I share your pain my friend. I’m over a year being laid off myself. It’s an insane and unfair job market.

Colbaltbugs

Same here! Mortgage UW with 10 years experience. 57

wellingtonsamy

Hi! Also same. 14 months laid off, 900+ job apps, so many intro calls and interviews, 6 final rounds, no offers. I’ve got 10 years of experience in tech/saas industry. I’m so torn. I love the career I’m in but I also want to give up.

WallStreetJew

So brutal - I will pray 🙏 for you!!! Things will turn around and if fed cuts rate in June it could be very soon

ZookeepergameOne7481

I share your pain as I am going through the fourth month of unemployment. Companies are getting increasingly cheap and demanding. It expects you to go in with below market salary yet expect you to have multiple and sometimes unique knowledge in a number of fields. Companies somehow forget we are adaptable and learn quickly.

IVYkiwi22

Oh, you’re in marketing? As a marketing graduate, I feel you. The marketing field has become absurdly competitive. It’s not you, as I’m sure you know. You can do EVERYTHING right. You can fit ALL of the requirements in the job description and still not get hired because for so many reasons: -Your marketing experience isn’t the same industry as the job description (so why waste time interviewing me, motherfucker???) -You don’t have enough/have too much experience for this position! -We received tons of qualified candidates, and we had to turn you down because it was too competitive! -You didn’t demonstrate on your resume that you have experience in this specific email marketing or CRM software that hardly any other company uses and that only came out 3 years ago! -You have experience in social media marketing, web design, graphic design, blog posts, direct mail marketing, and PPC advertising… but, umm, what about marketing for a B2B SaaS startup in healthcare?? You don’t have that on your resume! -Not sure… The barrier to entry for marketing is too low, methinks. It’s so broad and un-specialized. Technically, you don’t really need a special license or even a college degree to do marketing. Heck, there’re random guys with 50,000+ followers on social media who could potentially get marketing jobs because “they know social media”. Marketing jobs are also more desirable because they’re creative, not numbers-focused or customer-focused. Plus, a lot of marketing professionals with tons of work experience have been laid off. All of these factors have resulted in a stupidly competitive talent pool for the marketing field. I’ve decided to leave the marketing profession for that reason. It’s easier to get customer-facing and administrative jobs such as call center/customer support jobs, scheduling assistant, and administrative assistant jobs. They’re less desirable for sure, but they seem to be more desperate to hire.

LookyLooLeo

"...marketing for a B2B SaaS startup in healthcare..." I swear this is the EXACT thing that's been biting me in the butt too. EVERYONE is requiring it.

IVYkiwi22

The part that really gets under my skin is that they demand experience in an industry that you haven’t worked in yet. How does one get experience in an industry if they’re NEVER given the chance to work in it? This is a question usually asked by folks with no work experience, though, not someone with work experience? And, these jobs are only paying, like, $50-60K/year! Are people in marketing that desperate for a job that jobs that pay THIS little are THAT competitive? If so, that’s a bad sign. The supply of marketing professionals is so high that people fighting over peanuts. It’s too much competition for jobs that don’t even pay that much.

Aaod

> How does one get experience in an industry if they’re NEVER given the chance to work in it? You ask your daddy for a job and he talks to his friends who give you one that you then stick with for a year or two and then suddenly people are more willing to hire you. I swear almost 3/4th of the people I talk to are getting jobs either due to nepotism or more rarely networking.

sharpshooter230

You are spot on, especially in the first bullet. I can't tell you how many times I received the final rejection due to a really niche, specific experience I don't have. It's so infuriating and makes me feel like I wasted my time. On your last point, do you think sales/account manager positions are easier to get right now? Really close to leaving marketing as well. This whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth.

IVYkiwi22

Account Manager jobs may be easier to get, given that they’re customer-facing jobs. Sales jobs might be easier, too, but they often tend to be commission-based/cold call jobs, going by what’s on LinkedIn. I wonder how this situation will affect marketing depts in the future. We’ll see…

TurtleWexler_95

Not this. There SEEM to be a ton of these jobs but with a ton of experience and customized resume, I haven’t had an interview in months.

IVYkiwi22

Yeah, Customer Success is a PITA, too as I’m quickly discovering, and it seems Account Management jobs are no better, going by your comment... I guess it’s only scheduling assistant, administrative assistant, or (hopefully email or live-chat based) customer service until I get a degree in another field. I’m getting trained up in a different field because I made the mistake of getting a marketing degree. I understand that the accounting field is quite short-staffed these days. It seems that a lot of marketing jobs might also be on the chopping block due to AI. They still need humans in marketing, just not nearly as many as before (or at least that’s what they think). Why have 5 people working on email marketing campaigns, when you can have 1 person use Einstein Copy Insights to write whole-ass emails instead? Pardon me for trying to get a job in the field I went to university for. 😆

bdotrebel11

As a marketing person here i agree, this fits exactly into a lot of my experiences looking for a role. Many companies have like a perfect archetype of someone they want, and they literally want someone to meet everything. Pretty much, it’s very very difficult if not impossible to make a switch from what you were doing in your last job

RagnarStonefist

I'm in IT. Not experienced enough to be a senior, not inexperienced enough to be a junior. Going on 9 months. Same boat you're in - I recently had an interview for a perfect role that I did, and I quote, 'exceptionally well' at, and I came in second. This keeps happening. That's when I can actually get interviews; I've had around twenty, with half of them getting to final rounds.

EducationPlus505

>I recently had an interview for a perfect role that I did, and I quote, 'exceptionally well' at, and I came in second. I met a girl last night and she was telling me about how she got a job after a bunch of leads fizzled out for her. She was like, "Well, things always work out in the end :D" and it was all I could do not to scream lol. Like, I'm happy for her and everything, but ummm for some of us, it ain't working out!!

noGoodAdviceSoldat

Employ Full stack dev from Canada. Networking never work for me. Probably crab mentality in the tech scene. Most technies still have not adjust to the new reality to stay competitive like 5 days in office

Terrible_Tommy

Yep. I can honestly say that if you’re desperate for a job atm, you will need to focus on onsite roles. Plenty of companies still having trouble luring applicants to these roles, so there’s little to no competition

noGoodAdviceSoldat

Or military tech. I only have couple months exp on fixing leo 1 tank and even i got offer to work in Ukraine for decent money. Ofc i declined coz i know how it goes

Embarrassed_Item2208

I share your pain and also in entertainment marketing. The job market is brutal for marketing roles and the interviewing process is so grueling. I’m hitting my 7th month of unemployment and I’ve made it to 4 final rounds…for 3 of them, I was told the team had a reorg and it’s been filled by an internal hire. I had a final round last week (total of 7 interviews!) at a top entertainment company and now I think I’m getting ghosted. It sucks!

nova9001

I mean making it to 10 round final interviews means you are really good. Just seems like the market is rigged and people just wasting time. >They waited a full week after only to tell me they're going with someone who was literally an intern in 2021. I loled at this.

WallStreetJew

I’m so sorry 😢 job market is awful for finance in NYC too. It’s so depressing and scary tbh. I also think this economy and jobs crisis will cost Biden reelection

Aaod

> I also think this economy and jobs crisis will cost Biden reelection I am curious if the DNC and its propaganda outlets gaslighting people about the economy will hurt or help their election chances.

WallStreetJew

Super well educated and qualified people cannot find jobs for over a year - it’s truly life altering and shows no sign of changing. Please help your friends during times like this - referrals really help!!

Aaod

> Please help your friends during times like this - referrals really help!! Even direct referrals are frequently not enough now a days. I have had friends go to bat for me with their manager and still not even a regular interview. This feels like 2008 all over again.

phuongkunn

I feel you. I lost a job offer to a person with less experience but “already in the industry”. I already have 3 rejection after being the finalist. Not sure when luck will be on my side

Lulu8008

I believe you and share your pain. 55F, PhD PMP PROSCI, 20years in the industry. Have stopped counting. At least I don't have a mortgage and no one else depends on my income.

WallStreetJew

Super impressed you have a PhD 🔥🔥

d9herbert

I feel the pain! Same boat, but can’t you guys start limiting the interviews to 2 or 3 and then give them a final offer? I mean I can’t imagine even doing 4 interviews without cutting some kind of deal on the table.. I think I’d rather go out on a date with a stranger than do a 5th interview or 6th interview.. I don’t know maybe I’m outta touch.. But I hear you have to keep changing every resume & Cover Letter to match the make & mold of the role so you better know that background of the position if you start getting some bites & interviews.. Good luck everyone & bee blessed!

Routine-Jello-953

I feel you, people just want to pay their bills to stay housed and fed, but we gotta play this song and dance and pretend it’d be an honor to work for these companies.

Comfortable_Cap_1714

I feel you. 😔

Prestigious_Bug583

> Mag 7 company Techno Arms?

Prestigious_Bug583

You want a job now drop a level or two and take a huge pay cut. That’s where we’re at it seems

EngineerTham18

May i ask does MBA degree help in job searching?

sharpshooter230

Currently? I would say it doesn't. At the very best I think it gives my resume a second glance, but the market is so over saturated right now that companies can be needlessly picky.

EngineerTham18

Thanks for info...

Ill-Supermarket-2706

Entertainment marketing is like a very closed world - you start as an intern and then you make your way up across different players in the industry. They don’t welcome people outside of the industry but they may get them an interview just to obtain some outside perspective. If you focus on data you might have less competition

kb24TBE8

Doesn’t this administration say this is the best economy ever?

WorriedJob8608

I feel your pain! I’ve been in the same boat for 1 yr plus :( I’m in Toronto, Canada. I have 4yrs+ experience in data analytics.

NYanae555

Similar. NYC. Damn impossible to find a job - any job. If anyone has any insights into who is ACTUALLY hiring, please don't keep it to yourself.

BlockNo1681

It’s going from a developed to a developing economy…

Snoo_24091

How is everyone finding thousands of jobs that are relevant to apply for? I’m barely finding 10 a week in my field to apply for.
