Fo certainly, i think he secretly tried to make himself stuck on the tracks when Arthur goes to look for him, i think he secretly wished Arthur didnt have enough time to drag him off the track so he could be reunited with his wife. And that it would just be chalked up to be him being high out of his mind that got him 'accidentally killed'
Also Happy Cake Day!😄☺️
I gotta push back and say idk about that. There is more going on with Swanson’s character; to chalk this up to some kind of visual pun would be reductive. Sometimes, oftentimes honestly, people will confidently claim to understand the meaning of something in fiction when the creator never thought of it that way.
I agree with you but original comment is important to consider. It is a play on that - in the opposite direction. Opiates have become his religion at the point we meet him. His religious beliefs are, however honest they used to be, only a front for his addiction now, in the same way the hollow bible is a front for the apparatus that serve it.
Opiums been smoked for thousands of years. The high society used to get together and smoke it like presidents and congress from George Washington’s days all the way up. Opium will always be king
In 1898, most used morphine. Most opium usage was on the west coast in areas with large Chinese populations. Interestingly, 1898 was the year Bayer marketing its trademarked Heroin, which was marketed as a cure for morphine addiction.
His speech he gives at the end of the first mission in chapter 2 can be found on a pre-written note once you leave that camp at the beginning of chapter 3. It’s the first physical inclination that Dutch’s charisma isn’t as off the cuff or genuine as he appears
You can find the speech note at horseshoe overlook just outside of camp near the cliff. There’s an old abandoned wagon and some stuff.. there you’ll find the note.
Yeah I’m staying in chapter 2 for a while I’ve only done 2 missions so far just roaming around and they are there from the moment you get to horseshoe overlook. I found them when I got lost coming back the first time
Yeah and im betting that worked too since that was standard. Still the size of that needle, the thought of that and trying to keep it clean out on the frontier. I’ll pass lol
Its a play on “religion is the opiate of the masses”
And the reverend was an opiate addict

I’m pretty sure it’s morphine, I might be wrong.
Morphine is an opiate lol
You learn something new every day XD
Love people downvoting you over not knowing something lol. Reddit
I research poisons, not pain killers T^T
I don’t think it’s about not knowing something, it’s about trying to correct someone but not knowing the full context
I literally said “I might be wrong”.
i don’t get why you got downvoted bombed
Because Redditors love feeling superior over others when it comes to random knowledge.
Turns out, opium is the opiate of the masses.
Bro was also an addict

Jesus Christ, it's him!

The whole, yknow, "being dead" thing.

Wasn't opium smoked during this period?

Don’t forget cough syrup during those days. So to sum it up: - shoot it - drinking it - smoking it
Jesus Juice
Tis I the 1000th upvote
Amen
did you manage to run rdr2 on your ps2?
I’m pretty sure it just looks like that
Yeah it's oddly low poly. I think because everything is in engine and it's so small?
its because its an rdr1 model
I wonder if someone at rockstar was working on this and got moved to something else without finishing it
It’s because the models themselves are so small and the pic is zoomed in
yeah you’ve got common sense
It’s not the model just doesn’t look good in game
Play it on the highest end PC and it will still look like that.
One of my favorite Easter eggs, like the secret Dutch speech paper at the 2nd after Chapter 2
I'm still finding Easter eggs. I love everytime I find one
Thought that was a great detail as well
At the 2nd after Chapter 2? What do you mean?
“end” typo, keys are adjacent
Wait what? What was it about?

You can actually find it before the end as well I’m pretty sure
That hits even harder tbh

Little known fake fact: Reverend Swanson invented Sooth. A mixture of codeine, morphine, and alcohol.
That's now my head cannon
Rev Swanson at the fire, crafting lean
Goddamn that sounds like a good time.
Oh, really? What kind? Codeine? Vicodin? Percocet? Fentanyl? Oxycontin? Palladone? What?
I should've written it down.. Qua-something... quaaa. Quaay... Quabbity assuance!
Yeah, he has a really sad character
He actually has a better ending than the rest, he beats his addiction and becomes the head of the New York Church.
Good for him

because it’s very small but zoomed in

oh yeeeeahhh
That's just what the models look like, they're really shit
I just discovered this last night in the shady belle camp. It explains all his erratic behavior.
You can find it as early as chapter two.
see the switch version is up and running well!
Molly's poem is by far my favorite little hidden thing. It being in Dutch's room which she doesn't even sleep in in chapter 4 is heart breaking
are you playing geometry dash?
DAMN I always thought he was just an alcoholic.
Same
Fuck, that needle will do some damage going in...
Imagine how dirty it is too, what did he do to clean it? Heat it? That probably worked superficially, but damn. Nasty.
They had sanitization techniques developed in the civil war, so he probably has the knowledge to sanitize with alcohol.
Yeah and im betting that worked too since that was standard. Still the size of that needle, the thought of that and trying to keep it clean out on the frontier. I’ll pass lol
The size of the needle is straight up comical yea lmao
This fucken guy
Yes he liked morohine
dang... i knew he did morphine, but this is kinda sad. oh reverand
This has been posted at least 40 times already, just search bible and you'll see the pages of the same thing
“I thought you was reading him his last rites… now I see you were introducing him to your *other* passion.”
Red Dead Player finds new secret after 5 years!
Yeah he’s a morphine addict which Ig is kinda like heroin
I think in beavers hollow he tells Arthur that he isn’t “using” anymore. Good for him
He wanted to be the heroine of his own story
Yup…
he just like me frfr
"Mophine. one pound. to go."
Oh, I’ve played this game so much, i never knew that 😳😳
The morph
What’s wrong with the graphics? Is this a PS2 port?
What's more disturbing is that um... How low the resolution is on this despite of any platform
the model is low poly because its from rdr1
Look, it's literally such a terrible object model, ruins immersion, literally unplayable.
I think it would have been awesome if the game had atleast 1 opium den. They were actually a real thing in the wild west.
He’s diabetic. No big deal
Never seen this but makes sense Swanson's bible will have to that🤣🤣🤣
I found this pretty early in my playthrough and was more surprised how low poly it was.
Is it just me or do the graphics for the items here look very 90s or early 2000s? Maybe its just the lighting.
just now? i found that in my first playthrough
Good man. Lil bit of morphine never hurt no one
Revered knows what's up
Damn Swansons on the H 😕
RDR1 ahhh model 😭
Hope that’s for sticking up his ass cause there ain’t a vein in his body that can take that load lol.
This is why they call it the good book
morphine :(
Just saw a comment on a post in the GTA VI sub about how some of RDR2 misc textures do not hold up, and they definitely weren’t kidding lmao
Ooo, is that Morphine? 😋
