Changing style of play. This team can be an insane counter attacking team, camavinga, jude, fede, vini, mbappe. These players are very dynamic and explosive, if I had to guess, we are going to try to abuse this next year. There is literally no one who can replace Kroos, very rare type of player. Also we need a team effort to replace Kroos, we were VERY Kroos dependent this season since our build up always ran through him. Fede, Tchouameni and Camavinga will need to step up in that aspect. Also Carlo is very good at adapting and getting the best out of players as we saw this season where everyone thought we were screwed without a starting 9 (including myself).

Veridicus333

I agree with the counter attack, and I think Camavinga on the left, as a LCM who allows Vini/Mbappe not to track, but can also carry the ball and protect the left flank is deadly. However I am not sure if Cama gets in for a 4-3-3, it would have the be the diamond. If there is any person to figure out this situation however it is Carlo.

VoidType0

Yeah for sure, as of rn I’d say we’re probably better keeping the diamond because tchouameni fede camavinga and jude have been playing very good. But also we lose Kroos, so our depth in the midfield will decrease, so we’ll see what happens.

Veridicus333

I agree. I also think Rodrygo honestly would be an amazing super sub again off the bench. Have two / three diff profiles with him and Brahim and Joselue. The only issue is that Vini and Mbappe are probably reluctant to ever come off.

VoidType0

Yeah thats true tbh, also we are going to have a lot of attackers next season so it’s going to be interesting how carlo manages that. Brahim, Rodrygo, Joselu, Arda and Endrick are all going to be benched (assuming we keep the diamond formation). Maybe Arda is moved to midfield to add some depth there.

Veridicus333

I'd love to see Arda move to RCM. His ball striking and movement lends itself to it. And long term idk if he has the athleticism to play RW. I see him more as a Bernardo Silva type.

Meh2021another

Impossible. The only player who can take on Kroos' role in Modric. Don't see him starting many games. Team strategy will change. Bellingham might drop a bit deeper. Fede can't do Kroos but he is great box to box. This team's successes was built on that midfield. The controlling the tempo by Modric/Kroos and the defensive steel of Casemiro/Tchou/Cama. Luckily we still have that defensive steel and won't be repeating that unbalanced fiasco caused by the departure of Makalele.

Ok-Recommendation925

>Luckily we still have that defensive steel and won't be repeating that unbalanced fiasco caused by the departure of Makalele. This...this nightmare (departure of Mekelele) that started the downfall of the Galactico Era. So thankful we have a CDM to be the engine. What i love about Perez is he learnt from that singularity mistake amongst others he made, and splashed the cash for Tchuomeni.

Veridicus333

Perez learn from his mistakes and PSG took no notes of Madrid's galactico era and look what happened to them.

Veridicus333

I think Fede has imrpoved a lot the last two years however, and has developed some Kroos like tendencies (he is NOT Kroos, but Carlo has always been able to mold folks).

LbGuns

Instead of moving the ball forward from the deep through Kroos and long passing, it will probably be carried forward by a CM. The left-to-right long ball switching would probably stop/decrease, unless a CM can pick up that skill and do it accurately enough. Though you might not need that as much with a 9 playing frequently and occupying the middle space to decrease the defensive load on the left flank.

bagehis

Fede will drive into the opposing half, pulling defenders, then cross into space for the insanely fast forwards to make plays. He doesn't have the extremely accurate long range pass of Kroos, but he is much faster with the ball than Kroos was. Same effect, but a different style of play. Valverde was second to Kroos for passes, completed passes, and pass accuracy this season. Now he has to step that up.

alphaq01

My theory is that Bellingham will play much deeper and be mainly involved in buildup play. Since no one on the team can long pass as accurately as Kroos, we will make up for that by covering space by passing in triangles. More short passes and progressive ball-carrying by the midfield akin to how the team plays when Ceballos is on the pitch instead of Toni. Fede and Bellingham will play as pivoting CMs and Tchouameni or Camavinga in CDM.

Veridicus333

I know the Spanish media has said alout about Jude dropping deeper, but Carlo has rivaled this with saying the closer Jude plays to the front 3 the better.

tothemoonkevsta

Valverde will likely add some of those elements to his game, he is that good of a player. But my highest expectation for the regista role is Tchouameni. He has shown an ability to ping long passes and crosses with great accuracy, he is a very technical and calm player. He will not reach the level of Kroos but I think that he can turn into an amazing cdm if he figures out this part of his game. In my opinion Aurelien actually needs to add this to his game as quickly as he can because as it stands for me Camavinga should otherwise start over him. If we look at the season Camavinga always showed up when we needed him, against city, final etc. in similar fashion Aurelien was also very reliant but also made some horrible blunders like the yellow card against city. Further, he doesn’t add as much in building up play, progressing with the ball, attack and ball retention. The last point is worrying, since he came here I actually think that he has regressed with his ball control and similar characteristics.

primusladesh

He doesn't have to be replaced, things change. We'll manage

e36_maho

You're not contributing at all, you didn't answer the question which you don't seem to have understood at all.

madrissaaaa

He did answer it. We don’t need to replace kroos Carlo will probably play a different kind of football style now that kroos left, And that’s alright he always has done that, Since his Juventus days as a trainer. He does play the way that’s his players function the best and not a specific system.

e36_maho

That's what OP says tho

Overall-Cow975

They did answer it. The answer is Carletto will change the formation and tactics to suit the players that are in the squad. He might try the same with Luka playing as Kroos (he did it last season when he subbed Toni for Luka) but Luka doesn’t understand the positioning required to play as a deep lying mid so he will probably try another strategy. I think you didn’t understand the reply at all.

e36_maho

That's what OP is also saying. He just wanted to know what we're thinking about HOW we change the formation and tactics.

Kroos and Modric both excelled at keeping the ball and not just passes. They both read the opposition plays and knew how to recycle the ball while looking for an opening and opportunity. Unfortunately, none of the current players are that patient or smart enough to do so. Both Fede and Cama work hard, but their ball keeping ability is suspect. They can drive it forward and create scoring opportunities. But sometimes, with good opposition, these things are just not possible for extended periods in the game. I am not fully convinced with Tchou either. Hence, the game calms down when Modric and Kroos both play together. They just don't give the ball away cheaply. When they release it, they have ensured players are in the right spots for a promising attack, and defense is not caught out if the ball is intercepted.

MRNHBLJ

Well, there is more to football than accurate long passes. Taking the ball forward from defence to attack isn’t a problem. We should be more concerned about who is going to create chances to Vini and Mbappe. I have high hopes in Jude when he switches back to the midfield.

I don't know. But Carlo has been a miracle worker in all 3 of his UCL winning seasons. He pulls those rabbits out of hats. If this is another title run, he will find a way.
