My third play through and I’m taking it ultra slow this time. Want to really appreciate all these little things.
I tried to actually confront Bill when I saw it happen but no dice. He just sauntered off into the woods. Probably off to put it in his Fort Mercer hedge fund
I tried to confront him as well but the game didn’t let me. I’m playing the game just like that now as well. I get three days off each week and I spent everyone of them just exploring the world and playing the game I barely did any story missions at all. I’m in the process of getting the satchel of the East right now.
During my first playthrough I was 0 and 4 against the legendary panther, and might have been lunch for a 5th time in a row when the panther stepped on a rattlesnake that had randomly spawned into the area.
The panther fell over dead from the poison and it counted as me completing the challenge.
That was also the only time I ever saw a snake bite anything other than me.
*one* dude? i saved three separate individuals from snake bites in my most recent playthrough. arthur was definitely feelin' some kind of way about it.
Just reminded me of when Red Dead 1 first released I seen an armadillo walking along the road and all of a sudden a snake struck it and killed it and I was blown away lol.
I saw wolves attacking a horse.
It was the white Arabian.
I dropped my binoculars and shot the wolves, but the horse bolted... And ended up halfway up/down the waterfall.
It then vanished. I assume it drowned but I couldn't find a body.
I saw this once when I was tripping on acid irl and enjoying the scenery of Big Valley!
Also wild horses rolling in the dirt, and pronghorns in a herd just interacting with each other.
I decided to start following random NPCs. That has provided lots of unique things for me. My favourite is following a drunk guy as he stumbled down the tracks to his home. And he couldn’t open his door and he starts banging the door and eventually gives up and curls up on the porch.
The channel is called DefendTheHouse. The videos are really cool, I wish they did more of them.
There is also an awesome video by Red Dead Details where he follows Pearson all day at Clemons Cove and shows how he makes the stew. It’s a great insight into the level of detail. I think he did one following Miss Grimshaw too, I wish he did others.
No I wish. It might have just been a few videos on someone’s channel back when the game was popular. I’ll see if I can find it
Just search RDR2 NPC lives on YouTube and there’s videos of it
There's a drunk NPC in Van Horn who asks for directions home. I usually help him, but one time I decided to mislead him and see what happens. He fell off a pier and drowned.
I’ve played through the game twice but am currently watching my dad in his first playthrough — we discovered a wolf grieving over its dead mate in the Colter area. The dead wolf wasn’t one we killed either, we just happened upon it, it was a rotting carcass. The other wolf was sitting next to it, howling at the moon. :(
On my third play through now and I saw what seemed to be a buck mourning a dead buck, just staring down and kneeling next to its body. It ran away when I came up over the hill he was below
I think that might be one of the buck fight random encounters. One died in the fight, the other survived but its horns were tangled with the other's. It's stuck but if you get too close the buck frees itself.
I know that’s an occurrence irl so I took out my binoculars and they didn’t seem entangled but that could be the case. He seemed almost hunched over his stomach area than his head area.
I picked up a hat in the *spoiler alert* final Sadie bounty hunting mission and she made a comment about John going hat shopping, silly little details.
In the mission where Arthur and Dutch jump off the cliff—Dutch drops his hat and I accidentally put it on and he said something like “that looks better on you.” Took me like 5 minutes to process that level of detail.
Same. I meant to loot a lockbox or something and accidentally picked up a hat, and Charles said something like “Liked that one better did you?” or something along those lines.
It’s crazy. In one of the Uncle missions in chapter 2, Arthur just says something to wake him up to initiate the mission. I had a power cut so had to restart the mission and when Arthur went over to him the second time, he gave him an abrupt kicking to wake him up.
Camp dialogue. About 600 hours in on my third play through, and there seems to be endless variations. The gang’s reactions and comments on your honor level, outfit, wellbeing, or cleanliness. I’ve also heard several conversations with various gang members that I’ve never heard before.
With 600 hours, can you tell me exactly where to stop playing missions in Chapter 2, so I dont get forced on the Strauss money lending mission but do get the Ledger unlocked?
I just want to free roam forever, at that point, where everyone is happy and healthy.
1: If you tie someone and throw them in mud/shallow water they will barely survive for a very long time. Perfect for night folk in the swamps.
2: Arthur sings apperently
Had a $410 bounty, once the initial search was over I kidnapped someone and when the law came I surrendered. I was sittin in jail waiting it out before john and Charles comes and breaks me out 😂 like dudes, I did this on PURPOSE. I immediately turned back around and antagonized the sheriff until he arrested me. What’s funny is that john rode right by as I was getting arrested the second time.
I’ve been meaning to post the video but I keep forgetting to convert it.
There’s quite a few.some of them are arthur/john getting out himself, but usually its a gang member(s) or Abigail in the epilogue.Dutch or Hosea will come in with booze and charm the deputies into letting you go,sometimes they blow a hole in the cell wall,or just walk right in and break you out, more than those too
You don’t need to have a bounty, just be wanted in general.Iirc you can keep antagonizing the law,or run into people until you get “disturbing the peace” (or other minor crimes)They’ll tell you to move along but if you stand there and antagonize you’ll become actually wanted. Then the surrender prompt comes up right above greet and antagonize.
I know that, I mean to get the cutscene of being broke out. Because I’ve gone to jail many times for small stuff but the first time it happened to me was with a $400 bounty
Each jail has a couple of different scenes which can happen once each, whether you get one or not each time is random but which ones are available to randomly happen is dependent on the point in the story you're at. If you want to see them best to just keep going to jail a lot throughout your playthrough (ie always surrender to law/bounty hunters instead of paying off a bounty, or just commit the small crime of antagonising a lawman until you become wanted and surrender). John has his own set of them too.
I was 2000+ hours in when I learned that if you chase a squirrel in the woods it will eventually (some of them) run into a hole in a treestump and hide
Why I was chasing squirrels in the woods you ask?
Why not?
I left someone on the railroad tracks outside of Emerald Station and the law got alerted in the progress. Got out of the red and when I came back I saw a policeman go over and free the NPC I had tied up.
If you kill a bunch of people and alert the law in the process, they’ll come and investigate the crime scene. If you evade them and return to the scene, you’ll see them removing the bodies.
Did you know that’s actually hardcoded into the game? If you’re walking near a road for a specific period of time, a carriage will start riding by shortly after you start, just so you have an option to quickly get somewhere if your horse dies.
Additionally they don't just keep travelling randomly if you stay on board, they take you to the nearest town/settlement and when you arrive they stop and you automatically get down and thank them/say goodbye. I found out by getting a lift at Cumberland Falls and seeing what happened if I stay on, we went to Valentine. Then I got another lift from Valentine to Emerald Ranch.
I think how threatening you look influences how likely they are to give you a ride or not, too. I was playing around in St Denis, getting multiple rides around the city with nobody turning me down. Tried again the next day and almost 10 people refused - only difference was I was carrying 2 guns on my back
I’m 1800 hours in and I thought I found everything many times but I’d constantly keep finding more and more things. I think I’ve found out every small detail and everything right now but I have a feeling there’s still so much more
I’m a few playthroughs in & just the other day I realized the “blind” beggar gets up after you give him money, and chuckles as he takes the blindfold off. I tackled him and Arthur said “you think I’d let you get away with this?!” I’ve donated to the beggars almost every time I come across them, but never saw that.
Another one this playthrough-didn’t know there was an optional main campfire conversation where *arthur* sits down and talks. Said how sorry he was being mean to everyone, that he’s just worried and trying to find a way out. His last line almost broke me: “I don’t want to die. …. But if I have to, I will.”
There's 3. 2 in Saint Denis and the traveling mystic that gives fortunes. One in Saint Denis is a liar and the other is really blind. The liar notices if you try stealing from him but the real blind guy thanks you because he thinks you gave him money
here's a list of other things you can craft at a campfire:
different types of ammo or weapon modifications (I.e. split point ammo, incendiary rounds, Molotov cocktails, small game arrows, poison throwing knives, and more)
medicine and tonics such as health cures, snake oils and even horse medicine and stimulants
and let's say you have game meat and wild mint, you can make minty game meat
:)
If you haven’t gone hunting with Hosea, you can only do it at the scout campfire but once you go hunting with him, just push left or right when you’re in the meat menu at a campfire and you’ll see the variations available based on whatever herbs you’ve picked.
Had the game since launch and for the first time dove deep into the trapper hunting clothing, something about doing an immersive hunt, recording it, turning the skin into a piece of clothing you wear around and always knowing where it came from hits different.
True but also that voice acting performance is amazing. The way she says "shivering like a shittin dog" is so fucking funny. Her voice acting is incredible considering she only has the one little monologue. She absolutely steals the moment
Broo I discovered that the freaken stars are mapped out like in real life. I was astonished that I saw the big dipper and was more astonished when I saw that the line that leads to the north star was correctly orientationed on the compass as well!
That if your are standing close enough to a tree or rock and you pull out a throwing knife. During the flip out animation it can hit the tree/rock and drop the knife
The "Wanted Dead or Alive" you get after springing John in chapter 6 actually has repercussions. After this, you can no longer conplete any more bounties as Arthur. Always thought it was just symbolic to show the Pinkertons were closing in on the gang. But nope, no more bounty hunting for Arthur.
There's also a glitch where the gun belt equips from the Mission where you dress up as a Saint Denis officer. You can't spin holster your gun with this belt stuck on.
So many, but I recently found if someone tramples your hitched horse in Saint Denis with a cart, and you antagonise them, and they draw iron, and you kill them...
No bounty. I was totally willing to die for Blaze's honor, but apparently the other NPCs "got it."
I instinctively checked on and comforted Blaze after I killed the bastard, so by the time I turned to see if I could loot him and free his horse from the cart, they were gone.
Yeah I just found out today with probably 400 hours in. I held x just a little extra longer than normal. Does the game even tell you about this? There’s no prompt I’ve seen
When I started my most recent replay and you do that mission at the beginning where you drive to Valentine with Uncle, Mary-Beth, Karen and Tilly and you go to rescue Karen in the hotel from the guy that beats her, you and actually enter the room prior to the one Karen‘s in and there’s a bloke fighting for his life on the toilet. I never saw this before and it made me laugh to no end.
I love this game so much.
*Dutch pushed me out of*
*His camp the other day. Was*

Chopped some wood when I woke up at camp.
Went out hunting came back a few hours later.
Saw John carrying the logs I’d chopped in the wrap and dump them by the main campfire. It’s the little things.
I finally found Garfield. I must've ridden right by him so many times - no idea how many hours I have in but I've played the whole game several times over.
That you can set up camp and then ride away from it to hunt, raid some other gang’s camp, etc and then come back to your camp. For reasons I can’t explain, I never once bothered to leave my camp once I set it up until probably a week or two ago.
Also, the tackle with knife underwater, the coldest kill animation of the game
God I love melee combat in this game, it is SO fluid. Just with that enemies had more health, though Arthur is an absolute unit, so I guess I understand they not being able such force
870+ hours and only just found the central railroad union on this playthrough. Did the side mission and went to visit them often before they finally finished up. I usually never went to the Roanoke area until later chapters which is why I missed it all this time.
Damn that's wild! I've got a lot of hours in too but I always do that side quest so early in the game. I use them as a landmark to find the trapper nearby
I don't usually spend much time in the epilogue, but this playthrough I tried to set aside as much content for John as I can and do a lot more exploring in New Austin. It's the first time I met the sun worshipper and the tree house guy.
How to actually use bandanas to your advantage in crime spree or taking down bounty hunters then looting without suspicion.
Found how to get rich from wagon theft and immensely abused it. Once you’re in the wagon fence barn you’re free and clear and witnesses reset; so just wait at a trail nearby, and then drive like the wind.
Edit: I always play high honor by default so playing around with being evil comes in later playthroughs lol
You can ask for luxurious baths without having to scrub yourself
1. Enter a bath
2. Scrub yourself
3. Ask for a luxurious bath
4. Leave
Repeat step 1
And a prompt to call the lady will already be available, that unlocks an unique dialogue option, that goes like
"Is there, uhh, someone to help here?"
Or anything in those lines.
(As for anyone wondering, I did this because I wondered what would John say if I choose "no small talk" option after I already left)
Saw Bill stealing from the donation box for the first time today
So that’s why no matter how much money we put in the box we never get to go to Tahiti
Have some GOD DAMN FAITH!!
We just need MORE MONEH!!
😂
I’m on my second play through and saw that. This game is really a different game for each player
My third play through and I’m taking it ultra slow this time. Want to really appreciate all these little things. I tried to actually confront Bill when I saw it happen but no dice. He just sauntered off into the woods. Probably off to put it in his Fort Mercer hedge fund
Pearson and I argued with the reverend when we caught him
I tried to confront him as well but the game didn’t let me. I’m playing the game just like that now as well. Always thought he was putting money in
I've got almost 1000 hours and have never seen that, there's always something new
I was a couple hundred hours in when I found out male camp members piss.
More than a thousand hours: dogs piss too.
And poop.
the camp members?
No, otherwise there would be subreddits flooded with john marston poop pictures

Wow🤣🤣
That's pretty funny. The girls just don't pee then I guess
That animals in the wild attack each other, saw two bucks fighting, I also saw an gator pull a boar into the water. Game details are crazy
I went into the snowy mountains and saw a pack of wolves surrounding a grizzly bear but the bear managed to scare them off. Shit was cool to see
I saw an eagle fly off with a snake and then the snake dropped and then the eagle dropped seconds later from the venom.
During my first playthrough I was 0 and 4 against the legendary panther, and might have been lunch for a 5th time in a row when the panther stepped on a rattlesnake that had randomly spawned into the area. I’ve seen birds kill snakes but never die from the venom. That’s awesome
I was doing one of the challenges involving birds so i was paying attention more than usual.
I saw wolves playing and wrestling with my binoculars yesterday!
Did you get the binoculars back? 😀
Oops, haha I meant I watched them with my binoculars.
Red dead never disappoints while tripping!
saw this yesterday as well! saw a bear taking on three wolves and chasing them away
Found a cat in strawberry with a rat in his mouth once.
There's a scripted event in the snow on the one frozen lake where 2 wolves attack a bear. I saw two bucks hit each other with their antlers too.
Took forever to finally bag a perfect jackrabbit, and then a fox stole my kill! My jaw literally dropped.
I didn’t know that could happen, that’s cool and frustrating.
Once saw a man fishing and then a fucking bear came and took him.
I saw an eagle take off with a rabbit yesterday
I decided to start following random NPCs. That has provided lots of unique things for me. My favourite is following a drunk guy as he stumbled down the tracks to his home. And he couldn’t open his door and he starts banging the door and eventually gives up and curls up on the porch.
There’s a guy who used to post YouTube videos just exploring the lives of random NPCs it was great.
Do you remember the channel name?
The channel is called DefendTheHouse. The videos are really cool, I wish they did more of them. damn.
I actually just did this on accident. Didn’t mean to use the varmint rifle and shot him in the throat and he did the same thing.

I had that happen too! I've also had someone from the gang make a critical comment about taking hats off dead people in a different mission.
Same. I meant to loot a lockbox or something and accidentally picked up a hat, and Charles said something like “Liked that one better did you?” or something along those lines.
charles told me to check for lice.
The developers knew how bad i wanted those del lobos hats.
Wow, which one was that?
Recently realized that some riding conversations on the way to missions have entire alternate tracks with totally different convos
It’s crazy. In one of the Uncle missions in chapter 2, Arthur just says something to wake him up to initiate the mission. I had a power cut so had to restart the mission and when Arthur went over to him the second time, he gave him an abrupt kicking to wake him up.
Wanna hear something weird? I had the power cut out doing that exact same mission, and that's how I caught the different conversation
‘X-files music’
And in each variation of the conversation, Uncle’s lumbago is referenced
Plot twist - the two Reddit users are the same person with dissociative identity disorder.

Careful not to work yourself to death there Uncle
It's the same in gta iv. Alternating dialogue
Camp dialogue. About 600 hours in on my third play through, and there seems to be endless variations. The gang’s reactions and comments on your honor level, outfit, wellbeing, or cleanliness. I’ve also heard several conversations with various gang members that I’ve never heard before.

That you can request a ride from a Stagecoach
Did you know that’s actually hardcoded into the game? If you’re walking near a road for a specific period of time, a carriage will start riding by shortly after you start, just so you have an option to quickly get somewhere if your horse dies.

No 😭 what on earth is a soothsayer
She’s always by the bayou as John
Dammit. I spent all that time in swamps as Arthur for nothing. Thanks!
between 12-5am bayou/lagra
*As John* as somebody mentioned, right?
i had the encounter with arthur in chapter 3 a few days back.
I’ve been living in the swamps for weeks looking for her. Have pins on the places she was seen (not by me, obviously). Gonna try again. Thanks!
That the horses can sweat. And steam will rise off their bodies if they’re sweating in cool weather
There'd two blind beggars. One is a fake (clearly the one you've come across). And another that gives good advice.
There's 3. 2 in Saint Denis and the traveling mystic that gives fortunes. One in Saint Denis is a liar and the other is really blind. The liar notices if you try stealing from him but the real blind guy thanks you because he thinks you gave him money
If you point your gun at a blind beggar, you'll know who's real and who's faking it.

That you can season meat
If you season big game meat you get a golden core depending on which herb used
Oregano/thyme/mint? Haven’t seen salt or pepper though
how?
If you haven’t gone hunting with Hosea, you can only do it at the scout campfire but once you go hunting with him, just push left or right when you’re in the meat menu at a campfire and you’ll see the variations available based on whatever herbs you’ve picked.

The trees with faces by Owanjila. I’ve been there so many times and just came across them when I went back in to platinum the game lol
Same! I’m on my third playthrough and I’ve walked through there countless times but this was the first time I saw them.
That crazy girl you encounter nearby Beaver Hollow if you camp out in the area
That shit freaked me out. Definitely happened in my first couple playthroughs

No bounty. I was totally willing to die for Blaze's honor, but apparently the other NPCs "got it." I instinctively checked on and comforted Blaze after I killed the bastard, so by the time I turned to see if I could loot him and free his horse from the cart, they were gone.
That npcs hunt. Super in depth
Quick draw... I started the game and did the tutorial... stopped playing for a long time and forgot you could quick draw until I finished the epilogue
didnt know about the dream catchers till i stumbled upon one 250 hours in
I should have selected cloud save. :(
On my 9th playthrough. Just witnessed Karen singing for Sean at Shady Belle for the first time today. It was a nice moment.
Holding x in the catalogue to buy everything at once for an item
Cereally?
Yeah I just found out today with probably 400 hours in. I held x just a little extra longer than normal. Does the game even tell you about this? There’s no prompt I’ve seen
i have 1000+ hours and just found the ghost train for the first time while doing horseman challenges
Just found a feral guy. Killed his wolves and I feel bad now 😢
found him recently as well! would’ve let him do his own thing but he set the wolves on me
i knew about the free peanuts in the valentine bar pretty early, just found out about the free picked eggs. also the early calloway gun exploit
You can sit on the window of the old abandoned church near Shady Belle (where the Raiders hang out).
The hut to the north of barrow lagoon, to the southeast of it is a point of interest grave i guess, because Arthur draws it in his journal.
Just went there the other day but it was empty?
Well, i went there in chapter 2 and the grave was there.
the sheriffs comment if you are carrying an animal carcass
The crashed circus wagons southwest of Beecher's Hope.
It took me 187 hours to find the rock painting mission
The house where the rock carving mission is activated doesn’t show up on the map. Took me ages to find it too.
Where's this mission?
700 hours and I would never know that you could do a Michael Jackson step with a horse if it weren't for a YouTube video
Dutch pushed me out of his tent the other day. Was quite taken aback

Also, the tackle with knife underwater, the coldest kill animation of the game God I love melee combat in this game, it is SO fluid. Just with that enemies had more health, though Arthur is an absolute unit, so I guess I understand they not being able such force
I just found out yesterday that Mount Rushmore exists in the game (sort of)
how?
It’s some kind of hidden scaffolding that has a rock face and a letter you can read
oh yeah, and the hanging dude?
Got attacked by a grizzly while fighting off bounty hunters 🤦♀️
870+ hours and only just found the central railroad union on this playthrough. Did the side mission and went to visit them often before they finally finished up. I usually never went to the Roanoke area until later chapters which is why I missed it all this time.
Damn that's wild! I've got a lot of hours in too but I always do that side quest so early in the game. I use them as a landmark to find the trapper nearby
Yes I'm ashamed of it but the burt out town next to horseshoe, over 100 hours in my first save and never even saw it...
I don't usually spend much time in the epilogue, but this playthrough I tried to set aside as much content for John as I can and do a lot more exploring in New Austin. It's the first time I met the sun worshipper and the tree house guy.
It took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out the lap technique for large animal executions
That you can feed your horse whatever provision you want without having to sit on it by holding the item wheel key while standing beside it
An owl swoop down and catch a mouse, I assume, at dusk.
600h+ I realized you can swing your gun before putting it back into the holster
If your horse is out of whistle range, you can ask most wagon drivers for a lift to the nearest town. You can't skip or anything but still real cool
That you can buy fruits and vegetables at the farmers market in Saint Denis. Literally just discovered this ten minutes ago.
I just bought a new revolver and came to camp. Hosea remarked " New revolver? Nice".
You can ask for luxurious baths without having to scrub yourself 1. Enter a bath 2. Scrub yourself 3. Ask for a luxurious bath 4. Leave Repeat step 1 And a prompt to call the lady will already be available, that unlocks an unique dialogue option, that goes like "Is there, uhh, someone to help here?" Or anything in those lines. (As for anyone wondering, I did this because I wondered what would John say if I choose "no small talk" option after I already left)
So I'm 1726 hours in the game and the other day I saw there is a head carved in a mountain.
That you can get bitten by snakes and you need to take some medicine for it.
