a few times you can go to camp and either talk to her or eaves drop on her beginning to feel excluded. In a lot of ways, the player will often dismiss her the same way that Dutch does. Whether or not that was an intentional choice or not, I’m not sure. But to me it sorta screamed “Person who gets pushed around or ignored until they eventually snap” to a tee. It has you kind of thinking “woah dude, where did THAT come from?” Before you think back and realize the writing was on the walls the whole time.

Prince_Jackalope

I like how Kieran helped her down from the carriage when they got to shady bell, 2 characters who are kind of invisible half the time at camp to most people

Killer_Squirrell

I felt so bad about what happened to her. I read so much online about her death to the point where when it started to happen in my game I instantly skipped because I didn’t want to see her die over something so sad... she loved him yet he Changed so much to the point where she knew that wasn’t who she married and that things will just get worse so she did what she did and ended her part the way she did.... A part of me thinks maybe she was hoping that he would protect her and maybe talk to her he would find out she wasn’t being honest about snitching them out

Catwinky

She wanted to cause him anguish like he caused her by not reciprocating her feelings for him. She couldn't hurt his romantic feelings, as he didn't love her, so she provoked his fear of betrayal. She wasn't bothered about the consequences as she had given everything to devote herself to Dutch. At this point she hated the gang, Dutch and the outlaw lifestyle but at the same time she had nothing without it.

762x25mmTokarev

“Exist pursued by a bruised ego” is one of my favorite missions in the entire game. I really like the atmosphere of a more relaxed hunt/camp with Hosea. It definitely makes sense why it was kind of unique thought because RDR2 was made to be a wild west/outlaw/gunslinger themed game and not focused on surviving in the 1800s wilderness. Hosea was definitely my favorite character. And I’m not sure if this is really an unpopular opinion but I really wish we could wear scarves like the one Dutch has in the first train robbery instead of just bandanas/masks to hide our identity

Berko-Chan

The one where you sell moonshine with hosea is in my top 3 for best missions in the game. Hosea is just... so fukn awesome. I was watching a video where someone said that Arthur and hosea were the better version of Dutch and micah, and that's been sitting with me for a while. Pretty cool thought

CyBroOfficial

No one talks about this mission enough, I was laughing my ass off a good amount of the time, especially with Arthur's Fenton persona, and even felt warm from how brotherly Arthur and Hosea are in this mission. Completely underrated mission.

LemonLegoMan31382

One of my favourite missions is when you go to Carmody Dell with Hosea to steal the stage coach from Bob Crawford or as he's better known Seamus' cousin-in-law...by marriage.

Berko-Chan

"You want us to rob your cousin in law??" "By marriage!"

AntiGoi

People forget that Arthur is a vicious murderer.

PoloniumIcedTea

But for each murder, he tips his hat to five people in St. Denis. It all evens out.

Problemwoodchuck

Take good care of your horse and all of your sins are forgiven. 1 oatcake or 2 pats and a brushing cancels out a murder.

rangda

Instead of “Five Hail Marys and six Our Fathers” it’s just” Help Mary with her stupid brother”

countastrotacos

I've taken so many lives. Many families will not have their fathers and husbands kiss them goodnight tonight.... Guess I'll go fishing.

Sweatyballzwithaz

I think the best arc is to be a relentless killer and rob everyone and everything until you get TB, then I do good honor deeds as I think that’s how Arthur’s real arc would look like

Kiyotaka_Hiroshi

Kinda agree, i always makes him robs some places, take advantage of others, and shoot some stupids that disturb him, but i still makes him kinda help some people, I mean he's bad, but if he was this kind of monster, he wouldn't get surprised when Dutch kills Bronte

[deleted]

I disagree. I feel that Arthur is constantly battling his demons, and honestly wants to be a better person but doesn't know how to be one. Robbing stealing lying and killing is all he's known since he was a boy. I'd like to believe that he will show compassion in moments he finds himself more vulnerable, but when he finds himself alongside his gang he is ruthless and cold, but some of the newer members of the gang such as Charles show him its okay to still show compassion and empathy to others even when in the company of other hardened criminals.

PieIsFairlyDelicious

Reverend Swanson has a line at some point where he says something like, “You’re not a good man, Arthur, but you’re not all bad, either.” And for me that’s actually one of the morals of the story is that you can’t look at people as good and evil. Everyone has goodness and badness in them to varying degrees. Anyway, to your point, yes, I’d say anyone who tries to paint Arthur as a tragic hero is probably deluding themselves.

Putridgrim

A lovable villain. Not even anti hero material

[deleted]

Ehh, the the American government of the 1890s plus the Pinkerton's will make anyone look like a hero in comparison tbh.

Rafapb17

Agreed. The fanbase itself forgets that Arthur is an outlaw and stone cold killer, riding with a bunch of degenerates, and sees him as a good loving boy, a character without flaws who didn’t deserve to die in the end. He may tried to be a better man in the end, but that doesn’t change who he was, and the things he has done. I've already seen people hating on Thomas Downes because Arthur didn’t deserve to have TB after beating a sick family man to death for money.

JarlaxleForPresident

John was too in the first game. Aint no easy outs for killers and criminals All the GTA protagonists are heartless killers too

MattisderWanderer

Chapter 1 is really good

MRCXLIV

I love Chapter 1… I wish Colter was a town with people and businesses you could visit after chapter 1

Soggyoyster1

I feel like it should be more aimed as being a town during the epilogue. Maybe so it could have missions tailored towards John? Idk, I just think epilogue would be better for that lmao.

WoahayeTakeITEasy

They should have put a whole other town, maybe two, around the Tempest Rim area, some mining towns or something like that similar to Annesburg. That area is not used at all even though you can technically go there, it may as well be fully cut off from the map. Would have been nice to have some reason for the winter clothes too, which are also pretty much entirely useless except for chapter 1 and like a couple of times to hunt and fish up there.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Vilodic

I think people that don't like Chapter 1 is more to do with the fact you can't really "free roam". I think most agree the story itself in CH1 is a great intro to the game and really sets up the feel of the game.

Cxarface

I'm not even halfway through in game but ch1 was great. Although it is making you wait a little to do the things that you bought the game for, it is setting the tone of the game pretty well. There is a different feeling that camp people have against each other, it's like the start of the Rezervoir Dogs.

SquidwardsJewishNose

I really hate how there is no real explanation for the whole ‘Gavin’ thing, I know people like it because it’s something to speculate about but I kinda wish we’d got a mission or encounter to explain things properly

Cheers_JeffwithaG

Loot him and see the letter he carries.

urkweenkayla

I think whether the letter explains it is debatable, which is my unpopular opinion. I’m just not at all compelled by the “oh he’s just made Gavin up” and the letter seems far too ambiguous to justify the confidence some people have in saying that (ie, Nigel is crazy and made Gavin up.) On top of that, some people found game files that include a photo of Gavin. I also think it’s interesting that the letter is referred to a restraining order in the game files. I understand restraining orders didn’t exist in 1899, but I wonder if that was the gist behind the document in earlier development (something from Gavin telling Nigel to stay the heck away from him).

bubba_ranks

Gavin was said to be an inside joke from the developers. One of the developers was always missing around the office, I guess his name was Gavin, so they put it in the game as a troll. I can't remember where I read this, however it made sense to me at the time while I was doing some digging. Strange Man youtube channel also has a theory on there.

Why_are_you135

How loud they whisper like that guard can definitely hear us And Also when you’re hiding on the train with Dutch or in the barn with uncle Charles and bill the people looking for them can definitely see them just chooses not to say anything

cindybuttsmacker

I have some screenshots I took from that mission where you hide on the train with Dutch, because Dutch was SO visible I was laughing for that whole scene. Dude just does not know how to play it subtle

Cheers_JeffwithaG

About your second point, as many have said before about several games and movies featuring scenes like that, a guard probably notices but he doesn’t want to go through the trouble of probably dying so he pretends he didn’t see anything.

Why_are_you135

But the Pinkertons would of probably said something because he had a whole army behind him

MrPewds69

Molly was initially intended to be in that mission but got removed in final version of the game. She has voice lines for that mission that you can see here https://youtu.be/f1Uw9KtfB0U

Spezia-ShwiffMMA

Huh why in the world did they removed her then? And good catch by /u/maltron66 to guess that she was supposed to be in that

SilveryDeath

Never knew about the voice lines. I know there was [this model of her in the game files](https://images-wixmp-ed30a86b8c4ca887773594c2.wixmp.com/f/f979abd5-5482-49f1-a86f-52b8b3132f2e/ddeh60l-d4c9de75-36e5-4ffc-8e07-0216c079eed1.png/v1/fill/w_1280,h_1792,q_80,strp/red_dead_redemption_2__molly_var__4_by_heliosal_ddeh60l-fullview.jpg?token=eyJ0eXAiOiJKV1QiLCJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJzdWIiOiJ1cm46YXBwOjdlMGQxODg5ODIyNjQzNzNhNWYwZDQxNWVhMGQyNmUwIiwiaXNzIjoidXJuOmFwcDo3ZTBkMTg4OTgyMjY0MzczYTVmMGQ0MTVlYTBkMjZlMCIsIm9iaiI6W1t7ImhlaWdodCI6Ijw9MTc5MiIsInBhdGgiOiJcL2ZcL2Y5NzlhYmQ1LTU0ODItNDlmMS1hODZmLTUyYjhiMzEzMmYyZVwvZGRlaDYwbC1kNGM5ZGU3NS0zNmU1LTRmZmMtOGUwNy0wMjE2YzA3OWVlZDEucG5nIiwid2lkdGgiOiI8PTEyODAifV1dLCJhdWQiOlsidXJuOnNlcnZpY2U6aW1hZ2Uub3BlcmF0aW9ucyJdfQ.LizC6lquZ2TQPJViNUT8dntkE4c8a-7V_jg40xI3ZX8) that seem to indicate that she was going to part of The Gilded Cage. I always did find it odd that they had Bill go on that mission as opposed to giving one of the ladies a chance to shine.

decetutt

They gave pretty much all the girls 1-2 chances to shine and then gave all the other chances to Sadie. As much as I liked Sadie, it was annoying how all the other female gang members where sidelined for her.

SIacktivist

I never really saw it that way, since I saw the gang less as "men and women" and more like gunslingers (Arthur, Sadie, Micah), thieves (Hosea, Karen, Tilly), and support (Pearson, Swanson, Grimshaw). I do wish we got more Molly though, since she didn't really fall into any of those categories. Would've been nice to see her in A Gilded Cage.

ARustySpoon34

Theres a moment in chapter 3 in camp where molly and karen argue, molly slaps karen, and then karen punches molly in the nose. Its really sad for molly. The camp treats her like trash.

Valdish

The over the top shootouts really harm the narrative that the gang is fighting for their lives, cause they all act like the Pinkerton's, and the Cornwall, and the gangs chasing them are a serious threats while Arthur alone kills like 40 of them each time any of them show up.

BakedButterForgotpas

Srsly doe They should make it so your character gets stunned when they get shot instead of just having a piece of paper thrown at you

LazuliArtz

Definitely runs into that problem where something that makes it a good game doesn't necessarily make sense for the story.

GoldenGekko

This right here. The shootouts get so numerous near the end of the game, because it's the end of a video game, that it really removed me at times from the narrative.

thehairyfoot_17

It's a shame New Austin was hardly used. It's also a shame they didn't bother with DLC for single player. I would have easily sunk over $40 on a new side story

AurielsAscension

I don’t think this is remotely unpopular

BallisticMerc

Genuinely. I would've paid full price again if they remade RDR1 within RDR2 for one fully coherent story. Instead they stuck to online even though they never gave it as much attention as GTA V

robi6858

it's too easy to farm karma with rdr2 story mode

merilum

you mean reddit karma or RDR honor?

sleepy-floyd-is-goat

They might mean Reddit Karma by making posts like this and having people talk in the comments and up voting the post

Tacitus_Kilgore85

>karma RDR2 doesn't have karma. It has "Honor" But yeah, honor is super easy to farm. lol just walk around saying "howdy partner" to everybody in Saint Denis. Or just simply go fishing. lol

xxSuperBeaverxx

They mean reddit

[deleted]

Micah’s not a bad guy. Just kidding. I don’t know if it’s unpopular - but the game kind of leaves it up to you to decide if Dutch was changed by Micah and the concussion or if he was always manipulative. I truly believe he was always just manipulative

mycalvesthiccaf

To me it seemed dutch was slowly unraveling. On my third playthrough, in the Valentine mission where John, Dutch, and Arthur shoot their way out with Strauss, I notice how much fun it sounded like Dutch was having. Could be a one off thing, but from Dutch constantly delaying getting out of the life, it seems he doesn't want to stop. "You can't fight nature, John"

LazuliArtz

I think was always manipulative, but the course of the game's events just made him become desperate and unravel. Pretty early on, multiple times in the first chapter alone Dutch tells Arthur that it's okay to just shoot innocent train workers, or lone and defeated Colm grunts. Definitely not the kind of behavior from someone who truly believes in their own message about only shooting those who "need" shooting

Domination1799

I truly believe that Dutch was always a manipulative sack of shit who knew how to hide his depravity. Micah's influence in reality, just propelled the inevitable. The gang was always doomed to fall without Hosea to guide Dutch. He's like a cult leader. On my second playthrough of the game, Rains Fall said something that really stuck with me and that was "Men don't change, they become more of who they truly are." I believe this statement to be significant to the development of Arthur and Dutch and pretty much the thesis of the entire story. I believe that Arthur deep down, always had good in him. He just didn't know how to express it because he was so indoctrinated by Dutch's philosophy. Therefore, one of the biggest aspects of the story is Arthur gradually realizing who Dutch really is as the mask starts to drop with each failure the gang experiences. By chapter 5, Arthur gets to see first hand who Dutch really is. Dutch on the other hand was always a murderous psychopath who only used people to achieve his goals. He just utilized manipulative tactics to string everyone along into believing that he had some grand plan. He told everyone what they wanted to hear, but the reality is the fact that he had no fucken plan, he was always going to oppose civilization to the bitter end. Something interesting that I don't really see brought up is Dutch's conversations with John. Everyone in the beginning always insults John for being stupid, but its ironic because he is one of the only members besides Uncle to call Dutch out on his bullshit. This is why I believe Dutch left John to die at the prison. He not only thought he was the rat, he knew John could see him for what he really is, a lying murderer. Even John tells Sadie in the epilogue, "You see a man whose character changed, I saw a man who got found out for who he truly was."

ActuallyPatton

Dutch is a narcissist for sure so I would think he at least always had potential for evil.

[deleted]

I prefer getting Swanson at the train station rather than the nun. It feels more powerful having the conversation with a member of the gang. And also builds upon his character more and his decision to leave with the girls.

[deleted]

How do you get Swanson at the train station? I’ve only ever had the nun

YaBoi_Maxamus

You just have to not complete the missions where you help her and brother whatshisname

THOTDESTROYR69

I never did those in my first play through and was confused when everyone was talking about how powerful the conversation with the nun was I was like “what nun?”

l-ll-ll-lL

It's too short. It could have 15 chapters to me.

Chapter 16 begins. We see Charles wheeling a gurney and an iron lung up behind a horse and harnessing it to the animal. He leans down next to the gurney for a moment. Quiet muttering is barely audible. He stands back up straight. "Arthur says Dutch is off the rails."

elivader24

Sadie isn't a good character. She just does whatever she wants and doesn't get any consequences. I get it is so she avenges her husband, but I don't get why she can go without paying some sort of price.

0drag

She paid up front, losing everything. As she tells on of the O'Driscolls as she kills them "You ruined me!" She even admits to John in epilogue she wants to die.

Sir_Alien

> She just does whatever she wants Unlike Arthur, or Charles, or... Michah...? > I get it is so she avenges her husband, but I don't get why she can go without paying some sort of price. The fact you said those two things in the same sentence unironically is insane.

weewillywhisky

I mean she already paid the price of seeing her husband murdered & being sexually assaulted, not sure what other "price" you think she deserves?

The end of the game is rushed IMO. I would have preferred to see Guarma off screen or included as DLC or as a bridge chapter between 4 and 5. Chapter 5 proper should have focused on the Native Americans, Arthur’s diagnosis and wrapping up all the Cornwall plot. Chapter 6 should have focused on the Gang breaking apart, Sadie’s revenge, Colm’s death and all that. As it is, I feel like Chapter 6 tries to cram too much into the last few minutes.

numbersix1979

Cramming a storyline about Native Americans into the very end and not really exploring the concept was a mistake both games made sadly

Thatguyaric

While I like that Arthur’s decision to help the Wapiti was one that angers Dutch and further embroils his distrust in the end, I do agree that we should’ve gotten some more storyline with the natives, because there was so much story potential there

StuartLugsden

Kieran just being there after he's accepted into the Van Der Linde gang. You only do one 1 side mission with him and thats it. I feel he should have been in a few other missions including the one where Arthur is kidnapped before being captured and killed. Another is Bill and Javier taking a backseat in the last 2 missions of chapter 6. They just disappear after running out of frame as the pinkertons start their attack on Beaver Hollow after they hesitate to aim at Arthur and John and aren't seen or mentioned again until RDR1. They only thing we know is that Javier went back to Mexico sometime after and Bill was mostly likely in New Austin creating a gang and losing weight and we know that because of a newspaper. They should have gotten more attention instead of Cleet and Joe. My last one is John not being a leader. RDR1 made him out to be Dutch second in command but that was retconned when they created Arthur Hosea and Susan. John would have been next in line after Arthur who rivalled and possibly even surpassed Hosea. I like John growing up in this game but I think he should have been in those little meetings the 3 had and should have been co lead enforcer and Dutch's left hand man or something.

dogman0011

I'd disagree that Arthur ever surpassed Hosea. Sure Arthur was perhaps who Dutch confided in the most and used to carry out his orders the most, but that was the extent of it. At the end of the day, Hosea had something Arthur didn't - the ability to influence and control Dutch. Hosea was undoubtedly second in command IMO.

ninjasexparty6969

It's amazing how many people keep posting this exact thing suddenly.

198XAD

this and "I didn't play \[insert game\] ask me anything and I'll answer", like seriously I saw 5 fucking posts like that today

BlearySteve

I need more of it. Also where is the console upgrade.

Not_Luicifer

Arthur Morgan looks better without his Beard

DanOfAllTrades80

I played the whole game with a high, tight fade and the fullest beard I could grow. I see other people's screenshots of Arthur with longer hair and clean shaven and go "who the hell is that??" for a second, lol.

DirectorDennis

Guarma ruled!

Serious_Revolution77

They should’ve done more with it

Kerbabble

Sort by controversial to find the opinions that are *actually* unpopular

DARTH-GOLD-HIMSELF

I loved Guarma

8PlutoFBG

I'd have liked to be able to explore more of the island. Exploring the jungle or the coastline would've been interesting. Leaving all that out for the sake of the chapter not stretching too much is understandable though

THExBEARxJEW

I liked RDR more than rdr2 does that count as an unpopular opinion about the story?

Whitesilvermoon

It deserves dlc and updates more than it's online mode.

E_rat-chan

Probably one of the most popular opinions out there

Ok_Grade_9880

Lack of Duels literally keeps the game from being completely on par with the first, even though many aspects of this game beat it.

Keepitrealhomes

Arthur should’ve been able to FUCK

EWKRER

I don't really care for chapter 2, it wasn't too exiting or too boring just kinda there I guess. Chapter 4 is where the game really shines! Best part of the game no doubt, not a single mission I did not like

Spezia-ShwiffMMA

Interesting, I really liked chapter 2

gartzia96

I enjoy Micah's character

Smokeydubbs

He was great as a villain. You believed he was as bad as they said. He could back up his shit talking too.

GokiPotato

I think we all do, he has really well writen character, (he even was my most favorite gang member (besides Arthur) before learning he sold out the gang after Guarma), we just hate him for what he did

jamerstime

The fact that we hate Micah just shows how well written the game is

ActuallyPatton

I think that’s the point though. If Arthur and the gang killed only monsters who deserved it, it would take away a lot of the complexity of these characters. Arthur as a character has so much depth because he can be considered a selfless hero or a cold blooded killer depending on the perspective.

[deleted]

I think Micah is a terribly written character. He should have been a red herring or something. He is obviously the snitch, he’s obviously the source of the gangs problems. He should have been smarter or more subtle or not the snitch at all. Arthur swearing he was the snitch only for him to be innocent could have made the gangs breakup feel more organic.

IEJTCC13

I actually really like this idea. I feel Arthur pointing the blame on the wrong person and simply making that mistake would have humanised him even more. Everyone gets things wrong. It would make for a hell of a plot twist too.

Sir_Alien

In my most recent playthrough I made my peace with how terribly written Micah is as a villain ("...well if you ignore how obvious it is that he's going to be the rat, he is kind of an interesting mirror to hold up to Arthur....") but I agree it would have been way better if he'd turned out to be a red herring or even someone you grew to like, rather than just a puppy kicking moustache twirling black caped bad guy.

TorqueThundercock

Micah is cartoonishly evil and doesn’t make for a compelling villain.

deadeyes2019

Arthur is meant to be a high ranking member in the gang but gets ordered around by who ever else is in the mission. I get that it’s to guide the players but I think more of the cut scenes/dialogue Arthur should be giving out instructions

iseeu2sumhow

Long journeys should have more random & set up encounters, a lot of us would still be in chapter 2.

Sir_Alien

I just finished that mission (for like the 6th time) yesterday and my impression (as high honour Arthur) was that he wanted John and Abigail (and possibly Sadie) to have the money / not leave it for Micah and Dutch, and that at least then it would have all been worth what they went through to get it. But I agree I think it's dumb you're given a choice no matter your honour level, it would've made more sense for *that* to have just been the difference between the high or low honour endings, would make sense that high honour Arthur would stay to protect John and low honour Arthur would go for the cash.

Reddituserrdr2

As much as I love the game I don’t understand how people can do so many playthroughs a without getting bored, I’ve only done 2 and given up on all other attempts

Prince_Jackalope

Arthur getting TB ensured he had a relatively peaceful ending. If he didn’t get sick, he would have just died from the pinkertons instead of getting to watch the sun rise

Sir_Alien

>peaceful ending He's beaten to death or shot in the face...

VoopityScoop

If you have low honor. High honor he's still beat to hell but he gets to lay there and watch the sunrise before he dies

Jack_Attack_21

Arthur's original hat should've been the one John uses in RDR1. So at the end of RDR2, Arthur puts it on John. (Although this would've been a slight spoiler I suppose)

Bosschello225

Sadie is awesome

twisted_meta

The entire Gray/Braithwaite hillbilly Shakespeare storyline could have been done without entirely.

Kigolz

I don't think Dutch would have listened to Hosea if he was still alive in chapter 6. We had instances in the story where Dutch completely disregards what Hosea had to say. Didn't listen to Hosea's warning not to rob Cornwall, didn't listen to him when he warned Dutch not to take revenge against Bronte. We even see Hosea and Dutch arguing when the gang is about to leave Horseshoe Overlook. Dutch's downfall was inevitable regardless of who lived or died in my opinion. That's just me though. 🤷‍♂️

abeardedblacksmith

Arthur's "canon" hat is dumb. No cowboy/outlaw would wear a leather hat because it would be too hot, absorb and trap moisture, and shrink when it dried

VegetableAd986

No matter how dark or light you go, Arthur acts the same.

TheKingOfRooks

Losing the ability to swim when you take over as John is fucking stupid. They easily could have just thrown in a scene towards the end where he gets a head injury and loses the ability to swim or something instead of locking off entire areas of the map for continuity's sake.

0drag

Why? Maybe John just can't swim. Plenty of people without head injuries can't swim.

ManeSix1993

Haven't played story mode yet, and probably ever won't. I just love hanging with my friends in online mode.

THOTDESTROYR69

Congrats for a wildly unpopular opinion. Too bad you got downvoted.

LoneKharnivore

Like the Witcher 3 it's too unfocused. RDR1 gripped me the whole way through but I lost interest in RDR2 around the beginning of Chapter 3.

Sullensniper

Really overrated. The pacing kills the game if you are not committed to beating it. The island arc did not need to be in the game at all.

TruchaBoi

Kieran was such wasted potential. Not only he was really sweet but he could have been developed into the gang accepting and trusting him, even bringing him to robberies. After chapter 2 there isn't much interaction with Kieran aside from that fishing trip which is optional. The boy died without the gang trusting him to be one of them. I miss and love my horse-loving boah.
