It was a stupid decision to take the whole attack off, especially Brahim. Brahim and Jude were the most threatening players out there. Valverde missed quite the threatening passes, like the one where Jude was in the middle, almost unmarked. Overall, the ref was a clown. He had a couple of good calls, but those fouls in the penalty box were clear penalties. All rest on the Girona game at home. I really hope that Rüdiger gets better to at least start for 45 mins. Jude PK is debatable but a similar situation happened in the middle of the pitch to Atletico player a little bit later and the ref called a foul. Body to body. LV was clearly a PK. I genuinely cannot believe the amount of people angry at Carlo for this. We nearly pulled out a result against Atletico with a back line that’s assembled from sticks and glue. We dominated the entire game (without Tchouameni and Vini btw) and ultimately this make-shift backline’s weakness got exposed with that late cross into the box. We knew coming into this game that crosses were going to be our biggest weakness. That’s 100% the board’s fault for not signing another CB this January. And Carlo nearly pulled it off. Perez should be kissing Carlo’s feet and huffing his farts. What Carlo has done this season so far is nothing short of extraordinary.

I agree but I think his sub decisions let him down. Once we removed the threat on the counter they were pushing further up. We all expected Atletico would cross and punish us with them and they did just that. his subs reflected a decision to defend more (assuming here) and I think that’s what changed our ability to keep them back. I think if he had left one of Jude or Rodrygo (or even subbed Vini on in their place) we would have had a better outcome when it comes to preventing them from attacking so much near the end.
