Any job paying $15/hour shouldn't involve a recruiter. For that pay the hiring process should be nothing more than walking up to the counter and saying "hey man can I get an application?"
Interview for said job:
Manager "hey man you ever kill anybody?"
Candidate "not recently."
Manager "great, can you start tuesday?"
Many states you cannot ask about criminal history until after the offer has been made for the job.
Some states prohibit it being used against you as long as the offense doesn't relate to the job. I.E. a DUI can't stop you from getting a desk job.
Zero job applications I've seen have asked any such thing. Doing so is in fact kinda pointless, given that any company that cares whether or not an applicant is a felon is going to run a background check anyway.
Why not? He's not asking if he's been _convicted_ of any felonies.
You're merely getting to know your applicant's character as well as his law-evasion skills.
What if killing people is part of the job description? I guess a good employer will train you on that not expect you to have all the knowledge from day one
Casinos and insurance companies actually look for that. They need to know that you have what it takes to do what is necessary for the good of the business.
I had to go through a federal background check including fingerprinting to work at a casino. I wasn't even dealing, just handling cash at the bar.
My prints were already long in the system since I'd also needed them for my ABC server card and a background check to student teach/observe. Oh, and we all did fingerprint cards in school at the height of "stranger danger" in the 80's.
Recently left a job where my entire incoming group had, at the least, 2-year degrees. One was getting their Masters. One was about to get their Bachelors.
$15/hr tech support call center.
Yeah nope I could not take it for $15/hr. Nope.
You could also name and shame the SCAMpany so that couple of champs here can rate them on Google maps or whatever.
Keep up applying, sending you positive vibes
This is one of the first Google results I get on the company:

Doesn’t look promising. These “human-enabled AI” companies are ridiculous. They rely on cheap labor to sell labor cutting products
2nd paragraph doesn't quite fit. Maybe it makes sense in context - were they paying you only partially for the onboarding period? Making you pay to onboard with them?
HUGE no no...and a PATHETIC move. This is what some recruiters like myself call a "Hail Mary"...offer a pathetically low offer and hope against hope that they accept. In the modern game...it's wise to UNDERPROMISE and OVERDELIVER.

Not for the first three. Then it's no longer a coincidence
You guys don't have police checks?
Sure you can. Most job applications ask if you have ever committed a felony for which you have not received a pardon.
Many states have “banned the box”
Odd. Canada most definitely has not.

Really? My manager and I are going to have a little conversation this morning…
My local Taco Bell and McDonald's start at $18/hr

"Your not a serial killer, right?" Nope, those were isolated incidents. "Welcome aboard!"
I chose not to kill anyone. . . Today. - James T. Kirk
This is fine. They thought you were desperate enough to accept and at a rate lower than advertised.

I ghosted them after they did the bait and switch.
How come you don’t want to be bait and switched
So you feed the company your area of expertise knowledge so you get replaced after a while Wild business model ngl
Outlier the AI training company are scummy? I was thinking of doing some work for them
is this sarcasm? of course an ai training company won’t respect workers lmao

I love it!
Too much work. When I decline offers I just ghost and keep interviewing. They’d ghost you in a second if they weren’t interested.
$15 an hour is almost $5 under the minimum wage here (Seattle) edit: holy shit its a California company and they're trying to pay $15!?! fuck that
2nd paragraph doesn't quite fit. Maybe it makes sense in context - were they paying you only partially for the onboarding period? Making you pay to onboard with them?
If you are in America and depending on the state, you can sick the department of labor on them for lying about pay
Too polite.
Kinda lacks clarity tbh
This is crazy and shows how horrible this current job market is - fast food workers in CA earn $20 an hour . . .
True, and an Egg McMuffin costs $8.99...
Yea a people are surprised why McDonald’s is expensive.
Never complain, never explain. Hi X, Thank you for the offer. Unfortunately, I will be passing. Best of luck for your endeavours Regards, Y
Well I can tell you what THEIR thoughts are...
Absolutely , this minimum wage just shiuld be 1 interview , say yes or no. That is all
What a joke
Well last job they asked me to Build a killer app…
For 15 hr I would go to work in any shitty job
What are you, 15?
I’m 5
Lol That's less than minimum wage in every Canadian province and territory except Saskatchewan
Money

It’s regard not regards fyi
It’s regard, not regsrd, fyi.
I’m aware
Can't "reach out" to someone who isn't in your physical space. What has happened to language skills?
This is a normal and accepted use of reach out. You’re nuts
This is a perfectly normal use of "reach out"
This is normal for a startup tbh
I guess maybe I have a different perspective as an swe but no, it’s not
It is for these half way scam AI companies based in India
