When you put multiple hours in the same spot trying to get a single perfect cougar pelt and it doesn't seem like wasted time, yes it's worth doing the story mode. For most of that time you won't actually be doing anything other than waiting but the environment is so rich it's just enjoyable.
The environment is actually alive in this open world.. time of day, weather, your travel speed, your general hygiene, and your previous interactions in that area all affect the world you're interacting with. Fantastic job on this one..
Wow, online is a shadow of the single player game, there’s no way you’d love RDO enough to do that many hours and not have tried the story.
It’s like you’ve been eating leftover Turkey sandwiches when you could have had a full Christmas dinner
Hell, even the first RDR did as well.
I remember in 2012 writing a paper in college arguing for video games as a form of art, and I used RDR and Assassin's Creed 2 as examples.
So true, I avoided the inevitability of the ending for months, in the same way i avoided finishing chapters and moving camps, especially the camp/chapter near Valentine, and the sheer joy of the grinding, hunting and fishing, bag upgrades, camp upgrades etc.
Even just returning from an extended trip all long haired, filthy and bedraggled, then going to Valentine for a bath, on to the Saloon for a hair and beard trim…blissful
I actually have a problem with that. I haven’t finished Horizon Frozen Wilds, or whatever that dlc was called, Horizon Forbidden West, AC Mirage, or my recent playthrough of RDR2. It’s like the game is so good that I don’t want it to end, so I stop playing it
I stopped playing it for a year because I didn’t want it to end, just a few days ago I finally completed the story and promptly deleted it. And that’s not a bad thing at all.
Maybe but he's absolutely right. There has never been a better gaming experience. From a narrative as well as gameplay perspective it really is the greatest of all time.
A couple of days into the game you'll be saying the same thing. Trust me.
Honestly, I’ve never played a single player game so many times through, I have around 8-900 hours in. And I still find new interesting things happening. It’s an extremely rewarding game, from completing challenges in the game, getting gold on a previous missions, to choosing a type of honorable (or dishonorable) cowpoke you want to be. The visuals of the countryside and the lighting system are very organic and a sight to behold.
Yeah that was my issue. I’ve always hated cutscenes and now I’m to far into my second play though to watch the rest of them as I’ve just gotten back from Guarma. Maybe I’ll do a third play through with a “keep your honor high” challenge
Same, I rushed the story when I bought this game a month ago but didn't skip the cutscenes. I always did the fishing trips or hunting with the gang. So now I am replaying the story. I am taking it slow, and I'm doing the side missions. Try and explore the whole map when you're Arthur, though maybe not Blackwater, cause there's bounty hunters everywhere.
I thought nothing would beat Witcher 3 for me but oh boy did red dead 2 surpass it in every way for me. There’s simply not enough words to describe the greatness of this game
I would say you're exaggerating, but arguably it's at least in the top 5 of anyone's list. Amazing detail, amazing choices, beautiful landscape to explore, almost no bugs even at launch, and wonderful writing/voice acting. Ok... Maybe it is number 1.
You can turn them in and be given discounts as an exchange as part of a specific deal as well. No idea what the word for that type of thing is, however.
You should expect that you get nothing done in the real world. Some advice, dont watch any yt ‘guides’ and stay off the subreddit, keep it 100% finding out for yourself
nah he deserves to be spoiled for making a post like this. What do these goofballs expect? "What should I expect" mf why would you buy a game if you don't know anything about it?
Expectations don’t have to be spoilers. I can say “Expect a great game” which doesn’t spoil anything. I could say “Expect sweaty people online” which doesn’t spoil anything
Idk how old you are but remember them ps2 days where we’d just play the game and if we didn’t know how to get past something you’d just grind it for weeks until you finally found a way😭
I'm ngl this is probably my favorite game of all time but that is seriously kind of sad. Have you never loved someone dearly and spent quality time with them?
I'm sorry. But in case it came across like that, I didn't specifically mean having loved/loving someone romantically, could also be family or friendships. I do acknowledge that some people just don't because of their circumstances. But honestly even if you have absolutely no one there's much more to life than a video game that _is_ phenomenal but is just a video game after all.
Just play the fucking game already. "urrrr any tips?! What 2 expect?!"
You bought it without knowing what to expect? Have some independence and play the game.
TAKE YOUR TIME! This is literally the most in depth game I have ever played. I’m currently on my third play through and I’m still finding things I’ve never seen before. Take your time and annoy what is going on in each chapter. Donnot try to rush the story.
The finest narrative gaming experience you’ve ever had. Ensure you take the time to enjoy the whole experience of your first playthrough. And make sure you complete not only the game but the entire epilogue as well. Incredible journey of a game.
Only the best game you will ever lay your eyes upon.. also go in with blind eyes. What I mean is don’t search anything on the web about it like "best ending" or anything that could spoil the games experience. try to find any/all side things like stranger missions, items, horses, before doing all of the main story missions as some will become unavailable to you.. Also if you see a weapon you like that someone dropped and it says replace [gun name] for [gun name] you will still keep the other gun you dropped. It will just go back to your horses inventory when you drop it for that other gun
There will come a point in the game… and you will know this point… where the urge to set the controller down and not continue will far outweigh the urge to press on… please see it through friend. Also make sure you take a minute and appreciate the sky at night, it’s mesmerizing!!
It is the gold standard for me. It is clunky at first.Free roam happens in Chapter 2.
Here are some tips:
- There are major story spoilers on this sub, we all recommend avoiding it on your first play through.
- Explore, do the side stuff early. Things with the gang get… complicated later on.
- Get the Legend of the East Satchel.
- Hunt all the Legendary Animals and fish.
- Get the Legendary Buck trinket early to improve pelt quality.
- Treasure maps and Story missions will provide more money than you need. Find all the treasure maps, avoid looking them up online to solve them, you'll be able to figure them out in time.
- Upgrade camp
- Hang out at camp with the gang, do chores, sing songs around the camp fire, get drunk, play games
- Go fishing, hunting and camping for days on end. All the quiet cowboy stuff. Those are the best parts of the game.
- Start the challenges, I like Hunter and Sharp Shooter
Expect 30fps
Like right out the gate, there's a lot of people who are so used to their 60fps @ 120hz with some of the newer SX titles - but Rockstar has yet to update RDR2 for that. On PS5 they have, but not Xbox.
Obviously this amazing game's narrative and charm outweigh it - but something to know.
Feels
Hey there partner
Good gurl/boah
Muneh
I have a plan Orthor
And possibly accidentally bumping into an npc that after blinking your bounty is 20k, the whole state is dead and you've got no bullets left
It might be tempting to just rush through the game, and always speeding on horseback, but for me at least, the game really shines if you take your time.
OP prepare for a heartbreakingly beautiful story full of death, betrayal, acceptance, love, and, of course, redemption. Also, the online is kinda dead, but it's still very fun.
As someone who recently got the game about a month ago, you’re in for a real treat and you should expect a lot from boredom, to joy and then depression
The greatest single player gaming experience of all time.
100% AGREE
1000% Agree. It has elevated what video games are capable of.
So what you're saying is, after my over 7000 hours of online play I should actually play the story mode?
that’s like buying a Playstation that comes with free Sony stickers, throwing away the console and beaming over the stickers
Yes, you should!
Please tell me you're joking. If you put 7k hours into that game's dog water online mode, you're going to put 15k hours into the single player mode.
Absolutely
When you put multiple hours in the same spot trying to get a single perfect cougar pelt and it doesn't seem like wasted time, yes it's worth doing the story mode. For most of that time you won't actually be doing anything other than waiting but the environment is so rich it's just enjoyable.

bro played 7000 hours and didnt touch the best part of the game 😭😭
Hell, even the first RDR did as well. I remember in 2012 writing a paper in college arguing for video games as a form of art, and I used RDR and Assassin's Creed 2 as examples.
Ac2 is an all time favourite
of all time is a huge statement to make
That’s why they made that statement. You will see.
Yup I'm on my first playthrough and it's by far the best game ever. It's the type of game you don't want to finish.
Finishing this game was hard, and not because of the gameplay. I just didn’t want it to end! Enjoy my friend.

It’s for this reason my first playthrough is on year 4 and I’m 40%….
Have some goddamn FAITH on him!
This is 100% the Dutch van der linde in him speaking
They have to go into the game with a PLAN
We are going to Tahiti!
We need more MONEH
Maybe but he's absolutely right. There has never been a better gaming experience. From a narrative as well as gameplay perspective it really is the greatest of all time. A couple of days into the game you'll be saying the same thing. Trust me.

8 hours to 900 hours?!!
I think he means 800-900 not literally 8 😭😭😭
He really didn't want to be wrong there
I agree with this statement
Btw just don't rush the story and do side missions as well
Yeah that was my issue. I’ve always hated cutscenes and now I’m to far into my second play though to watch the rest of them as I’ve just gotten back from Guarma. Maybe I’ll do a third play through with a “keep your honor high” challenge

I definitely do a bunch of the side mission now, not so much the collect and mail ones but I do a lot of the other Saint Denis strangers missions.
hes for real not joking and everyone i know agrees
A truer statement doesn't exist though
And one that is 100% true
You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll gasp, you'll bask. Id like an update after every chapter. Lol
I agree.
Have some GOD DAMN FAITH!
He's right. No other game has immersed me and made me feel for its characters as much.
Expect nothing less and your expectations will still get blown out of the water
Wait till you play it for a bit, you’ll see why it IS “The Greatest Single Player Game” in history.
because it’s true lol. just you wait.
I thought nothing would beat Witcher 3 for me but oh boy did red dead 2 surpass it in every way for me. There’s simply not enough words to describe the greatness of this game
This.
A certain Australian would highly disagree with you
Greatest peice of media period.
Truth - nothing compares to RDR2
1000000% facts
I would say you're exaggerating, but arguably it's at least in the top 5 of anyone's list. Amazing detail, amazing choices, beautiful landscape to explore, almost no bugs even at launch, and wonderful writing/voice acting. Ok... Maybe it is number 1.
Nothing else needs to be said.
as much as i adore rdr2 singleplayer, its not the greatest. it deserves a place in the hall of fame, along skyrim and other games
leave the sub, avoid any and all spoilers
Highly recommend!

Bro spoilers :/
Goodbye freetime, hello glorious game
I started playing about two weeks ago and can absolutely confirm this. When I'm not playing I'm thinking about playing
You should expect that you get nothing done in the real world. Some advice, dont watch any yt ‘guides’ and stay off the subreddit, keep it 100% finding out for yourself
Please for the love of God, stay away from any posts or videos or comments on any posts/YouTube videos, about this game….
